Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Jean

(Jn 21, 1-14)

Jésus se manifesta encore aux disciples sur le bord du lac de Tibériade, et voici comment.
Il y avait là Simon-Pierre, avec Thomas (dont le nom signifie : Jumeau), Nathanaël, de Cana en Galilée, les fils de Zébédée, et deux autres disciples.
Simon-Pierre leur dit : « Je m'en vais à la pêche. » Ils lui répondent : « Nous allons avec toi. » Ils partirent et montèrent dans la barque ; or, ils passèrent la nuit sans rien prendre.

Au lever du jour, Jésus était là, sur le rivage, mais les disciples ne savaient pas que c'était lui.
Jésus les appelle : « Les enfants, auriez-vous un peu de poisson ? » Ils lui répondent : « Non. »
Il leur dit : « Jetez le filet à droite de la barque, et vous trouverez. » Ils jetèrent donc le filet, et cette fois ils n'arrivaient pas à le ramener, tellement il y avait de poisson.
Alors, le disciple que Jésus aimait dit à Pierre : « C'est le Seigneur ! » Quand Simon-Pierre l'entendit déclarer que c'était le Seigneur, il passa un vêtement, car il n'avait rien sur lui, et il se jeta à l'eau.
Les autres disciples arrivent en barque, tirant le filet plein de poissons ; la terre n'était qu'à une centaine de mètres.
En débarquant sur le rivage, ils voient un feu de braise avec du poisson posé dessus, et du pain.
Jésus leur dit : « Apportez donc de ce poisson que vous venez de prendre. »
Simon-Pierre monta dans la barque et amena jusqu'à terre le filet plein de gros poissons : il y en avait cent cinquante-trois. Et, malgré cette quantité, le filet ne s'était pas déchiré.
Jésus dit alors : « Venez déjeuner. » Aucun des disciples n'osait lui demander : « Qui es-tu ? » Ils savaient que c'était le Seigneur.
Jésus s'approche, prend le pain et le leur donne, ainsi que le poisson.

C'était la troisième fois que Jésus ressuscité d'entre les morts se manifestait à ses disciples.

Le message

Jésus cherche encore Pierre où il était auparavant. Il le rappelle son devoir, pêcheur des hommes. Il utilise le feu allumé non seulement pour griller le poisson mais également pour chauffer la foi de ses Apôtres. Le feu qu’Il a allumé dans le cœur des Apôtre est encore vivant. Saint Jean nous dit ‘se manifesta’, une manifestation après la résurrection est importante pour la foi de ses disciples.

Il dit encore que sans Jésus il y a un vide, le travail sans Jésus nous ne donnera aucun fruit. Ecouter la Parole du Seigneur, et si nous la mettons en pratique, nous pouvons avoir la même expérience de ces disciples.

Jésus prépare la table. Il les invite encore une fois comme Il l’a fait auparavant. A table avec le Seigneur, est un bonheur que Dieu nous donne, un partage parfait, où Il se donne. Pouvons-nous la répéter pour le bien de nos frères et sœurs ?

Gospel text (Jn 21,1-14):

Jesus revealed himself to the disciples by the Lake of Tiberias. He appeared to them in this way. Simon Peter, Thomas who was called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee and two other disciples were together; and Simon Peter said to them, «I'm going fishing». They replied, «We will come with you», and they went out and got into the boat. But they caught nothing that night.

When day had already broken, Jesus was standing on the shore, but the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus called them, «Children, have you anything to eat?». They answered, «Nothing». Then He said to them, «Throw the net on the right side of the boat and you will find some». When they had lowered the net, they were not able to pull it in because of the great number of fish. Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, «It's the Lord!». At these words, «It's the Lord», Simon Peter put on his clothes, for he was stripped for work, and jumped into the water. The other disciples came in the boat dragging the net full of fish; they were not far from land, about a hundred meters.

When they landed, they saw a charcoal fire with fish on it, and some bread. Jesus said to them, «Bring some of the fish you've just caught». So Simon Peter climbed into the boat and pulled the net to shore. It was full of big fish —one hundred and fifty-three— but, in spite of this, the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, «Come and have breakfast», and not one of the disciples dared ask him, «Who are you?», for they knew it was the Lord. Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and He did the same with the fish. This was the third time that Jesus revealed himself to his disciples after rising from the dead.

The message

Jesus is once again with Peter while he is fishing and He reminds him politely his call to be the fisher of men. Getting back to the old vocation may be an easier option and Peter is called to take a new mission, which he will do willingly for the Lord.

Jesus continues to reveal His identity as the resurrected One, a new revelation which the disciples will witness to others, these intense moments of their life.

Going to fish without the Lord is a great danger of getting nothing after a hard work. It is important that every missionary listens to the Word of the Lord before getting into action. But the most important revelation comes in the sharing of the bread. It is here that human being finds the real generosity of the Lord. He needs our little fish to multiply. Are we ready to give to Him? After all it is because Him that we got everything.

