Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

(Lc 9, 22-25)

En ce temps-là,
Jésus disait à ses disciples :
« Il faut que le Fils de l’homme souffre beaucoup,
qu’il soit rejeté par les anciens, les grands prêtres et les scribes,
qu’il soit tué,
et que, le troisième jour, il ressuscite. »

Il leur disait à tous :
« Celui qui veut marcher à ma suite,
qu’il renonce à lui-même,
qu’il prenne sa croix chaque jour

et qu’il me suive.
Car celui qui veut sauver sa vie
la perdra ;
mais celui qui perdra sa vie à cause de moi
la sauvera.
Quel avantage un homme aura-t-il
à gagner le monde entier,
s’il se perd ou se ruine lui-même ? »

Le message

Personne ne veut souffrir. L’homme cherche son bonheur et humainement la souffrance est une chose indésirable. Comment pouvons-nous nous réconcilier avec la Croix et trouver notre bonheur, est une question juste et nécessaire.

Dieu, désire-t-Il la souffrance pour son peuple et est-Il propose la souffrance comment un moyen pour avoir le bonheur ? Dieu qui est plein de bonté, ne peut pas agir ainsi. Comment un Dieu d’amour peut proposer la souffrance au peuple qu’Il aime ?

La maman, désire-t-elle la douleur d’accouchement ou il y a un désir de donner la vie au monde ? La douleur n’est-elle pas une conséquence qu’elle accepte avec un grand plaisir pour qu’elle devienne mère?

Pour Dieu, même si La croix était un choix difficile à faire et une mission lourde à accomplir, son amour pour nous était si grand, qu’Il a décidé d’oublier sa souffrance, pour que nous ayons la joie de salut.

Si nous fixons notre désire dans le Seigneur, nous pouvons porter toute sorte de souffrance, car la joie que nous allons avoir, nous donnera l’énergie à les supporter. Une bonne étude nous donnera un bon résultat. Si nous considérons l’étude comme une souffrance à subir, c’est dommage.

Gospel Reading: Luke 9:22-25

22 "The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised." 23 And he said to all, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever would save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake, he will save it. 25 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?

The message

Humanly speaking the Cross and sufferings should be avoided at any cost. If following Christ is a cross, we should immediately take a back and stop. If following Christ will give us joy and happiness, we should engage ourselves and take up any cross and pain to have this eternal joy.

Moses is proposing to the people the blessing and the curse. We have the choice. A hard work will give us a good result. If we consider the hard work as suffering, then we have missed the mark, failed to see the result, the joy and happiness this result can give us.

Listening the word of God and putting it in practice is not easy. If we put them in practice, we will find the inner happiness and joy. God is proposing us this Joy during this Lenten season.

To fill a bottle, we have to empty it. If we wish to be filled with the divine grace, we should learn to empty all human desires and make divine will as our own.

Renouncing ourselves, is transforming all human desires into divine will. Making God the centre of our being. It is not my will, let thy will be done. Thus slowly, we ordinary human being, will become extra-ordinary children of God, because we will learn to think and act as God wishes us to be. On that day, we will be able to say like Saint Paul, it is no more I live, but Christ lives in me. This Lenten season gives us an opportunity to grow and climb up to heaven, while living on this earth.
