Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Jean

(Jn 14, 6-14)

À l'heure où Jésus passait de ce monde à son Père, il disait à ses disciples : « Moi, je suis le Chemin, la Vérité et la Vie ; personne ne va vers le Père sans passer par moi. Puisque vous me connaissez, vous connaîtrez aussi mon Père. Dès maintenant vous le connaissez, et vous l'avez vu. »

Philippe lui dit : « Seigneur, montre-nous le Père ; cela nous suffit. »

Jésus lui répond : « Il y a si longtemps que je suis avec vous, et tu ne me connais pas, Philippe ! Celui qui m'a vu a vu le Père. Comment peux-tu dire : 'Montre-nous le Père' ? Tu ne crois donc pas que je suis dans le Père et que le Père est en moi ! Les paroles que je vous dis, je ne les dis pas de moi-même ; mais c'est le Père qui demeure en moi, et qui accomplit ses propres œuvres. Croyez ce que je vous dis : je suis dans le Père, et le Père est en moi ; si vous ne croyez pas ma parole, croyez au moins à cause des œuvres. Amen, amen, je vous le dis : celui qui croit en moi accomplira les mêmes œuvres que moi. Il en accomplira même de plus grandes, puisque je pars vers le Père.

Tout ce que vous demanderez en invoquant mon nom, je le ferai, afin que le Père soit glorifié dans le Fils. Si vous me demandez quelque chose en invoquant mon nom, moi, je le ferai. »

Le message

Ce jour de fête, nous pensons chaleureusement aux Apôtres qui ont donné leur vie à l’annonce de l’évangile. Jésus était leur Chemin, leur Vie et Vérité. En Jésus ils ont découvert le Père qui aime, qui se donne.

Saint Thomas a demandé au Seigneur le Chemin et Saint Philipe le Père. Comme Philippe nous restons ignorants de vérité de la présence de Dieu dans notre vie quotidienne. Il nous accompagne et nous guide.

Ce mystère de la Trinité, nous le comprenons mieux aujourd’hui. Que pouvons-nous demander au Seigneur, sinon lui-même ?

Gospel text (Jn 14,6-14):

Jesus said, «I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me. If you know me, you will know the Father also; indeed you know him and you have seen him». Philip asked him, «Lord, show us the Father and that is enough». Jesus said to him, «What! I have been with you so long and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever sees me sees the Father; how can you say: ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?. All that I say to you, I do not say of myself. The Father who dwells in me is doing his own work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; at least believe it on the evidence of these works that I do. Truly, I say to you, the one who believes in me will do the same works that I do; and he will even do greater than these, for I am going to the Father. Everything you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. And everything you ask in calling upon my Name, I will do».

The message

The gospel of Saint John is very rich in theology and in particularly Christology. He takes pain to explain to us the divinity of Jesus with a simple language, which is very complicated to us to understand.

Today, Jesus is speaking of His union with the Father and after 2000 years we understand this union much better than these disciples of Jesus, in relation with the mystery of Trinity.

While celebration the feast of these apostles, we acknowledge their difficulty to understand these mysteries, as we do today. There are still quite a lot to learn from that which is revealed in Jesus Christ.

There are many such things do occur very often in our personal lives too. We find difficult to understand the truth. We need patience and the grace of God to understand the events which pass daily in our lives too, including our human and divine relationship.

(Jn 3, 31-36)

Celui qui vient d'en haut est au-dessus de tout. Celui qui est de la terre est terrestre, et il parle de façon terrestre.
Celui qui vient du ciel rend témoignage de ce qu'il a vu et entendu, et personne n'accepte son témoignage.
Mais celui qui accepte son témoignage certifie par là que Dieu dit la vérité.
En effet, celui que Dieu a envoyé dit les paroles de Dieu, car Dieu lui donne l'Esprit sans compter.
Le Père aime le Fils et a tout remis dans sa main.
Celui qui croit au Fils a la vie éternelle ; celui qui refuse de croire en lui ne verra pas la vie, mais la colère de Dieu demeure sur lui.

Le message

Ce jour de fête de saint Joseph, prions pour tous les ouvriers du monde. Le mois de mai est particulièrement dédié à la Vierge Marie. Nous pouvons lui demande de nous accompagner sur le chemin de Pâques.

Gospel text (Jn 3,31-36): «He who comes from above is above all; he who comes from the earth belongs to the earth and his words, too, are earthly. The One who comes from heaven speaks of the things he has seen and heard; he bears witness to this but no one accepts his testimony. Whoever does receive his testimony acknowledges the truthfulness of God. The one sent by God speaks God's words and gives the Spirit without measure. For the Father loves the Son and has entrusted everything into his hands. Whoever believes in the Son lives with eternal life, but he who will not believe in the Son will never know life and always faces the justice of God».

