Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

(Mt 18, 12-14)

En ce temps-là,
Jésus disait à ses disciples :
« Quel est votre avis ?
Si un homme possède cent brebis
et que l’une d’entre elles s’égare,
ne va-t-il pas laisser les 99 autres
dans la montagne
pour partir à la recherche de la brebis égarée ?
Et, s’il arrive à la retrouver,
amen, je vous le dis :
il se réjouit pour elle
plus que pour les 99
qui ne se sont pas égarées.
Ainsi, votre Père qui est aux cieux
ne veut pas qu’un seul de ces petits soit perdu. »

Le message

« Voici votre Dieu ! » Voici le Seigneur Dieu ! Il vient nous sauver. Le monde attende encore ce Berger, le Berger d’Israël qui va chercher les brebis perdues. Nous avons une tendance de penser que tous les chrétiens sont les brebis et Jésus est le Berger.

En vérité, Jésus nous envoie dans ce monde comme les bergers, les bergers à l’image de Jésus, le vrai Pasteur. Nous devons chercher les brebis perdus. C’est ainsi les brebis perdues ressentirons la présence de Berger par excellence.

Jésus veut partager avec nous sa joie, la joie de pouvoir retrouver de ses brebis. Si nous ne travaillons pas avec Lui, nous ne pouvons pas participer à sa joie. Que nous attende soit participative.

Gospel text (Mt 18,12-14):

Jesus said to his disciples, «What do you think of this? If someone has a hundred sheep and one of them strays, won't he leave the ninety-nine on the hillside, and go to look for the stray one? And I tell you: when he finally finds it, he is more pleased about it than about the ninety-nine that did not get lost. It is the same with your Father in heaven: there they don't want even one of these little ones to be lost».

We are waiting for the Shepherd. We think that Jesus is this Shepherd who is searching the lost sheep. But my dear brothers and sisters, the story of today’s gospel can be transformed like an action plan for our contemplative and active life, if we try to interpret the gospel with a communitarian and ecclesial language, where we all are members.

Let us put this story in a different outlook. I will propose and I think that Jesus is sending each and every one of us in to this world as the shepherds who are in search of the lost sheep. We are called to be this shepherd in the image of the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ. It is in this search of the lost sheep that Jesus wishes to share with us His joy. If we wish to participate in this joy, we have to participate in this mission of searching the lost sheep. Are we the lost sheep and ready to participate in this searching mission of Jesus?
