Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

(Mt 18, 1-5.10)

Les disciples s'approchèrent de Jésus et lui dirent : « Qui donc est le plus grand dans le Royaume des cieux ? »

Alors Jésus appela un petit enfant ; il le plaça au milieu d'eux, et il déclara : « Amen, je vous le dis : si vous ne changez pas pour devenir comme les petits enfants, vous n'entrerez point dans le Royaume des cieux. Mais celui qui se fera petit comme cet enfant, c'est celui-là qui est le plus grand dans le Royaume des cieux. Et celui qui accueillera un enfant comme celui-ci en mon nom, c'est moi qu'il accueille. Gardez-vous de mépriser un seul de ces petits, car, je vous le dis, leurs anges dans les cieux voient sans cesse la face de mon Père qui est aux cieux.

Le message

Vivre une vie saine devant le regard de Dieu et transmettre la joie qui jaillisse de cette relation avec Dieu est important pour la foi chrétienne. Cette transmission se commence lors l’accueille d’un frère ou d’une sœur comme nous accueillions les enfants sans aucune condition.

Tout se commence avec l’humilité du Seigneur, le Verbe qui est devenu la chair pour le salut du monde. Notre humilité est enracinée dans l’humilité du Seigneur. Humble devant son Père et devant l’humanité.

Gospel text (Lc 9,57-62):

As Jesus and his disciples went on their way, a man said to him, «I will follow you wherever you go». Jesus said to him, «Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head». To another Jesus said, «Follow me». But he answered, «Let me go back now, for first I want to bury my father». And Jesus said to him, «Let the dead bury their dead; as for you, leave them and proclaim the kingdom of God». Another said to him, «I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say goodbye to my family». And Jesus said to him, «Whoever has put his hand to the plow and looks back is not fit for the kingdom of God».

The message

To follow Jesus we have to accept the life of Jesus as our own. Leaving behind our personal desires and interests and getting rooted in the Spirit of the Lord, where we should be able to say just like Saint Paul, it is not I, but Christ lives in me. There is no turning back. It is just like a one way ticket without any promise of return to the old way of life.

It is not given to all and we have to humbly accept that without the call and grace of God, no one could follow Jesus. Those who have said Yes to God should be humble just like Jesus, our master and be faithful to Him as He is faithful to the Father.
