Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

(Mt 18, 1-5.10.12-14)

Les disciples s'approchèrent de Jésus et lui dirent : « Qui donc est le plus grand dans le Royaume des cieux ? »
Alors Jésus appela un petit enfant ; il le plaça au milieu d'eux, et il déclara : « Amen, je vous le dis : si vous ne changez pas pour devenir comme les petits enfants, vous n'entrerez point dans le Royaume des cieux. Mais celui qui se fera petit comme cet enfant, c'est celui-là qui est le plus grand dans le Royaume des cieux. Et celui qui accueillera un enfant comme celui-ci en mon nom, c'est moi qu'il accueille. Gardez-vous de mépriser un seul de ces petits, car, je vous le dis, leurs anges dans les cieux voient sans cesse la face de mon Père qui est aux cieux.

Que pensez-vous de ceci ? Si un homme possède cent brebis et que l'une d'entre elles s'égare, ne laissera-t-il pas les quatre-vingt-dix-neuf autres dans la montagne pour partir à la recherche de la brebis égarée ? Et, s'il parvient à la retrouver, amen, je vous le dis : il se réjouit pour elle plus que pour les quatre-vingt-dix-neuf qui ne se sont pas égarées. Ainsi, votre Père qui est aux cieux ne veut pas qu'un seul de ces petits soit perdu. »

Le message

Le Seigneur prend soin de son peuple. Il l’accompagne, il marche avec eux et il le guide. Il est notre berger qui vient nous chercher. Même si nous nous sommes égarés de lui, il reviendra de nous rechercher et il ne veut pas de nous perdre.

Quelle notre comportement envers ce Dieu qui vient à nous rencontre ? Nous devons avoir un comportement ceux des enfants qui écoutent les parents sans aucune conditions. Faisons confiance au Seigneur comme les enfants et nous pouvons reconnaitre ce Dieu qui nous aime.

Gospel text (Mt 18,1-5.10.12-14):

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked him, «Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?». Then Jesus called a little child, set the child in the midst of the disciples, and said, «I assure you that unless you change and become like little children, you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever becomes lowly like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven, and whoever receives such a child in my name receives me. See that you do not despise any of these little ones, for I tell you: their angels in heaven continually see the face of my heavenly Father. What do you think of this? If someone has a hundred sheep and one of them strays, won’t he leave the ninety-nine on the hillside, and go to look for the stray one? And I tell you: when he finally finds it, he is more pleased about it than about the ninety-nine that did not get lost. It is the same with your Father in heaven: there they don't want even one of these little ones to be lost».

The message

We are much worried about the greatest in the Kingdom of God, where as God is worried about our happiness and joy here on this earth. Jesus is reminding us the love of the Father and if we posse the behavior of a child, we will be able to taste this unconditional love of the Father.

A happy man is the one who welcomes every one and receives all with a great joy. It is in this unconditional acceptance of others that we will be able to realize the will of the Father and establish his Kingdom on this earth.

A child like confidence in the providence of the Father will help us to discover the presence of God on this earth and will assure us a place in the Kingdom of God. Only a humble heart can see the greatness in others and will appreciate the wonders of God.
