Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Jean

(Jn 8, 1-11)

Jésus s'était rendu au mont des Oliviers ; de bon matin, il retourna au Temple. Comme tout le peuple venait à lui, il s'assit et se mit à enseigner.
Les scribes et les pharisiens lui amènent une femme qu'on avait surprise en train de commettre l'adultère. Ils la font avancer, et disent à Jésus : « Maître, cette femme a été prise en flagrant délit d'adultère. Or, dans la Loi, Moïse nous a ordonné de lapider ces femmes-là. Et toi, qu'en dis-tu ? »
Ils parlaient ainsi pour le mettre à l'épreuve, afin de pouvoir l'accuser. Mais Jésus s'était baissé et, du doigt, il traçait des traits sur le sol.
Comme on persistait à l'interroger, il se redressa et leur dit : « Celui d'entre vous qui est sans péché, qu'il soit le premier à lui jeter la pierre. »
Et il se baissa de nouveau pour tracer des traits sur le sol.
Quant à eux, sur cette réponse, ils s'en allaient l'un après l'autre, en commençant par les plus âgés. Jésus resta seul avec la femme en face de lui.

Il se redressa et lui demanda : « Femme, où sont-il donc ? Alors, personne ne t'a condamnée ? »
Elle répondit : « Personne, Seigneur. » Et Jésus lui dit : « Moi non plus, je ne te condamne pas. Va, et désormais ne pèche plus. »

L'homélie

Les lectures de ce dimanche nous orient vers l’avenir, vers une vie libérée. La loi de Moïse a libéré le peuple d’esclave et elle lui a fait un peuple de Dieu. Selon cette loi, saint Paul était un homme parfait, juste et fidèle. C’est dans cette fidélité qu’il a persécuté les chrétiens. La rencontre avec le Seigneur est venue tout changer. Il a accepté son orgueil et sa faiblesse. Il s’est mis à genoux devant le Seigneur, il a découvert une vie libre, une vie remplie de bonheur et il a renoncé à tout pour être avec le Christ.

Regardons le comportement de Jésus devant un peuple qui crie contre la victime; un silence, un grand silence mystérieux. Jésus qui est bon, donne un conseil judicieux à son peuple qui a déjà jugé cette femme: « Celui d’entre vous qui est sans péché, qu’il soit le premier à lui jeter la pierre. » Il y a un silence et un vide que Jésus va remplir de sa miséricorde et de son pardon.

Regardons le visage de cette femme, elle n’est plus la même que celle qui avait été amenée par les scribes et les pharisiens. Elle est une créature nouvelle. Une reconversion totale mérite une absolution parfaite. Le pardon est offert gratuitement à tous ceux et celles qui le demandent.

Il est souhaitable qu’une fois le pardon reçu, nous poursuivions notre vie dans le Seigneur, en suivant le commandement de l’amour et du partage. Si l’on omettait de remettre notre vie dans le bon chemin, le pire pourrait nous arriver. Eveiller, entretenir et nourrir notre vie spirituelle est important pour tout ceux et celles qui recommencent leur vie.

Aujourd’hui, je me mettrais dans la foule silencieuse qui écoute le Seigneur. Car j’ai besoin de l’écouter, et j’ai besoin de sa présence. Comme je voudrais entendre cette Parole du Seigneur, « Moi non plus, je ne te condamne pas. Va, et désormais ne pèche plus. » Seigneur, mon libérateur, vient me sauver, et je chanterai, le Seigneur a fait merveille : me voici dans la joie. Amen.

but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

Early in the morning he came again to the temple; all the people came to him, and he sat down and taught them.

The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst

they said to him, "Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery.

Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such. What do you say about her?"

This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground.

And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, "Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her."

And once more he bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground.

But when they heard it, they went away, one by one, beginning with the eldest, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him.

Jesus looked up and said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"

11

She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you; go, and do not sin again."

Homily

We are entering in the fifth Sunday of the Lent. Today’s readings is orienting us towards the future, a future filled with freedom. The God of Israel has come to liberate his people and through Moses He has given them a new law which has made this people once slave, now the people of God.

According the Law of Moses, Paul was faithful law observer and he took the pride of being one such man. It is in this fidelity to the Law of Moses that he persecuted Christians. The encounter with the Lord has changed everything. He accepts his pride and weakness. He kneels before the Lord, and he discovers a life filled with freedom and with happiness. Today he is pride in Jesus Christ and leaves everything behind to be with Christ.

Let us look little closely the gospel and we will discover Jesus and the forgiveness proposed by the Lord. We are surprised of the behavior of Jesus towards the people who cry out against the victim; a silence, a mysterious silence. Jesus, who is good, has a very good advice to people who have already tried this woman: "Whoever among you who is without sin, be the first to cast the stone. "There is a silence and emptiness that Jesus will fill it by His mercy and forgiveness.
Look at this woman's face, she is no more the same who was brought by the scribes and Pharisees. She is a new creation in the Lord. A total conversion deserves a perfect absolution by the Lord.

Once we are reconciled with the Lord, we must live our life in the Lord, following at the commandment of love and sharing. If we forget to put our lives on the right path, the worst thing may happen.

Today, I look for a place for myself in the crowd that listens to the Lord, because I need to listen to the Lord and be with the Lord. How much I long to hear from the Lord, "Me neither, I do not condemn you. Go, and sin no more. "Lord, my savior, come and save me, and I will sing throughout my life, the Lord has done wonders to me, here I am in joy. Amen.
