Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc (Lc 18, 1-8)

Jésus dit une parabole pour montrer à ses disciples qu'il faut toujours prier sans se décourager :
« Il y avait dans une ville un juge qui ne respectait pas Dieu et se moquait des hommes.
Dans cette même ville, il y avait une veuve qui venait lui demander : 'Rends-moi justice contre mon adversaire.' Longtemps il refusa ; puis il se dit : 'Je ne respecte pas Dieu, et je me moque des hommes, mais cette femme commence à m'ennuyer : je vais lui rendre justice pour qu'elle ne vienne plus sans cesse me casser la tête.' »
Le Seigneur ajouta : « Écoutez bien ce que dit ce juge sans justice ! Dieu ne fera-t-il pas justice à ses élus, qui crient vers lui jour et nuit ? Est-ce qu'il les fait attendre ? Je vous le déclare : sans tarder, il leur fera justice. Mais le Fils de l'homme, quand il viendra, trouvera-t-il la foi sur terre ? »

Homélie

« Mais le Fils de l'homme, quand il viendra, trouvera-t-il la foi sur terre ? » Une parole de découragement et désespérément. Devant cet échec quotidien, les lectures du jour nous invitent à la prière, une prière qui nous met en relation avec Dieu, une prière qui nous donne l’espérance, et une prière qui nous nourri notre foi.

C’est dans cette prière que tous les saints du monde ont trouvé leur force et leur énergie apostolique. Ils se nourrissaient par ce bonheur quotidien. C’est dans cette prière qu’ils ont approfondi leur relation d’alliance avec le Seigneur. C’est dans cette prière encore qu’ils ont découvert ce Dieu d’amour et de pardon. Ce Dieu veut que ses fidèles vivent en paix et que la joie éternelle demeure chez-nous. Comment peut-on retrouver ce bonheur et cette joie en dehors du Seigneur ? C’est pourquoi Jésus nous invite à le joindre dans la prière, « il faut toujours prier sans se décourager » nous dit le Seigneur.

Si nous sommes fatigué et découragé, c’est parce que nous ne ressentons pas la présence du Seigneur dans notre vie. Devant les violences et les catastrophes naturelles qui nous agacent habituellement, il y a un vide qui nous dérange et nos prières se tombent dans ces vides. Le Seigneur est-il toujours au milieu de nous ?

Lorsque les doutes nous envahissent, la Parole du Seigneur et les écritures spirituelles peuvent nous aider à retrouver notre foi et notre joie. Saint Paul a donné un très bon conseil à Timothée, « grâce à la Parole du Seigneur inspiré, qui se trouve dans les écritures sacré, l'homme de Dieu sera bien armé, il sera pourvu de tout ce qu'il faut pour faire un bon travail. »

Dans cette parabole du jour, Jésus nous invite à faire confiance en Dieu avec patience et persévérance dans notre prière, comme Moïse. Egalement il aborde aussi, le sujet de la justice, qui est nôtre. La justice sans Charité et patience ne peut pas donner un bon résultat. La patience et la charité de cette femme envers ce juge de la parabole se trouve dans sa propre confiance dans cet homme, qu’il est capable de me faire la justice, même si son comportement était juste au contraire.

Généralement nous disons que Dieu ne m’écoute pas, il ne m’entende pas. En vérité, n’est-ce pas nous qui ne l’écoutons pas ? N’est-ce pas nous qui n’arrivons pas avoir un dialogue avec lui afin que nous puissions de le comprendre ? Ne perdons pas notre confiance en Dieu, ne perdons pas notre courage, et notre foi. C’est Jésus qui nous a promis, « il leur fera justice » mais trouvera-t-il la foi chez-nous ?

Gospel text (Lc 18,1-8):

Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should pray continually and not lose heart. He said, «In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor people. In the same town was a widow who kept coming to him, saying: ‘Defend my rights against my opponent’. For a time he refused, but finally he thought: ‘Even though I neither fear God nor care about people, this widow bothers me so much I will see that she gets justice; then she will stop coming and wearing me out’».

