Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Jean

(Jn 20, 2-8)

Le matin de Pâques, Marie Madelaine courut trouver Simon-Pierre et l'autre disciple, celui que Jésus aimait, et elle leur dit : « On a enlevé le Seigneur de son tombeau, et nous ne savons pas où on l'a mis. »
Pierre partit donc avec l'autre disciple pour se rendre au tombeau. Ils couraient tous les deux ensemble, mais l'autre disciple courut plus vite que Pierre et arriva le premier au tombeau. En se penchant, il voit que le linceul est resté là ; cependant il n'entre pas. Simon-Pierre, qui le suivait, arrive à son tour. Il entre dans le tombeau, et il regarde le linceul resté là, et le linge qui avait recouvert la tête, non pas posé avec le linceul, mais roulé à part à sa place.
C'est alors qu'entra l'autre disciple, lui qui était arrivé le premier au tombeau. Il vit, et il crut.

Le message

« Il vit, et il crut » Tous ont vu le tombeau qui était vide, mais Jean était la seule personne qui était capable de voir dans ce vide, les signes de l’espérance, les signes de la résurrection, la présence du Seigneur et la Vie. Tous ont reconnu l’absence du Seigneur, mais Jean a vu la présence du Seigneur.

Ce jour de la fête de saint Jean, nous demandons au Seigneur, ce regard de foi. N’oublions pas ce que c’était Marie Madeline qui annonce dans son témoignage la résurrection du Seigneur. Tous les deux Marie Madelaine ont aimé le Seigneur. C’est dans cet amour humain que nous pouvons aller à la rencontre de l’amour divin.

Gospel text (Jn 20,2-8):

On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala ran to Peter and the other disciple whom Jesus loved. And she said to them, «They have taken the Lord out of the tomb and we don't know where they have laid him». Peter then set out with the other disciple to go to the tomb. They ran together but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent down and saw the linen cloths lying flat, but he did not enter. Then Simon Peter came following him and entered the tomb; he, too, saw the linen cloths lying flat. The napkin, which had been around his head was not lying flat like the other linen cloths but lay rolled up in its place. Then the other disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in; he saw and believed.

The message

“He saw and believed”. All of them went to the tomb and saw that it was empty. It is in this emptiness that John saw the signs of hope and resurrection. It is in this absence that he saw the presence of the resurrected one and the Life, eternal Life. Everyone has accepted that the tomb was empty and only John had the eyes to see beyond, the invisible: the resurrection.

The incarnation evidently leads us to the resurrection and it is right that we celebrate the feast of saint John immediately after the feast of Christ, the Word became Flesh.

It is important to note that Mary of Magdlala and John were filled with Love. It is in this human love they have discovered the divine love.

Oui ! Un enfant nous est né, un fils nous a été donné ; l'insigne du pouvoir est sur son épaule ; on proclame son nom : « Merveilleux-Conseiller, Dieu-Fort, Père-à-jamais, Prince-de-la-Paix ». C’est dans cette joie que nous nous sommes réunis et nous célébrons Noël avec la famille. Comme les bergers d’Israël nous disons ensemble, « Allons donc jusqu’à Bethlehem et voyons ce qui est arrivé.

Avec l’immense cortège des anges du ciel, nous entendons les chants des anges et nous chantons un chant nouveau, un chant plein d’amour et plein de reconnaissance. Gloire à Dieu, au plus haut des cieux, paix sur la terre aux hommes qu’il aime.

Comme Marie, nous croyons à la providence du Seigneur. La fête de Noël, nous rappelle cette proximité de Dieu. L’incarnation est un cadeau si précieux que Dieu nous offre aujourd’hui que l’homme n’arrive pas à comprendre ce choix de Dieu, le mystère de l’incarnation dans la pauvreté et dans la faiblesse.

Pour comprendre ce mystère saint Hippolyte de Rome nous donne un très bon conseil, « ne voyons pas selon notre propre choix, ni d’après notre propre intelligence, ………. mais de la façon que lui-même a voulu indiquer par les sainte Ecritures. Nous devons écouter dans l’humilité cette Parole de la joie et du bonheur. C’est dans cette écoute et dans cette recherche pour la vérité que nous pouvons rencontrer le Messie dans cet enfant qui est faible et qui a besoin de notre soutient. Pour tout comprendre nous avons besoin d’un regard de foi, un regard divin.

