Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

(Lc 9, 28b-36)

Jésus prit avec lui Pierre, Jean et Jacques, et il alla sur la montagne pour prier. Pendant qu'il priait, son visage apparut tout autre, ses vêtements devinrent d'une blancheur éclatante. Et deux hommes s'entretenaient avec lui : c'étaient Moïse et Élie, apparus dans la gloire. Ils parlaient de son départ qui allait se réaliser à Jérusalem. Pierre et ses compagnons étaient accablés de sommeil ; mais, se réveillant, ils virent la gloire de Jésus, et les deux hommes à ses côtés. Ces derniers s'en allaient, quand Pierre dit à Jésus : « Maître, il est heureux que nous soyons ici ! Dressons donc trois tentes : une pour toi, une pour Moïse, et une pour Élie. » Il ne savait pas ce qu'il disait.
Pierre n'avait pas fini de parler, qu'une nuée survint et les couvrit de son ombre ; ils furent saisis de frayeur lorsqu'ils y pénétrèrent. Et, de la nuée, une voix se fit entendre : « Celui-ci est mon Fils, celui que j'ai choisi, écoutez-le. » Quand la voix eut retenti, on ne vit plus que Jésus seul.
Les disciples gardèrent le silence et, de ce qu'ils avaient vu, ils ne dirent rien à personne à ce moment-là.

Le message

La fête de la transfiguration nous confirme trois choses importantes : L’accomplissement des Ecritures ou l’accomplissement de la promise de Dieu, la divinité ou la confirmation de l’Envoyé du Père, et l’écoute à la Parole de Jésus est essentielle pour le salut du monde.

La fête de la transfiguration annonce non seulement la présence du Christ parmi nous, mais également elle annonce la passion et la résurrection du Seigneur. Laissons nous guider par l’Esprit Saint et que la fête de la transfiguration nous transforme.

Gospel text (Mt 17,1-9):

Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain where they were alone. Jesus' appearance was changed before them: his face shone like the sun and his clothes became bright as light. Just then Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Jesus. Peter spoke and said to Jesus, «Master, it is good that we are here. If you so wish, I will make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah».

Peter was still speaking when a bright cloud covered them in its shadow, and a voice from the cloud said, «This is my Son, the Beloved, my Chosen One. Listen to him». On hearing the voice, the disciples fell to the ground, full of fear. But Jesus came, touched them and said, «Stand up, do not be afraid». When they raised their eyes, they no longer saw anyone except Jesus. And as they came down the mountain, Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone what they had just seen, until the Son of Man be raised from the dead.

The message

Jesus chooses three of his disciples; there on the mountain He reveals His identity and His proximity to three personages important to the people of Israel. Today He affirms the fidelity of the Father in the accomplishment of the promise made to Abraham, his divinity in his humanity and the death and resurrection as the only means chosen by the Father to accomplish His promise.

The heavenly Father invites each and every one of us to listen to His son. Here listening is entering in to Jesus himself, and becoming Jesus to our brothers by our witnessing life. The Father confirms that listening to the Word of Jesus is listening to the Father himself. Jesus is our door to the Father. By listening His Words, we also can participle in his transfiguration.
