Gospel text (Mt 1,1-17):

This is the document of the origins of Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraham. Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers. Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah (their mother was Tamar), Perez was the father of Hezron, and Hezron of Aram. Aram was the father of Aminadab, Aminadab of Nahshon, Nahshon of Salmon. Salmon was the father of Boaz. His mother was Rahab. Boaz was the father of Obed. His mother was Ruth. Obed was the father of Jesse. Jesse was the father of David, the king.

David was the father of Solomon. His mother had been Uriah's wife. Solomon was the father of Rehoboam. Then came the kings: Abijah, Asaph, Jehoshaphat, Joram, Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah, Manasseh, Amon, Josiah. Josiah was the father of Jechoniah and his brothers at the time of the deportation to Babylon.

After the deportation to Babylon Jechoniah was the father of Salathiel and Salathiel of Zerubbabel. Zerubbabel was the father of Abiud, Abiud of Eliakim, and Eliakim of Azor. Azor was the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Akim, and Akim the father of Eliud. Eliud was the father of Eleazar, Eleazar of Matthan, and Matthan of Jacob. Jacob was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and from her came Jesus who is called the Christ —the Messiah. There were then fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, and fourteen generations from David to the deportation to Babylon, and fourteen generations from the deportation to Babylon to the birth of Christ.

The message

Incarnation is a great mystery that this Advent season helps us to understand and thank God for this wonderful gift. In this genealogy we discover that God is walking with us in our history. It is in this divine accompaniment that we find the reason to be happy and joyful.

In the other way, Jesus is one among us and helps us to go beyond from visible realities to invisible truth: the love of the Father and His faithfulness. His history is ours and He desires that we participate in His holiness. That we may be perfect as the heavenly Father is perfect. Shall we say yes to His call to holiness and live our life as desired by His Father?

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

(Mt 21, 28-32)

et vous n’avez pas cru à sa parole ;

Gospel text (Mt 21,28-32):

Jesus said to the chief priests and elders of the people, «What do you think of this? A man had two sons. He went to the first and said to him: ‘Son, today go and work in my vineyard’. And the son answered: ‘I don't want to’. But later he thought better of it and went. Then the father went to the second and gave him the same command. This son replied: ‘I will go, sir’, but he did not go. Which of the two did what the father wanted?». They answered, «The first». And Jesus said to them, «Truly, I say to you: the publicans and the prostitutes are ahead of you on the way to the kingdom of heaven. For John came to show you the way of goodness but you did not believe him, yet the publicans and the prostitutes did. You were witnesses of this, but you neither repented nor believed him».

The message

On this week of joy, we have two brothers, who respond to their father in a different way. This story does give us a hope in the sense that we can always go back to the essentials of life, even if we have failed or refused to obey.

Jesus seems to teach us that the Christian life and the joy of Christian faith does depend up on our personal relation to the Father and our engagement to accomplish the will of the Father. This story does remind us that we are always aware of what is expected of us and we have refused to do the will of the Father voluntarily. This voluntary omission is something serious that we have to give little attention today.

Jésus leur répliqua :
« À mon tour, je vais vous poser une question, une seule ;

Gospel text (Mt 21,23-27):

Jesus had entered the Temple and was teaching when the chief priests, the teachers of the Law and the Jewish authorities came to him and asked, «What authority have you to act like this? Who gave you authority to do all this?». Jesus answered them, «I will also ask you a question, only one. And if you give me an answer, then I will tell you by what authority I do these things. When John began to baptize, was it a work of God, or was it merely something human?». They reasoned out among themselves, «If we reply that it was a work of God, he will say: ‘Why, then, did you not believe him?’. And if we say: ‘The baptism of John was merely something human’, beware of the people: since all hold John as a prophet». So they answered Jesus, «We do not know». And Jesus said to them, «Neither will I tell you by what right I do these things».

The message

In this week of joy, let us not give much importance to the authority of Jesus; rather let us taste the Joy that the Lord gives us through His presence. When something extraordinary happens around us, the first reaction should be a sentiment of gratitude. In this gratitude, we will find the reason of our joy.

If we wish to preserve the joy that the Lord has given to us, when we are questioned unjustly, let us not be disappointed, but learn to respond to such people with a question. I assure you the question will demand a response and they will search for the response and we can save our peace of mind. Why not apply this from today onwards?

