Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Marc

(Mc 4, 26-34)

En ce temps-là,

Jésus disait aux foules :
« Il en est du règne de Dieu
comme d’un homme qui jette en terre la semence :
nuit et jour,
qu’il dorme ou qu’il se lève,
la semence germe et grandit,
il ne sait comment.
D’elle-même, la terre produit d’abord l’herbe,
puis l’épi, enfin du blé plein l’épi.
Et dès que le blé est mûr,
il y met la faucille,
puisque le temps de la moisson est arrivé. »

Il disait encore :
« À quoi allons- nous comparer le règne de Dieu ?
Par quelle parabole pouvons- nous le représenter ?
Il est comme une graine de moutarde :
quand on la sème en terre,
elle est la plus petite de toutes les semences.
Mais quand on l’a semée,
elle grandit et dépasse toutes les plantes potagères ;
et elle étend de longues branches,
si bien que les oiseaux du ciel
peuvent faire leur nid à son ombre. »

Par de nombreuses paraboles semblables,
Jésus leur annonçait la Parole,
dans la mesure où ils étaient capables de l’entendre.
Il ne leur disait rien sans parabole,
mais il expliquait tout à ses disciples en particulier.

Le message

Jésus nous explique que Dieu est Le semeur du grain en nous, dans notre cœur. Si nous l’accueillions avec une grand joie, nous pouvons ressentir ses fruits, pas immédiatement, mais plus tard, comme une graine de moutarde. C’est Dieu qui travaille en nous, et notre travail ne ce que partager tout ce que nous avons reçu.

Puisque les fruits ne sont pas visibles immédiatement, nous avons besoin de persévérance et patience. Petit à petit ce grain va se grandir en nous, dans notre famille, dans notre quartier, dans notre société. C’est pourquoi nous ne devons pas nous décourager ou désespérer, car Dieu travaille en nous. Si notre coopération est positive, elle donnera les fruits cent, soixante ou quarante pourcent.

Gospel text (Mc 4,26-34):

Jesus said, «In the kingdom of God it is like this. A man scatters seed upon the soil. Whether he is asleep or awake, be it day or night, the seed sprouts and grows, he knows not how. The soil produces of itself; first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. And when it is ripe for harvesting they take the sickle for the cutting: the time for harvest has come».

Jesus also said, «What is the kingdom of God like? To what shall we compare it? It is like a mustard seed which, when sown, is the smallest of all the seeds scattered upon the soil. But once sown, it grows up and becomes the largest of the plants in the garden and even grows branches so big that the birds of the air can take shelter in its shade». Jesus used many such stories or parables, to proclaim the word to them in a way they would be able to understand. He would not teach them without parables; but privately to his disciples he explained everything.

The message

How to understand the Kingdom of God? I understand like this: It is God who puts the seed in our hearts and we don’t know how it gets root in us and grows in us. Like a mustard seed, once it gets rooted, it will give much fruit. The fruits are peace, joy, happiness, forgiveness, fraternity, etc.

Where ever this joy, peace and forgiveness are found, there we will find the sign of the presence of God’s Kingdom. It is because that Jesus has said to us, in Him God’s Kingdom gets its visibility par excellence.

The more we realize this truth, we will try to develop the talents that God has given to us, because through these talents that we will help the grain to grow in us and will get the visibility one day. Thus we need patience and perseverance working all time, even though we don't see the fruit of it, putting all hope in the Lord, who works in and through us.
