My Sunday Homily

Every dominical celebration is a get together of the people of God, and this faithful who long to hear the Word of God, are fully aware the necessity to have an open mind and heart. In the first reading we are invited to welcome each other as they are, especially by reminding us of our own story. God draws our attention that the weak, the hungry, the oppressed, the immigrants are our brothers who need us. Since we are the children of God, since He accepts us as we are, with our weaknesses and our limits, we try to follow him faithfully, by our acts of charity. He is our Father, the Father of all, who listens to the cry of every poor man in front of our door.

He is our rock, on this rock of love,  we build our house. The man who puts his trust in this Rock will be like a tree planted on the river bank , which gives fruit in time. How can a man forget or ignore this God who saves us? We know from our history that this God who accompanied the people of Israel, is still accompanying us through this holy church. Church helps us to understand, how much God loves us and she keeps reminding us of our baptismal vocation, 'hold the Light always on' and our Christian duty, 'to love one another as I have loved you'.

This word 'love' is very often used in a wild way, that man loves his dish, loves this flower, he loves everything and everyone. When we say, 'I love you', say exactly what? We must look at Jesus, how He has loved us and how He still loves us.

By his obedience, He has created for us a divine proximity, and by his incarnation He has perpetuated this closeness. By the same incarnation, He revealed to us the divine plan, the project of salvation. Like Him, on our part, we must seek the divine presence in us, discover and feel this closeness through the Holy Spirit, who continues to accompany us and protect us. It is in this closeness and intimacy, we present ourselves before the Lord, so that He discovers us and transforms us.

Jesus participated in our suffering, from birth to death. By his incarnation He purified our birth and by his death he offered us the resurrection. God allowed himself to be discovered in Jesus Christ and in Him He committed himself for the good of all. Like Him, we must discover God by letting ourselves be avaible for others to discover us and  commit to the fulfillment of the divine will.

To love an unknown and invisible God is easy and to love the neighbour known and before you, it is difficult. Jesus reminds us that divine love is best expressed in human love. We cannot love an invisible God, without being able to love one another, who make th

is God visible. There is a lot of poor Lazarus in front of our door. Let's get out of our places of security and open our doors. We must learn to take the steps towards neighbours who are in the peripheries of our society, who hope for our attention. It is here we will discover that God of love, who is waiting for us. Amen.