And Jesus explained, «Listen to what the evil judge says. Will God not do justice for his chosen ones who cry to him day and night even if He delays in answering them? I tell you, He will speedily do them justice. Yet, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?».

Homily

Since two Sundays we are meditating about faith and the gospel of the day once again addresses this subject with justice. In this parable Jesus invites us to trust in God with patience and perseverance in prayer, like Moses.

Today, men, women and children cry out to God for justice and mercy. It is the cry of the sick, the persecuted, the hungry, all those who are victims of men , hatred , violence , contempt , divorce and separation without any solution possible. There are many in our society, those who know the misery and suffering, we may be one among them. We are tempted to ask this question habitually in front of many violence and injustice, “does God exists”.

Mother Teresa of Calcutta asked the same question when she saw the poor dying and children abandoned in the street. The gospel of the day is an answer to this question of the presence of God and his justice with charity. If we wish to get an answer, we have go back to the Lord in our prayers. It is in this prayer that Mother Theresa received the answer.

Justice should accompany with charity and patience. Without these the justice will remain incomplete. Patience and perseverance of this woman towards the judge of the parable is born from her own confidence in this man, he is capable of doing justice, even though his behavior was just the opposite. Every human relationship should be build on this foundation of being good and capable of doing good.
Very often we do not have enough patience and very soon we are tempted easily to take violence to respond injustice. Prayer and dialogue are capable of doing miracles in our society. Since we are living in a fast-food culture, the politics of the day is not an exception to this lack of patience on behalf of the democracy and security. It is true that the world does not understand that justice is with charity and patience of God. We wish and pray that our God be a God of mercy when he meets us and desire that He may be a God of justice for others.

Usually we say that God does not listen to me, he does not hear me . It's not that we who refuse to listen to Him? It's not that we do not enter in a healthy dialogue with Him so that we can understand it and love Him? Let us not lose our trust in God, nor lose our courage and our faith. It is Jesus who has promised us , " he will do us justice" but when He comes, will he find faith in us?

(Lc 12, 8-12)

Jésus disait à ses disciples :
« Je vous le déclare : Celui qui se sera prononcé pour moi devant les hommes, le Fils de l'homme se prononcera aussi pour lui devant les anges de Dieu.
Mais celui qui m'aura renié en face des hommes sera renié en face des anges de Dieu.
Et celui qui dira une parole contre le Fils de l'homme, cela lui sera pardonné ; mais si quelqu'un blasphème contre l'Esprit Saint, cela ne lui sera pas pardonné.
Quand on vous traduira devant les synagogues, les puissances et les autorités, ne vous tourmentez pas pour savoir comment vous défendre ou comment parler.
Car l'Esprit Saint vous enseignera à cette heure même ce qu'il faudra dire. »

Le message

Jésus nous assure l’Esprit Saint, qui va nous accompagne sur le chemin de l’annonce de l’évangile. Il nous affirme que notre chemin sera toujours difficile, pourtant avec l’Esprit Saint, nous pouvons confronter le monde qui nous appose.

C’est pourquoi nous avons besoin de nous affirmer que nous sommes toujours avec le Seigneur et dans le Seigneur. C’est dans cette assurance de la présence du Seigneur que nous sommes appelés à annoncer la Bonne Nouvelle.

Est-il possible pour un missionnaire d’être éloigné du Seigneur ? Voilà la logique qui s’applique dans l’enseigneur du Seigneur dans cet évangile du jour.

Gospel text (Lc 12,8-12): Jesus said to his disciples, «I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before people, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God. But the one who denies me before others will be denied before the angels of God. There will be pardon for the one who criticizes the Son of Man, but there will be no pardon for the one who slanders the Holy Spirit.

