Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

(Lc 18, 1-8)

Jésus disait une parabole pour montrer à ses disciples qu'il faut toujours prier sans se décourager : « Il y avait dans une ville un juge qui ne respectait pas Dieu et se moquait des hommes. Dans cette même ville, il y avait une veuve qui venait lui demander : 'Rends-moi justice contre mon adversaire.' Longtemps il refusa ; puis il se dit : 'Je ne respecte pas Dieu, et je me moque des hommes, mais cette femme commence à m'ennuyer : je vais lui rendre justice pour qu'elle ne vienne plus sans cesse me casser la tête.' »

Le Seigneur ajouta : « Écoutez bien ce que dit ce juge sans justice ! Dieu ne fera-t-il pas justice à ses élus, qui crient vers lui jour et nuit ? Est-ce qu'il les fait attendre ? Je vous le déclare : sans tarder, il leur fera justice. Mais le Fils de l'homme, quand il viendra, trouvera-t-il la foi sur terre ? »

Le message

Ce n’est pas pour la première fois que le Seigneur nous rappelle l’importance de la foi. La foi est la fondation et la source de notre espérance. Nous croyons en Dieu, le Dieu de miséricorde et de patience. Il ne s’agit pas comme les hommes qui juge par apparence, mais Il voit le cœur, le cœur qui aime Dieu. C’est dans cet amour que le Seigneur souhaite nous rencontrer et c’est encore dans cet amour qu’Il nous invite à vivre notre foi. Que notre vie soit remplit de cet amour divin et que notre vie rende visible cet amour divin à travers l’amour humain. Jésus nous demande de prier. L’amour divin n’est-il pas la source et la force de notre prière ?

Gospel text (Lc 18,1-8):

Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should pray continually and not lose heart. He said, «In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor people. In the same town was a widow who kept coming to him, saying: ‘Defend my rights against my opponent’. For a time he refused, but finally he thought: ‘Even though I neither fear God nor care about people, this widow bothers me so much I will see that she gets justice; then she will stop coming and wearing me out’».

And Jesus explained, «Listen to what the evil judge says. Will God not do justice for his chosen ones who cry to him day and night even if He delays in answering them? I tell you, He will speedily do them justice. Yet, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?».

The message

The prayer is a dialogue between two people who love each other. It is a history of a beautiful love story which we would like to hear again and again and we wish to make it as an essential part of our personal life. Every human relationship is built on this love and our spiritual life is built on this divine love, an unconditional love of God.

The prayer is nourished by the Faith, the faith we have in God. This faith will lose its energy, if it is not build up on the divine love. Jesus worried of human being building their relationship purely on material necessities than transforming it in to a divine love relationship. He is equally worried of this material world which is marching towards a faithless peripheral life, build on the sand. Can we assure Him of our Faith?