L’incarnation est un commencement d’une nouvelle création, où le monde se trouve devant un Dieu qui nous aime. « Il a tellement aimé le monde qu’il nous a envoyé son Fils, ce n’est pas pour nous juger, mais par lui que le monde soit sauver », nous dit saint Jean. « Célébrons dans la joie l’avènement de notre salut et notre rédemption » nous dit saint Augustin.

Saint Paul nous a dit que l’incarnation est la manifestation de la gloire de Dieu. Dieu se révèle dans la faiblesse et dans la pauvreté des hommes. Il est né dans une mangeoire, seul avec Marie et Joseph. Même dans cette solitude, il est très proche à la création, dehors de la maison, car il n’y a pas de place. Mes amis, nous devons ouvrir la porte d’entrée de nos maisons, nos richesses et nos cœurs aux besoins des autres. C’est ainsi que nous pourrions l’accueillir dans la maison et dans nos cœurs.

Les anges du Seigneur annonce la Bonne Nouvelle aux bergers qui veillent, protègent et prient pour ses brebis. Les anges leurs assurent et aujourd’hui ils nous assurent en disant « n’ayez pas peur ». Peur de quitter nos habitudes, des lieux de sécurité, peur d’avenir, de violences et de souffrance. Il est avec nous, le Seigneur de l’univers. Avec lui, nous pouvons tout avoir. Dans cette célébration de l’Eucharistie, nous allons à la rencontre d’enfant mailloté. Les anges nous accompagnent et ils nous proclament, « Aujourd'hui vous est né un Sauveur, dans la ville de David. Il est le Messie, le Seigneur. » Amen.

Yes ! A child is born to us, a son is given to us and dominion is on his shoulder , and his name is proclaimed : " Wonderful Counsellor , Mighty God, Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace " . It is this joy that we are here and we celebrate Christmas with the family. Like the shepherds of Israel we say together, " Let's go to Bethlehem and see what happened .

With the huge procession of angels in heaven we hear the songs of the angels and we join them singing a new song , full of love and full of gratitude. Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace to men of good .

Like Mary, we believe in the Lord's providence . On the feast of Christmas, we remember that closeness of God, a God who is with us. The incarnation is so precious gift that God offers us today that the man does not understand this choice of God , the mystery of the Incarnation in poverty and weakness.
To understand this mystery St. Hippolytus of Rome gives us very good advice , " do not see at our discretion , or according to our own intelligence .......... but the way that he wanted to be specified by the Holy Scriptures. We must listen to the Word in humility, with joy and happiness. It is in this listening and in this search for the truth that we can meet the Messiah in the child who is weak and in need of our support . To understand this great mystery we need the eyes of faith , a divine look.

The incarnation is a beginning of a new creation, where the world is face to face with a God who loves us. "He so loved the world that He sent us His Son, it is not for us to judge, but through him the world might be saved ," says John. "Let us Celebrate with joy in the incarnation of our salvation and redemption " says St. Augustine.

Saint Paul tells us that the incarnation is the manifestation of the glory of God. God is revealed in weakness and poverty of men. He was born in a manger, alone with Mary and Joseph. Even in this loneliness, He is very close to the creation, outside the house , because there is no place . My friends, we need to open the front door of our homes , our wealth and our hearts to the needs of others. Thus we could accommodate the child Jesus in the house and in our hearts.

The angels of the Lord proclaims the Good News to the shepherds watching , protecting and praying for the sheep. The r angels assure them and today they assure us saying " do not be afraid ." Afraid to leave our habits , be displaced of the places of safety , fear of future, the violence in our society and suffering. He is with us , the Lord of the universe. With Him and in Him, we have it all. In this celebration of the Eucharist, we are going to meet the little new born child. Angels accompany us and they proclaim, "Today is born to you a Savior, in the city of David . He is the Messiah , the Lord . " Amen .

The day mass

The earth have seen the Savior that God gives us . Yesterday we celebrated Christmas with the faithful and today we meditate and we marvel at the mystery of the incarnation. The Word made flesh. Why God made this choice, and this choice of God is incomprehensible to human intelligence.
The incarnation makes us worthy to reborn in God, as Jesus intended. It is in this new birth that man can find his salvation . God emptied Himself , took our flesh, to become one of us by which He raises human being in his original state of creation, thus He make man to participate in his holiness in its fullness.