(Lc 24, 35-48)

Les disciples qui rentraient d'Emmaüs racontaient aux onze Apôtres et à leurs compagnons ce qui s'était passé sur la route, et comment ils l'avaient reconnu quand il avait rompu le pain.
Comme ils en parlaient encore, lui-même était là au milieu d'eux, et il leur dit : « La paix soit avec vous ! »
Frappés de stupeur et de crainte, ils croyaient voir un esprit.
Jésus leur dit : « Pourquoi êtes-vous bouleversés ? Et pourquoi ces pensées qui surgissent en vous ? Voyez mes mains et mes pieds : c'est bien moi ! Touchez-moi, regardez : un esprit n'a pas de chair ni d'os, et vous constatez que j'en ai. »
Après cette parole, il leur montra ses mains et ses pieds.
Dans leur joie, ils n'osaient pas encore y croire, et restaient saisis d'étonnement. Jésus leur dit : « Avez-vous ici quelque chose à manger ? »
Ils lui offrirent un morceau de poisson grillé.
Il le prit et le mangea devant eux.
Puis il déclara : « Rappelez-vous les paroles que je vous ai dites quand j'étais encore avec vous : Il fallait que s'accomplisse tout ce qui a été écrit de moi dans la loi de Moïse, les Prophètes et les Psaumes. »
Alors il leur ouvrit l'esprit à l'intelligence des Écritures.
Il conclut : « C'est bien ce qui était annoncé par l'Écriture : les souffrances du Messie, sa résurrection d'entre les morts le troisième jour, et la conversion proclamée en son nom pour le pardon des péchés à toutes les nations, en commençant par Jérusalem.
C'est vous qui en êtes les témoins. »

Le message

Le revient encore vers ses disciples pour qu’ils vivent pleinement dans la foi. Il ouvre l’esprit à l’intelligence des Ecritures et qu’ils n’aient pas la peur de témoigner, parce que la mort est le chemin de la résurrection.

Le Seigneur partage le pain avec ses disciples et dans ce partage Il les assure. C’est dans cette assurance de l’accompagnement du Seigneur que ses disciples ont commencé à annoncer la Bonne Nouvelle.

Partageons nos pains et écoutons les uns les autres. Laissons-nous guider par l’Esprit Saint et Il nous dira tout ce que nous devons faire dans notre vie quotidienne.

Gospel text (Lc 24,35-48):

The two disciples told what had happened on the road and how Jesus made himself known when He broke bread with them. As they went on talking about this, Jesus himself stood in their midst. And He said to them, «Peace to you». In their panic and fright they thought they were seeing a ghost, but He said to them, «Why are you upset and why do such ideas cross your mind? Look at my hands and feet and see that it is I myself. Touch me and see for yourselves that a ghost has no flesh and bones as I have». As He said this, He showed his hands and feet. In their joy they didn't dare believe and were still astonished. So He said to them, «Have you anything to eat?», and they gave him a piece of broiled fish. He took it and ate it before them.

Then Jesus said to them, «Remember the words I spoke to you when I was still with you: Everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms had to be fulfilled». Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. And He went on, «You see what was written: the Messiah had to suffer and on the third day rise from the dead. Then repentance and forgiveness in his name would be proclaimed to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. Now you shall be witnesses to this».

The message

To the disciples discouraged and disappointed, Jesus is announcing the Peace, the Peace of the resurrection. Like Mary Madeleine who took Jesus as a Gardner, the disciples in their fear and panic they see the ghost in Jesus. What a shocking event, but very much true in our daily lives. We misjudge all that we see without applying our intelligence.

Jesus is there to open their eyes of intelligence through the sacred Scriptures so that they could understand the plan of God and in particular, the importance of the death as a means for the resurrection.

By sharing the daily bread, Jesus joins in their daily lives. We have to immerge in to the lives of our people by participating in their daily activities. It is in sharing that we could be the true witness of Jesus’ resurrection.

(Lc 24, 13-35)

Le troisième jour après la mort de Jésus, deux disciples faisaient route vers un village appelé Emmaüs, à deux heures de marche de Jérusalem, et ils parlaient ensemble de tout ce qui s'était passé.

