Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Marc

(Mc 8, 14-21)

Les disciples avaient oublié de prendre du pain, et ils n'avaient qu'un seul pain avec eux dans la barque.
Jésus leur faisait cette recommandation : « Attention ! Prenez garde au levain des pharisiens et à celui d'Hérode ! »
Ils discutaient entre eux sur ce manque de pain.
Il s'en aperçoit et leur dit : « Pourquoi discutez-vous sur ce manque de pain ? Vous ne voyez pas ? Vous ne comprenez pas encore ? Vous avez le cœur aveuglé ? Vous avez des yeux et vous ne regardez pas, vous avez des oreilles et vous n'écoutez pas ? Vous ne vous rappelez pas ? Quand j'ai rompu les cinq pains pour cinq mille hommes, combien avez-vous ramassé de paniers pleins de morceaux ? »
Ils lui répondirent : « Douze.
— Et quand j'en ai rompu sept pour quatre mille, combien avez-vous rempli de corbeilles en ramassant les morceaux ? »
Ils lui répondirent : « Sept. »
Il leur disait : « Vous ne comprenez pas encore ? »

Le message

Jésus est le pain de la vie. Comment est-il possible que les disciples l’ont entièrement ignoré après avoir été témoins de la multiplication du pain. Aujourd’hui Marc met à la bouche du Seigneur plusieurs chiffres comme quatre, douze, sept etc. qui ont une signification biblique de la perfection, de la douze tribu d’Israël ou complète, etc.

Hier le peuple a cherché un signe du ciel et aujourd’hui ses disciples n’arrivent pas à comprendre la présence de divine en Jésus Christ.

Aujourd’hui l’évangile nous confirme que nous ne pouvons avoir la foi en regardons tout ce que nous voyons, plutôt portant attentions vers tout ce qui est invisible. Le Seigneur s’adresse à nous en nous posant cette question, « vous avez le cœur aveuglé ? »

Gospel text (Mc 8,14-21):

The disciples had forgotten to bring more bread and had only one loaf with them in the boat. Then Jesus warned them, «Keep your eyes open and beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod». And they said to one another, «He saw that we have no bread». Aware of this, Jesus asked them, «Why are you talking about the loaves you are short of? Do you not see or under­stand? Are your minds closed? Have you eyes that don't see and ears that don't hear? And do you not remem­ber when I broke the five loaves among five thousand? How many baskets full of leftovers did you collect?». They answered, «Twelve». «And having seven loaves for the four thousand, how many wicker baskets of leftovers did you collect?». They answered, «Seven». Then Jesus said to them, «Do you still not understand?».

The message

Jesus is asking each and every one of the same question which He has asked to His disciples: Are your minds closed? Just like the disciples of Jesus, we too don’t understand the deep work of the Holy Spirit in us. Like them, we fix our eyes on the visible things, like these miracles and we fail to go beyond from visible realities to the invisible truth; the presence of God and His love through Jesus Christ. John was able to see in an empty tomb plenty of signs of the resurrection. He saw the invisible and believed. We should learn to see the invisible presence and wonder work of the Lord from visible events. Let us have faith in the human beings, our brothers and sisters, which is the beginning of our Faith in God. If we are not able to see the heart of our brothers and sisters, their joys and sufferings, how is it possible for us to see the invisible presence of God in the humanity.