Through this incarnation the all powerful God reminds us that He needs Mary, a human cooperation for the fulfillment of the promise made to our father Abraham. It is this cooperation that man can participate in God's mission . In Jesus we are invited to participate in the fulfillment of God's plan .

John in his gospel assures us , "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not stop . " Yet he continues to say , " He came unto His own , and His own did not receive Him. " . Unfortunately there was only one Mary, who was able to identify and answer to the call of God positively. We need many such Marys to tell the Lord "YES ", a definitive yes to be with him until the end of the world.

It is in Jesus Christ we discover a God , who is so close, a God who understands us perfectly , a God who loves us. It is in this divine love that God invites us to share . Christmas is a perfect sharing where God made ​​man to participate in his divinity. God made man in Jesus .

Before each divine intervention in the old testament was deadly where man even dared not look at God. There was fear, fear of dying. The first message that the angels communicated to the shepherds of Israel was, " " Fear not , for behold I bring you good news of great joy for all the people : to you is born a Savior , in the city of David . He is the Messiah , the Lord . "

My bothers and sisters today is a day of celebration , a festival of light . Saint Paul tells us that we are children of light. We must live in the light. The Christmas celebration removes any kind of darkness in our lives. He is with us , the Lord of light. "Yes ! (Lc 1, 67-79)

À la naissance de Jean Baptiste, Zacharie, son père, fut rempli de l'Esprit Saint et prononça ces paroles prophétiques :

« Béni soit le Seigneur, le Dieu d'Israël, parce qu'il a visité son peuple pour accomplir sa libération.

Dans la maison de David, son serviteur, il a fait se lever une force qui nous sauve.

C'est ce qu'il avait annoncé autrefois par la bouche de ses saints prophètes :

le salut qui nous délivre de nos adversaires, des mains de tous nos ennemis.

Il a montré sa miséricorde envers nos pères, il s'est rappelé son Alliance sainte :

il avait juré à notre père Abraham qu'il nous arracherait aux mains de nos ennemis,

et nous donnerait de célébrer sans crainte notre culte devant lui, dans la piété et la justice, tout au long de nos jours.

Et toi, petit enfant,on t'appellera prophète du Très-Haut, car tu marcheras devant le Seigneur pour lui préparer le chemin, pour révéler à son peuple qu'il est sauvé, que ses péchés sont pardonnés.

Telle est la tendresse du cœur de notre Dieu ; grâce à elle, du haut des cieux, un astre est venu nous visiter ;

il est apparu à ceux qui demeuraient dans les ténèbres et dans l'ombre de la mort, pour guider nos pas sur le chemin de la paix. »

Le message

Zacharie, qui n’a pas cru à la Parole de Dieu, celui aujourd’hui proclame comme Marie sa louange et son chat d’action de grâce.

Il a reconnu en son fils, un prophète qui va préparer le chemin du Seigneur. Poussé par l’Esprit Saint il annonce la tendresse du cœur de Dieu, un Dieu qui nous aime.

Ce soir nous allons veiller, prier, et célébrer. Que cette parole de Zacharie rayonne dans nos pensés et que nous célébrerions la fête dans la joie et dans la paix.

Gospel text (Lc 1,67-79):

Zechariah, filled with holy spirit, sang this canticle, «Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has come and redeemed his people. He has raised up for us a victorious Savior in the house of David his servant, as he promised through his prophets of old, salvation from our enemies and from the hand of our foes. He has shown mercy to our fathers and remembered his holy covenant, the oath he swore to Abraham, our father, to deliver us from the enemy, that we might serve him fearlessly as a holy and righteous people all the days of our lives. And you, my child, shall be called prophet of the Most High, for you shall go before the Lord to prepare the way for him and enable his people to know of their salvation when he comes to forgive their sins. This is the work of the mercy of our God, who comes from on high as a rising sun shining on those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, and guiding our feet into the way of peace».

The message

Today after the birth of his son, Zachariah proclaims the glory of God. He is able to understand the marvelous work of God for him and also to the people of Israel. He is inviting us to do the same.

He is leading us to the future and asking us to prepare the way for the little Jesus who is to born today night in our heart.

He is reminding us that the oath and alliance that God has made to Abraham is still valid and God hasn’t forgotten us. It is in this sentiment of gratitude that we celebrate the birth of Jesus and there is joy of being able to conceive Him in our hearts.