In English

We started our Advent season by meditating on watching the arrival and the signs of God’s presence amidst us. Last week we were waiting for the Lord. These themes have lead us to Christ through John the Baptist and his voice from the desert radiates in our ears. In this voice, there is a hope, a hope of the proximity of the presence of the Lord, He is already here, among us. There is a sense of anticipation, an anticipation of Joy. The child who jumped out of joy, shares his joy with us, the joy that identifies the presence of Christ in us. All that we are asked to day is, just like the internet connection, we need an identity and a password. Let us be guided by this joy, seek our identity in Jesus and ask him the password to have access to the Light and to participate in his joy. As the people of Israel welcomes the fulfillment of the promise of God, let us welcome Christ who will fulfill the same promise to us. "My soul rejoices in my God", this week is a week of joy.

"The Spirit of the Lord is in me. "By His presence Jesus says," today that Word has come true. "Now, who is Jesus for us and what relationship we have with Him and what is accomplished for us today? When John the Baptist says, "I am not a prophet," he tells us that Jesus is the prophet. The role of a prophet is to pass the massage of God to the people, to mediate, intercede for this people. Jesus is our light, we must be the reflection of that light, the light that illuminates the presence of Christ among us, a light that removes any kind of darkness, a light that brings people to our God, a light that makes reconciliation, unifies the people of God.

Jean Baptiste confirms that he is the voice of the desert. Our word must be a voice of this desert that is rooted in the word of God, which is holy, a word that listens and gives priority to others, a word of silence born from this deep divine relationship. This is not a passive silence, but very active because this word raises life, a life full of hope.

Look at the Magnification with a look of Avant which will give us guidance or direction for this week of joy. In this song of Mary, there is a joy and wonder at God's faithfulness to His promises and His faithfulness to the Alliance. It is a thanksgiving for God's work and a discovery of God's preference for the poor and small. He will not forget us. This is the raison of our joy.
What should we do? The first is humility, the second is the recognition of the presence of Christ in our midst and the third is our witness of life that will make visible the presence of God among humanity. I wish you all a happy march towards Jesus. Amen

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

(Mt 17, 10-13)

Jésus leur répondit :
« Élie va venir
pour remettre toute chose à sa place.
Mais, je vous le déclare :
Élie est déjà venu ;

In English

Gospel text (Mt 17,10-13):

As they were coming down the mountainside, the disciples then asked Jesus, «Why do the teachers of the Law say that Elijah must come first?». And Jesus answered, «So it is: first comes Elijah to set everything as it has to be. But I tell you, Elijah has already come and they did not recognize him, but treated him as they pleased. And they will also make the Son of Man suffer». Then the disciples understood that Jesus was referring to John the Baptist.

The message

Jesus is not very much interested in answering the question directly, but takes us little further towards the finality of this question: the need to identify the prophet and urgency to respond to God positively. We are waiting to welcome Jesus and we need the capacity to identify Him. It is in this incapacity to identity Jesus that the people of God failed to accept Him.

In our good, faithful and holy waiting, if we are not able to identify the presence of Jesus in our brothers and sisters, all of our waiting and preparation will end in a disappointed note, because in our ignorance, we will refuse the entry of Jesus in our hearts.

Let us pray to the mother of Jesus to help us to identity Him and respond Him positively.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

(Mt 11, 16-19)

In English

Jesus spoke to the crowds: «Now, to what can I compare the people of this day? They are like children sitting in the marketplace, about whom their companions complain: ‘We played the flute for you but you would not dance. We sang a funeral-song but you would not cry!’. For John came fasting and people said: ‘He is possessed’. Then the Son of Man came, he ate and drank, and people said: ‘Look at this man! A glutton and drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’. Yet the outcome will prove Wisdom to be right».

