Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Marc

(Mc 7, 14-23)

En ce temps-là,

appelant de nouveau la foule, Jésus lui disait :
« Écoutez- moi tous, et comprenez bien.
Rien de ce qui est extérieur à l’homme
et qui entre en lui
ne peut le rendre impur.
Mais ce qui sort de l’homme,
voilà ce qui rend l’homme impur. »

Quand il eut quitté la foule pour rentrer à la maison,
ses disciples l’interrogeaient sur cette parabole.
Alors il leur dit :
« Êtes- vous donc sans intelligence, vous aussi ?
Ne comprenez- vous pas
que tout ce qui entre dans l’homme, en venant du dehors,
ne peut pas le rendre impur,
parce que cela n’entre pas dans son cœur,
mais dans son ventre, pour être éliminé ? »
C’est ainsi que Jésus déclarait purs tous les aliments.

Il leur dit encore :
« Ce qui sort de l’homme,
c’est cela qui le rend impur.
Car c’est du dedans, du cœur de l’homme,
que sortent les pensées perverses :
inconduites, vols, meurtres,
adultères, cupidités, méchancetés,
fraude, débauche, envie,
diffamation, orgueil et démesure.
Tout ce mal vient du dedans,
et rend l’homme impur. »

Le message

Nous cherchons tout ce qui est de bon et du bien. Nous reconnaissons que tout ce que Dieu créa, était bon, dont l’homme. Comment le mal est entré dans ce monde qui était bon ? Ce n’est l’homme dans sa liberté à choisi tout ce qui s’est présenté comme une chose désirable et du bien ?

L’homme a refusé la lumière en fermant ses yeux et les ténèbres sont entrées dans son cœur. Saint Thomas d’Aquin nous dira que le mal est une absence du bien et les ténèbres sont l’absence de lumière. L’homme doit appliquer l’intelligence et la sagesse. C’est ainsi il gardera la lumière toujours allumée dans son cœur.

14 And he called the people to him again, and said to them, "Hear me, all of you, and understand: 15 there is nothing outside a man which by going into him can defile him; but the things which come out of a man are what defile him." 17 And when he had entered the house, and left the people, his disciples asked him about the parable. 18 And he said to them, "Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a man from outside cannot defile him, 19 since it enters, not his heart but his stomach, and so passes on?" (Thus he declared all foods clean.) 20 And he said, "What comes out of a man is what defiles a man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, fornication, theft, murder, adultery, 22 coveting, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within, and they defile a man."

The message

It is the question of purity and how sin has entered in this world. The answer is very simple. God created the world and found it good. He entrusted this world to man. Man in the meantime has forgotten the role of God in his life and longed for the independence.

Thus in this longing for this independence and liberation or liberty, he refused to recognize the goodness of God and man’s dependence in God. It is preciously because we have to continually purify our soul and thinking, so that we may not go away from the divine thinking and plan. We have to continuously remind ourselves that we participate in the divine goodness and liberty.

If we understand this truth, we will acknowledge that all that goes inside of us will never make us impure, rather what comes out of our heart and mind.
