Évangile de Jésus Christ

Luc 10,25-37.

Jésus lui dit : « Tu as bien répondu. Fais ainsi et tu auras la vie. »

Gospel text (Lc 10,25-37):

A teacher of the Law came and began putting Jesus to the test. And he said, «Master, what shall I do to receive eternal life?». Jesus replied, «What is written in the Scripture? How do you understand it?». The man answered, «It is written: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength and with all your mind. And you shall love your neighbor as yourself». Jesus replied, «What a good answer! Do this and you shall live».

The man wanted to keep up appearances, so he replied, «Who is my neighbor?». Jesus then said, «There was a man going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him, beat him and went off leaving him half-dead. It happened that a priest was going along that road and saw the man, but passed by on the other side. Likewise a Levite saw the man and passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, too, was going that way, and when he came upon the man, he was moved with compassion. He went over to him and treated his wounds with oil and wine and wrapped them with bandages. Then he put him on his own mount and brought him to an inn where he took care of him. The next day he had to set off, but he gave two silver coins to the innkeeper and told him: ‘Take care of him and whatever you spend on him, I will repay when I come back’». Jesus then asked, «Which of these three, do you think, made himself neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?». The teacher of the Law answered, «The one who had mercy on him». And Jesus said, «Go then and do the same».

The message

Let us not put the Lord in temptation by putting lots of question. All that is needed is to look around us, particularly the people who suffer and respond to them positively. Once we have done our duties as Christians, then we can ask the question.

The story of Good Samaritan does help us to understand the exigencies of the Lord. We are living in a busy world where we have no time. This story is asking us to make little pause in our lives. Like Moses, it is asking us to go closer to the person. It is in this closeness and proximity we will discover the hurts and pains of others. It is in this truth, we will grow rich in humanity and charity.

We have the choice of being a by passer or enter in good relationship. I think it is better for us and also for the other, to enter into a health relationship. Why to wait for the opportunity? It is enough to look around to see the needy.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

(Mt 21, 33-43)

Amen.

Gospel text (Mt 21,33-43):

Jesus said to the chief priests and elders of the people, «Listen to another example: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a fence around it, dug a hole for the winepress, built a watchtower, leased the vineyard to tenants and then went to a distant country. When harvest time came, the landowner sent his servants to the tenants to collect his share of the harvest. But the tenants seized his servants, beat one, killed another and stoned another. Again the owner sent more servants, but they were treated in the same way. Finally, he sent his son, thinking: ‘They will respect my son’.

»But when the tenants saw the son, they thought: ‘This is the one who is to inherit the vineyard. Let us kill him and his inheritance will be ours’. So they seized him, threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. Now, what will the owner of the vineyard do with the tenants when he comes?». They said to him, «He will bring those evil to an evil end, and lease the vineyard to others who will pay him in due time». And Jesus replied, «Have you never read what the Scriptures say? The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This was the Lord's doing; and we marvel at it. Therefore I say to you: the kingdom of heaven will be taken from you and given to a people who will yield a harvest».

Homily

«He will bring those evil to an evil end, and lease the vineyard to others who will pay him in due time» "After reading the text of the Gospel, we have a feeling of fear because of our infidelity to the call to love and forgiveness. God, will He treat us like this? What is the message of these readings? Is the purpose to scare us, frighten us, to destroy us? Is it not a warning, like an alarm clock which awakes us of spiritual sleeping?
Let us consider this parable seriously. Let's look at the vineyard that the Lord has entrusted to us and behavior of tenants. Who are these vineyards and tenants? What is the fruit that God expects us from the vineyard and also from the tenants?
I would say we the peptized are the tenants to whom God has entrusted his vineyard, the world, the whole universe and everything that exists. Like the servants who went to see the tenants are the saints and holy people God send to this earth to remind us of our duties and relation with God. The term 'fruit' what God expects of those to whom he entrusted the people he loves, is that they make the fruit of obedience to Him, do exactly what God is asking us to do. For us, it is to comply with the requirements of the covenant renewed by Christ in the Sermon on the Mount and expressed on the Cross.
"The same Lord continues to entrust us with his vineyard. This vine is a strong symbol that represents many realities. We are the managers of this vineyard. One day we will have to give account. The problem is that we are all faced with the temptation of the owner, and we let ourselves be surprised to speak and act as if everything came from us.