Let us not waste our time in the material preparations, but allot little attention to the spiritual readiness to welcome Him.

(Lc 1, 57-66)

Quand arriva le moment où Élisabeth devait enfanter, elle mit au monde un fils. Ses voisins et sa famille apprirent que le Seigneur lui avait prodigué sa miséricorde, et ils se réjouissaient avec elle. Le huitième jour, ils vinrent pour la circoncision de l'enfant. Ils voulaient le nommer Zacharie comme son père.

Mais sa mère déclara : « Non, il s'appellera Jean. »

On lui répondit : « Personne dans ta famille ne porte ce nom-là ! »

On demandait par signes au père comment il voulait l'appeler. Il se fit donner une tablette sur laquelle il écrivit : « Son nom est Jean. » Et tout le monde en fut étonné. À l'instant même, sa bouche s'ouvrit, sa langue se délia : il parlait et il bénissait Dieu.

La crainte saisit alors les gens du voisinage, et dans toute la montagne de Judée on racontait tous ces événements. Tous ceux qui les apprenaient en étaient frappés et disaient : « Que sera donc cet enfant ? » En effet, la main du Seigneur était avec lui.

Le message

Cette semaine de joie, l’évangile nous raconte la naissance de Jean Baptiste, un moment de bonheur qui provoque un sentiment de peur et la crainte de Dieu. Ressentons-nous la présence de Dieu dans nos bonheurs quotidiens ?

La famille a reconnu que l’enfant est appartient au Seigneur, celui qui leur avait prodigué sa miséricorde dans cet enfant. Reconnaissons-nous le cadeau si précieux que Dieu nous offre à travers nos frères et sœurs ?

Le choix de nom est signifiant car il porte en lui une histoire, l’histoire de la famille. Jean n’est plus appartient à la famille, il est désormais appartient à Dieu et il est appelé à préparer le Chemin du Seigneur. Quelle est notre mission aujourd’hui ?

Gospel text (Lc 1,57-66):

When the time came for Elizabeth, she gave birth to a son. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the merciful Lord had done a wonderful thing for her and they rejoiced with her. When on the eighth day they came to attend the circumcision of the child, they wanted to name him Zechariah after his father. But his mother said, «Not so; he shall be called John». They said to her, «No one in your family has that name»; and they asked the father by means of signs for the name he wanted to give. Zechariah asked for a writing tablet and wrote on it, «His name is John», and they were very surprised. Immediately Zechariah could speak again and his first words were in praise of God. A holy fear came on all in the neighborhood, and throughout the Hills of Judea the people talked about these events. All who heard of it pondered in their minds and wondered, «What will this child be?». For they understood that the hand of the Lord was with him.

The message

Today’s gospel prepares us to the great feast of Christmas. There is already an ambiance of joy and the fear of God and a feeling of God’s presence. It is exactly what John Baptist is going to announce and by proclaiming the presence of Jesus amidst us that he prepares the way for Christ.

The Holy Father in the last exhortation of ‘the joy of the Gospel’ has called all the Christians to have a personal encounter with Jesus, the source of Christian joy and hope. The Advent time is a time of joyful waiting so that we could have a personal encounter with the child Jesus.

By our way of living and sharing this Joy of being with God that others may see and realize the hand of Lord in us and profit from us the Joy of Christ. Let everyone talk about these wonderful events of divine encounters in the human history and experience the fruit of Joy and peace through these personal divine encounters in their hearts.

(Lc 1, 39-45)

En ces jours-là, Marie se mit en route rapidement vers une ville de la montagne de Judée. Elle entra dans la maison de Zacharie et salua Élisabeth.

Or, quand Élisabeth entendit la salutation de Marie, l'enfant tressaillit en elle. Alors, Élisabeth fut remplie de l'Esprit Saint, et s'écria d'une voix forte : « Tu es bénie entre toutes les femmes, et le fruit de tes entrailles est béni. Comment ai-je ce bonheur que la mère de mon Seigneur vienne jusqu'à moi ? Car, lorsque j'ai entendu tes paroles de salutation, l'enfant a tressailli d'allégresse au-dedans de moi. Heureuse celle qui a cru à l'accomplissement des paroles qui lui furent dites de la part du Seigneur. »

Le message

Marie n’est seulement une femme de contemplation, mais aussi une femme d’action ? La fête de noël s’approche et la rapidité est la nécessité de ces jours, car nous n’avons pas de temps.