The message

The first may is the workers day. Let us pray for all the workers. This month is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Let us ask her to help to say ‘YES’ like her, and be faithful to this YES. Have a nice day.

(Jn 3, 16-21)

Dieu a tant aimé le monde qu'il a donné son Fils unique : ainsi tout homme qui croit en lui ne périra pas, mais il obtiendra la vie éternelle.
Car Dieu a envoyé son Fils dans le monde, non pas pour juger le monde, mais pour que, par lui, le monde soit sauvé.
Celui qui croit en lui échappe au Jugement, celui qui ne veut pas croire est déjà jugé, parce qu'il n'a pas cru au nom du Fils unique de Dieu.
Et le Jugement, le voici : quand la lumière est venue dans le monde, les hommes ont préféré les ténèbres à la lumière, parce que leurs œuvres étaient mauvaises.
En effet, tout homme qui fait le mal déteste la lumière : il ne vient pas à la lumière, de peur que ses œuvres ne lui soient reprochées ;mais celui qui agit selon la vérité vient à la lumière, afin que ses œuvres soient reconnues comme des œuvres de Dieu.

Le message

Nous sommes les enfants de la Lumière. C’est pour quoi Jésus nous demande d’être les lumières du monde. Puisque nous sommes les lumières du monde, nous devons reconnaitre l’amour que Dieu a pour ce monde et nous devons travailler pour que cet amour divin devienne une réalité et qu’elle illumine ce monde.

C’est dans cet amour divin que Dieu envoya Jésus et dans cet amour divin que nous sommes invités à être témoins. Puisque Dieu est amour, cet amour est capable de nous rendre la vie éternelle.

Gospel text (Jn 3,16-21):

Jesus said to Nicodemus, «Yes, God so loved the world that He gave his only Son that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but may have eternal life. God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world; instead, through him the world is to be saved. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned. He who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the Name of the only Son of God. This is how the Judgment is made: Light has come into the world and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. For whoever does wrong hates the light and doesn't come to the light for fear that his deeds will be shown as evil. But whoever lives according to the truth comes into the light so that it can be clearly seen that his works have been done in God».

The message

Jesus is the Light of the world. Through our baptism, we as Christians participate in His light. It is because of this participation that Jesus has called us to be the light of the world. The real light is the Love God has for this world. He has sent His only begotten Son, not to judge but to save this world. Through incarnation, death and resurrection, Jesus has revealed to us this truth. As a faithful believer, we are called to believe in this truth and spread this divine love in this world.

It is in believing in this divine truth of God’s love for the humanity in a particular way that we will find the meaning of our own existence. As Jesus, we are called to love and forgive this world, which habitually reject the light, Light of the world.

Let us not waste our precious time in measuring what we haven’t received, because there are plenty and we will be sad. Let us discover all that we have received and may not have enough time to count it. Here we will be happy and filled with gratitude. Reasonably the second seems to be the better option of life.

(Jn 3, 7-15)

Jésus disait à Nicodème :
« Ne sois pas étonné si je t'ai dit qu'il vous faut renaître.
Le vent souffle où il veut : tu entends le bruit qu'il fait, mais tu ne sais pas d'où il vient ni où il va. Il en est ainsi de tout homme qui est né du souffle de l'Esprit. »
Nicodème reprit : « Comment cela peut-il se faire ? »
Jésus lui répondit : « Toi, tu es chargé d'instruire Israël, et tu ne connais pas ces choses-là ?
Amen, amen, je te le dis : nous parlons de ce que nous savons, nous témoignons de ce que nous avons vu, et vous n'acceptez pas notre témoignage.
Si vous ne croyez pas lorsque je vous parle des choses de la terre, comment croirez-vous quand je vous parlerai des choses du ciel ?
Car nul n'est monté au ciel sinon celui qui est descendu du ciel, le Fils de l'homme.
De même que le serpent de bronze fut élevé par Moïse dans le désert, ainsi faut-il que le Fils de l'homme soit élevé, afin que tout homme qui croit obtienne par lui la vie éternelle. »

Le message

Nicodème, qui est chargé d’instruire Israël, est perdu devant le Seigneur sur le sujet de l’Esprit et de la question de la ‘renaissance des hommes du souffle de l’Esprit’. Ne soyons pas nous étonné, si cela s’arrive à nous aussi. Tout ce qui est demandé à nous ce que nous laissions l’Esprit Saint de nous guider et marcher sur le chemin que le Seigneur nous propose : ‘La Croix’.

