Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Marc

(Mc 3, 31-35)

Comme Jésus était dans une maison, sa mère et ses frères arrivent. Restant au-dehors, ils le font demander.
Beaucoup de gens étaient assis autour de lui ; et on lui dit :
« Ta mère et tes frères sont là dehors, qui te cherchent. »
Mais il leur répond :
« Qui est ma mère ? qui sont mes frères ? »
Et parcourant du regard ceux qui étaient assis en cercle autour de lui, il dit :
« Voici ma mère et mes frères. Celui qui fait la volonté de Dieu, celui-là est mon frère, ma sœur, ma mère. »

Le message

Tous ceux et celles qui écoutent la Parole du Seigneur et la mettent en pratiques sont fait parties des membres de la famille du Seigneur. Jésus est venu pour faire la volonté du Père. Or la volonté du Père, ce que nous connaissions le Père, que nous le reconnaissions dans le Fils unique, et que nous croyions à la Bonne Nouvelle annoncées.

Jésus nous montre que sa mère est la personne qui a écouté la Parole du Père, celle qui a dit à l’ange du Seigneur que sa volonté soit faite. Un jour elle nous dira, « faite tout ce qu’il vous dira. » Aujourd’hui, même si elle se met au dehors, Jésus savait bien qu’elle est déjà entrée dans la maison du Père. C’est pourquoi dans cette réponse elle voit l’accomplissement de la promesse faite à notre père Abraham et dans son silence elle se réjouit.

Gospel text (Mc 3,31-35):

Jesus' mother and brothers came. As they stood outside, they sent someone to call him. The crowd sitting around Jesus told him, «Your mother and your brothers are outside asking for you». He replied, «Who are my mother and my brothers?». And looking around at those who sat there he said, «Here are my mother and my brothers. Whoever does the will of God is brother and sister and mother to me».

The message

There are many moments in the gospel it seems to us as if the mother of Jesus is lost by the manner her son responded to her. Today we understand the words of Jesus much better than those days. But for Mary, it was not the case. She could meditate the deeper sense of all that her son has said and she was able to understand the mystery of incarnation with all its implications.

She understood well that Jesus has a large family beyond the human relationship. It is in this largeness she said to the servant in the marriage house, “do all that he will ask you to do.” Her ‘YES’ to the angel had the same meaning of doing all that the Father asked her to do for the Son of God.

It is doing the will of the Father that Jesus accomplished the scriptures. It is in responding to the annunciation with a firm YES that Mary could participate in the mission of God. Where are we today? Do we mediate and say YES or still asking questions?