»When you are brought before the synagogues, governors and rulers, don’t worry about how you will defend yourself or what to say. For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you have to say».

The message

Jesus is reminding us that the witnessing the gospel in our daily life is essential to understand the presence of the Lord and it is very important for all christens to live his or her faith fully.

Jesus doesn’t promise us a life with roses, but He is assuring us that His presence will accompany us and if we allow the Holy Spirit to work in us, He will speak for us and protect us.

It is in this presence of the Lord that we are called to proclaim the Good News and witness His presence in our lives by the love we share with in our community members.

Let us have faith in the Holy Spirit and allow Him to penetrate in the inner most part of our being.

Parmi ses disciples,
le Seigneur en désigna encore soixante-douze, et il les envoya deux par deux devant lui dans toutes les villes et localités où lui-même devait aller. Il leur dit : « La moisson est abondante, mais les ouvriers sont peu nombreux. Priez donc le maître de la moisson d'envoyer des ouvriers pour sa moisson. Allez ! Je vous envoie comme des agneaux au milieu des loups. N'emportez ni argent, ni sac, ni sandales, et ne vous attardez pas en salutations sur la route.
Dans toute maison où vous entrerez, dites d'abord : 'Paix à cette maison.' S'il y a là un ami de la paix, votre paix ira reposer sur lui ; sinon, elle reviendra sur vous. Restez dans cette maison, mangeant et buvant ce que l'on vous servira ; car le travailleur mérite son salaire. Ne passez pas de maison en maison.
Dans toute ville où vous entrerez et où vous serez accueillis, mangez ce qu'on vous offrira. Là, guérissez les malades, et dites aux habitants : 'Le règne de Dieu est tout proche de vous.' »

Le message

Il les envoie deux par deux, c'est-à-dire l’annonce de l’évangile est une affaire communautaire, non pas une affaire personnelle. Même si nous sommes appelés à annoncés la Bonne Nouvelle, nous le faisons au nom de la communauté.

La vocation est pour moissonner tout ce que le Seigneur a semé. La foi est un don donné par le Saint Esprit et nous ne devons que l’annoncer et faire confiance dans la générosité du Seigneur. Puisque nous représentons le Seigneur, que les politesses comme les salutations ne nous préoccupent pas.

On est invité à annoncer la Paix sur la terre, et par la présence de cette Paix que nous allons découvrir le peuple de Dieu. La Paix est un signe de la présence du Seigneur par laquelle le peuple découvrira le règne de Dieu.

Gospel text (Lc 10,1-9): The Lord appointed seventy-two other disciples and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place, where He himself was to go. And He said to them, «The harvest is rich, but the workers are few. So you must ask the Lord of the harvest to send workers to his harvest. Courage! I am sending you like lambs among wolves. Set off without purse or bag or sandals; and do not stop at the homes of those you know.

»Whatever house you enter, first bless them saying: ‘Peace to this house’. If a friend of peace lives there, the peace shall rest upon that person. But if not, the blessing will return to you. Stay in that house eating and drinking at their table, for the worker deserves to be paid. Do not move from house to house. When they welcome you in any town, eat what they offer you. Heal the sick who are there and say to them: ‘The kingdom of God has drawn near to you’».

The message

What a joy to harvest what the Lord has worked for the humanity. He wishes that the community by her witnessing life announces the Good News. The good News is the presence of the Lord and by our presence in the society let the people discover the loving and merciful presence of the Lord.

Since we called and sent by the Lord, it is quite normal and correct that we depend fully in the providence and in the generosity of the Lord. The Lord who has called us will give us all that we are in need to announce the Kingdom of God.

All that we are asked to announce is the Peace, the peace as the fruit of the Kingdom of God. Peace is the external sign of the Kingdom of God. It is precisely because of this symbolic presence of the Peace, that the disciples are asked not to verify the fruit of their works, because those who live in the Lord will accept the Peace proposed and live in Joy and happiness. The rejection of this Peace will be at the dismay of the person who rejects it.

