Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

(Lc 17, 1-6)

Jésus disait à ses disciples : « Il est inévitable qu'il arrive des scandales qui entraînent au péché, mais malheureux celui par qui ils arrivent. Si on lui attachait au cou une meule de moulin et qu'on le précipite à la mer, ce serait mieux pour lui que d'entraîner au péché un seul de ces petits.
Tenez-vous sur vos gardes ! Si ton frère a commis une faute contre toi, fais-lui de vifs reproches, et, s'il se repent, pardonne-lui. Même si sept fois par jour il commet une faute contre toi, et que sept fois de suite il revienne à toi en disant : 'Je me repens', tu lui pardonneras. »
Les Apôtres dirent au Seigneur : « Augmente en nous la foi ! » Le Seigneur répondit : « La foi, si vous en aviez gros comme une graine de moutarde, vous diriez au grand arbre que voici : 'Déracine-toi et va te planter dans la mer', et il vous obéirait. »

Le message

Jésus nous propose deux comportements pour vivre notre vie pleinement. Premièrement, que nous ne soyons pas une occasion pour les autres à la tentation. Veillons notre comportement, y compris nos paroles et nos actes, non seulement nos commissions, mais aussi nos omissions.

Le deuxième est ce qu’on accueilli nos frères et sœurs tels qu’ils sont. Reconnaissons qu’ils sont faibles. C’est dans cette reconnaissance de la faiblesse des autres, que nous serons capables de les accueillir.

Jésus nous affirme que même si notre foi soit fable, elle est capable de produire les miracles. Ce n’est pas la quantité de notre foi, mais la qualité que Dieu regarde.

Gospel text (Lc 17,1-6):

Jesus said to his disciples, «Scandals will necessarily come and cause people to fall; but woe to the one who has brought it about. It would be better for that one to be thrown into the sea with a millstone around the neck. Truly this would be better for that person than to cause one of these little ones to fall.

»Be careful. If your brother offends you, rebuke him and if he is sorry, forgive him. And if he offends you seven times in a day but says to you seven times: ‘I'm sorry’, forgive him».

The apostles said to the Lord, «Increase our faith». And the Lord said, «If you have faith even the size of a mustard seed, you may say to this tree: ‘Be uprooted and plant yourself in the sea’, and it will obey you».

The message

Today we have three messages. The first let us not be an occasion for the temptation for others. It is important to give attention, not only of our words and needs, but also our omissions in life. Particularly, when we are called to be a model for others, let us put Jesus in front of us, so that people may identify Jesus in us. Thus we may be able to avoid all the occasions which may lead others in to temptation.

The second message is, that we accept others as they are. Forgiving them, is accepting our brothers with their weakness and limitedness. It is in this acceptation that we will be able to forgive them without any condition.

The third message is on our faith. We don’t need extraordinary faith. Little faith in God is capable to do miracles in life. God doesn’t look the quantity of faith, rather the quality of our faith. Since faith is a gift of the Holy Spirit, let us allow the Holy Spirit to guide us and He will give us the faith needed for life.
