Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

Jésus, voyant la foule autour de lui, donna l'ordre de partir vers l'autre rive du lac.
Un scribe s'approcha et lui dit : « Maître, je te suivrai partout où tu iras. »
Mais Jésus lui déclara : « Les renards ont des terriers, les oiseaux du ciel ont des nids ; mais le Fils de l'homme n'a pas d'endroit où reposer sa tête. »
Un autre de ses disciples lui dit : « Seigneur, permets-moi d'aller d'abord enterrer mon père. »
Jésus lui dit : « Suis-moi, et laisse les morts enterrer leurs morts. »

Le message

Il y en a beaucoup parmi nous qui aimerons suivre un grand maître et devenir ses disciples. Les maîtres du monde attirent tellement du peuple pour se glorifier.

Jésus n’appartient pas à ces genres de maître. Il est différent et exigeant. Pour devenir ses disciples nous devons prendre notre croix, et le suivre. Puisque notre maître n’a pas d’endroit où reposer sa tête, nous devons nous nier, nous détacher de tout attachement matériel. Nous devons adopter une vie qui dépende entièrement au Seigneur. Ce jour là, nous deviendrons ses disciples.

Gospel text (Mt 8,18-22):

When Jesus saw the crowd press around him, Jesus gave orders to cross to the other shore. A teacher of the Law approached him and said, «Master, I will follow you wherever you go». Jesus said to him, «Foxes have holes and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head». Another disciple said to him, «Lord, let me go and bury my father first». But Jesus answered him, «Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead».

The message

The vocation is a gift from God and all cannot become the disciples of Jesus, because it is not very easy. To become His disciples, we have to take up our daily crosses, deny our personal interest and egoism and be able to adopt a life which depend fully in the providence of the Lord.

Since our master doesn’t have a place to lay his head, He is ready to stay anywhere. His openness is not only to the poor and also to rich. Only the day we are ready to accept everyone as they are, can we become His disciples.

To become His disciples, He and His mission should be our priority. Leaving everything in the hand of Lord and taking His mission as our own is the essential quality of His disciple. Are we ready to become His disciple?