(Lc 11, 47-54)

Jésus disait aux docteurs de la Loi :
« Malheureux êtes-vous, parce que vous bâtissez les tombeaux des prophètes, alors que vos pères les ont tués. Ainsi vous témoignez que vous approuvez les actes de vos pères, puisque eux, ils ont tué les prophètes, et vous, vous bâtissez leurs tombeaux. C'est pourquoi la Sagesse de Dieu elle-même a dit : Je leur enverrai des prophètes et des apôtres, ils tueront les uns et en persécuteront d'autres. Ainsi cette génération devra rendre compte du sang de tous les prophètes qui a été versé depuis la création du monde, depuis le sang d'Abel jusqu'au sang de Zacharie, qui a péri entre l'autel et le sanctuaire. Oui, je vous le déclare : cette génération devra en rendre compte.
Malheureux êtes-vous, docteurs de la Loi, parce que vous avez enlevé la clé de la connaissance ; vous-mêmes n'êtes pas entrés, et ceux qui essayaient d'entrer, vous les en avez empêchés. »
Après que Jésus fut parti de là, les scribes et les pharisiens se mirent à lui en vouloir terriblement, et ils le harcelaient de questions ; ils étaient à l'affût pour s'emparer d'une de ses paroles.

Le message

Dieu nous aime et dans cet amour que nous sommes appelés à témoigner. La foi en Jésus Christ, nous enracine dans cet amour divin et elle nous donne le sens de la vie. Si nous notre vie est remplie de cet amour divin, si elle rende témoignage à cet amour dans ce monde, la société actuelle deviendra un paradis à vivre.

Si Jésus est en colère, c’est parce que les hommes qui sont appelés à témoigner cet amour divin, ont rendu un contre témoignage au nom de la loi divine, manipuler par les hommes.

Les hommes à qui le Seigneur à confié tant de sagesse et d’intelligence ont les garder d’entre eux-mêmes sans les partager avec les autres, en particulier à ceux qui ont besoin de ces informations, les pauvres et les faibles.

La vie donnée et reçue, et qu’elle donne la vie aux autres et qu'elle soit partagée.

Gospel text (Lc 11,47-54):

Jesus said to the Pharisees, «A curse is on you, for you build memorials to the prophets your ancestors killed. So you approve and agree with what your ancestors did. Is it not so? They got rid of the prophets, and now you can build!. The Wisdom of God also said, ‘I will send prophets and apostles and this people will kill and persecute some of them’. But the present generation will have to answer for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the foundation of the world, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was murdered between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, the people of this time will have to answer for them all. A curse is on you, teachers of the Law, for you have taken the key of knowledge. You yourselves have not entered, and you prevented others from entering».

As Jesus left that place, the teachers of the Law and the Pharisees began to harass him, asking him endless questions, setting traps to catch him in something he might say.

The message

Jesus is exceptionally angry once again. His anger is generated by the behavior of the ones who are called to represent the loving image of the Father, who cares and protects His Father. His anger finds its justification in the counter witness of these people whose hearts are filled with evil thoughts and malice.

The situation of the time of Jesus does continue in our own time, but in a manner totally different. God has entrusted some people with lots of talents and gifts, so that His people may profit. The rich and the powerful manipulate this wisdom as a private property in the name paten and rights, keep it unreachable to the common people, especially those who are in need of theses information, in name of protecting the world.

These people with lots of intelligence and knowledge do pose lots of question, in the name of laws and regulations, formulated by them, for their own favor to the innocents and poor and to the various NGOs who work for a balanced development of the society.

Jesus is taking position and asking us to do the same and fight for the equilibrium of the creation as a whole.