La Croix est le chemin que le Seigneur nous propose pour le salut du monde. Faire disparaitre tout ce qui est purement materai et faire naitre en nous une vie entièrement spirituelle. Cette vie demande d’un changement radical, c'est-à-dire, devenir un homme de Dieu, un homme qui vit en Dieu. C’est dans cette vie divine que nous pouvons participer à la vie éternelle. La Porte de cette vie est Jésus Christ.

Gospel text (Jn 3,7-15):

Jesus said to Nicodemus, «Because of this, don't be surprised when I say: ‘You must be born again from above’. The wind blows where it pleases and you hear its sound, but you don't know where it comes from or where it is going. It is like that with everyone who is born of the Spirit». Nicodemus asked again, «How can this be?». And Jesus answered, «You are a teacher in Israel, and you don't know these things! Truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know and we witness to the things we have seen, but you don't accept our testimony. If you don't believe when I speak of earthly things, what then, when I speak to you of heavenly things? No one has ever gone up to heaven except the one who came from heaven, the Son of Man. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that whoever believes in him may have eternal life».

The message

Like Nicodemus, we are also confused of this new rebirth that Jesus is putting as an imperative to have the eternal life. The new life that Jesus is demanding is, a life fully coherent to the Holy Spirit, a life according to the will of the Father.

If we wish to have this life, we are called to adopt a life fully animated by the Holy Spirit. Even if we don’t understand, we should allow the Holy Spirit to fully take charge of our life so that our earthly dominated life may be transformed in to a heavenly and spirit filled life. It is through this earthly life that Jesus is asking us to be elevated up. The door of this eternal life is Jesus. Baptism makes us one such being, fully divine and fully human.

Homélie

Après avoir vécu une semaine dans la joie de la résurrection, nous voici devant le Ressuscité qui souffle l’Esprit Saint qui va les guider toute leur vie. A partir d’aujourd’hui nous allons attendre pour l’Esprit Saint qui va descendre sur nous comme Il la fait au jour de Pentecôte.

Pourtant les événements qui se passent nous découragent. La peur et la désespérance nous enferment en nous-mêmes. Le ressuscité nous donne une nouvelle espérance que ce monde aimerait la voler. Les menaces, les maladies, les catastrophes, les guerres, les oppressions, les violences traversent la vie des hommes. C’est normal que nous voulions nous protéger de ces menaces en verrouillant la porte d’entrée comme les disciples du Seigneur. N’est-elle pas la porte d’espérance que nous avons verrouillée ? Jésus vient à la rencontre de ses disciples et Il revient vers nous, son peuple qui est désespéré. « La Paix soit avec vous » est la salutation du Seigneur.

Il nous rappelle son histoire, l’histoire du peuple de Dieu à partir des Ecritures sacrées. Il nous exhorte que la fidélité à la Parole de Dieu, sa Parole, nous assure la paix et la joie dans notre communauté. Une communauté qui l’écoute et qui la mette en pratique, vivra toujours en unions avec Lui, et elle ressentira la présence et l’accompagnement du Seigneur à jamais.

Ce jour de la canonisation des Papes Jean XXII et Jean Paul II, l’Eglise nous les présente comme notre modèles de la vie chrétienne et nous leur supplions qu’ils intercèdent pour nous auprès le Seigneur qu’Ils servaient avec tant d’amour.

La vie des papes Jean XXIII et Jean Paul II nous inspire. Leur enfance modeste et leur vie de jeunesse nous stimulent. « N’ayez pas peur » nous a dit Jean Paul II. L’initiateur de la journée mondial de jeunesse, même dans sa maladie, partage avec nous une jeunesse d’esprit. S’appuyant sur le crucifix, Il nous a montré que la Croix est là pour nous sauver. Si Jean XXIII était l’initiateur du Council Vatican II, c’était Jean Paul II qui l’a mené.

C’est intéressant à noter que c’était Jean Paul II qui a crée ce dimanche comme une fête de la miséricorde divine, où Thomas s’exprime sa Foi, la Foi de l’Eglise, « Mon Seigneur et mon Dieu,» celui le premier qui a reconnu la divinité par excellence en Jésus Christ sur la terre.

Son incrédulité est là nôtre, nous sommes faibles et nous cherchons toujours les preuves. Aujourd’hui que sa profession de foi, soit la nôtre, que nous arrivions à proclamer qu’Il est notre seigneur et notre sauveur. Que nous soyons miséricordieux comme le Seigneur. Amen

The second Sunday is the Sunday of divine mercy. It is very important to note that the Holy Father who has created this feast is canonized today together with John XXIII who has initiated the council Vat. II.

Having spent a week in the joy of the resurrection, we are in front of the Risen Lord, who is blowing the Holy Spirit in to the hearts of His disciples, who will guide them throughout their lives. From today we will wait with hope for the Holy Spirit who will descend upon us as He did on the day of Pentecost.

