Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

12,1-7.

Comme la foule s’était rassemblée par milliers au point qu’on s’écrasait, Jésus, s’adressant d’abord à ses disciples, se mit à dire : « Méfiez-vous du levain des pharisiens, c’est-à-dire de leur hypocrisie.
Tout ce qui est couvert d’un voile sera dévoilé, tout ce qui est caché sera connu.
Aussi tout ce que vous aurez dit dans les ténèbres sera entendu en pleine lumière, ce que vous aurez dit à l’oreille dans le fond de la maison sera proclamé sur les toits.
Je vous le dis, à vous mes amis : Ne craignez pas ceux qui tuent le corps, et après cela ne peuvent rien faire de plus.
Je vais vous montrer qui vous devez craindre : craignez celui qui, après avoir tué, a le pouvoir d’envoyer dans la géhenne. Oui, je vous le dis : c’est celui-là que vous devez craindre.
Est-ce que l’on ne vend pas cinq moineaux pour deux sous ? Or pas un seul n’est oublié au regard de Dieu.
À plus forte raison les cheveux de votre tête sont tous comptés. Soyez sans crainte : vous valez plus qu’une multitude de moineaux.

Le message

« Soyez sans crainte : vous valez plus qu’une multitude de moineaux. » C’est dans cette certitude que nous nous adressons au Seigneur : Il prend soin de nous dans sa bonté. La craint du Seigneur, nous dit saint Augustin est ce que nous nous n’éloignions pas de l’amour de Dieu. Jésus mainte fois nous a enseigné que son Père est BON et JUSTE. La sagesse nous dira qu’il est bon que nous soyons avec Celui qui est BON. D’êtres avec Lui, c’est d’être dans sa bonté. Puisque nous sommes avec Lui, que nos bons actes rendent visible notre lien avec Lui. Qu’il est bon que nous nous appuyions sur sa bonté.

Scripture: Luke 12:1-7

1 In the meantime, when so many thousands of the multitude had gathered together that they trod upon one another, he began to say to his disciples first, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. 2 Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. 3 Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. 4 "I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5 But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear him! 6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. 7 Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.

The Message

“Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows” If there is something that the Lord wish to remove from our heart is this fear, particularly an unnecessary fear. Though the word ‘fear’ is negative, if understood in a right perceptive, it is something to be desired and promoted. Fear of evil and violence, revenge and wickedness will protect us. At the same time, when this fear is attached to a loving God, of His punishment and judgment, it is something to avoid. The only fear which is justly allowed and desire according to saint Augustin is, the fear of getting away from the love of the Father.

Since God is love, and Goodness in its fullness, it is good that we remain attached to God, so that by our union with God, we may have a share in His goodness. Saint James will exhort the readers by telling that others may know that we are Christians by our love.

The real wisdom will warn every Christian the danger of being separated from this Goodness, the unconditional love of God, which in a slow run will leads us towards the moral end. God who is eternal, shares with us His eternity, independent of our acts. However, if our acts are not coherent to this grace that the merciful God gives us, we can’t really taste the fruit of this love.
