Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc (Lc 1, 57-66.80)

Quand arriva le moment où Élisabeth devait enfanter, elle mit au monde un fils. Ses voisins et sa famille apprirent que le Seigneur lui avait prodigué sa miséricorde, et ils se réjouissaient avec elle.
Le huitième jour, ils vinrent pour la circoncision de l'enfant. Ils voulaient le nommer Zacharie comme son père. Mais sa mère déclara : « Non, il s'appellera Jean. » On lui répondit : « Personne dans ta famille ne porte ce nom-là ! »
On demandait par signes au père comment il voulait l'appeler. Il se fit donner une tablette sur laquelle il écrivit : « Son nom est Jean. » Et tout le monde en fut étonné. À l'instant même, sa bouche s'ouvrit, sa langue se délia : il parlait et il bénissait Dieu. La crainte saisit alors les gens du voisinage, et dans toute la montagne de Judée on racontait tous ces événements.
Tous ceux qui les apprenaient en étaient frappés et disaient : « Que sera donc cet enfant ? » En effet, la main du Seigneur était avec lui.
L'enfant grandit et son esprit se fortifiait. Il alla vivre au désert jusqu'au jour où il devait être manifesté à Israël.

Le message

Aujourd’hui l’Eglise universelle fête la nativité de saint Jean Baptiste. Avec Marie, Jésus et Jean, nous rendons grâce au Seigneur pour tant de merveilles.

L’homme dans sa petitesse n’arrivera jamais à découvrir les projets de Dieu dans sa totalité, pourtant avec la grâce de Dieu et par son soutient, l’homme est capable de les découvrir.

Dans la naissance de saint Jean nous voyons déjà l’incarnation du Seigneur, la fidélité du Père, et la faiblesse des hommes. Dieu continue à travailler et par ses événements Il nous révèle ses projets pour le salut du monde. Il nous invité à participer à sa mission. Que la fête de la nativité de saint Jean soit une occasion pour nous puissions dire OUI comme la Mère de Jésus.

Luke 1: 57 - 66, 80

Now the time came for Elizabeth to be delivered, and she gave birth to a son.

58

And her neighbors and kinsfolk heard that the Lord had shown great mercy to her, and they rejoiced with her.

59

And on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they would have named him Zechari'ah after his father,

60

but his mother said, "Not so; he shall be called John."

61

And they said to her, "None of your kindred is called by this name."

62

And they made signs to his father, inquiring what he would have him called.

63

And he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, "His name is John." And they all marveled.

64

And immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, blessing God.

65

And fear came on all their neighbors. And all these things were talked about through all the hill country of Judea;

66

and all who heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, "What then will this child be?" For the hand of the Lord was with him.

And the child grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the wilderness till the day of his manifestation to Israel.

The message

The nativity of Saint John the Baptiste reminds us of God’s faithfulness and human incapacity to understand this faithfulness of God. But God is beyond of human conditions and He reveals to the humanity His plan through Jesus Christ His son.

All those those who believe this generosity and faithfulness of God will find Him very close to them and they will cherish His presence and the world will find God’s presence in them and through them.

Today God needs many such faithful people like Mary who could say always YES to God even if they don’t understand fully the plan of God and put all their confidence in the Lord. It is though this confidence that we can go closer to God and understand Him.