Par cette salutation, Marie se présente comme une missionnaire qui met la parole en action. Elle a entendu la bonne nouvelle d’Elizabeth et elle répond positivement non seulement à l’appel de Dieu, mais aussi aux besoins humains. Grâce à son enfant, elle a transformé cette rencontre humaine comme une rencontre divine.

« L’enfant a tressailli d’allégresse » nous dit Elizabeth. Que notre rencontre apporte la même joie au monde et que nous soyons les missionnaires à l’image de la Vierge Marie.

Gospel text (Lc 1,39-45):

Mary then set out for a town in the Hills of Judah. She entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leapt in her womb. Elizabeth was filled with holy spirit, and giving a loud cry, said, «You are most blessed among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb! How is it that the mother of my Lord comes to me? The moment your greeting sounded in my ears, the baby within me suddenly leapt for joy. Blessed are you who believed that the Lord's word would come true!».

The message

Mary has become a missionary who transforms every human encounter as a divine encounter, where people are greeted with immense joy and gratitude. She is very much aware that her boy child is the cause of this joy, well recognized by John Baptist who identified the presence of Christ in this child.

Well said than done when we are challenged with the real situation. The rapidity of Mary and her humility to serve her cousin is purely a human initiative, approved by divine intervention. It’s not human being who gives visible signs of God’s love and compassion to the humanity? Through Mary God reveals to us His compassionate love and His availability to fulfill every human need.

Are we missionaries in the same manner of Mary? Do our missionary activities are closed spiritual fulfillment without looking in to every aspect of human needs? Do our every human encounter produces the same joy of John Baptist? These questions may help us to prepare us in a good direction to welcome the child Jesus in our hearts.

(Lc 1, 26-38)

Au sixième mois d'Élisabeth, l'ange Gabriel fut envoyé par Dieu dans une ville de Galilée, appelée Nazareth, à une jeune fille, une vierge, accordée en mariage à un homme de la maison de David, appelé Joseph ; et le nom de la jeune fille était Marie.

L'ange entra chez elle et dit : « Je te salue, Comblée-de-grâce, le Seigneur est avec toi. »

À cette parole, elle fut toute bouleversée, et elle se demandait ce que pouvait signifier cette salutation.

L'ange lui dit alors : « Sois sans crainte, Marie, car tu as trouvé grâce auprès de Dieu.

Voici que tu vas concevoir et enfanter un fils ; tu lui donneras le nom de Jésus. Il sera grand, il sera appelé Fils du Très-Haut ; le Seigneur Dieu lui donnera le trône de David son père ; il régnera pour toujours sur la maison de Jacob, et son règne n'aura pas de fin. »

Marie dit à l'ange : « Comment cela va-t-il se faire, puisque je suis vierge ? »

L'ange lui répondit : « L'Esprit Saint viendra sur toi, et la puissance du Très-Haut te prendra sous son ombre ; c'est pourquoi celui qui va naître sera saint, et il sera appelé Fils de Dieu. Et voici qu'Élisabeth, ta cousine, a conçu, elle aussi, un fils dans sa vieillesse et elle en est à son sixième mois, alors qu'on l'appelait : 'la femme stérile'. Car rien n'est impossible à Dieu. »

Marie dit alors : « Voici la servante du Seigneur ; que tout se passe pour moi selon ta parole. »
Alors l'ange la quitta.

Le message

Marie, qui attendait le sauveur du monde comme les autres, reçoit une visite exceptionnelle avec un message incompréhensible. Pourtant nous avons une impression comme qu’ils se connaissent déjà. Seulement un homme de Dieu sera capable de reconnaitre la présence de Dieu. Avant qu’elle ne commence à concevoir Jésus dans ses entrailles, elle a portait l’espérance du peuple de Dieu en elle. Dès qu’elle a entendu le message, elle a déjà ressenti le commencement de l’accomplissement de la promesse de Dieu. C’est dans cette espérance qu’elle a pu répondre à l’ange en disant « Voici la servante du Seigneur ; que tout se passe pour moi selon ta parole. » Ressentons-nous la présence de Dieu dans notre vie quotidienne ? Comprenons-nous le message communiqué ? Aujourd’hui sommes-nous capable de dire comme Marie avec conviction et certitude ?