Or, tandis qu'ils parlaient et discutaient, Jésus lui-même s'approcha, et il marchait avec eux. Mais leurs yeux étaient aveuglés, et ils ne le reconnaissaient pas.
Jésus leur dit : « De quoi causiez-vous donc, tout en marchant ? » Alors, ils s'arrêtèrent, tout tristes.
L'un des deux, nommé Cléophas, répondit : « Tu es bien le seul de tous ceux qui étaient à Jérusalem à ignorer les événements de ces jours-ci. »
Il leur dit : « Quels événements ? » Ils lui répondirent : « Ce qui est arrivé à Jésus de Nazareth : cet homme était un prophète puissant par ses actes et ses paroles devant Dieu et devant tout le peuple.
Les chefs des prêtres et nos dirigeants l'ont livré, ils l'ont fait condamner à mort et ils l'ont crucifié.
Et nous qui espérions qu'il serait le libérateur d'Israël ! Avec tout cela, voici déjà le troisième jour qui passe depuis que c'est arrivé.
À vrai dire, nous avons été bouleversés par quelques femmes de notre groupe. Elles sont allées au tombeau de très bonne heure, et elles n'ont pas trouvé son corps ; elles sont même venues nous dire qu'elles avaient eu une apparition : des anges, qui disaient qu'il est vivant.
Quelques-uns de nos compagnons sont allés au tombeau, et ils ont trouvé les choses comme les femmes l'avaient dit ; mais lui, ils ne l'ont pas vu. »
Il leur dit alors : « Vous n'avez donc pas compris ! Comme votre cœur est lent à croire tout ce qu'ont dit les prophètes ! Ne fallait-il pas que le Messie souffrît tout cela pour entrer dans sa gloire ? »
Et, en partant de Moïse et de tous les Prophètes, il leur expliqua, dans toute l'Écriture, ce qui le concernait.
Quand ils approchèrent du village où ils se rendaient, Jésus fit semblant d'aller plus loin.
Mais ils s'efforcèrent de le retenir : « Reste avec nous : le soir approche et déjà le jour baisse. » Il entra donc pour rester avec eux.

Quand il fut à table avec eux, il prit le pain, dit la bénédiction, le rompit et le leur donna.
Alors leurs yeux s'ouvrirent, et ils le reconnurent, mais il disparut à leurs regards.
Alors ils se dirent l'un à l'autre : « Notre cœur n'était-il pas brûlant en nous, tandis qu'il nous parlait sur la route, et qu'il nous faisait comprendre les Écritures ? »
À l'instant même, ils se levèrent et retournèrent à Jérusalem. Ils y trouvèrent réunis les onze Apôtres et leurs compagnons, qui leur dirent :
« C'est vrai ! le Seigneur est ressuscité : il est apparu à Simon-Pierre. »
À leur tour, ils racontaient ce qui s'était passé sur la route, et comment ils l'avaient reconnu quand il avait rompu le pain.

Le message

Jésus vient à la rencontre de ses disciples, tristes et découragés. Jésus nous accompagne de telle manière que nous n’arrivons pas à le reconnaitre, pourtant Il se met à côté de nous, pour que nous comprenions l’importance de la vie d’un disciple.

Nous devons l’inviter comme ces disciples d’Emmaüs, « Reste avec nous, Il fait tard. » Lorsque nous partageons nos pains et notre vie avec les autres, c’est alors nous serons capable de reconnaitre la présence du Seigneur dans notre vie.

Gospel text (Lc 24,13-35):

Two disciples of Jesus were going to Emmaus, a village seven miles from Jerusalem, and they talked about what had happened. While they were talking and wondering, Jesus came up and walked with them, but their eyes were held and they did not recognize him.

He asked, «What is this you are talking about?». The two stood still, looking sad. Then one named Cleophas answered, «Why, it seems you are the only traveller in Jerusalem who doesn't know what has happened there these past few days». And he asked, «What is it?». They replied, «It is about Jesus of Nazareth. He was a prophet, you know, mighty in word and deed before God and the people. But the chief priests and our rulers sentenced him to death. They handed him over to be crucified. We had hoped that he would redeem Israel. It is now the third day since all this took place. It is true that some women of our group have disturbed us. When they went to the tomb at dawn, they did not find his body; they came to tell us that they had seen a vision of angels who told them that Jesus was alive. Some friends of our group went to the tomb and found everything just as the women had said, but they did not see him». He said to them, «How dull you are, how slow of understanding! You fail to believe the message of the prophets. Is it not written that the Christ should suffer all this and then enter his glory?». Then starting with Moses and going through the prophets, He explained to them everything in the Scriptures concerning himself.

As they drew near the village they were heading for, Jesus made as if to go farther. But they prevailed upon him, «Stay with us, for night comes quickly. The day is now almost over». So he went in to stay with them. When they were at table, he took the bread, said a blessing, broke it and gave each a piece. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; but He vanished out of their sight. And they said to each other, «Were not our hearts filled with ardent yearning when He was talking to us on the road and explaining the Scriptures?».

They immediately set out and returned to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and their companions gathered together. They were greeted by these words: «Yes, it is true, the Lord is risen! He has appeared to Simon!». Then the two told what had happened on the road and how Jesus made himself known when he broke bread with them.

The message

Very often our eyes also remain closed to see the silent presence of the Lord and His accompaniment in our lives. Like these disciples, we also tempted to judge merely of human measures and reject the wonderful opportunities that Lord proposes to us.

Like these disciples we should allow Jesus to come in to our lives, and very particularly during our difficult moments of life. It is in this difficult passage of life, we should open our hearts and minds to welcome others who are in need of us. We should invite and sometime insist the Lord like these disciples to cherish the wonderful gift of God’s revelation.

Every divine encounter gives us the energy and courage to take forward our lives. Even the path we have abandoned due to doubt and failures will be easier for us with this divine encounter. Even the darkness will not stop us to take a return path towards reconciliation and love.

