Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

Parmi ses disciples,

le Seigneur en désigna encore soixante-douze, et il les envoya deux par deux devant lui dans toutes les villes et localités où lui-même devait aller.

Il leur dit : « La moisson est abondante, mais les ouvriers sont peu nombreux. Priez donc le maître de la moisson d'envoyer des ouvriers pour sa moisson.

Allez ! Je vous envoie comme des agneaux au milieu des loups.

N'emportez ni argent, ni sac, ni sandales, et ne vous attardez pas en salutations sur la route.

Dans toute maison où vous entrerez, dites d'abord : 'Paix à cette maison.'

S'il y a là un ami de la paix, votre paix ira reposer sur lui ; sinon, elle reviendra sur vous.

Restez dans cette maison, mangeant et buvant ce que l'on vous servira ; car le travailleur mérite son salaire. Ne passez pas de maison en maison.

Dans toute ville où vous entrerez et où vous serez accueillis, mangez ce qu'on vous offrira.

Là, guérissez les malades, et dites aux habitants : 'Le règne de Dieu est tout proche de vous.' »

Le message

Le Seigneur envoie ses disciples annoncer l’arrivée du règne de Dieu et proclamer la paix aux hommes. Il leur demande de prier : prier le maître de la moisson d’ envoyer des ouvriers pour sa moisson. De Jésus ils ont reçu le Père et avec Jésus, ils participeront à la mission du Père.

Jésus savait bien que la mission serait difficile, qu’il y aurait des hommes qui rejetteraient cette bonne nouvelle. C’est pourquoi le Seigneur leur demande de prier, unis avec le Père en prière. Dans la prière, comme saint Paul nous ne serons jamais découragés. En ce jour de la fête de saint Luc, vivons dans la prière et nous vivrons en paix.

La prière du missel

Dieu, qui as choisi saint Luc pour révéler, par sa parole et ses écrits, le mystère de ton amour envers les pauvres, accorde à ceux qui se réclament de ton nom d’être un seul cœur et une seule âme, et, à tous les peuples du monde, la grâce de voir ton salut.

1 After this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to come.

2 And he said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.

3 Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.

4 Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and salute no one on the road.

5 Whatever house you enter, first say, `Peace be to this house!'

6 And if a son of peace is there, your peace shall rest upon him; but if not, it shall return to you.

7 And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages; do not go from house to house.

8 Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you;

9 heal the sick in it and say to them, `The kingdom of God has come near to you.'

The message

The church is celebrating the feast of Saint Luke, a doctor by profession and got converted, followed Jesus closely. His faithfulness to the Word of God made him to write the third gospel and the Acts of the Apostles.

All the baptized are called to be faithful to this word of God. If we wish to be faithful to the word of God, we have to pray to the Father. It is in prayer that we can get the force to be faithful to Him.

The disciples were well aware that they were doing the mission of the Father entrusted to them by Jesus. Are we faithful to this mission of the Father in our daily life? Let’s pray to the Father to send us the laborers to work in the kingdom of God.

The Prayer

The story of Saint Paul and Saint Luke and thier suffering in the apostolic life is the reality to many of the good missionaries today. Thier love for the Father reveled in Jesus made them to dedicate their entire life for the mission of Jesus. Give us the same love and thirst for your mission. Help us to be faithful to this mission and teach us to pray.
