Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Jean 5,31-47.

En ce temps-là, Jésus disait aux Juifs : « Si c’est moi qui me rends témoignage, mon témoignage n’est pas vrai ;
c’est un autre qui me rend témoignage, et je sais que le témoignage qu’il me rend est vrai.
Vous avez envoyé une délégation auprès de Jean le Baptiste, et il a rendu témoignage à la vérité.
Moi, ce n’est pas d’un homme que je reçois le témoignage, mais je parle ainsi pour que vous soyez sauvés.
Jean était la lampe qui brûle et qui brille, et vous avez voulu vous réjouir un moment à sa lumière.
Mais j’ai pour moi un témoignage plus grand que celui de Jean : ce sont les œuvres que le Père m’a donné d’accomplir ; les œuvres mêmes que je fais témoignent que le Père m’a envoyé.
Et le Père qui m’a envoyé, lui, m’a rendu témoignage. Vous n’avez jamais entendu sa voix, vous n’avez jamais vu sa face,
et vous ne laissez pas sa parole demeurer en vous, puisque vous ne croyez pas en celui que le Père a envoyé.
Vous scrutez les Écritures parce que vous pensez y trouver la vie éternelle ; or, ce sont les Écritures qui me rendent témoignage,
et vous ne voulez pas venir à moi pour avoir la vie !
La gloire, je ne la reçois pas des hommes ;
d’ailleurs je vous connais : vous n’avez pas en vous l’amour de Dieu.
Moi, je suis venu au nom de mon Père, et vous ne me recevez pas ; qu’un autre vienne en son propre nom, celui-là, vous le recevrez !
Comment pourriez-vous croire, vous qui recevez votre gloire les uns des autres, et qui ne cherchez pas la gloire qui vient du Dieu unique ?
Ne pensez pas que c’est moi qui vous accuserai devant le Père. Votre accusateur, c’est Moïse, en qui vous avez mis votre espérance.
Si vous croyiez Moïse, vous me croiriez aussi, car c’est à mon sujet qu’il a écrit.
Mais si vous ne croyez pas ses écrits, comment croirez-vous mes paroles ? »

« Si vous croyiez en Moïse, vous croiriez aussi en moi car c'est de moi qu'il a parlé dans l'Ecriture »

Il y a une « sagesse de Dieu, mystérieuse et cachée, que, dès avant les siècles, Dieu nous a destinée par avance ». Cette sagesse de Dieu, c'est le Christ ; il est « puissance de Dieu et sagesse de Dieu »... Dans le Fils, en effet, « se trouvent cachés tous les trésors de la sagesse et de la connaissance » ; caché dans le mystère, destiné par avance, dès avant les siècles, c'est lui qui a été prédestiné et préfiguré dans la Loi et les Prophètes.

C'est pourquoi les prophètes portaient le nom de « voyants » ; ils voyaient celui qui était caché et inconnu des autres. Abraham aussi « a vu son jour, et il s'est réjoui ». Pour Ézéchiel, les cieux se sont ouverts, alors que pour le peuple pécheur ils restaient bouchés. « Ôtez le voile de dessus mes yeux, dit David, et je contemplerai les merveilles de ta loi ». En effet, la loi est spirituelle, et pour la comprendre il faut que soit « écarté le voile » et que « soit contemplée la gloire de Dieu à visage découvert ».

Dans l'Apocalypse, on montre un livre scellé de sept sceaux... Combien d'hommes aujourd'hui, qui se prétendent instruits, tiennent en mains un Livre scellé ! Et ils sont incapables de l'ouvrir, à moins qu'il ne soit ouvert par « Celui qui tient la clef de David ; s'il ouvre, nul ne fermera, et s'il ferme, nul n'ouvrira ». Dans les Actes des Apôtres, l'eunuque lisait le prophète Isaïe... ; pourtant il ignorait celui qu'il vénérait dans ce livre sans le connaître. Survient Philippe ; il lui montre Jésus caché sous la lettre... Comprends donc que tu ne peux pas t'engager dans les Saintes Écritures sans avoir un guide qui te montre le chemin.

17 But Jesus answered them, "My Father is working still, and I am working." 18 This was why the Jews sought all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the Sabbath but also called God his Father, making himself equal with God. 19 Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing; for whatever he does, that the Son does likewise. 20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all that he himself is doing; and greater works than these will he show him, that you may marvel. 21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will. 22 The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. 24 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me, has eternal life; he does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. 25 "Truly, truly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself, 27 and has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of man. 28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice 29 and come forth, those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment. 30 "I can do nothing on my own authority; as I hear, I judge; and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.

“If you believed in Moses you would then believe me, for it was about me that he wrote.”

There is a “wisdom of God, mysterious and hidden, which God decided in advance, before the ages.” This wisdom of God is Christ. He is “the power of God and the wisdom of God”… For in the Son “all treasures of wisdom and of knowledge are hidden.” Hidden in mystery, decided in advance, before the ages, he was predestined and prefigured in the Law and the Prophets.

That is why the prophets were called “seers”; they saw him who was hidden and unknown to others. Abraham also “saw his day and rejoiced.” For Ezekiel, the heavens opened while the sinful people remained ignorant. David said: “Remove the veil from my eyes, and I will contemplate the marvels of your law.” For the law is spiritual, and to understand it, the veil must be lifted and “the glory of God must be contemplated with unveiled vision.”

In the Book of Revelation, a sealed book with seven seals is shown… How many people today who claim to be educated hold a sealed Book in their hands! And they are incapable of opening it unless it is opened by “him who has the key of David; if he opens, no one will close, and if he closes, no one will open.” In the Acts of the Apostles, the eunuch was reading the prophet Isaiah… However, without knowing him, he was ignorant of him whom he was venerating in that book. Philip came and showed him Jesus hidden under the letter… So understand that you cannot get involved in Holy Scripture without a guide who will show you the way.