Gospel text (Lc 1,26-38):

In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth. He was sent to a young virgin who was betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the family of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. The angel came to her and said, «Rejoice, full of grace, the Lord is with you».

Mary was troubled at these words, wondering what this greeting could mean. But the angel said, «Do not fear, Mary, for God has looked kindly on you. You shall conceive and bear a son and you shall call him Jesus. He will be great and shall rightly be called Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the kingdom of David, his ancestor; he will rule over the people of Jacob forever and his reign shall have no end».

Then Mary said to the angel, «How can this be if I am a virgin?». And the angel said to her, «The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore, the holy child to be born shall be called Son of God. Even your relative Elizabeth is expecting a son in her old age, although she was unable to have a child, and she is now in her sixth month. With God nothing is impossible». Then Mary said, «I am the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done to me as you have said». And the angel left her.

The message

Mary not even in her wild imagination might have thought the importance of this event. For her it was very simple act of responding to God in a radical and positive way, even if it demands her own life. It is in this simplicity of being available to God and surrendering oneself fully to the will of the Father that this annunciation finds it beauty.

It is today that she comes to know the son of God, but she knew her God already and she was carrying Him in her heart. It is in this proximity she had with God that she was chosen as blessed in the eyes of God and the presence of God was accorded to her. Only the people who live in God will be able to identify the presence of God. Are we able to identify this loving presence of God in us? What is that simple message that we have received from Him for the day? What is our answer to Him?

(Mt 1, 18-24)

Voici quelle fut l'origine de Jésus Christ.

Marie, la mère de Jésus, avait été accordée en mariage à Joseph ; or, avant qu'ils aient habité ensemble, elle fut enceinte par l'action de l'Esprit Saint. Joseph, son époux, qui était un homme juste, ne voulait pas la dénoncer publiquement ; il décida de la répudier en secret. Il avait formé ce projet, lorsque l'ange du Seigneur lui apparut en songe et lui dit : « Joseph, fils de David, ne crains pas de prendre chez toi Marie, ton épouse : l'enfant qui est engendré en elle vient de l'Esprit Saint ; elle mettra au monde un fils, auquel tu donneras le nom de Jésus (c'est-à-dire : Le-Seigneur-sauve), car c'est lui qui sauvera son peuple de ses péchés. »

Tout cela arriva pour que s'accomplît la parole du Seigneur prononcée par le prophète : Voici que la Vierge concevra et elle mettra au monde un fils, auquel on donnera le nom d'Emmanuel, qui se traduit : « Dieu-avec-nous ».

Quand Joseph se réveilla, il fit ce que l'ange du Seigneur lui avait prescrit : il prit chez lui son épouse.

Le message

Ce rêveur dans son silence a accompli la volonté du Père et devient le père adoptif pour le Fils unique. Si Marie est connue pour sa contemplation, Joseph de sa part participe parfaitement à la contemplation et coopère à l’accomplissement de la Parole de Dieu.

Joseph qui est troublé par la mauvaise nouvelle (de Marie qui a conçu de l’Esprit Saint) dans sa sagesse écoute le message de l’ange. Comme lui, nous devons écouter la Parole de Dieu, et le message de la conversion et aussi l’appel à la plénitude de la sainteté. C’est ainsi et aussi par cette écoute et par notre engagement à la volonté du Père que nous pouvons participer à la reconstruction du peuple de Dieu, dont nous le sommes.

Gospel text (Mt 1,18-24):

This is how Jesus Christ was born. Mary his mother had been given to Joseph in marriage but before they lived together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph, her husband, made plans to divorce her in all secrecy. He was an upright man, and in no way did he want to discredit her.

While he was pondering over this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, «Joseph, descendant of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. She has conceived by the Holy Spirit, and now she will bear a son. You shall call him “Jesus” for he will save his people from their sins». All this happened in order to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: «The virgin will conceive and bear a son, and he will be called Emmanuel which means: “God-with-us”». When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had told him to do and he took his wife to his home.

The message

Saint Joseph’s role in the accomplishment of the promise of the Lord though ignored very long years, it has taken a prominent place in our time due to various social factors and in particularly in the family as an institution willed by God in the law of nature. His silence cooperation in the mission of the Father is no lesser than a deep contemplation and a deep God fearing human relationship with God which abides fully to the vocation and mission of the Father.