(Lc 11, 27-28)

Comme Jésus était en train de parler, une femme éleva la voix au milieu de la foule pour lui dire : « Heureuse la mère qui t'a porté dans ses entrailles, et qui t'a nourri de son lait ! »
Alors Jésus lui déclara : « Heureux plutôt ceux qui entendent la parole de Dieu, et qui la gardent ! »

Le message

Jésus nous affirme que si sa mère est heureuse et bénie de Dieu, ce n’est seulement parce qu’elle est sa mère, mais parce qu’elle a entendu la Parole de Dieu et elle a dit OUI à l’ange qui lui annonça la bonne nouvelle. Jésus nous assure que sa Mère est heureuse parce qu’elle est bénie. Elle a pu dire ‘que Ta volonté soit faite. » Combien d’entre nous sommes capable de pouvoir dire au Seigneur, tout le temps de notre vie ‘que Ta volonté soit faite.’ ? Elle est notre modèle et marchons sur les pas de la Vierge Marie afin que notre vie soit d’une vie heureuse celle qui la ressemble.

Gospel text (Lc 11,27-28):

As Jesus was speaking, a woman spoke from the crowd and said to him, «Blessed is the one who bore you and nursed you!». Jesus replied, «Surely blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it as well».

The message

This innocent lady witnesses what she has seen in reality, the way human being measure the happiness or pride of a mother, but Jesus is taking her further towards the invisible, mystical aspect of His mother, the Truth behind her happiness, as seen by Mary and Jesus. Her faithfulness to the Word of God and her fidelity to the ‘YES’ pronounced to the angel of the Lord, have given her immense happiness and pride, which made her humble and gentile before the mystery of revelation in her own Son.

Let us listen the Word of the Lord, be faithful to the promise we have given in our baptism, and live our lives according the value system of the Lord, then we will have the same happiness of the mother of Jesus. Lord wishes that we should be happy et let us be happy.

(Lc 11, 15-26)

Comme Jésus avait expulsé un démon, certains se mirent à dire : « C'est par Béelzéboul, le chef des démons, qu'il expulse les démons. »
D'autres, pour le mettre à l'épreuve, lui réclamaient un signe venant du ciel.
Jésus, connaissant leurs intentions, leur dit : « Tout royaume divisé devient un désert, ses maisons s'écroulent les unes sur les autres.
Si Satan, lui aussi, est divisé, comment son royaume tiendra-t-il ? Vous dites que c'est par Béelzéboul que j'expulse les démons. Et si c'est par Béelzéboul que moi, je les expulse, vos disciples, par qui les expulsent-ils ? C'est pourquoi ils seront eux-mêmes vos juges.
Mais si c'est par le doigt de Dieu que j'expulse les démons, c'est donc que le règne de Dieu est survenu pour vous.
Quand l'homme fort et bien armé garde son palais, tout ce qui lui appartient est en sécurité.
Mais si un plus fort intervient et triomphe de lui, il lui enlève l'équipement de combat qui lui donnait confiance, et il distribue tout ce qu'il lui a pris.
Celui qui n'est pas avec moi est contre moi ; celui qui ne rassemble pas avec moi disperse.
Quand l'esprit mauvais est sorti d'un homme, il parcourt les terres desséchées en cherchant un lieu de repos. Et comme il n'en trouve pas, il se dit : 'Je vais retourner dans ma maison, d'où je suis sorti.'
En arrivant, il la trouve balayée et bien rangée.
Alors, il s'en va, et il prend sept autres esprits encore plus mauvais que lui, ils y entrent, et ils s'y installent. Ainsi, l'état de cet homme est pire à la fin qu'au début. »

Le message

« Celui qui n'est pas avec moi est contre moi ; celui qui ne rassemble pas avec moi disperse. » D’être avec le Seigneur, c’est d’être uni avec le Seigneur, dans nos pensé, dans nos comportements et de la manière de vivre notre vie. Nous ne pouvons pas d’être avec lui partiellement, soit on est avec lui, soit on est contre lui.

