Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Marc

(Mc 4, 35-41)

Ce jour-là, le soir venu, Jésus dit à ses disciples :
« Passons sur l’autre rive. »
Quittant la foule, ils emmenèrent Jésus, comme il était,
dans la barque,
et d’autres barques l’accompagnaient.
Survient une violente tempête.
Les vagues se jetaient sur la barque,
si bien que déjà elle se remplissait.
Lui dormait sur le coussin à l’arrière.
Les disciples le réveillent et lui disent :
« Maître, nous sommes perdus ;
cela ne te fait rien ? »
Réveillé, il menaça le vent et dit à la mer :
« Silence, tais- toi ! »
Le vent tomba,
et il se fit un grand calme.
Jésus leur dit :
« Pourquoi êtes-vous si craintifs ?
N’avez-vous pas encore la foi ? »
Saisis d’une grande crainte,
ils se disaient entre eux :
« Qui est-il donc, celui-ci,
pour que même le vent et la mer lui obéissent ? »

Le message

Les vagues dans notre vie sont une grâce de Dieu, car ces vagues nous aident à découvrir la profondeur de notre foi. Tous ceux et celles qui ont dépassés ces vagues, sont capables de reconnaitre la présence de Dieu dans leurs vie.

Abraham, le père de notre foi a cru à la Parole d’un Dieu inconnu. Petit à petit il a découvert ce Dieu qui l’a accompagné toute sa vie. Ce Dieu nous accompagne et nous nous ne ressentons que son silence devant nos vagues de la vie. Pourtant faisons confiance et nous vivrons.

Gospel text (Mc 4,35-41):

On that same day when eve­ning had come, Jesus said to them, «Let's go across to the other side». So they left the crowd and took him away in the boat he had been sitting in, and other boats set out with him. Then a storm gathered and it began to blow a gale. The waves spilled over into the boat so that it was soon filled with water. And Jesus was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. They woke him up and said, «Master, don't you care if we sink?».

As Jesus awoke, He rebuked the wind and ordered the sea, «Quiet now! Be still!». The wind dropped and there was a great calm. Then Jesus said to them, «Why are you so frightened? Do you still have no faith?». But they were terrified and they said to one another, «Who can this be? Even the wind and the sea obey him!».

The message

The storms of life are very often become a blessing for us in the future. It is in these storms that we discover the depth of our faith and the need to grow deeper. Like Abraham, the father of Faith, we are called to believe in this God who accompanies us in silence and discrete.

These storms help us to call God and awaken His presence in us. The salvation history does helps us to understand how God accompanied the people of Israel and how they were unfaithful to this faithful God.

All that Jesus is telling us is «Why are you so frightened?” of life and the difficulties of daily crosses? Let us put our faith in God and go forward doing good and being good.
