Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

(Lc 19, 1-10)

Jésus traversait la ville de Jéricho.
Or, il y avait un homme du nom de Zachée ; il était le chef des collecteurs d'impôts, et c'était quelqu'un de riche. Il cherchait à voir qui était Jésus, mais il n'y arrivait pas à cause de la foule, car il était de petite taille. Il courut donc en avant et grimpa sur un sycomore pour voir Jésus qui devait passer par là.
Arrivé à cet endroit, Jésus leva les yeux et l'interpella : « Zachée, descends vite : aujourd'hui il faut que j'aille demeurer dans ta maison. »
Vite, il descendit, et reçut Jésus avec joie.
Voyant cela, tous récriminaient : « Il est allé loger chez un pécheur. »
Mais Zachée, s'avançant, dit au Seigneur : « Voilà, Seigneur : je fais don aux pauvres de la moitié de mes biens, et si j'ai fait du tort à quelqu'un, je vais lui rendre quatre fois plus. »
Alors Jésus dit à son sujet : « Aujourd'hui, le salut est arrivé pour cette maison, car lui aussi est un fils d'Abraham. En effet, le Fils de l'homme est venu chercher et sauver ce qui était perdu. »

Le message

Le Seigneur regarde Zachée avec compassion et amour. Pour les autres il était un étranger et un pécheur, mais pour le Seigneur, il était le fils d’Abraham, le bien aimé du Père. Portons attention sur notre regard vers les autres et comment regardons-nous les fils d’Abraham ?

Jetons un regard sur le comportement de Zachée. Il est allé voir Jésus et devant le Seigneur il se voit et il s’est converti. Chaque rencontre humaine doit nous apporter la même joie et s’il est nécessaire, une conversion.

Même si Zachée était invisible pour les autres, le Seigneur n’a vu seulement la personne qui le cherchait, mais il a reconnu également la soif et la faim de Zachée.

Imitons le comportement de Zachée qui va nous aider à nous convertir et que nous ayons le même regard du Seigneur, qui est capable de pouvoir reconnaitre les invisibles qui nous entourent quotidiennement.

Gospel text (Lc 19,1-10):

When Jesus entered Jericho and was going through the city, a man named Zaccheus was there. He was a tax collector and a wealthy man. He wanted to see what Jesus was like, but he was a short man and could not see because of the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed up a sycamore tree. From there he would be able to see Jesus who had to pass that way. When Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, ‘Zaccheus, come down quickly for I must stay at your house today’. So Zaccheus hurried down and received him joyfully.

All the people who saw it began to grumble and said, «He has gone to the house of a sinner as a guest». But Zaccheus spoke to Jesus, «The half of my goods, Lord, I give to the poor, and if I have cheated anyone, I will pay him back four times as much». Looking at him Jesus said, «Salvation has come to this house today, for he is also a true son of Abraham. The Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost».

The message

This riche man, on a sudden realizes that he is poor in front of Jesus. It’s all happened by his curiosity to see Jesus. It is in this curiosity he realizes that he a short man and runs before Jesus. He never misses this wonderful gift offered by Jesus to him, “Zaccheus, come down quickly for I must stay at your house today’ and he stats feasting.

It is the right time for us to make an examination of conscience. Do we take the initiative to run like him to see Jesus? Are we ready to listen this invitation of Jesus to come and dine with Him? How is our experience when we meet the Lord in the Eucharist? Is there a declaration of Faith and does this meeting invites us for a conversion?

Jesus is capable of seeing even a little imitative taken like running before Jesus and climbing up on the tree like this rich man. Jesus continues to look us with the same compassion and love. He is ready to forgive any kind of sins, provided we get converted.

Is there someone to listen and respond positively to this invitation of Jesus?