Yet events happening around us do discourage us. Fear and despair have made us to enclose ourselves. The Risen Lord gives us new hope that the world would love to steal from us. Threats , disease , disasters , wars, oppression and violence pass through the lives of men on a daily basis . It is normal in such situation that we wanted to protect us from these threats by locking the front door as the disciples of the Lord.

Is it not the door of hope that we have locked ? Jesus comes to meet his disciples and He comes to meet us , the people who are desperate. "Peace be with you" is the greeting of the Lord.
With this greeting, He reminds us of the history, the history of God's people from the sacred Scriptures. He urges us that faithfulness to the Word of God, His Word assures us peace and joy in our community. A community that listens Him and puts His words into practice , will always live in union with Him, and will feel the presence and guidance of the Lord forever.

Millions of people are gathered together in peter’s square to witness the canonization of Pope John XXII and John Paul II. The holy Church presents them as our models of Christian life and we beseech them to intercede for us with the Lord whom they served with such love .
The lives of Popes John XXIII and John Paul II inspire us. Their modest childhood and youth life challenge us . "Do not be afraid," told us John Paul II. The initiator of the World Youth Day , even in his illness, shares with us a youthful spirit . Based on the crucifix, He showed us that the Cross is there to save us .

If John XXIII was the initiator of the Council Vatican II , it was John Paul II who led the people of God fully into it. On this Sunday of the feast of Divine Mercy, we look at the face of saint Thomas who expresses his faith , the faith of the Church, "My Lord and my God, " he was the first who recognized proclaimed the divinity par excellence in Christ on earth.

His unbelief is ours, we are weak and we are always looking for evidence. Now that his profession of faith , be of ours. Let us proclaim that He is our Lord and our Savior. On this Sunday of divine mercy, let us be merciful as the Lord is Merciful. Amen

(Mc 16, 9-15)

Ressuscité de grand matin, le premier jour de la semaine, Jésus apparut d'abord à Marie Madeleine, de laquelle il avait expulsé sept démons.
Celle-ci partit annoncer la nouvelle à ceux qui, ayant vécu avec lui, s'affligeaient et pleuraient.
Quand ils entendirent qu'il était vivant et qu'elle l'avait vu, ils refusèrent de croire.
Après cela, il se manifesta sous un aspect inhabituel à deux d'entre eux qui étaient en chemin pour aller à la campagne.
Ceux-ci revinrent l'annoncer aux autres, qui ne les crurent pas non plus.
Enfin, il se manifesta aux Onze eux-mêmes pendant qu'ils étaient à table : il leur reprocha leur incrédulité et leur endurcissement parce qu'ils n'avaient pas cru ceux qui l'avaient vu ressuscité.
Puis il leur dit : « Allez dans le monde entier. Proclamez la Bonne Nouvelle à toute la création. »

Le message

« Allez dans le monde entier. Proclamez la Bonne Nouvelle à toute la création. » C’est la mission principale de l’Eglise. Notre saint Père nous invite à vivre cet évangile de joie dans notre vie.

Même si les disciples étaient formés par le Seigneur, ils trouvèrent difficile à croire. Pourtant le Seigneur leurs à fait confiance et Il leur demande d’annoncer la Bonne Nouvelle.

Leurs incrédulités et leur manque d’ouverture aux événements qui se sont passé les a formés indirectement de pouvoir comprendre les incrédulités des autres et leur a donné la patience et le courage d’annoncer la Bonne Nouvelle.

Gospel text (Mc 16,9-15):

After Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary of Magdala from whom He had driven out seven demons. She went and reported the news to his followers, who were now mourning and weeping. But when they heard that He lived and had been seen by her, they would not believe it. After this He showed himself in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. These men too went back and told the others, but they did not believe them. Later Jesus showed himself to the Eleven while they were at table. He reproached them for their unbelief and stubbornness in refusing to believe those who had seen him after he had risen. Then he told them, «Go out to the whole world and proclaim the Good News to all creation».

The message

The disciples of Jesus find difficult to believe in the resurrection. They are so much taken up by the discouragement and dissolution, even the good news of resurrection escape to catch up the rightful feelings of joy and contentment.

Jesus seems to be little disappointed of their unbelief, but puts His trust in them, by calling them to announce the Good News of resurrection. Many of these disciples were weak beginning from Peter to Thomas in the eyes of the world, but were the best to announce the Kingdom of God and were ready to give their life for the Gospel.

It is certainly clear that we need the grace of God to announce the Good News. It is in this grace that we can win over our unbelief. During this Easter Season, let us cherish this Pascal Grace for which we were preparing since forty days.