We are very closely approaching the Christmas celebration and the listening capacity of Saint Joseph, his docility to the word of God, and his truthfulness to the message of the angel, is the need of the time. In these days we are called to listen to the Word of God, meditate on the message communicated and execute the mission as willed by the Father. Saint Joseph is our model to imitate in our preparation to receive Child Jesus in our hearts.

Le message

La généalogie présentée par Mathieu nous oriente vers Jésus, la lumière que le monde a rejetée. Si nous nous engageons fidèlement à une préparation si longue, c’est parce que nous ne souhaitons pas rejeter la lumière qui est venue pour nous éclairer et nous amener vers le Père.

La généalogie nous rappelle l’approche de Noël et nous devons nous préparer pour que l’enfant Jésus trouve une demeure chaleureuse dans nos cœurs. Elle nous fait comprendre que Jésus a bien participé à l’histoire humaine et il l’a transformé. Comme lui, que nous participions à notre histoire pleinement pour que par nous l’histoire actuelle soit transformée comme une histoire du peuple de Dieu, l’histoire du salut.

There were then fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, and fourteen generations from David to the deportation to Babylon, and fourteen generations from the deportation to Babylon to the birth of Christ.

The message

The genealogy of Jesus reminds us of the proximity of the feast of Christmas. Christmas or in particular the incarnation, does tell us Jesus’ participation in the history of humanity and the way He has transformed this history of the humanity in to a salvation history.

Let our preparation of the great feast may help us to participate in our own history fully, by humbly accepting our own failures and human errors committed in the history, to transform it to a dignified manner as a part of salvation history.

Let us start to transform our history by preparing our hearts to welcome the little Jesus in to it and make this His preferred home to stay.

Jésus leur répliqua : « À mon tour, je vais vous poser une seule question ; et si vous me répondez, je vous dirai, moi aussi, par quelle autorité je fais cela : Le baptême de Jean, d'où venait-il ? du ciel ou des hommes ? » Ils faisaient en eux-mêmes ce raisonnement : « Si nous disons : 'Du ciel', il va nous dire : 'Pourquoi donc n'avez-vous pas cru à sa parole ?' Si nous disons : 'Des hommes', nous devons redouter la foule, car tous tiennent Jean pour un prophète. »

Ils répondirent donc à Jésus : « Nous ne savons pas ! » Il leur dit à son tour : « Moi non plus, je ne vous dirai pas par quelle autorité je fais cela. »

Le message

Si nous fermons nos yeux volontairement, nous rejetons la lumière, en choisissant les ténèbres nous vivrons dans la nuit. Il est important de laisser les yeux ouvertes, de regarder les biens qui nous entourent, et écouter les autres. C’est dans ce regard d’amour et dans cette écoute dans l’humilité que nous deviendrons les disciples du Seigneur et ce jour là nous seront capable de comprendre l’origine de l’autorité du Seigneur. Ne refusons pas la grâce qui nous donne le RDV dans la rencontre humaine.

Jesus had entered the Temple and was teaching when the chief priests, the teachers of the Law and the Jewish authorities came to him and asked, «What authority have you to act like this? Who gave you authority to do all this?». Jesus answered them, «I will also ask you a question, only one. And if you give me an answer, then I will tell you by what authority I do these things. When John began to baptize, was it a work of God, or was it merely something human?». They reasoned out among themselves, «If we reply that it was a work of God, he will say: ‘Why, then, did you not believe him?’. And if we say: ‘The baptism of John was merely something human’, beware of the people: since all hold John as a prophet». So they answered Jesus, «We do not know». And Jesus said to them, «Neither will I tell you by what right I do these things».

The message

We have quit a lot of people to ask question. All that we need today is, the people who can answer the question. Jesus hasn’t come to ask question, rather answer our questions and illumine our darkness and ignorance. All that is asked of us is, to be humble and keep our eyes open so that we could see the wonder work of the Lord.

If we keep on asking question, without listening to Him, He may start to ask question and we will be left without word. It is better listen to the life giving Words of the Lord and put in practice all that He will ask us to do. Advent is the opportune time to listen to the Lord. Are we listening?

Ce dimanche de la joie et de la paix, où nous méditons sur le thème, réjouissez vous, car votre Dieu vient vous sauver, il est doublement agréable d’entendre de la bouche du prophète Isaïe cette parole de consolation : « Prenez courage, ne craignez pas. Voici votre Dieu : c'est la vengeance qui vient, la revanche de Dieu. » Cette parole d’espérance nous assure et nous en avons besoin, car le monde est désespérer à cause de violence et les confits que nous témoignons quotidiennement.