(Jn 20, 11-18)

Marie Madeleine restait là dehors, à pleurer devant le tombeau. Elle se penche vers l'intérieur, tout en larmes, et, à l'endroit où le corps de Jésus avait été déposé, elle aperçoit deux anges vêtus de blanc, assis l'un à la tête et l'autre aux pieds.
Ils lui demandent : « Femme, pourquoi pleures-tu ? » Elle leur répond : « On a enlevé le Seigneur mon Maître, et je ne sais pas où on l'a mis. »
Tout en disant cela, elle se retourne et aperçoit Jésus qui était là, mais elle ne savait pas que c'était Jésus.
Jésus lui demande : « Femme, pourquoi pleures-tu ? Qui cherches-tu ? » Le prenant pour le gardien, elle lui répond : « Si c'est toi qui l'as emporté, dis-moi où tu l'as mis, et moi, j'irai le reprendre. »
Jésus lui dit alors : « Marie ! » Elle se tourne vers lui et lui dit : « Rabbouni ! » ce qui veut dire : « Maître » dans la langue des Juifs.
Jésus reprend : « Cesse de me tenir, je ne suis pas encore monté vers le Père. Va plutôt trouver mes frères pour leur dire que je monte vers mon Père et votre Père, vers mon Dieu et votre Dieu. »
Marie Madeleine s'en va donc annoncer aux disciples : « J'ai vu le Seigneur, et voilà ce qu'il m'a dit. »

Le message

La rencontre avec le Seigneur transforme sa tristesse en joie, la joie de la résurrection. Chaque rencontre humain est une véritable rencontre divine où Dieu nous confie une mission. Pour Maire Madeleine c’était l’annonce de la résurrection aux Apôtres du Seigneur.

« Qui cherches-tu ? » est une question qui s’adresse à chacun et chacune de nous. Marie Madeleine a cherché le mort, c’est pour quoi elle a pris le Seigneur pour un gardien. Même si le Seigneur était là devant elle, elle n’était pas capable de le reconnaitre. Un appel personnel par le nom a réveillé Marie Madeleine et elle a pu témoigner en disant « Jai vu le Seigneur. » Avons-nous les oreilles pour entendre cet appel du Seigneur et prêts à nous engager à la mission du Christ ressuscité?

Gospel text (Jn 20,11-18):

Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she bent down to look inside; she saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had been, one at the head, and the other at the feet. They said, «Woman, why are you weeping?». She answered, «Because they have taken my Lord and I don't know where they have put him». As she said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not recognize him. Jesus said to her, «Woman, why are you weeping? Who are you looking for?». She thought it was the gardener and answered him, «Lord, if you have taken him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will go and remove him». Jesus said to her, «Mary». She turned and said to him, «Rabboni» —which means, “Master”. Jesus said to her, «Do not cling to me; you see I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them: ‘I am ascending to my Father, who is your Father, to my God, who is your God’». So Mary of Magdala went and announced to the disciples, «I have seen the Lord, and this is what he said to me».

The message

The love of the Lord has pushed this lady to take courage and go towards the tomb. Not finding the body of the Lord, she is perplexed. In this moment of sad and discouragement, she is mistaken of Lord’s identity, taking Him as the gardener. Many at times we also come across such situation where we misjudge misinterpret or we are lost. Jesus is calling her by her name and this personal call has helped her to give a personal profession of Faith. Only if we would have heard this personal call or witness personally, we could declare this personal profession of faith and of our love.

In this call, Jesus is asking her to start to announce the Good News, by announcing the resurrection to the Apostles, who in return will do the same. A great mission is confined to someone who loves the Lord. It is in this love we are called to announce the Good News. How much important to have this personal relationship with the Lord to be a credible witness? Do we hear and understand this personal call of the Lord by our name? And what is the mission confined to us today?

(Mt 28, 8-15)

Quand les femmes eurent entendu les paroles de l'ange, vite, elles quittèrent le tombeau, tremblantes et toutes joyeuses, et elles coururent porter la nouvelle aux disciples.
Et voici que Jésus vint à leur rencontre et leur dit : « Je vous salue. » Elles s'approchèrent et, lui saisissant les pieds, elles se prosternèrent devant lui.
Alors Jésus leur dit : « Soyez sans crainte, allez annoncer à mes frères qu'ils doivent se rendre en Galilée : c'est là qu'ils me verront. »
Tandis qu'elles étaient en chemin, quelques-uns des hommes chargés de garder le tombeau allèrent en ville annoncer aux chefs des prêtres tout ce qui s'était passé.
Ceux-ci, après s'être réunis avec les anciens et avoir tenu conseil, donnèrent aux soldats une forte somme en leur disant : « Voilà ce que vous raconterez : 'Ses disciples sont venus voler le corps, la nuit pendant que nous dormions.' Et si tout cela vient aux oreilles du gouverneur, nous lui expliquerons la chose, et nous vous éviterons tout ennui. »
Les soldats prirent l'argent et suivirent la leçon. Et cette explication s'est propagée chez les Juifs jusqu'à ce jour.

