Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Marc

(Mc 1, 40-45)

En ce temps-là,
un lépreux vint auprès de Jésus ;
il le supplia et, tombant à ses genoux, lui dit :
« Si tu le veux, tu peux me purifier. »
Saisi de compassion, Jésus étendit la main,
le toucha et lui dit :
« Je le veux, sois purifié. »
À l’instant même, la lèpre le quitta
et il fut purifié.
Avec fermeté, Jésus le renvoya aussitôt
en lui disant :
« Attention, ne dis rien à personne,
mais va te montrer au prêtre,
et donne pour ta purification
ce que Moïse a prescrit dans la Loi :
cela sera pour les gens un témoignage. »

Une fois parti,
cet homme se mit à proclamer et à répandre la nouvelle,
de sorte que Jésus ne pouvait plus entrer ouvertement dans une ville,
mais restait à l’écart, dans des endroits déserts.
De partout cependant on venait à lui.

Le message

En touchant le lépreux Jésus nous explique la théologie de l’Incarnation : Dieu participe à notre humanité pour que cette humanité soit purifiée et qu’elle soit élevée vers la divinité.

Saint Paul nous invite à découvrir ce Dieu, un Dieu de miséricorde. Ne fermons pas notre cœur, mais écoutons la voix du Seigneur. C’est un appel communautaire et nous sommes appelés à vivre en communauté, une communauté croyante. Jésus lui renvoie vers sa communauté et qu’il y vive avec les autres.Vivons-nous en communauté?

Gospel text (Mc 1,40-45):

A leper came to Jesus and begged Him, «If you so will, you can make me clean». Moved with pity, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, «I will; be clean». The leprosy left the man at once and he was made clean. As Jesus sent the man away, he sternly warned him, «Don't tell anyone about this, but go and show yourself to the priest and for the cleansing bring the offering ordered by Moses; in this way you will make your declaration».

However, as soon as the man went out, he began spreading the news everywhere, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter any town. But even though he stayed in the rural areas, people came to him from everywhere.

The message

We all wish to be clean, in a sense pure, purity in all senses, spiritual, and physical. This purification radical that Jesus brings to the society by the Incarnation, helps us to know the holiness of God and His proximity.

This leper was however lucky and there were many still waiting for their turn to be healed. Many good and soft hearted people suffer and still longing for liberation and for some a little space to breath. Sufferings and isolation are the only consolation to such people. It is to them Jesus is telling, «I will; be clean». Sadly they don’t hear.

May be little silence and meditation may help us to identify this loving presence of God, very often in discrete, accompany us, without disturbing our rhythm of life. Jesus will surely will ask us to look around and see how much good people do surround us and how much are we blind to see this accompaniment.
