Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

(Mt 23, 23-26)

Jésus disait : « Malheureux êtes-vous, scribes et pharisiens hypocrites, parce que vous payez la dîme sur la menthe, le fenouil et le cumin, mais vous avez négligé ce qu'il y a de plus grave dans la Loi : la justice, la miséricorde et la fidélité. Voilà ce qu'il fallait pratiquer sans négliger le reste.
Guides aveugles ! Vous enlevez le moucheron avec un filtre, et vous avalez le chameau !

Malheureux êtes-vous, scribes et pharisiens hypocrites, parce que vous purifiez l'extérieur de la coupe et de l'assiette, mais l'intérieur est rempli de cupidité et d'intempérance !
Pharisien aveugle, purifie d'abord l'intérieur de la coupe afin que l'extérieur aussi devienne pur. »

Le message

Le Seigneur continue à enseigner sans arrêt. Son discours est direct et précis ; « vous avez négligé ce qu'il y a de plus grave dans la Loi : la justice, la miséricorde et la fidélité. »

Si notre vie n’est pas fondée sur le roc de l’amour, la justice, la miséricorde et la fidélité ne peuvent pas trouver une place dans notre comportement par lesquelles l’homme peut découvrir que nous sommes les chrétiens.

Habituellement l’homme porte beaucoup d’attention sur l’action qui est visible, mais ce qui est important dans la vie quotidienne est la contemplation sur la Parole de Dieu qui fait naître en nous un esprit nouveau qui nous pousse en action. Cette action rendra visible l’esprit de Dieu qui est invisible aux autres.

Le conseil du Seigneur du jour est « Pharisien aveugle, purifie d'abord l'intérieur de la coupe afin que l'extérieur aussi devienne pur. »

Gospel text (Mt 23,23-26):

Jesus said, «Woe to you, teachers of the Law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You do not forget the mint, anise and cumin seeds when you pay the tenth of everything, but then you forget what is most fundamental in the Law: justice, mercy and faith. These you must practice, without neglecting the others. Blind guides! You strain out a mosquito, but swallow a camel. Woe to you, teachers of the Law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You fill the plate and the cup with theft and violence, and then pronounce a blessing over them. Blind Pharisee! Purify the inside first, then the outside too will be purified».

The message

Today the church is celebrating the feast of Saint Monica, the symbol of prayer and perseverance, the mother of a great saint Agustin. In this world where many false leaders get flourished, she remains a sign of God’s presence and hope to the humanity.

God looks at the heart of people and the exterior is not of such value in comparisons with that of the interior of the person. Saint Paul always believed that if the heart of the person lives in Christ, his action will be automatically good. No good tree can give a bad fruit.

People often get mistaken by seeing the exterior life of an individual, where us the interior of the person and his source of life which is invisible and inaccessible to the other, will tell us the truth of the person.

How do we look at every one we meet while building our relationship and are we not very often get misled by the exterior life of an individual? Are we not very busy with our presentations and with our personal images? Let us head to the counsel of Jesus: “Blind Pharisee! Purify the inside first, and then the outside too will be purified».
