Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Marc

(Mc 9, 30-37)

Jésus traversait la Galilée avec ses disciples, et il ne voulait pas qu'on le sache.
Car il les instruisait en disant : « Le Fils de l'homme est livré aux mains des hommes ; ils le tueront et, trois jours après sa mort, il ressuscitera. »
Mais les disciples ne comprenaient pas ces paroles et ils avaient peur de l'interroger.

Ils arrivèrent à Capharnaüm, et, une fois à la maison, Jésus leur demandait : « De quoi discutiez-vous en chemin ? »
Ils se taisaient, car, sur la route, ils avaient discuté entre eux pour savoir qui était le plus grand.
S'étant assis, Jésus appela les Douze et leur dit : « Si quelqu'un veut être le premier, qu'il soit le dernier de tous et le serviteur de tous. »
Prenant alors un enfant, il le plaça au milieu d'eux, l'embrassa, et leur dit :
« Celui qui accueille en mon nom un enfant comme celui-ci, c'est moi qu'il accueille. Et celui qui m'accueille ne m'accueille pas moi, mais Celui qui m'a envoyé. »

Le message

On se laisse facilement déranger par les soucis du monde qui tente d’escaler tous les niveaux de la vie, soit matériels, soit spirituelle. Avec ce comportement de compétition et jalousie, nous ne pouvons jamais comprendre la Parole du Seigneur. Nous devons humblement accepter que La Parole du Seigneur soit un mystère et nous avons besoin du Seigneur pour la comprendre. Même si nous vivons avec le Seigneur et par Lui, les tentations du monde nous accompagneront toute notre vie. Saint Jacques dans sa lettre nous propose l’humilité pour les convaincre. C’est dans cette humilité que nous pouvons comprendre le mystère du Seigneur, sa Parole et ses merveilles.

Comme hier, portons attentions au comportement du Seigneur et ses disciples afin d’apprendre tout ce que nous devons apprendre pour affiner notre démarche spirituelle. Les disciples se préoccupent et disputent sur leur propre développement, or Jésus voit la Croix, le pécher du monde et comment Il va sauver le peuple de Dieu. Si nous fixons nos regards sur nous-mêmes, est-il possible pour nous de fixer nos regards sur la volonté du Père ?

Gospel text (Mc 9,30-37):

Jesus and his disciples made their way through Galilee; but Jesus did not want people to know where he was because he was teaching his disciples. And He told them, «The Son of Man will be delivered into human hands. They will kill him, but three days after he has been killed, He will rise». The disciples, however, did not understand these words and they were afraid to ask him what He meant.

They came to Capernaum and, once inside the house, Jesus asked them, «What were you discussing on the way?». But they did not answer because they had been arguing about who was the greatest. Then he sat down, called the Twelve and said to them, «If someone wants to be first, let him be last of all and servant of all». Then He took a little child, placed it in their midst, and putting his arms around it he said to them, «Whoever welcomes a child such as this in my name, welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me, welcomes not me but the One who sent me».

The message

It is not enough to be with the Lord and to listen to Him. It is important to understand what the Lord is saying to us and be part of the message communicated to us, so that we may involve fully in the accomplishment of the will of the Father. However, we have to humbly acknowledge that alone it is not possible for us to understand the mystery of the Word of God, even if it is communicated to us directly and personally. It is in this humility and patience that we will understand this mystery. Jesus in this gospel is pointing us one the great huddles that we may have in the understanding of this mystery: Jealousy and the impatience to achieve human glory.

Jesus reminds us that in the smallness of life and responding positively to the needs of others, it is possible to be His disciple. If our orientation is fixed towards the well being of our neighbors, and creating a just society where the Kingdom God could find its explicit presence, then Jesus seems to affirm us that we are at the service of the Lord. Let us look beyond our personal interest and goal, by putting the society in front of us, where we are a member, we too will fulfill the will of the Father and have a life filled with joy and peace.