Le message

Toute joyeuse les femmes commencent à annoncer la Bonne Nouvelle aux disciples du Seigneur. Il a choisi les Apôtres et les a préparés à sa mission. C’est étonnant que ce soit ces femmes qui aimaient le Seigneur soient les premiers témoins de la résurrection, et que ce soit elles qui annoncent la nouvelle aux Apôtres.

L’amour est le centre de cette rencontre et qu’il le sera toujours dans l’Eglise du Seigneur. C’est dans cet amour divin que nous sommes appelés à vivre notre vie chrétienne et à rendre témoignage au monde. Par la nature du baptême, nous sommes missionnaires et que nous les soyons dans ce monde qui a soif de cet amour.

Gospel text (Mt 28,8-15):

The women left the tomb at once in holy fear, yet with great joy, and they ran to tell the news to the disciples. Suddenly, Jesus met them on the way and said, «Peace». The women approached him, embraced his feet and worshiped him. But Jesus said to them, «Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to set out for Galilee; there they will see me».

While the women were on their way, the guards returned to the city and some of them reported to the chief priests all that had happened. The chief priests met with the Jewish authorities and decided to give the soldiers a good sum of money, with this instruction, «Say that his disciples came by night while you were asleep, and stole the body of Jesus. If Pilate comes to know of this, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble». The soldiers accepted the money and did as they were told. This story has circulated among the Jews until this day.

The message

In the holy fear they found a deep joy of the good news about the resurrection of the Lord. This joy is to be shared and lived. What can be the best way of celebrating and living this joy than sharing this with our dear and near ones? The Holy Father is inviting us to witness this joy of being Christian by sharing this deep joy with others.

However it is important to note that the Lord has chosen these women to be His first witness of the Resurrection. Even though He has called the apostles to continue the mission of the Father, the love these women had for the Lord has rewarded them by making them the first disciples to announce the resurrection. Let us learn to love the Lord like these women and wait for the surprise gifts from the Lord.

Suivons le Seigneur fidèlement et écoutons tout ce qu’Il nous dira toute la semaine. Ce lundi perfumons-nous par les bonnes paroles et par une bonne counduite selon la Volonté du Père.

Monday of the Holy Week

Let us follow the Lord faithfully and listen to all that He will tell us during this holy week. Let us perfume ourselves with good words and good behavior according to the will of the Father.

Homélie

Nous cherchons un roi tout puissant qui va rétablir sa royauté en détruisant toutes les autres. Voilà le prophète nous présente un roi totalement différent « J'ai présenté mon dos à ceux qui me frappaient. ……..Je n'ai pas protégé mon visage des outrages et des crachats. » Comment ce roi peut-t-il nous sauver ? C’est pourquoi dans quelques jours toute la foule qui a crié ‘Hosanna au fils de David ! Béni soit celui qu i vient au nom du Seigneur’, va se disparaître sans laisser aucune trace de sa voix forte.

Le psalmiste nous présente la même crie du Seigneur et celle de tous ceux et celles qui attendent et cherchent encore ce Roi tout puissance qui va revenir pour les sauver. « Mon Dieu, mon Dieu, pourquoi m’as-tu abandonné ? » Avec le palmiste nous crions nous aussi, Mais toi, Seigneur, ne sois pas loin : ô ma force, viens vite à mon aide ! »

Il vient pour nous transformer, de mal au bien, de violence au non violence, de confrontation au dialogue. Aujourd'hui, nous entrons dans la semaine sainte. Nous allons suivre jusqu'à son sacrifice sur la croix. Comprenons bien : C'est notre vie qui est clouée à la croix avec lui. Notre vie avec ses peines, ses souffrances que le Christ a prises sur lui. "C’était nos faiblesses et nos pêchés qu’il portait dans son corps sur le bois". Un jour il a dit qu'il n'y a pas de plus grand amour que de donner sa vie pour ceux qu'on aime. C'est ce don total du Christ que nous allons célébrer tout au long de cette semaine Sainte.

Laissons ces paroles pénétrer profondément en nous. Le Christ appelait ce temps, celui de son baptême, celui de son initiation où son humanité entrait définitivement en Dieu, non pas pour rester portionnaire de la mort mais pour être par amour fontaine de vie nouvelle. Quarante jours de la marche vers la Pâques avec de pénitence, de prière et de jeûne, nous amène devant cet autel pour un sacrifice extraordinaire.

C’est dans la Pâque du Christ que nous apprenons jusqu’où va l’amour de Dieu pour nous. Chacun de nous peut relire sa propre passion en ce contexte d’amour, de vie nouvelle et d’espérance. C’est ainsi que la Passion du Seigneur et la nôtre deviennent présence intérieure de Dieu, et perspective du Royaume de Dieu.

Jésus a eu un mouvement de recul à Gethsémani mais il a continué à avancer. Ne nous étonnons pas si cela nous arrive à nous aussi. Continuer à la route du don est la sagesse que Dieu attend de nous. Que cette semaine sainte soit pour nous d’une semaine de grâce. Amen.

