Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Marc

(Mc 8, 1-10)

En ces jours-là, comme il y avait de nouveau une grande foule de gens, et qu'ils n'avaient pas de quoi manger, Jésus appelle à lui ses disciples et leur dit :
« J'ai pitié de cette foule, car depuis trois jours déjà ils sont avec moi, et n'ont rien à manger. Si je les renvoie chez eux à jeun, ils vont défaillir en route ; or, quelques-uns d'entre eux sont venus de loin. »
Ses disciples lui répondirent :
« Où donc pourra-t-on trouver du pain pour qu'ils en mangent à leur faim, dans ce désert ? »
Il leur demanda :
« Combien de pains avez-vous ? »
Ils lui dirent : « Sept. »
Alors il ordonna à la foule de s'asseoir par terre.
Puis, prenant les sept pains et rendant grâce, il les rompit, et il les donnait à ses disciples pour que ceux-ci les distribuent ; et ils les distribuèrent à la foule.
On avait aussi quelques petits poissons.
Il les bénit et les fit distribuer aussi.
Ils mangèrent à leur faim, et, des morceaux qui restaient, on ramassa sept corbeilles.
Or, ils étaient environ quatre mille.
Puis Jésus les renvoya.
Aussitôt, montant dans la barque avec ses disciples, il alla dans la région de Dalmanoutha.

Le message

Jésus est besoin de nos petits pains pour qu’il puisse les multiplier. La multiplication est un travail du Seigneur. Il veut que nous participions de notre manière à la mission du Seigneur si peu qu’il soit.

Portons en petit attention au regard du Seigneur et ceux de ses disciples. Les disciples regardent tout ce qu’ils n’ont pas et le Seigneur cherche tout ce qu’ils ont. Si nous cherchons dans notre vie tout ce que nous avons et tout ce que nous avons reçu dans notre vie, cette vie n’est pas assez à rendre grâce au Seigneur. Si nous cherchons tout ce que nous n’avons pas, nous avons besoin une éternité pour les compter. Faisons notre propre choix dans la vie quotidienne, et marchons sur le bon chemin, le chemin du bonheur.

Il y aussi important que nous ne restons pas dans un lieu de gloire purement humaine. Jésus invite ses disciples à découvrir la gloire du Père, en les amenant à l’écart de la foule vers une autre région. Ce déplacement est important dans notre vie quotidienne pour que nous découvrions les merveilles de Dieu.

Gospel text (Mc 8,1-10):

A great crowd had gathered, and they had nothing to eat. So Jesus called his disciples and said to them, «I feel sorry for these people because they have been with me for three days and now have nothing to eat. If I send them to their homes hungry, they will faint on the way; some of them have come a long way». His disciples replied, «Where in a deserted place like this could we get enough bread to feed these people?». He asked them, «How many loaves have you?». And they answered, «Seven».

Then He ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground. Taking the seven loaves and giving thanks, he broke them and handed them to his disciples to distribute. And they distributed them among the people. They also had some small fish, so Jesus said a blessing and asked that these be shared as well. The people ate and were satisfied. The broken pieces were collected, seven wicker baskets full of leftovers. Now there had been about four thousand people. Jesus sent them away and immediately got into the boat with his disciples and went to the region of Dalmanutha.

The message

The multiplication of the bread is a classic story where we find the love of Jesus for all those who are suffering and in need of him. He responds positively to all the needs of the humanity. It is not only the compassion of the Lord which strikes my attention; there is an intimate call and dialogue from the part of Jesus. He invites the disciples to engage. He expresses His need of little bread from us so that the multiplication could take place. In His entire mission, today He wishes that we participle actively, even though our participation may be very little.

The send important aspect of today’s gospel is the way Jesus and the disciples look at an event. In a desert place the disciples look and search something which is not available. Their attention is fixed on what they don’t have. They see only a desert, just like Peter and Mary Magdalena who saw an empty tomb. Whereas Jesus fixes His attention on all that they have: seven loaves.

In our daily life to, if we look at all that we have and all that we have received in our life, this life is not enough to give thanks to the Lord. If we look all that we don’t have or haven’t received, an eternity is not enough to count them. Let us make a positive choice in life and walk on the path of hope, by searching all that we have and be happy.
