Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

(Lc 9, 22-25)

Jésus disait à ses disciples : « Il faut que le Fils de l'homme souffre beaucoup, qu'il soit rejeté par les anciens, les chefs des prêtres et les scribes, qu'il soit tué, et que, le troisième jour, il ressuscite. »
Il disait aussi à la foule : « Celui qui veut marcher à ma suite, qu'il renonce à lui-même, qu'il prenne sa croix chaque jour, et qu'il me suive.
Car celui qui veut sauver sa vie la perdra ; mais celui qui perdra sa vie pour moi la sauvera.
Quel avantage un homme aura-t-il à gagner le monde entier, si c'est en se perdant lui-même et en le payant de sa propre existence ? »

Le message

Le temps de carême est un moment où nous sommes appelés à suivre le Seigneur fidèlement et radicalement en prenant notre croix quotidienne pour que le Seigneur nous amène avec sa Croix et celles des nôtres jusqu’à la résurrection.

Nous avons quarante jours. Hier nous avons choisi la prière, le jeûne et la pénitence pour nous accompagner tout ce temps de carême. Aujourd’hui nous sommes invités à nous renoncer, comme Jésus pour accomplir la volonté du Père.

Jésus par sa vie nous confirme que le chemin de la croix n’est pas une option pour participer à la résurrection, mais un impératif.

Gospel text (Lc 9,22-25):

Jesus said, «The Son of Man must suffer many things. He will be rejected by the elders and chief priests and teachers of the Law, and put to death. Then after three days he will be raised to life». Jesus also said to all the people, «If you wish to be a follower of mine, deny yourself and take up your cross each day, and follow me. For if you choose to save your life, you will lose it, and if you choose to lose your life for my sake, you will save it. What does it profit you to gain the whole world while you destroy or damage yourself?».

The message

The Lenten season gives us a wonderful opportunity for conversion and reconciliation. We have chosen the prayer, the fasting and penitence as the means to accompany us in our spiritual endeavor during this season towards Easter.

The very next day Jesus is proposing us the self denial as a means to live today in a meaningful way. The self denial will make a space for Jesus through our others brothers and sisters to enter in us and make our hearts as His divine residence.

It is by abandoning ourselves to the will of the Father in grace and accepting our weakness and limitedness as our daily cross that we can deny ourselves and gain the divine presence as an eternal gift from God. What is wonderful in this self denial is that we are not losing ourselves, but in God we gain our own existence in its pure and original form.