(Jn 21, 1-14)

Jésus se manifesta encore aux disciples sur le bord du lac de Tibériade, et voici comment.
Il y avait là Simon-Pierre, avec Thomas (dont le nom signifie : Jumeau), Nathanaël, de Cana en Galilée, les fils de Zébédée, et deux autres disciples.
Simon-Pierre leur dit : « Je m'en vais à la pêche. » Ils lui répondent : « Nous allons avec toi. » Ils partirent et montèrent dans la barque ; or, ils passèrent la nuit sans rien prendre.

Au lever du jour, Jésus était là, sur le rivage, mais les disciples ne savaient pas que c'était lui.
Jésus les appelle : « Les enfants, auriez-vous un peu de poisson ? » Ils lui répondent : « Non. »
Il leur dit : « Jetez le filet à droite de la barque, et vous trouverez. » Ils jetèrent donc le filet, et cette fois ils n'arrivaient pas à le ramener, tellement il y avait de poisson.
Alors, le disciple que Jésus aimait dit à Pierre : « C'est le Seigneur ! » Quand Simon-Pierre l'entendit déclarer que c'était le Seigneur, il passa un vêtement, car il n'avait rien sur lui, et il se jeta à l'eau.
Les autres disciples arrivent en barque, tirant le filet plein de poissons ; la terre n'était qu'à une centaine de mètres.
En débarquant sur le rivage, ils voient un feu de braise avec du poisson posé dessus, et du pain.
Jésus leur dit : « Apportez donc de ce poisson que vous venez de prendre. »
Simon-Pierre monta dans la barque et amena jusqu'à terre le filet plein de gros poissons : il y en avait cent cinquante-trois. Et, malgré cette quantité, le filet ne s'était pas déchiré.
Jésus dit alors : « Venez déjeuner. » Aucun des disciples n'osait lui demander : « Qui es-tu ? » Ils savaient que c'était le Seigneur.
Jésus s'approche, prend le pain et le leur donne, ainsi que le poisson.

C'était la troisième fois que Jésus ressuscité d'entre les morts se manifestait à ses disciples.

Le message

Jésus cherche encore Pierre où il était auparavant. Il le rappelle son devoir, pêcheur des hommes. Il utilise le feu allumé non seulement pour griller le poisson mais également pour chauffer la foi de ses Apôtres. Le feu qu’Il a allumé dans le cœur des Apôtre est encore vivant. Saint Jean nous dit ‘se manifesta’, une manifestation après la résurrection est importante pour la foi de ses disciples.

Il dit encore que sans Jésus il y a un vide, le travail sans Jésus nous ne donnera aucun fruit. Ecouter la Parole du Seigneur, et si nous la mettons en pratique, nous pouvons avoir la même expérience de ces disciples.

Jésus prépare la table. Il les invite encore une fois comme Il l’a fait auparavant. A table avec le Seigneur, est un bonheur que Dieu nous donne, un partage parfait, où Il se donne. Pouvons-nous la répéter pour le bien de nos frères et sœurs ?

Gospel text (Jn 21,1-14):

Jesus revealed himself to the disciples by the Lake of Tiberias. He appeared to them in this way. Simon Peter, Thomas who was called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee and two other disciples were together; and Simon Peter said to them, «I'm going fishing». They replied, «We will come with you», and they went out and got into the boat. But they caught nothing that night.

When day had already broken, Jesus was standing on the shore, but the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus called them, «Children, have you anything to eat?». They answered, «Nothing». Then He said to them, «Throw the net on the right side of the boat and you will find some». When they had lowered the net, they were not able to pull it in because of the great number of fish. Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, «It's the Lord!». At these words, «It's the Lord», Simon Peter put on his clothes, for he was stripped for work, and jumped into the water. The other disciples came in the boat dragging the net full of fish; they were not far from land, about a hundred meters.

When they landed, they saw a charcoal fire with fish on it, and some bread. Jesus said to them, «Bring some of the fish you've just caught». So Simon Peter climbed into the boat and pulled the net to shore. It was full of big fish —one hundred and fifty-three— but, in spite of this, the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, «Come and have breakfast», and not one of the disciples dared ask him, «Who are you?», for they knew it was the Lord. Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and He did the same with the fish. This was the third time that Jesus revealed himself to his disciples after rising from the dead.

The message

Jesus is once again with Peter while he is fishing and He reminds him politely his call to be the fisher of men. Getting back to the old vocation may be an easier option and Peter is called to take a new mission, which he will do willingly for the Lord.

Jesus continues to reveal His identity as the resurrected One, a new revelation which the disciples will witness to others, these intense moments of their life.

