Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

(Lc 20, 27-40)

Des sadducéens — ceux qui prétendent qu'il n'y a pas de résurrection — vinrent trouver Jésus, et ils l'interrogèrent : « Maître, Moïse nous a donné cette loi : Si un homme a un frère marié mais qui meurt sans enfant, qu'il épouse la veuve pour donner une descendance à son frère.

Or, il y avait sept frères : le premier se maria et mourut sans enfant ; le deuxième, puis le troisième épousèrent la veuve, et ainsi tous les sept : ils moururent sans laisser d'enfants. Finalement la femme mourut aussi. Eh bien, à la résurrection, cette femme, de qui sera-t-elle l'épouse, puisque les sept l'ont eue pour femme ? »

Jésus répond : « Les enfants de ce monde se marient. Mais ceux qui ont été jugés dignes d'avoir part au monde à venir et à la résurrection d'entre les morts ne se marient pas, car ils ne peuvent plus mourir : ils sont semblables aux anges, ils sont fils de Dieu, en étant héritiers de la résurrection.

Quant à dire que les morts doivent ressusciter, Moïse lui-même le fait comprendre dans le récit du buisson ardent, quand il appelle le Seigneur : le Dieu d'Abraham, le Dieu d'Isaac, le Dieu de Jacob. Il n'est pas le Dieu des morts, mais des vivants ; tous vivent en effet pour lui. »

Alors certains scribes prirent la parole pour dire : « Maître, tu as bien parlé. »

Et ils n'osaient plus l'interroger sur quoi que ce soit.

Le message

Personne ne peut nous éclairer sur la résurrection, sinon le Seigneur. Il nous explique qu’à la résurrection, nous serons semblables aux anges. Il nous assure que notre Dieu est un Dieu des vivants.

Ce monde nous propose une vie biologique qui trouve son origine en Dieu, mais qui est conditionnée par le monde matériel qui nous entoure et qui se dégrade petit à petit. Nous croyons que la résurrection va nous proposer une vie spirituelle, détachée de toute condition matérielle, et une vie éternelle, auprès de Dieu, celle des anges. Rendons grâce au Seigneur pour cet éclairage et nous pouvons dire, « Maître, tu as bien parlé. »

La Prière du missel

Seigneur notre Dieu, source et origine de toute paternité, toi qui as donné aux saints martyrs André et ses compagnons la grâce d’être fidèles à la croix de ton Fils jusqu’à l’effusion de leur sang, accorde-nous, par leur intersession, de savoir annoncer aux appelés fils de Dieu et de l’êts ton amour afin de pouvoir l’être vraiment.

Luke 20: 27 - 40

27 There came to him some Sadducees, those who say that there is no resurrection,

28 and they asked him a question, saying, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies, having a wife but no children, the man must take the wife and raise up children for his brother.

29 Now there were seven brothers; the first took a wife, and died without children;

30 and the second

31 and the third took her, and likewise all seven left no children and died.

32 Afterward the woman also died.

33 In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be? For the seven had her as wife."

34 And Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage;

35 but those who are accounted worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage,

36 for they cannot die any more, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

37 But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.

38 Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living; for all live to him."

39 And some of the scribes answered, "Teacher, you have spoken well."

40 For they no longer dared to ask him any question.

The message

Jesus is the only hope and means for our resurrection. Our faith in resurrection is born from the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He is affirming us that our God is, not a God of the dead, rather God of the living. So we can believe that all our elders, who have gone before us continue to live and we can pray for them and pray through them.

Today we don’t realize the kind of life after death. Jesus seems to explain to us that their life will be a life comparable to the angels of the Lord. It’s a consolation to all those who have lost their near and dear ones. Let’s pray for their eternal peace.

The Prayer

Lord, you have shown us the way to the resurrection. We all long for this life and pray that all those who have gone before us, taste the joy of resurrected life. We remember them and pray for them. Give us the hope of resurrection and the joy of eternal peace.