Today with the people of Jerusalem we acclaim for a new King, a long awaited one and with them we seek an all-powerful king in Jesus Christ, who will restore His kingdom, the Kingdom of God, by destroying all others which are manipulating the people of God and the creation in general. To our surprise, the prophet Isaiah presents us a totally different king beyond our wild imagination, "I gave my back to those who beat me . ........ I have not protected my face from insult and spitting . " With our human intelligence we doubt that how this king who is weak and voiceless can save us ? That is why in a few days later the whole crowd who shouted ' Hosanna to the son of David! Blessed is he who cometh in the name of the Lord, ' will disappear without leaving any trace of their acclamation.

The psalmist of the Sunday reading gives us the same cry of this voiceless Lord and that of all those who are awaiting and still seek this King with hope that He will return to save them, we raise our voice with Him "My God, my God , why hast thou forsaken me? " , O Lord, be not far : O my strength , come quickly to my aid ! "

He comes to transform us, by taking in Him all the evil that the human soul can indulge and through His Cross He transforms all in to good , from violence and vengeance He comes to lead us towards non- violence and patience , from willful confrontation and agitation He will teach us to enter in to a healthier dialogue, even with our enemies, from mighty and powerful, He will instruct us to win everyone in silence and through listening.

Today, we enter in to Holy Week, where we are going to follow Jesus, just to His sacrifice on the Cross, from His solemn last meal to the Cross and Death. It is important that we understand it with our human intelligence the divine perspective and the generosity of God to abandon Himself to the injustice willed by His own people whom He loves. In truth, it is our life, which is nailed to the Cross with Him. Our life with its sorrows and sufferings, pains and disappointments, Christ took on Him to transform this human failure and shame in to a divine victory. "It was our weaknesses and sins he carried in His body on the wood " . One day He said that there is no greater love than to lay down his life for his friends . It is this total gift of Christ that we celebrate throughout this Holy Week .

Let these words sink deep within us and shine for others in the house and on the streets. Christ called this time that of his baptism which He once proposed to the sons of Zebedee, that of His initiation where humanity came finally in God , not to stay proportionately to the death but to be in love as a fountain of new life.

Forty days of the march towards Easter with penance , prayer and fasting brings us to the altar for an extraordinary sacrifice, where Jesus offers once and for all, for our sins and sins of the world.
It is in the Passover of Christ that we learn how far God can go to show His loves for us. During these days we are called to read the passion of Christ daily and as many as possible for us. Each of us can read our own passion in this context of love, new life and hope. Thus the Lord's Passion becomes our inner presence of God, and perspective of the kingdom of God.

Even though everything was fore told and Jesus was very much aware of this painful process, which was imperative to save the humanity, it was not easy for Him as human being to accept the pains of others in Himself. Jesus had recoiled in Gethsemane , but He continued to advance, by accepting the will of the Father, as His own. It is not surprising if it happens to us too. After fully aware of everything going to happen, we may be tempted to retire and recluse or reverse our decisions to go forward in life. Continue the path of the gift, received and shared, is the wisdom that God expects of us. Let us remain firm in our engagement towards the social development, the sanctification of the humanity and the salvation of every soul. I wish you all that this Holy Week may be for you all a moment of grace and the fulfillment of the joy that the Lord has promised us during this Lenten season. Amen .

(Jn 11, 45-57)

Quand Lazare fut sorti du tombeau, les nombreux Juifs, qui étaient venus entourer Marie et avaient donc vu ce que faisait Jésus, crurent en lui. Mais quelques-uns allèrent trouver les pharisiens pour leur raconter ce qu'il avait fait. Les chefs des prêtres et les pharisiens convoquèrent donc le grand conseil ; ils disaient :
« Qu'allons-nous faire ? Cet homme accomplit un grand nombre de signes. Si nous continuons à le laisser agir, tout le monde va croire en lui, et les Romains viendront détruire notre Lieu saint et notre nation. »
Alors, l'un d'entre eux, Caïphe, qui était grand prêtre cette année-là, leur dit : « Vous n'y comprenez rien ; vous ne voyez pas quel est votre intérêt : il vaut mieux qu'un seul homme meure pour le peuple, et que l'ensemble de la nation ne périsse pas. »
Ce qu'il disait là ne venait pas de lui-même ; mais, comme il était grand prêtre cette année-là, il fut prophète en révélant que Jésus allait mourir pour la nation. Or, ce n'était pas seulement pour la nation, c'était afin de rassembler dans l'unité les enfants de Dieu dispersés.

A partir de ce jour-là, le grand conseil fut décidé à le faire mourir. C'est pourquoi Jésus ne circulait plus ouvertement parmi les Juifs ; il partit pour la région proche du désert, dans la ville d'Éphraïm où il séjourna avec ses disciples.