Going to fish without the Lord is a great danger of getting nothing after a hard work. It is important that every missionary listens to the Word of the Lord before getting into action. But the most important revelation comes in the sharing of the bread. It is here that human being finds the real generosity of the Lord. He needs our little fish to multiply. Are we ready to give to Him? After all it is because Him that we got everything.

(Lc 24, 35-48)

Les disciples qui rentraient d'Emmaüs racontaient aux onze Apôtres et à leurs compagnons ce qui s'était passé sur la route, et comment ils l'avaient reconnu quand il avait rompu le pain.
Comme ils en parlaient encore, lui-même était là au milieu d'eux, et il leur dit : « La paix soit avec vous ! »
Frappés de stupeur et de crainte, ils croyaient voir un esprit.
Jésus leur dit : « Pourquoi êtes-vous bouleversés ? Et pourquoi ces pensées qui surgissent en vous ? Voyez mes mains et mes pieds : c'est bien moi ! Touchez-moi, regardez : un esprit n'a pas de chair ni d'os, et vous constatez que j'en ai. »
Après cette parole, il leur montra ses mains et ses pieds.
Dans leur joie, ils n'osaient pas encore y croire, et restaient saisis d'étonnement. Jésus leur dit : « Avez-vous ici quelque chose à manger ? »
Ils lui offrirent un morceau de poisson grillé.
Il le prit et le mangea devant eux.
Puis il déclara : « Rappelez-vous les paroles que je vous ai dites quand j'étais encore avec vous : Il fallait que s'accomplisse tout ce qui a été écrit de moi dans la loi de Moïse, les Prophètes et les Psaumes. »
Alors il leur ouvrit l'esprit à l'intelligence des Écritures.
Il conclut : « C'est bien ce qui était annoncé par l'Écriture : les souffrances du Messie, sa résurrection d'entre les morts le troisième jour, et la conversion proclamée en son nom pour le pardon des péchés à toutes les nations, en commençant par Jérusalem.
C'est vous qui en êtes les témoins. »

Le message

Le revient encore vers ses disciples pour qu’ils vivent pleinement dans la foi. Il ouvre l’esprit à l’intelligence des Ecritures et qu’ils n’aient pas la peur de témoigner, parce que la mort est le chemin de la résurrection.

Le Seigneur partage le pain avec ses disciples et dans ce partage Il les assure. C’est dans cette assurance de l’accompagnement du Seigneur que ses disciples ont commencé à annoncer la Bonne Nouvelle.

Partageons nos pains et écoutons les uns les autres. Laissons-nous guider par l’Esprit Saint et Il nous dira tout ce que nous devons faire dans notre vie quotidienne.

Gospel text (Lc 24,35-48):

The two disciples told what had happened on the road and how Jesus made himself known when He broke bread with them. As they went on talking about this, Jesus himself stood in their midst. And He said to them, «Peace to you». In their panic and fright they thought they were seeing a ghost, but He said to them, «Why are you upset and why do such ideas cross your mind? Look at my hands and feet and see that it is I myself. Touch me and see for yourselves that a ghost has no flesh and bones as I have». As He said this, He showed his hands and feet. In their joy they didn't dare believe and were still astonished. So He said to them, «Have you anything to eat?», and they gave him a piece of broiled fish. He took it and ate it before them.

Then Jesus said to them, «Remember the words I spoke to you when I was still with you: Everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms had to be fulfilled». Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. And He went on, «You see what was written: the Messiah had to suffer and on the third day rise from the dead. Then repentance and forgiveness in his name would be proclaimed to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. Now you shall be witnesses to this».

The message

To the disciples discouraged and disappointed, Jesus is announcing the Peace, the Peace of the resurrection. Like Mary Madeleine who took Jesus as a Gardner, the disciples in their fear and panic they see the ghost in Jesus. What a shocking event, but very much true in our daily lives. We misjudge all that we see without applying our intelligence.

Jesus is there to open their eyes of intelligence through the sacred Scriptures so that they could understand the plan of God and in particular, the importance of the death as a means for the resurrection.

By sharing the daily bread, Jesus joins in their daily lives. We have to immerge in to the lives of our people by participating in their daily activities. It is in sharing that we could be the true witness of Jesus’ resurrection.

(Lc 24, 13-35)

Le troisième jour après la mort de Jésus, deux disciples faisaient route vers un village appelé Emmaüs, à deux heures de marche de Jérusalem, et ils parlaient ensemble de tout ce qui s'était passé.