Je vous avez dit que l’Avent est un temps d’attente joyeuse, qui nous donne l’espérance et qui nous oriente vers l’avenir. La patience joue un rôle important dans cette attente. Saint Jaques la compare avec un cultivateur qui attend patiemment mais avec sureté, pour le fruit de son travail.

Il est pourtant possible qu’après un bon travail, le fruit n’est pas forcement positive, ou comme nous l’avons attendu. L’évangile du jour nous présente une histoire qui ressemble d’une attente, on dire d'une attente désespérée. Jean Baptiste qui a annoncé une personne plus puissante que lui, voit un homme faible. Il a annoncé un baptême de feu et d’Esprit, alors, cet Homme là ne baptise personne. Aujourd’hui il a le même sentiment ceux de prophète Jonas qui est le nôtre. Nous devons aller vers lui, le seul qui est capable de faire naître en nous l’espérance.

Si nous tournons nos yeux vers lui, il y a une autre expérience qui nous attende. Jésus nous renvoi vers le peuple comme Il l’a fait auparavant aux disciples de Jean Baptiste qui sont venu l’interroger. Il nous invite à nous ouvrir en ouvrant nos yeux et à regarder tout ce qui se passe autour de nous. Il nous invite également à écouter, écouter les autres, les anciens, essentiellement sa Parole, une Parole qui nous donne la vie, la Vie éternelle.

Dimanche dernier nous avons médité sur le thème de conversion. Aujourd’hui, nous sommes nous aussi invités à une conversion du regard et du cœur pour lire les signes de l’action de Dieu en notre monde, conviés à ouvrir nos yeux et nos oreilles pour discerner le Royaume qui est inauguré et qui vient.

C’est dans cette espérance du Royaume de Dieu en faisant confiance au Seigneur que nous nous avançons vers l’avenir. Dans cette attende joyeuse, il y une joie, une joie inépuisable, qui vient du Seigneur. C’est le Seigneur qui nous a promis cette joie, la joie sans fin. Préparons nous et aussi la fête de Noël, et vivons ce temps d’Avent pleinement dans la joie et dans le bonheur, Amen.

The third Sunday of Advent can be called as a Sunday of joy and peace, because todays’s readings are calling us to rejoice, rejoice the Lord is coming to save us. It is doubly pleasant to hear from the prophet Isaiah these words of consolation: "Take courage, fear not . Behold your God : it is in vengeance that comes the revenge of God. " Theses words of hope assure us and we are in need of it today, because the world is in despair because of violence and witnesses different kinds of conflicts daily.

I told you that Advent is a time of joyful expectation , which gives us hope and guides us into the future . Patience plays an important role in this joyful waiting. Saint James compared this joyful wiating with a farmer who waits patiently but with assurance of the fruit of his work.

It is equally possible that after a good job, the result is not necessarily positive , or as good as we expected. The Gospel of the day has a story that looks like a desperate waiting with a failed fruit . John the Baptist who announced a Man more powerful than himself , sees a weak man who is questioned by all the elders of the society . He announced a baptism of fire and of the Spirit, but Jesus hasn’t started to baptize. He is fully confused. Today in this gospel there is more or less the same feeling that of Jonah, who got disappointed after preaching tirelessly. It may be ours too. Just like John Baptist, we should go to him , who alone is able to awaken in us the hope and illumine us with His wisdom.

If we turn our eyes towards him, there is another experience that awaits us . Jesus return us to the people as He did before to the disciples of John the Baptist who came to interrogate him. He invites us to open ourselves by opening our eyes and He is inviting us to watch everything that is happening around us. He invites us to listen , listen to others , elders, mainly his Word, a Word that gives us life , eternal life.

Last Sunday we meditated on the theme of conversion. Today, we are also invited to a conversion of mind and heart to read the signs of the action of God in our world, invited to open our eyes and ears to discern the kingdom which was inaugurated and will come.

It is in this hope of the Kingdom of God and by trusting the Lord that we move into the future. In this joyful expectation , there is a joy, an inexhaustible joy that comes from the Lord . It is the Lord who has promised us this joy , joy without end. Let us prepare ourselves and also the Christmas party, and live this Advent fully in joy and happiness , Amen .
