Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

(Mt 12, 1-8)

En ce temps-là, Jésus passait, un jour de sabbat, à travers les champs de blé, et ses disciples eurent faim ; ils se mirent à arracher des épis et à les manger.
En voyant cela, les pharisiens lui dirent : « Voilà que tes disciples font ce qu'il n'est pas permis de faire le jour du sabbat ! »
Mais il leur répondit : « N'avez-vous pas lu ce que fit David, quand il eut faim, ainsi que ses compagnons ? Il entra dans la maison de Dieu, et ils mangèrent les pains de l'offrande ; or, cela n'était permis ni à lui, ni à ses compagnons, mais aux prêtres seulement. Ou bien encore, n'avez-vous pas lu dans la Loi que le jour du sabbat, les prêtres, dans le Temple, manquent au repos du sabbat sans commettre aucune faute ?
Or, je vous le dis : il y a ici plus grand que le Temple. Si vous aviez compris ce que veut dire cette parole : C'est la miséricorde que je désire, et non les sacrifices, vous n'auriez pas condamné ceux qui n'ont commis aucune faute. Car le Fils de l'homme est maître du sabbat. »

Le message

Dans notre vie quotidienne, nous avons nos habitudes, nos comportements et nos règles qui décident le chemin de la vie. Mais nous oublions habituellement que c’est nous qui devons nous adopter à la vie telle qu’elle est, non pas la vie. Il y a pleines d’exceptions qui font la beauté de la vie. Quand cette vie est remplie d’amour et de pardon, les exceptions nous feront vivre une vie extraordinaire, qui sera le chemin pour les autres.

Nous avons un Dieu de miséricorde et de patience qui nous a déjà montré un chemin en Jésus Christ. Puisque nous sommes ses enfants nous ne devons que marcher sur le Chemin du Seigneur, un chemin d’amour et de pardon.

Matthew 12: 1 - 8

At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the sabbath; his disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck heads of grain and to eat.

But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, "Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the sabbath."

He said to them, "Have you not read what David did, when he was hungry, and those who were with him:

how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which it was not lawful for him to eat nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?

Or have you not read in the law how on the sabbath the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are guiltless?

I tell you, something greater than the temple is here.

And if you had known what this means, `I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the guiltless.

For the Son of man is lord of the sabbath."

The message

Jesus, who has lot of respect for the Law of Moses, finds himself in conflict with the Pharisees on accord with human laws. He doesn’t approve the acts of his disciples, but disapproves the reason given by the Pharisees for their disapproval. This distinction of priorities and the source of convictions are important, when we are faced with an extraordinary situation or with a conflict of value system in the society.

The laws are for us, but each and every one of us cannot make his own law and disturb the equilibrium in the society. But when this laws are oriented with love and mercy, this will show a new way to the new generation, and will give lots of hope for a younger and vibrant society.

Jesus has come to us to teach and show us this new vibrant society. Are we ready to accept this new way of life, or fall back to our own old habitue and remain in a closed society?
