Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Jean 16,23b-28.

En ce temps-là, Jésus disait à ses disciples : « Amen, amen, je vous le dis : ce que vous demanderez au Père en mon nom, il vous le donnera.
Jusqu’à présent vous n’avez rien demandé en mon nom ; demandez, et vous recevrez : ainsi votre joie sera parfaite.
En disant cela, je vous ai parlé en images. L’heure vient où je vous parlerai sans images, et vous annoncerai ouvertement ce qui concerne le Père.
Ce jour-là, vous demanderez en mon nom ; or, je ne vous dis pas que moi, je prierai le Père pour vous,
car le Père lui-même vous aime, parce que vous m’avez aimé et vous avez cru que c’est de Dieu que je suis sorti.
Je suis sorti du Père, et je suis venu dans le monde ; maintenant, je quitte le monde, et je pars vers le Père. »

Le message

La prière est un lient qui nous uni avec le Père. Dans la prière nous sommes avec lui, non seulement pour lui demander, mais aussi pour l’écouter. C’est cette écoute que Jésus nous demande de prier. Si nous n’arrivons pas écouter la Parole de Dieu dans la prière, comment pouvons-nous justement lui demander.

Aujourd’hui particulièrement Jésus nous demande de prier à son nom. Pour demande de son nom, nous devons connaitre sa volonté et reconnaitre la mission que Dieu nous a confiée. Soyons humble et demandons-Lui sa grâce afin que nous puissions apprendre à prier.

23 In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father, he will give it to you in my name. 24 Hitherto you have asked nothing in my name; ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. 25 "I have said this to you in figures; the hour is coming when I shall no longer speak to you in figures but tell you plainly of the Father. 26 In that day you will ask in my name; and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you; 27 for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from the Father. 28 I came from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and going to the Father."

The message

Since I believe that prayer is a dialogue with God, in prayer we should learn to listen. Listen to what God has to say and take with us Jesus and His will in our prayers. Without Jesus and without knowing the will of the Father, our prayer will turn into monotonous and instead of praying, we may end up in commanding. It is in this commanding spirit that many of our prayers cease to carry the intention of Jesus.

Today Jesus is asking us to ask in His name. How can we ask in the name of Jesus without knowing His will? The prayer isn’t it to accomplish the will of the Father? Through Jesus we enter in relation with the Father. In Jesus we learn to love the Father. It is because of this connection that Jesus is asking us to ask in His name. How many of us ask in the name of Jesus?