My friends, God has given us a mission at our baptism. During this journey, he gave us our parents, our brothers and sisters. For me, this mission in France, for you may your wife or husband or children or friends. And now he asks us fruit, as parents, as a mother and a father, a wife and a husband, a brother and sister, or as a friend .
Since we are the body of Christ, whenever the body is in pain, we cannot ignore it. Poverty and suffering in the family, in society, ignorance of the truth are of great concern to all Christians. All people who dedicate their lives for others, meet this baptismal vocation, the mission God has entrusted to them. As master, the Lord protects us, keeps us, He will never give up. Let us trust in the teacher and He will help us to give the fruit in due time. Let us become aware of what the Lord tells us this today, this week and discern rightly the will of the Father. Let us abandon ourselves to His grace, so that we can fulfill His will and plans. May the Lord bless us. Amen.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

(Lc 10, 17-24)

Gospel text (Lc 10,17-24):

The seventy-two disciples returned full of joy. They said, «Lord, even the demons obeyed us when we called on your name». Then Jesus replied, «I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. You see, I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the Enemy, so that nothing will harm you. Nevertheless, don't rejoice because the evil spirits submit to you; rejoice rather that your names are written in heaven».

At that time Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit and said, «I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and made them known to the little ones. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. I have been given all things by my Father, so that no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and he to whom the Son chooses to reveal him».

Then Jesus turned to his disciples and said to them privately, «Fortunate are you to see what you see, for I tell you that many prophets and kings would have liked to see what you see but did not, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it».

The message

Today the Franciscans are celebrating their feast day and let us remember them in our prayers. Through these saints God reveals His love for the humanity. Let us join with Jesus in glorifying the Father for His revelation to the small ones.

Jesus by the incarnation has already made us in a dignified manner once again as the children. Let us be aware of this truth and learn to live up to this vocation. If we fail to realize this identity, we will be like others who have failed to give attention to the son of God, Jesus Christ and will never be able to understand the wonder God is working through us.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

(Lc 10, 13-16)

En parlant aux soixante-douze disciples Jésus disait :
« Malheureuse es-tu, Corazine !

Gospel text (Lc 10,13-16):

Jesus said, «Alas for you Chorazin! Alas for you Bethsaida! So many miracles have been worked in you! If the same miracles had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would already be sitting in ashes and wearing the sackcloth of repentance. Surely for Tyre and Sidon it will be better than for you on the Judgment Day. And what of you, city of Capernaum? Will you be lifted up to heaven? You will be thrown down to the place of the dead. Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me; and he who rejects me, rejects the one who sent me».

The message

We have many jobs in our society and there may be many that we might have met in our lives. As missionaries, we have to be aware that the pain and suffering of Job, is not less important of ours and we are send by God to such people.

It is in this spirit of being sent that we will be able to accept the rejection of the Light by the people. Why to break the head when things doesn’t go on the right path. It is easy to put everything in the hand of the Lord.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

(Mt 18, 1-5.10)

Gospel text (Lc 9,57-62):

As Jesus and his disciples went on their way, a man said to him, «I will follow you wherever you go». Jesus said to him, «Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head». To another Jesus said, «Follow me». But he answered, «Let me go back now, for first I want to bury my father». And Jesus said to him, «Let the dead bury their dead; as for you, leave them and proclaim the kingdom of God». Another said to him, «I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say goodbye to my family». And Jesus said to him, «Whoever has put his hand to the plow and looks back is not fit for the kingdom of God».

The message

We all wish to follow Jesus. The following Jesus is a radical engagement, a radical abandoning ourselves to the Lord, which demands to renounce anything other than spiritual. It is in this union with the Father that our humanity should find it source and the finality of our engagement is this same union with God.

How can it possible to follow Jesus radically, still holding the earthly obligations and duties. It is not in the divine obedience that our human engagement finds its source and energy? Is it possible to remain connected with God, by remaining disconnected with the humanity? It is from God that we are sent to the humanity, not the otherwise.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

(Lc 9, 51-56)

Gospel text (Lc 9,51-56):

As the time drew near when Jesus would be taken up to heaven, He made up his mind to go to Jerusalem. He had sent ahead of him some messengers who entered a Samaritan village to prepare a lodging for him. But the people would not receive him because He was on his way to Jerusalem. Seeing this, James and John, his disciples said, «Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to reduce them to ashes?». Jesus turned and rebuked them, and they went on to another village.

The message

Human being desires always good and anything unpleasant he chooses to refuse. If he has the power and energy, he wishes that anything against or contrary to his take, should disappear. James and John do represent such people. But Jesus rebukes them and gently ignores the opposition.

