Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

(Lc 17, 11-19)

Jésus, marchant vers Jérusalem, traversait la Samarie et la Galilée. Comme il entrait dans un village, dix lépreux vinrent à sa rencontre. Ils s'arrêtèrent à distance et lui crièrent : « Jésus, maître, prends pitié de nous. » En les voyant, Jésus leur dit : « Allez vous montrer aux prêtres. »
En cours de route, ils furent purifiés. L'un d'eux, voyant qu'il était guéri, revint sur ses pas, en glorifiant Dieu à pleine voix. Il se jeta la face contre terre aux pieds de Jésus en lui rendant grâce. Or, c'était un Samaritain. Alors Jésus demanda : « Est-ce que tous les dix n'ont pas été purifiés ? Et les neuf autres, où sont-ils ? On ne les a pas vus revenir pour rendre gloire à Dieu ; il n'y a que cet étranger ! » Jésus lui dit : « Relève-toi et va : ta foi t'a sauvé. »

Le message

Dans cette histoire, nous pouvons tirer deux messages. Le premier, de la part d’un des lépreux qui a reconnu la guérison, et qui s’est rendu devant le Seigneur avec un sentiment de remerciement. Si nous nous ne rendons pas devant le Seigneur, nous n’avons pas encore reconnu les dons donc nous avons reçu du Seigneur.

Le deuxième message, de la part du Seigneur. Il est capable d’apporter quelque chose aux lépreux et Il leurs répond positivement par une guérison extraordinaire. Nous sommes invités à apporter tout ce que nous pouvons, comme un garçon avec deux poissons dans la multiplication du pain.

Gospel text (Lc 17,11-19):

On the way to Jerusalem, Jesus was passing along the border between Samaria and Galilee, and as He entered a village, ten lepers came to meet him. Keeping their distance, they called to him, «Jesus, Master, have pity on us!». Then Jesus said to them, «Go and show yourselves to the priests». Now, as they went their way, they found they were cured.

One of them, as soon as he saw he was cleansed, turned back praising God in a loud voice, and throwing himself on his face before Jesus, he gave him thanks. This man was a Samaritan. «Was no one found to return and give praise to God but this alien?». And Jesus said to him, «Stand up and go your way; your faith has saved you».

The message

Let us look in to this story in a purely spiritual out-look, without getting into exegetical studies. When I look this story, I infer two messages to live today. The first one is from the behavior of the healed person. He has realized the healing and it is from this self-realization that he could come back to God and thank Him. The lesson that I learn from this story is, only if I am capable of realizing the gifts I have received from God that I could god back to God with a sense of gratitude and will glorify God in my life.

The second message is that we should be always be ready and be available to do all that we can do it, though very little it may be. Like the little boy who shared the two bread and fish for the multiplication of the bread, we should learn to share what we have, so that the Lord may do the multiplication.
