Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Marc 9,41-50.

En ce temps-là, Jésus disait à ses disciples : « Celui qui vous donnera un verre d’eau au nom de votre appartenance au Christ, amen, je vous le dis, il ne restera pas sans récompense.
« Celui qui est un scandale, une occasion de chute, pour un seul de ces petits qui croient en moi, mieux vaudrait pour lui qu’on lui attache au cou une de ces meules que tournent les ânes, et qu’on le jette à la mer.
Et si ta main est pour toi une occasion de chute, coupe-la. Mieux vaut pour toi entrer manchot dans la vie éternelle que de t’en aller dans la géhenne avec tes deux mains, là où le feu ne s’éteint pas.

Si ton pied est pour toi une occasion de chute, coupe-le. Mieux vaut pour toi entrer estropié dans la vie éternelle que de t’en aller dans la géhenne avec tes deux pieds.

Si ton œil est pour toi une occasion de chute, arrache-le. Mieux vaut pour toi entrer borgne dans le royaume de Dieu que de t’en aller dans la géhenne avec tes deux yeux,
là où le ver ne meurt pas et où le feu ne s’éteint pas.
Chacun sera salé au feu.
C’est une bonne chose que le sel ; mais s’il cesse d’être du sel, avec quoi allez-vous lui rendre sa saveur ? Ayez du sel en vous-mêmes, et vivez en paix entre vous. »

Le message

Dieu créa le monde et Il le trouva bon. Commençons notre vie avec cette philosophie de la vie. Pourtant tout ce qui est bon, ne nécessairement pas bon pour tous, car nous sommes unique et chacun a une mission confiée par le Seigneur. En accomplissant cette volonté de Dieu, nous découvrirons ce Dieu qui nous aime et son amour pour l’univers. Saint Ignace de Loyola nous aide à choisir tout ce qui est bon dans ces bons qui sont devant nous. Fixons la finalité de la vie reçue du Seigneur, et le choix se fera facilement.

Pour mieux vivre notre vie dans la joie et dans le bonheur, il faut savoir discerner tout ce qui est bon pour nous, avoir le courage de choisir le meilleur et mettre en œuvre notre décision. Sans vider, nous ne pouvons pas le remplir. Il est important de couper et d’arracher tout ce qui nous empêche de nous avancer, comme un vigneron qui taille la branche de sa vigne. Demandons au Seigneur la grâce de discernement.

41 For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ, will by no means lose his reward.42 "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung round his neck and he were thrown into the sea. 43 And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire.45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell. 47 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, 48 where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched. 49 For every one will be salted with fire. 50 Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its saltness, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another."

The message

It is important that we fix the philosophy of life. I begin my life in believing, since God is the fullness of Goodness, anything that comes from God has to be good. However all that is good need not be good for all. We all have different mission and different work to accomplish. Once the mission is chosen and finalised, the choice of life will be easier. We need not break our head to chose from good and bad, because the response is net and clear. We are called to choose what is the best for us among the many good presented or available to us.

It is in this process of discernment that Jesus is asking each and every one us to decide the path and avoid anything which hinders us, even some essential part of ourselves. And it is not easy. To discern what is best for us, we should know the finality of our life and the means that God has proposed to us. It is not good to beg on the street while keeping million in our bank. We should know what we have and what we lack. Thus a self-knowledge will help us to discern and chose better. Just like pruning a rose plant, we should learn to cut and spare for better fruit.

Let us not lose the saltiness and the light though little it may be that God has entrusted to us to accomplish His will. Though we are not working for reward, Jesus seems to propose to us that every little good gesture and act will never be forgotten.
