Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

(Mt 15, 21-28)

Jésus s'était retiré vers la région de Tyr et de Sidon.
Voici qu'une Cananéenne, venue de ces territoires, criait : « Aie pitié de moi, Seigneur, fils de David ! Ma fille est tourmentée par un démon. »
Mais il ne lui répondit rien. Les disciples s'approchèrent pour lui demander : « Donne-lui satisfaction, car elle nous poursuit de ses cris ! »
Jésus répondit : « Je n'ai été envoyé qu'aux brebis perdues d'Israël. »
Mais elle vint se prosterner devant lui : « Seigneur, viens à mon secours ! »
Il répondit : « Il n'est pas bien de prendre le pain des enfants pour le donner aux petits chiens. — C'est vrai, Seigneur, reprit-elle ; mais justement, les petits chiens mangent les miettes qui tombent de la table de leurs maîtres. »
Jésus répondit : « Femme, ta foi est grande, que tout se fasse pour toi comme tu le veux ! » Et, à l'heure même, sa fille fut guérie.

Homélie

Notre Dieu est pour tous. Tous ceux et celles qui écoute sa Parole et mette la en pratique seront son peuple. C’est par nos actes de charité que les autres découvriront que nous sommes les enfants de Dieu.

Pourtant la réponse du Seigneur de l’univers à une femme cananéenne qui demande une faveur, semble-t-il en peu choquante : « il n’est pas bien de prendre le pain des enfants pour le donner aux petits chiens. » Le Seigneur invoque l’attitude d’un juive de cet époque envers le peuple cananéen, ‘comme un chien’. Le Seigneur n’est-il pas un homme qui pense comme un juif ordinaire ? Le dialogue cependant se termine avec une reconnaissance de sa foi par le Seigneur et une élévation de sa confiance et de cette personne, comme un modèle au peuple d’Israël : « Femme, ta foi est grande, que tout se fasse pour toi comme tu le veux. »

Voilà le message du Seigneur de ce dimanche, ‘tous ceux qui aiment sont enfants de Dieu, et Dieu demeure en eux.’ Ce Dieu n’abandonnera jamais ce peuple qui l’aime. La question qui se pose aujourd’hui, est, avons-nous cette confiance dans la providence du Seigneur, comme cette femme cananéenne ?

Une femme étrangère a reconnu dans le Seigneur ‘le messie’, « fils de David » qui était capable de répondre positivement à son appel de détresse. Elle ne s’arrêtait pas à crier, comme la veuve qui a demandé la justice au juge qui n’était pas juste, comme un homme qui a dérangé son ami sans arrêt pendant que son ami était déjà au lit afin qu’il puisse nourrir son invité. Même si tous les deux hommes n’étaient pas prêts à répondre positivement aux appels, à la fin ils ont répondu positivement.

Nous les chrétiens, les baptisés, qui portent le nom du Christ, entendons-nous les cris des gens dans la rue, aux hôpitaux, à la maison de retraite, à la personne qui reste seule dans leur maison? N’oublions pas à répondre à cet appel, car c’est un appel qui vient du Seigneur. Dans ce cri, mère Theresa, Abbé Pierre ont vu le Seigneur. Dans ce temps de vacances, essayons d’écouter cet appel du peuple, pour que notre vie devienne une vie remplit par le Seigneur et qu’elle nourrisse l’espérance dans ce monde.

Gospel text (Mt 15,21-28):

At that time, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. Now a Canaanite woman came from those borders and began to cry out, «Lord, Son of David, have pity on me! My daughter is tormented by a demon». But Jesus did not answer her, not even a word. So his disciples approached him and said, «Send her away: see how she is shouting after us». Then Jesus said to her, «I was sent only to the lost sheep of the nation of Israel». But the woman was already kneeling before Jesus and said, «Sir, help me!». Jesus answered, «It is not right to take the bread from the children and throw it to the little dogs». The woman replied, «It is true, Sir, but even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their master's table». Then Jesus said, «Woman, how great is your faith! Let it be as you wish». And her daughter was healed at that moment.

Homily

Our God is for everyone. All those who listen to His word and put it into practice will be His people. It is through our acts of charity that others should discover that we are the children of God. Every Christian is called to accept others as they are and welcome them in to our homes with the same honor we reserve for God, because God lives in them.

Yet the response of the Lord of the universe to a Canaanite woman who asks for a favor, does seem rather shocking: "It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs. "The Lord cites the attitude of a Jewish this time to the Canaanite people, 'like a dog'. The Lord is a man who thinks like an ordinary Jew. What is important for every human being is, not only what he thinks, rather How he acts up on his thinking. Not that everything which gets inside of us that makes us impure, rather what comes out of us.

The dialogue between Jesus and this lady, however, ends with an acknowledgment of her faith in the Lord and a rise in confidence and Jesus presents her as a role model to the people of Israel, "Woman, great is your faith that everything is done for you as you want. "

That is the message of the Lord on this Sunday, 'all who love are children of God, and God abides in them. "This God will never abandon the people who love him. The question now is, do we have that trust in the providence of the Lord as the Canaanite woman?

A foreign woman recognized in the Lord 'the messiah', "son of David" who was able to respond positively to its distress call. She did not stop screaming, like the widow who sought justice to the judge who was not just, like a man who constantly bothered his friend while his friend was already in bed so he can feed his guest, we are called to invoke the Lord without end. Although both men were not ready to respond positively to the call, in the end they responded positively.

We Christians, baptized, which bear the name of Christ, we hear people screaming in the streets, hospitals, the nursing home, the person who is left alone in their house? Do not forget to answer the call because it is a call from the Lord. In this cry, Mother Theresa, Abbé Pierre saw the Lord. In this holiday time, trying to listen to the call of the people, so that our life becomes a life filled by the Lord and it nourish hope in this world.