Or, tandis qu'ils parlaient et discutaient, Jésus lui-même s'approcha, et il marchait avec eux. Mais leurs yeux étaient aveuglés, et ils ne le reconnaissaient pas.
Jésus leur dit : « De quoi causiez-vous donc, tout en marchant ? » Alors, ils s'arrêtèrent, tout tristes.
L'un des deux, nommé Cléophas, répondit : « Tu es bien le seul de tous ceux qui étaient à Jérusalem à ignorer les événements de ces jours-ci. »
Il leur dit : « Quels événements ? » Ils lui répondirent : « Ce qui est arrivé à Jésus de Nazareth : cet homme était un prophète puissant par ses actes et ses paroles devant Dieu et devant tout le peuple.
Les chefs des prêtres et nos dirigeants l'ont livré, ils l'ont fait condamner à mort et ils l'ont crucifié.
Et nous qui espérions qu'il serait le libérateur d'Israël ! Avec tout cela, voici déjà le troisième jour qui passe depuis que c'est arrivé.
À vrai dire, nous avons été bouleversés par quelques femmes de notre groupe. Elles sont allées au tombeau de très bonne heure, et elles n'ont pas trouvé son corps ; elles sont même venues nous dire qu'elles avaient eu une apparition : des anges, qui disaient qu'il est vivant.
Quelques-uns de nos compagnons sont allés au tombeau, et ils ont trouvé les choses comme les femmes l'avaient dit ; mais lui, ils ne l'ont pas vu. »
Il leur dit alors : « Vous n'avez donc pas compris ! Comme votre cœur est lent à croire tout ce qu'ont dit les prophètes ! Ne fallait-il pas que le Messie souffrît tout cela pour entrer dans sa gloire ? »
Et, en partant de Moïse et de tous les Prophètes, il leur expliqua, dans toute l'Écriture, ce qui le concernait.
Quand ils approchèrent du village où ils se rendaient, Jésus fit semblant d'aller plus loin.
Mais ils s'efforcèrent de le retenir : « Reste avec nous : le soir approche et déjà le jour baisse. » Il entra donc pour rester avec eux.

Quand il fut à table avec eux, il prit le pain, dit la bénédiction, le rompit et le leur donna.
Alors leurs yeux s'ouvrirent, et ils le reconnurent, mais il disparut à leurs regards.
Alors ils se dirent l'un à l'autre : « Notre cœur n'était-il pas brûlant en nous, tandis qu'il nous parlait sur la route, et qu'il nous faisait comprendre les Écritures ? »
À l'instant même, ils se levèrent et retournèrent à Jérusalem. Ils y trouvèrent réunis les onze Apôtres et leurs compagnons, qui leur dirent :
« C'est vrai ! le Seigneur est ressuscité : il est apparu à Simon-Pierre. »
À leur tour, ils racontaient ce qui s'était passé sur la route, et comment ils l'avaient reconnu quand il avait rompu le pain.

Le message

Jésus vient à la rencontre de ses disciples, tristes et découragés. Jésus nous accompagne de telle manière que nous n’arrivons pas à le reconnaitre, pourtant Il se met à côté de nous, pour que nous comprenions l’importance de la vie d’un disciple.

Nous devons l’inviter comme ces disciples d’Emmaüs, « Reste avec nous, Il fait tard. » Lorsque nous partageons nos pains et notre vie avec les autres, c’est alors nous serons capable de reconnaitre la présence du Seigneur dans notre vie.

Gospel text (Lc 24,13-35):

Two disciples of Jesus were going to Emmaus, a village seven miles from Jerusalem, and they talked about what had happened. While they were talking and wondering, Jesus came up and walked with them, but their eyes were held and they did not recognize him.

He asked, «What is this you are talking about?». The two stood still, looking sad. Then one named Cleophas answered, «Why, it seems you are the only traveller in Jerusalem who doesn't know what has happened there these past few days». And he asked, «What is it?». They replied, «It is about Jesus of Nazareth. He was a prophet, you know, mighty in word and deed before God and the people. But the chief priests and our rulers sentenced him to death. They handed him over to be crucified. We had hoped that he would redeem Israel. It is now the third day since all this took place. It is true that some women of our group have disturbed us. When they went to the tomb at dawn, they did not find his body; they came to tell us that they had seen a vision of angels who told them that Jesus was alive. Some friends of our group went to the tomb and found everything just as the women had said, but they did not see him». He said to them, «How dull you are, how slow of understanding! You fail to believe the message of the prophets. Is it not written that the Christ should suffer all this and then enter his glory?». Then starting with Moses and going through the prophets, He explained to them everything in the Scriptures concerning himself.

As they drew near the village they were heading for, Jesus made as if to go farther. But they prevailed upon him, «Stay with us, for night comes quickly. The day is now almost over». So he went in to stay with them. When they were at table, he took the bread, said a blessing, broke it and gave each a piece. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; but He vanished out of their sight. And they said to each other, «Were not our hearts filled with ardent yearning when He was talking to us on the road and explaining the Scriptures?».

