Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

(Lc 11, 29-32)

Comme la foule s'amassait, Jésus se mit à dire : « Cette génération est une génération mauvaise : elle demande un signe, mais en fait de signe il ne lui sera donné que celui de Jonas.
Car Jonas a été un signe pour les habitants de Ninive ; il en sera de même avec le Fils de l'homme pour cette génération.
Lors du Jugement, la reine de Saba se dressera en même temps que les hommes de cette génération, et elle les condamnera. En effet, elle est venue de l'extrémité du monde pour écouter la sagesse de Salomon, et il y a ici bien plus que Salomon.
Lors du Jugement, les habitants de Ninive se lèveront en même temps que cette génération, et ils la condamneront ; en effet, ils se sont convertis en réponse à la proclamation faite par Jonas, et il y a ici bien plus que Jonas. »

Le message

Un des mots clés du temps de Carême est ‘conversion’. Se convertir, c’est reconnaitre la générosité et la bonté du Père, et lui répondre positivement. Hier Jésus nous a enseigné à prier pour que nous reconnaissions l’amour du Père et que nous puissions nous convertir et marchions sur le bon chemin vers le Père. C’est un chemin du bonheur et de joie.

C’est le temps de conversion et n’attendons pas encore pour les signes. Le prophète Jonas initialement refusa à répondre positivement à l’appel de Dieu, car il a mal jugé le peuple de Ninive et Il n’a pas compris l’amour divin. Nous nous sommes appelés à annoncer la bonne Nouvelle de la conversion. Avant qu’on commence à annoncer la conversion, nous devons nous convertir comme Jonas. L’annonce da la conversion de Jonas nous rappelle non seulement l’urgence de la conversion de sois, mais également la nécessité.

Gospel text (Lc 11,29-32): As the crowd increased, Jesus began to speak in this way, «People of the present time are evil people. They ask for a sign, but no sign will be given to them except the sign of Jonah. As Jonah became a sign for the people of Nineveh, so will the Son of Man be a sign for this generation. The Queen of the South will rise up on Judgment Day with the people of these times and accuse them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and here there is greater than Solomon. The people of Nineveh will rise up on Judgment Day with the people of these times and accuse them, for Jonah's preaching made them turn from their sins, and here there is greater than Jonah».

The message

Jesus gives us the sign, a wonderful sign that the world will understand after His resurrection. Since we are reducing everything to the visibility and immediate result, the wonderful signs of life escape from our intelligence and understanding.

Sign of Jonah reminds us the importance of his conversion before announcing the conversion of the Lord. He judged the people against the will of the Father, who wished to send him to this people, so that they may get converted. There are many such occasions where we have refused to respond positively to this call of the Lord.

Yesterday He taught us to pray, where forgiveness was insisted par reciprocity in our human relationship. We can’t forgive others, if we refuse to get converted ourselves. Let us open ourselves to this call of conversion, so that we may cherish a beautiful life filled with joy and peace that the resurrection of the Lord is promising to us today.