Comment pouvons-nous savoir si nous sommes avec lui ?, c’est par le regard que nous avons. Si notre regard est rempli de l’amour et du pardon, si nous arrivions regarder le bon côté de la vie, si nous tentions de comprendre les autres, nous pouvons nous assurer que nous avons le regard de Dieu. Dans ce regard il n’y a pas de jugement, mais une acceptation de l’autre tel qu’il est ou telle qu’elle est.

Devant d’une telle accusation non justifiable qui est né d’une jalousie profonde, Jésus nous apprend à nous défendre avec la tolérance et le dialogue, même avec notre adversaire et nos ennemies. Il est possible de vivre d’une vie sain en pleine dialogue, même si on est entouré par la violence et l’intolérance.

Gospel text (Lc 11,15-26):

As Jesus was casting out a devil some of the people said, «He drives out demons by the power of Beelzebul, the chief of the demons». So others wanted to put him to the test by asking him for a heavenly sign.

But Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, «Every nation divided by civil war is on the road to ruin, and will fall. If Satan also is divided, his empire is coming to an end. How can you say that I drive out demons by calling upon Beelzebul? If I drive them out by Beelzebul, by whom do your fellow members drive out demons? They will be your judge, then. But suppose I drive out demons by the finger of God; would not this mean that the kingdom of God has come upon you?

»As long as the strong and armed man guards his house, his goods are safe. But when a stronger one attacks and overcomes him, the challenger takes away all the weapons he relied on and disposes of his spoils. Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me, scatters. When the evil spirit goes out of a person, it wanders through dry lands looking for a resting place. And finding none, it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came’. When it comes, it finds the house swept and everything in order. Then it goes to fetch seven other spirits even worse than itself. They move in and settle there, so that the last state of that person is worse than the first».

The message

“Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me, scatters.” We have to assure ourselves, if we are with the Lord or against Him. If we are with the Lord, we should have to look everything with the eyes of the Lord, with love and patience, with forgiveness and gentleness, even if we are tempted with false accusation, like the story in today’s gospel.

Jesus is teaching us to take position without judging others, even if they are at fault. The temptation in life to chose always what pleases us and what we like is quit alarming. We have fight against this temptation every day, otherwise, the next day will be worst than before. To have this combating spirit, we have to root ourselves in Jesus Christ and be with Him always. If we don’t gather with Him, we scatter, says the Lord.

Jésus leur dit encore : « Supposons que l'un de vous ait un ami et aille le trouver en pleine nuit pour lui demander : 'Mon ami, prête-moi trois pains : un de mes amis arrive de voyage, et je n'ai rien à lui offrir.'
Et si, de l'intérieur, l'autre lui répond : 'Ne viens pas me tourmenter ! Maintenant, la porte est fermée ; mes enfants et moi, nous sommes couchés. Je ne puis pas me lever pour te donner du pain',
moi, je vous l'affirme : même s'il ne se lève pas pour les donner par amitié, il se lèvera à cause du sans-gêne de cet ami, et il lui donnera tout ce qu'il lui faut.
Eh bien, moi, je vous dis : Demandez, vous obtiendrez ; cherchez, vous trouverez ; frappez, la porte vous sera ouverte.
Celui qui demande reçoit ; celui qui cherche trouve ; et pour celui qui frappe, la porte s'ouvre.
Quel père parmi vous donnerait un serpent à son fils qui lui demande un poisson ?
ou un scorpion, quand il demande un œuf ?
Si donc vous, qui êtes mauvais, vous savez donner de bonnes choses à vos enfants, combien plus le Père céleste donnera-t-il l'Esprit Saint à ceux qui le lui demandent ! »

Le message

Dieu qui nous aime ne peut pas nous ignorer. Si nous sommes fidèles à son commandement de l’amour et persévère dans notre confiance au Seigneur, nous goûterons la générosité du Père qui est infiniment bon.

Il est possible que l’homme soit fatigué très vite de la manière que Dieu agit. Mais il oublie que Dieu n’agit pas comme les hommes, car Dieu sait nos besoins beaucoup mieux que nous-mêmes.

