Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

(Mt 6, 24-34)

Comme les disciples s'étaient rassemblés autour de Jésus, sur la montagne, il leur disait :
« Aucun homme ne peut servir deux maîtres : ou bien il détestera l'un et aimera l'autre, ou bien il s'attachera à l'un et méprisera l'autre. Vous ne pouvez pas servir à la fois Dieu et l'Argent. C'est pourquoi je vous dis : Ne vous faites pas tant de souci pour votre vie, au sujet de la nourriture, ni pour votre corps, au sujet des vêtements. La vie ne vaut-elle pas plus que la nourriture, et le corps plus que les vêtements ? Regardez les oiseaux du ciel : ils ne font ni semailles ni moisson, ils ne font pas de réserves dans des greniers, et votre Père céleste les nourrit. Ne valez-vous pas beaucoup plus qu'eux ? D'ailleurs, qui d'entre vous, à force de souci, peut prolonger tant soit peu son existence ? Et au sujet des vêtements, pourquoi se faire tant de souci ? Observez comment poussent les lis des champs : ils ne travaillent pas, ils ne filent pas. Or je vous dis que Salomon lui-même, dans toute sa gloire, n'était pas habillé comme l'un d'eux. Si Dieu habille ainsi l'herbe des champs, qui est là aujourd'hui, et qui demain sera jetée au feu, ne fera-t-il pas bien davantage pour vous, hommes de peu de foi ? Ne vous faites donc pas tant de souci ; ne dites pas : 'Qu'allons-nous manger ?' ou bien : 'Qu'allons-nous boire ?' ou encore : 'Avec quoi nous habiller ?' Tout cela, les païens le recherchent. Mais votre Père céleste sait que vous en avez besoin.
Cherchez d'abord son Royaume et sa justice, et tout cela vous sera donné par-dessus le marché. Ne vous faites pas tant de souci pour demain : demain se souciera de lui-même ; à chaque jour suffit sa peine. »

Le message

Quel est notre trésor et où mettons-nous nos cœurs ? Nous avons le choix : choisissons, soit les plaisirs le monde nous apporte, soit le Créateur qui est la source de tout plaisir que nous pouvons imaginer. Appliquons notre intelligence et choisissons le Créateur.

Si nous arrivons à nous confier à la providence du Seigneur, mettons notre avenir à la volonté du Père, nous serons entièrement libérés de ce monde, et nous deviendrons les enfants du Royaume de Dieu.

Lorsque nous devenons les membres de son Royaume, nous serons capables de discerner tout ce qui est bon pour nous et aussi pour les autres. Ce jour-là nous servirons le Seigneur, notre Maître, par excellence, d’une manière radicale et parfaite, à l’image de Dieu Lui-même.

Gospel text (Mt 6,24-34):

Jesus said to his disciples, «No one can serve two masters; for he will either hate one and love the other, or he will be loyal to the first and look down on the second. You cannot at the same time serve God and money. This is why I tell you not to be worried about food and drink for yourself, or about clothes for your body. Is not life more important than food and is not the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow, they do not harvest and do not store food in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than birds? Can any of you add a day to your life by worrying about it?

»Why are you so worried about your clothes? Look at the flowers in the fields how they grow. They do not toil or spin. But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his wealth was clothed like one of these. If God so clothes the grass in the field which blooms today and is to be burned tomorrow in an oven, how much more will he clothe you? What little faith you have! Do not worry and say: What are we going to eat? What are we going to drink? Or: what shall we wear? The pagans busy themselves with such things; but your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. Set your heart first on the kingdom and justice of God and all these things will also be given to you. Do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own».

The message

Let us be wise when we take some important decisions. The world gives us lot of pleasure, still if we are wise, we will choose the source of this creation, God, the creator. By choosing God, we have all that God has and gives to us. Why to waste our time in deciding on the food or the life. Life is more important than the food which nourishes the life, isn’t it?

Then why to worry about the food and the cloths for tomorrow? When we have the eternity with us and why to look up on the clock for the time? In God we have everything. Let us not relegate our existence into mere material needs, car we are the children of God and let us live this truth in its perfection.