It is important in our lives to ignore the unjust opposition and look for the alternative ways. It is here we can say that we have grown up and able to face any difficult situation. There are many at times that these oppositions have become a moment of grace.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Jean

(Jn 1, 47-51)

Nathanaël lui demande : « Comment me connais-tu ?

Gospel text (Jn 1,47-51):

When Jesus saw Nathanael coming, He said of him, «Here comes an Israelite, a true one; there is nothing false in him». Nathanael asked him, «How do you know me?». And Jesus said to him, «Before Philip called you, you were under the fig tree and I saw you». Nathanael answered, «Master, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!». But Jesus replied, «You believe because I said: ‘I saw you under the fig tree’. But you will see greater things than that. Truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man».

The message

Nathanael helps us to create a situation where Jesus explains to us the presence of angels in our lives. Jesus reminded us already that the guardian angels do communicate with the Father and they become a means accessible to have a deep relationship with the Father.

On this feast of archangels, let us try to listen to them, because they carry the message of the Lord. Every moment there was an intervention of the angel of the Lord, there was a great moment to come. Let us try to listen to them and we can identity such moments that God proposes to us.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

(Mt 21, 28-32)

Gospel text (Mt 20,28-32):

Jesus went on to say to the chief priests and the elders of the people, «What do you think of this? A man had two sons. He went to the first and said to him: ‘Son, today go and work in my vineyard’. And the son answered: ‘I don't want to’. But later he thought better of it and went. Then the father went to the second and gave him the same command. This son replied: ‘I will go, sir’, but he did not go.

»Which of the two did what the father wanted?». They answered, «The first». And Jesus said to them, «Truly, I say to you: the publicans and the prostitutes are ahead of you on the way to the kingdom of heaven. For John came to show you the way of goodness but you did not believe him, yet the publicans and the prostitutes did. You were witnesses of this, but you neither repented nor believed him».

Homily

How can we understand the behavior of God? The last Sunday, the prophet Isaiah told us that our God does not think like men, He does not act like us. He looks at our engagement and how we live our Christian life. The Gospel of the day presents a history of the same kind. God pays attention, not our words, but our concrete actions. As saint Jean write, we have love not by discourse and words, but in truth.

The key word of the day is 'conversion'. God invites us to repent of our wickedness, our bad habits and our bad behavior and particularly our refusal to the forgiveness of God. We no longer have the right to live our lives in the past. Looking at our present life, see and assure ourselves, if we do the will of God. In the Gospel we have two models of behavior: first, the abrupt and somewhat insolent refusal of the first son, who then changes his mind and on the other hand, immediate acceptance and respect of the second son who in fact, does not obey.
What is God's will for us today? What plan God has given us? Elders are invited to be models for others. The mother is called to show to her children the love of a mother. The couple is asked to make visible to the world the invisible love and the unity of the Trinity. Children are invited to listen to the voices of parents and elders. It is in this listening that they can grow as children of God. It is here we will help the society where we live, in the transformation of the world and the establishment of the Kingdom of God.

Why wait. It is never late to convert and rely on the Lord's faithfulness, because, our God is a God of patience, He expects us, as a father who wait for the return of the lost child. The patience of the Lord helps us to rekindle our hope. The gospel calls us not only to be converted, also to respond positively to the mission of the Lord.

We may reduce a simple message of this gospel. Conversion in truth, is a process of re-establishing a new covenant, a divine alliance that of Jesus on the Cross where we discover the unconditional love, forgiveness without limit, openness to God's mercy. Let us take the message of this Sunday as the Lord's invitation as a personal and wholesome appeal. "Change your hearts, believe the Good News! Change your life; believe that God loves you, Amen.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

(Lc 9, 43b-45)

Gospel text (Lc 9,43b-45):

While all were amazed at everything Jesus did, He said to his disciples, «Listen and remember what I tell you now: The Son of Man will be delivered into human hands». But the disciples didn't understand this saying; something prevented them from grasping what He meant, and they were afraid to ask him about it.

The message

Jesus is communicating something very important not only of the present life, but also for the future of the church, but His disciples are not capable of understanding the importance of this event. If analyze the cause of this behavior, we understand that they were living in admiration of the events of the past and give less importance to the communication of Jesus.

If we look deeply and analyze the life of Jesus, we could understand that He was living always in the present and was aware of all that was happening around. It is in this presence of mind, He could respond positively to the need of the people. Let us learn from His this presence of mind, which will help us not only individually, but also, will be of great service for the society.
