Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

Au cours du repas chez un chef des pharisiens, en entendant parler Jésus, un des convives lui dit : « Heureux celui qui participera au repas dans le royaume de Dieu ! » Jésus lui dit : « Un homme donnait un grand dîner, et il avait invité beaucoup de monde. À l'heure du dîner, il envoya son serviteur dire aux invités : 'Venez, maintenant le repas est prêt.' Mais tous se mirent à s'excuser de la même façon. Le premier lui dit : 'J'ai acheté un champ, et je suis obligé d'aller le voir ; je t'en prie, excuse-moi.' Un autre dit : 'J'ai acheté cinq paires de bœufs, et je pars les essayer ; je t'en prie, excuse-moi.' Un troisième dit : 'Je viens de me marier, et, pour cette raison, je ne peux pas venir.' À son retour, le serviteur rapporta ces paroles à son maître. Plein de colère, le maître de maison dit à son serviteur : 'Dépêche-toi d'aller sur les places et dans les rues de la ville, et amène ici les pauvres, les estropiés, les aveugles et les boiteux.' Le serviteur revint lui dire : 'Maître, ce que tu as ordonné est fait, et il reste de la place.' Le maître dit alors au serviteur : 'Va sur les routes et dans les sentiers, et insiste pour faire entrer les gens, afin que ma maison soit remplie. Car, je vous le dis, aucun de ces hommes qui avaient été invités ne profitera de mon dîner.' »

Le message

Dieu nous invite au repas divin, et il souhaite que sa maison soit remplie d’invités. La parabole des invités remplacés par les pauvres, semble être une parabole étrangère, pourtant en réfléchissant à notre vie passée, nous pouvons reconnaitre combien d’invitations nous avons ratées dans notre vie quotidienne.

Si nous parvenons à nous ouvrir aux autres et à partager nos petits bonheurs avec ceux qui nous invitent, notre joie sera nourrie de la joie divine. Sans participer au repas du Seigneur qui est ouvert à tout le monde, nous ne pouvons pas entrer dans le Royaume de Dieu.

La prière du missel

Sois favorable à tes fidèles, Seigneur, et multiplie les dons de ta grâce : entretiens en eux la foi, l’espérance et la charité, pour qu’ils soient attentifs à garder tes commandements.

Luke 14: 15 - 24

15 When one of those who sat at table with him heard this, he said to him, "Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!"

16 But he said to him, "A man once gave a great banquet, and invited many;

17 and at the time for the banquet he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, `Come; for all is now ready.'

18 But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, `I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it; I pray you, have me excused.'

19 And another said, `I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them; I pray you, have me excused.'

20 And another said, `I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.'

21 So the servant came and reported this to his master. Then the householder in anger said to his servant, `Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and maimed and blind and lame.'

22 And the servant said, `Sir, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.'

23 And the master said to the servant, `Go out to the highways and hedges, and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled.

24 For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet.'"

The message

Lord is inviting all of us for a banquet and many of us don’t realize this invitation. Since we are very much occupied with little things around us, we are not able to see great things out side of us.

Even though the invitation is open to all, if we are not humble and fail to see great things in others, we will never appreciate the wonderful things proposed by other to us.

Jesus humbled himself for us and let us learn from Him to be humble and accept the invitation proposed by God through others in our daily lives.

The Prayer

How many opportunities we have lost in our daily life? You call us for a banquet and we don’t realize this invitation. We have lots of excuses and you accept us without any conditions. Give us your grace Lord and we become humble like your son. Let us recognize your invitation for the daily bread and give us the courage to respond to this invitation positively. Amen