They immediately set out and returned to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and their companions gathered together. They were greeted by these words: «Yes, it is true, the Lord is risen! He has appeared to Simon!». Then the two told what had happened on the road and how Jesus made himself known when he broke bread with them.

The message

Very often our eyes also remain closed to see the silent presence of the Lord and His accompaniment in our lives. Like these disciples, we also tempted to judge merely of human measures and reject the wonderful opportunities that Lord proposes to us.

Like these disciples we should allow Jesus to come in to our lives, and very particularly during our difficult moments of life. It is in this difficult passage of life, we should open our hearts and minds to welcome others who are in need of us. We should invite and sometime insist the Lord like these disciples to cherish the wonderful gift of God’s revelation.

Every divine encounter gives us the energy and courage to take forward our lives. Even the path we have abandoned due to doubt and failures will be easier for us with this divine encounter. Even the darkness will not stop us to take a return path towards reconciliation and love.

(Jn 20, 11-18)

Marie Madeleine restait là dehors, à pleurer devant le tombeau. Elle se penche vers l'intérieur, tout en larmes, et, à l'endroit où le corps de Jésus avait été déposé, elle aperçoit deux anges vêtus de blanc, assis l'un à la tête et l'autre aux pieds.
Ils lui demandent : « Femme, pourquoi pleures-tu ? » Elle leur répond : « On a enlevé le Seigneur mon Maître, et je ne sais pas où on l'a mis. »
Tout en disant cela, elle se retourne et aperçoit Jésus qui était là, mais elle ne savait pas que c'était Jésus.
Jésus lui demande : « Femme, pourquoi pleures-tu ? Qui cherches-tu ? » Le prenant pour le gardien, elle lui répond : « Si c'est toi qui l'as emporté, dis-moi où tu l'as mis, et moi, j'irai le reprendre. »
Jésus lui dit alors : « Marie ! » Elle se tourne vers lui et lui dit : « Rabbouni ! » ce qui veut dire : « Maître » dans la langue des Juifs.
Jésus reprend : « Cesse de me tenir, je ne suis pas encore monté vers le Père. Va plutôt trouver mes frères pour leur dire que je monte vers mon Père et votre Père, vers mon Dieu et votre Dieu. »
Marie Madeleine s'en va donc annoncer aux disciples : « J'ai vu le Seigneur, et voilà ce qu'il m'a dit. »

Le message

La rencontre avec le Seigneur transforme sa tristesse en joie, la joie de la résurrection. Chaque rencontre humain est une véritable rencontre divine où Dieu nous confie une mission. Pour Maire Madeleine c’était l’annonce de la résurrection aux Apôtres du Seigneur.

« Qui cherches-tu ? » est une question qui s’adresse à chacun et chacune de nous. Marie Madeleine a cherché le mort, c’est pour quoi elle a pris le Seigneur pour un gardien. Même si le Seigneur était là devant elle, elle n’était pas capable de le reconnaitre. Un appel personnel par le nom a réveillé Marie Madeleine et elle a pu témoigner en disant « Jai vu le Seigneur. » Avons-nous les oreilles pour entendre cet appel du Seigneur et prêts à nous engager à la mission du Christ ressuscité?

Gospel text (Jn 20,11-18):

Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she bent down to look inside; she saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had been, one at the head, and the other at the feet. They said, «Woman, why are you weeping?». She answered, «Because they have taken my Lord and I don't know where they have put him». As she said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not recognize him. Jesus said to her, «Woman, why are you weeping? Who are you looking for?». She thought it was the gardener and answered him, «Lord, if you have taken him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will go and remove him». Jesus said to her, «Mary». She turned and said to him, «Rabboni» —which means, “Master”. Jesus said to her, «Do not cling to me; you see I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them: ‘I am ascending to my Father, who is your Father, to my God, who is your God’». So Mary of Magdala went and announced to the disciples, «I have seen the Lord, and this is what he said to me».

The message

The love of the Lord has pushed this lady to take courage and go towards the tomb. Not finding the body of the Lord, she is perplexed. In this moment of sad and discouragement, she is mistaken of Lord’s identity, taking Him as the gardener. Many at times we also come across such situation where we misjudge misinterpret or we are lost. Jesus is calling her by her name and this personal call has helped her to give a personal profession of Faith. Only if we would have heard this personal call or witness personally, we could declare this personal profession of faith and of our love.

In this call, Jesus is asking her to start to announce the Good News, by announcing the resurrection to the Apostles, who in return will do the same. A great mission is confined to someone who loves the Lord. It is in this love we are called to announce the Good News. How much important to have this personal relationship with the Lord to be a credible witness? Do we hear and understand this personal call of the Lord by our name? And what is the mission confined to us today?