The message

Advent is the time of waiting. It is important to verify the way we are waiting for the Lord. If we look all that is not happening around us, looking all that are not functioning well, then we will be very often disappointed. It is this behavior that has led the people of see in Jesus the glutton and drunkard and John as possessed. Let us learn to look at the world as God looks at and learn to appreciate the good things exist in this world. Thus our waiting will have a meaning in our preparation.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

(Mt 11, 11-15)

personne ne s’est levé de plus grand que Jean le Baptiste ;

Gospel text (Mt 11,11-15):

Jesus said to the crowds, «No one greater than John the Baptist has come forward among the sons of women, and yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven is something to be conquered and the unyielding seize it. Up to the time of John, there was only prophesy: all the prophets and the Law; and if you believe me, John is this Elijah, whose coming was predicted. Let anyone with ears listen!».

The message

Jesus is calling each and every one of us today to represent John Baptist, to announce of the Kingdom of God and to identify the presence of Messiah amidst us. While waiting for the second coming of the Lord, we are called to prepare His coming in the manner John has done: establish an ambiance of reconciliation and conversion, unifying all the people of God, pagan and there should be no outsiders in the Christian community.

Jesus is reminding us of our contemporary world, a world filled with violence, violence in act and behavior, in our thinking and dreaming, in our sports and games, etc. It is in this world God prepared John to announce the Messiah, it is in this same world and Jesus came to save us, and it is in this same world that we are called to be send.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

(Mt 11, 28-30)

Gospel text (Mt 11,28-30):

Jesus said, «Come to me, all you who work hard and who carry heavy burdens and I will refresh you. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble of heart; and you will find rest. For my yoke is good and my burden is light».

The message

We are waiting for the Lord and the Lord is asking us to go back to Him. Why to spend time in waiting; rather go to Him, for He is waiting for us. Jesus knows that the life here is different and with Him we will find rest.

It is only in Jesus that our yoke will be good and the burden will be light. It is precisely because that Jesus is asking us to get attached to Him, like a branch with attaches itself with vine.

Very often we forget that God has entrusted a mission to us through our baptism and to accomplish this mission we need Him. Only if we are aware of this truth, we will be able to get attached with Him and in Him we will find the rest.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

(Mt 18, 12-14)

Gospel text (Mt 18,12-14):

Jesus said to his disciples, «What do you think of this? If someone has a hundred sheep and one of them strays, won't he leave the ninety-nine on the hillside, and go to look for the stray one? And I tell you: when he finally finds it, he is more pleased about it than about the ninety-nine that did not get lost. It is the same with your Father in heaven: there they don't want even one of these little ones to be lost».

In English

We are waiting for the Shepherd. We think that Jesus is this Shepherd who is searching the lost sheep. But my dear brothers and sisters, the story of today’s gospel can be transformed like an action plan for our contemplative and active life, if we try to interpret the gospel with a communitarian and ecclesial language, where we all are members.

Let us put this story in a different outlook. I will propose and I think that Jesus is sending each and every one of us in to this world as the shepherds who are in search of the lost sheep. We are called to be this shepherd in the image of the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ. It is in this search of the lost sheep that Jesus wishes to share with us His joy. If we wish to participate in this joy, we have to participate in this mission of searching the lost sheep. Are we the lost sheep and ready to participate in this searching mission of Jesus?

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

(Lc 1, 26-38)

Gospel text (Lc 1,26-38):

In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth. He was sent to a young virgin who was betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the family of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. The angel came to her and said, «Rejoice, full of grace, the Lord is with you». Mary was troubled at these words, wondering what this greeting could mean.

But the angel said, «Do not fear, Mary, for God has looked kindly on you. You shall conceive and bear a son and you shall call him Jesus. He will be great and shall rightly be called Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the kingdom of David, his ancestor; he will rule over the people of Jacob forever and his reign shall have no end». Then Mary said to the angel, «How can this be if I am a virgin?». And the angel said to her, «The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore, the holy child to be born shall be called Son of God. Even your relative Elizabeth is expecting a son in her old age, although she was unable to have a child, and she is now in her sixth month. With God nothing is impossible». Then Mary said, «I am the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done to me as you have said». And the angel left her.

The message

On this solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we desire to be like her, in her purity and docility to the word of God. We need the courage to say, “I am the hand made of the Lord, let it be done to me as you have said.”

We have decided to mediate on the theme of waiting for the Lord. Mary was waiting for this savior, without knowing that it is she who is chosen by the Lord to carry His Son. It is not enough to wait, but we have to wait like the wise virgins who were fully prepared. Otherwise, even if the Lord comes and knocks at our door, we may not open the door.
