Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

(Lc 7, 11-17)

Jésus se rendait dans une ville appelée Naïm. Ses disciples faisaient route avec lui, ainsi qu'une grande foule. Il arriva près de la porte de la ville au moment où l'on transportait un mort pour l'enterrer ; c'était un fils unique, et sa mère était veuve. Une foule considérable accompagnait cette femme.
En la voyant, le Seigneur fut saisi de pitié pour elle, et lui dit : « Ne pleure pas. » Il s'avança et toucha la civière ; les porteurs s'arrêtèrent, et Jésus dit : « Jeune homme, je te l'ordonne, lève-toi. » Alors le mort se redressa, s'assit et se mit à parler. Et Jésus le rendit à sa mère.

La crainte s'empara de tous, et ils rendaient gloire à Dieu : « Un grand prophète s'est levé parmi nous, et Dieu a visité son peuple. » Et cette parole se répandit dans toute la Judée et dans les pays voisins.

Le message

Nous pouvons tirer beaucoup de message dans cet évangile. D’abord, regardons le comportement du Seigneur. Il est entouré par une grande foule. Même dans ce bruit et voit déjà une autre foule qui entoure cette mère qui était veuve. Voilà un signe de la présence. Il s’arrête et fait une petite pause. Nous devons ressentir non seulement notre mouvement de vie, mais aussi ceux des autres. C’est ainsi nous seront capable de faire cette pause.

Le deuxième message : c’est Jésus qui prend l’initiative. Si nous pouvons apporter quelque chose aux autres, pourquoi attendre pour l’appel. Comme la Vierge Marie qui est allée à aider sa cousine Elizabeth, nous devons prendre le premier pas vers les autres. C’est un esprit purement humain et chrétien.

Le troisième message : rendons grâce au Seigneur pour tout ce que nous avons reçu. Cette vie n’est pas assez pour rendre grâce au Seigneur. C’est pourquoi nous devons transformer notre vie elle-même comme une action de grâce.

Gospel text (Lc 7,11-17): Jesus went to a town called Naim and many of his disciples went with him —a great number of people. As He reached the gate of the town, a dead man was being carried out. He was the only son of his mother and she was a widow; there followed a large crowd of townspeople. On seeing her, the Lord had pity on her and said, «Don't cry». Then He came up and touched the stretcher and the men who carried it stopped. Jesus then said, «Young man, awake, I tell you». And the dead man got up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. A holy fear came over them all and they praised God saying, «A great prophet has appeared among us; God has visited his people». This news spread out in the Jewish country and the surrounding places.

The message

There are three visible and simple messages in this gospel. The first message is, the presence of mind. Jesus was already surrounded by a big crowd. Even in this crowd He was able to sense the presence of the other group totally sad and disappointed. This presence of mind helped Him to make a little pause in life. Let us learn to make little pause in life like the Good Samaritan and keep our eyes always open to the events around us.

It is Jesus who is taking the initiative. Let us learn from Him to take the initiative and reach-out the people who are in need of us. If we aware that we can do something to others, like the blessed Mary, who reached to Elizabeth, let us move towards the needy.

The third message: glorify the Lord at all time. Be aware of all that we have received and let our life be transformed as the action of grace. Thus we will be contemplative in our relationship with God and active in our relationship with our brothers and sisters.