Or, la Pâque des Juifs approchait, et beaucoup montèrent de la campagne à Jérusalem pour se purifier avant la fête. Ils cherchaient Jésus et, dans le Temple, ils se disaient entre eux : « Qu'en pensez-vous ? Il ne viendra sûrement pas à la fête ! »
Les chefs des prêtres et les pharisiens avaient donné des ordres : quiconque saurait où il était devait le dénoncer, pour qu'on puisse l'arrêter.

Le message

Nous vivons dans un monde sécularisé et les gens qui nous entourent ne parlent plus ni de Dieu ni sur le sujet sacré. Pourtant il y en a encore quel qu’uns comme nous qui sont fou et restent fidèles à la foi. Le Seigneur viendra-t-il nous sauver ou prendra-t-il encore son temps comme Il l’a fait jadis? Sûrement, Il viendra nous sauver.

Nous entrons à la semaine sainte et le Seigneur nous demande de prier. Priez encore pour que le Seigneur puisse accomplir sa mission pour la sanctification du monde. Il a besoin de nous, et nos prière. Vivre ensembles et prier ensembles est nécessité par notre temps contemporain, qui nous ne liasse aucune option que rester ensembles. Pouvons-nous accompagner le Seigneur en marchant sur son chemin de la Croix?

Gospel text (Jn 11,45-56):

Many of the Jews who had come with Mary believed in Jesus when they saw what He did; but some went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. So the chief priests and the Pharisees called the Sanhedrin Council. They said, «What are we to do? For this man keeps on giving miraculous signs. If we let him go on like this, all the people will believe in him and, as a result of this, the Romans will come and sweep away our Holy Place and our nation». Then one of them, Caiaphas, who was High Priest that year, spoke up, «You know nothing at all nor do you see clearly what you need. It is better to have one man die for the people than to let the whole nation be destroyed». In saying this Caiaphas did not speak for himself, but being High Priest that year, he foretold as a prophet that Jesus would die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but also to gather into one the scattered children of God. So, from that day on, they were determined to kill him.

Because of this, Jesus no longer moved about freely among the Jews. He withdrew instead to the country near the wilderness and stayed with his disciples in a town called Ephraim. The Passover of the Jews was at hand and people from everywhere were coming to Jerusalem to purify themselves before the Passover. They looked for Jesus and as they stood in the Temple, they talked with one another, «What do you think? Will He come to the festival?». Meanwhile the chief priests and the elders had given orders that anyone who knew where he was should let them know so that they could arrest him.

The message

The society is fully divided on Jesus. There are people who long to see Him and there are the elites in the society who search all means possible to eliminate Him. In this divided and polarized situation, will the Lord favor with His apparition to console the group which is longing to meet Him, or He will retire from the public apparition because of the division and opposition? Saint John assures us that He will come to save the world, to unite everyone and to bring the eternal peace to the hearts of the people who still search for Him.

Let us learn from Him positively to have the courage to face such situation and let us learn equally from His oppressors, what is not to be done.

(Jn 10, 31-42)

Les Juifs allèrent de nouveau chercher des pierres pour lapider Jésus.
Celui-ci prit la parole : « J'ai multiplié sous vos yeux les œuvres bonnes de la part du Père. Pour laquelle voulez-vous me lapider ? »
Les Juifs lui répondirent : « Ce n'est pas pour une œuvre bonne que nous voulons te lapider, c'est parce que tu blasphèmes : tu n'es qu'un homme, et tu prétends être Dieu. »
Jésus leur répliqua : « Il est écrit dans votre Loi : J'ai dit : Vous êtes des dieux.
Donc, ceux à qui la parole de Dieu s'adressait, la Loi les appelle des dieux ; et l'Écriture ne peut pas être abolie.
Or, celui que le Père a consacré et envoyé dans le monde, vous lui dites : 'Tu blasphèmes', parce que j'ai dit : Je suis le Fils de Dieu.
Si je n'accomplis pas les œuvres de mon Père, continuez à ne pas me croire.
Mais si je les accomplis, quand bien même vous refuseriez de me croire, croyez les œuvres. Ainsi vous reconnaîtrez, et de plus en plus, que le Père est en moi, et moi dans le Père. »
Les Juifs cherchaient de nouveau à l'arrêter, mais il leur échappa.

Il repartit pour la Transjordanie, à l'endroit où Jean avait commencé à baptiser. Et il y demeura.
Beaucoup vinrent à lui en déclarant : « Jean n'a pas accompli de signe ; mais tout ce qu'il a dit au sujet de celui-ci était vrai. »
Et à cet endroit beaucoup crurent en lui.

Le message

Jésus nous aide à lui comprendre. Nous devons humblement accepter qu’il est difficile de lui comprendre, mais selon Jésus, en regardant ses œuvres nous pouvons facilement lui comprendre et aussi son amour et sa compassion for the humanité.

Jésus nous affirme que nous sommes les enfants de Dieu. C’est dans cette affinité qu’on est demandé d’agir. Vivre une vie qui ressemble celle de Dieu, est un appel divin que l’homme par sa propre nature ne doit jamais refuser.

