Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

(Lc 7, 11-17)

Jésus se rendait dans une ville appelée Naïm. Ses disciples faisaient route avec lui, ainsi qu'une grande foule.
Il arriva près de la porte de la ville au moment où l'on transportait un mort pour l'enterrer ; c'était un fils unique, et sa mère était veuve. Une foule considérable accompagnait cette femme.
En la voyant, le Seigneur fut saisi de pitié pour elle, et lui dit : « Ne pleure pas. »
Il s'avança et toucha la civière ; les porteurs s'arrêtèrent, et Jésus dit : « Jeune homme, je te l'ordonne, lève-toi. »
Alors le mort se redressa, s'assit et se mit à parler. Et Jésus le rendit à sa mère.

La crainte s'empara de tous, et ils rendaient gloire à Dieu : « Un grand prophète s'est levé parmi nous, et Dieu a visité son peuple. »
Et cette parole se répandit dans toute la Judée et dans les pays voisins.

Le message

Le Seigneur vive au présent, il se renseigne sur son environnement, il voit la misère du peuple et il y répond positivement. Voilà le comportement requis d’un père, le père responsable.

Notre foi chrétienne nous aide à connaitre la souffrance du peuple de Dieu, les biens aimés du Père. Comment un chrétien fidèle peut-il rester tranquille sans y engager ?

Saint Paul donne un bon conseil au responsable des églises. Que nous soyons fidèles à ses conseils.

Gospel text (Lc 7,11-17):

Jesus went to a town called Naim and many of his disciples went with him —a great number of people. As He reached the gate of the town, a dead man was being carried out. He was the only son of his mother and she was a widow; there followed a large crowd of townspeople. On seeing her, the Lord had pity on her and said, «Don't cry». Then He came up and touched the stretcher and the men who carried it stopped. Jesus then said, «Young man, awake, I tell you». And the dead man got up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. A holy fear came over them all and they praised God saying, «A great prophet has appeared among us; God has visited his people». This news spread out in the Jewish country and the surrounding places.

The message

Jesus remains very much connected to the reality, especially with the suffering people, even though he may be surrounded by a big group. He indentifies not only the individuals, but also their pain and suffering. We cannot forget the famous meeting of Nicodemus with Jesus under a fig tree that Nicodemus the searcher of the Truth have forgotten to identify. Jesus responds positively to the need of this poor lady.

Paul seems to propose the same kind of a behavior to the leaders of the churches. A good father, who takes care of his family well, can also take care of the spiritual need of the local church.

Jesus our master has shown us a way and let us follow him in our daily lives by giving ourselves, our energies and time to the service of our people.