Gospel text (Jn 10,31-42):

The Jews then picked up stones to throw at him; so Jesus said, «I have openly done many good works among you which the Father gave me to do. For which of these do you stone me?». The Jews answered, «We are not stoning you for doing a good work but for insulting God; you are only a man and you make yourself God». Then Jesus replied, «Is this not written in your Law: I said: you are gods? So those who received this word of God were called gods and the Scripture is always true. Then what should be said of the one anointed and sent into the world by the Father? Am I insulting God when I say: ‘I am the Son of God’? If I am not doing the works of my Father, do not believe me. But if I do them, even if you have no faith in me, believe because of the works I do, and know that the Father is in me and I in the Father». Again they tried to arrest him, but Jesus escaped from their hands. He went away again to the other side of the Jordan, to the place where John had baptized, and there he stayed. Many people came to him and said, «John showed no miraculous signs, but he spoke of this man and everything he said was true». And many became believers in that place.

The message

The more we get close to the holy week, the more the confusion on Jesus’ identity make the centre of religious people’s worry. Jesus is orienting them towards a vision simply human, because they were incapable of understanding the divine mysteries. He is inviting them to look at least His actions, all the good work He has done amidst them. Sadly, people’s memory is very short lived and they refuse to look at the right side.

If we refuse to look at the right side, we may make the same blunders in our daily life. Jesus is telling us that we are children of God and He is inviting us to live a life which merit being so. Right thinking and looking towards the right direction is very important for every human relation, including the divine relationship. It is in this perspective that we will be able to see God’s presence in Jesus, the presence of divine being hidden in human being. When this world will learn to look rightly and towards the right direction?

(Jn 8, 51-59)

Jésus disait aux Juifs : « Amen, amen, je vous le dis : si quelqu'un reste fidèle à ma parole, il ne verra jamais la mort. »
Les Juifs lui dirent : « Nous voyons bien maintenant que tu es un possédé. Abraham est mort, les prophètes aussi, et toi, tu dis : 'Si quelqu'un reste fidèle à ma parole, jamais il ne connaîtra la mort.' Es-tu donc plus grand que notre père Abraham ? Il est mort, et les prophètes aussi. Qui donc prétends-tu être ? »
Jésus répondit : « Si je me glorifie moi-même, ma gloire n'est rien ; c'est mon Père qui me glorifie, lui que vous appelez votre Dieu, alors que vous ne le connaissez pas. Mais moi, je le connais, et, si je dis que je ne le connais pas, je serai un menteur, comme vous. Mais je le connais, et je reste fidèle à sa parole. Abraham votre père a tressailli d'allégresse dans l'espoir de voir mon Jour. Il l'a vu, et il a été dans la joie. »
Les Juifs lui dirent alors : « Toi qui n'as pas cinquante ans, tu as vu Abraham ! »
Jésus leur répondit : « Amen, amen, je vous le dis : avant qu'Abraham ait existé, moi, JE SUIS. »
Alors ils ramassèrent des pierres pour les lui jeter. Mais Jésus, en se cachant, sortit du Temple.

Le message

Le people de Jérusalem trouva difficile de comprendre tout ce que le Seigneur leur a dit sur sa relation avec son Père. Humainement parlant, il n’est pas possible de la comprendre. Nous avons besoin de grâce de Dieu, car c’est un mystère. Grâce à cette révélation, aujourd’hui nous arrivons à comprendre par un langage relationnel, l’amour divin dont Jésus nous invite à participer.

Jésus nous affirme que nous avons besoin de lui pour comprendre le Père, le seul qui est capable d’en nous expliquer. Si nous le rejeton, nous rejetterons le Père qui l’a envoyé. En approchant la semaine sainte, Jean nous met en lumière, la divinité de Jésus, un Don immesurable que Dieu nous offre en Jésus Christ.

Gospel text (Jn 8,51-59):

Jesus said to the Jews, «Truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never experience death». The Jews replied, «Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died and the prophets as well, but you say: ‘Whoever keeps my word will never experience death’. Who do you claim to be? Do you claim to be greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets also died». Then Jesus said, «If I were to praise myself, it would count for nothing. But he who gives glory to me is the Father, the very one you claim as your God, although you don't know him. I know him and if I were to say that I don't know him, I would be a liar like you. But I know him and I keep his word. As for Abraham, your ancestor, he looked forward to the day when I would come; and he rejoiced when he saw it». The Jews then said to him, «You are not yet fifty years old and you have seen Abraham?». And Jesus said «Truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.». They then picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and left the Temple.

The message

Saint John is presenting to us the divinity of Jesus and indirectly reminds us the importance of God’s gift to the humanity. Jesus speaks of His relationship with the Father and of His existence even before Abraham that the people of Israel consider as their father.

The message is very clear. We need God’s grace to understand this mystery of divine relationship that the people of Israel find very difficult to understand. Church is of form conviction that without Jesus, we can never <know the Father, and our salvation is always in and through Jesus. The only way to understand the Father is, to understand Jesus. Let us get closer to Jesus to understand the Father and His immense love for the humanity.