Nous devons humblement accepter que nos demandes ne soient pas toujours justes et bien appropriées. Puisque nous ne connaissons pas Dieu et sa volonté, nous n’arrivons pas articuler nos besoins. Pourtant Dieu ne s’arrête pas de nous aider, de donner et de nous aimer.

Jesus said to his disciples, «Suppose one of you has a friend and goes to his house in the middle of the night and says: ‘Friend, lend me three loaves, for a friend of mine who is traveling has just arrived and I have nothing to offer him’. Maybe your friend will answer from inside: ‘Don't bother me now; the door is locked and my children and I are in bed, so I can't get up and give you anything’. But I tell you, even though he will not get up and attend to you because you are a friend, yet he will get up because you are a bother to him, and he will give you all you need.

»And so I say to you, Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you. For the one who asks receives, and the one who searches finds, and to him who knocks the door will be opened. If your child asks for a fish, will you give a snake instead? And if your child asks for an egg, will you give a scorpion? Even you evil people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more then will the Father in heaven give holy spirit to those who ask him!».

The message

The perseverance in prayer is born of our confidence in the providence of the Lord. If the man in the gospel continued to knock at the door, there are two reasons behind of this perseverance, the first is that his friend has something to offer and the second is that the surety of his friend’s response. If we are tired of our prayers, we often lose heart and we don’t sufficiently believe that the Lord will respond to him.

If we feel that our prayers are not heard there are two possibilities. The first one is that our prayers are not a dialogue, but monologue based on egoistic and individualistic approaches, which are against our own well being and against the will of the Father. The second possibility is that we have already received what we ask for, but we don’t perceive or realize the gifts we have received from the Lord.

In any case, Jesus affirms us that God is our Father who loves and cares us. He will be always with us and we can have confidence in the providence of the Lord. Let us not stop praying.

(Lc 11, 1-4)

Un jour, quelque part, Jésus était en prière. Quand il eut terminé, un de ses disciples lui demanda : « Seigneur, apprends-nous à prier, comme Jean Baptiste l'a appris à ses disciples. »
Il leur répondit : « Quand vous priez, dites :
'Père, que ton nom soit sanctifié, que ton règne vienne.
Donne-nous le pain dont nous avons besoin pour chaque jour.
Pardonne-nous nos péchés, car nous-mêmes nous pardonnons à tous ceux qui ont des torts envers nous. Et ne nous soumets pas à la tentation.' »

Le message

La prière est un dialogue d’entre deux personnes qui s’aiment par lequel ils s’écoutent et ils se comprennent. Sans cette écoute et compréhension, nous ne pouvons pas avoir un vrai dialogue. C’est dans ce dialogue nous pourrions découvrir la volonté du Père et en faisant sa volonté que nous pourrions devenir les vrais enfants de Dieu.

Quand nous nous adressons Dieu comme notre Père, nous acceptons que nous sommes ses enfants et nous promettons au Père que nous ferons sa volonté. Or sa volonté, ce que nous nous aimions les uns les autres et dans cet amour que nous annoncions la bonne nouvelle ; le règne de Dieu.

La meilleure expression de l’amour est le pardon. Dieu nous aime par le pardon. Puisque nous sommes ses enfants, nous devons pardonner les uns les autres. Vivions pleinement et dignement notre vie comme les enfants de Dieu.

Gospel text (Lc 11,1-4):

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place and when He had finished, one of his disciples said to him, «Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples». And Jesus said to them, «When you pray, say this: Father, hallowed be your name, may your kingdom come, give us each day the kind of bread we need, and forgive us our sins, for we also for-give all who do us wrong, and do not bring us to the test».

The message

Prayer is a dialogue between two persons who love each other. It is a language of lovers. Jesus raises this dialogue in to a fatherly relationship, where the giver is very generous and unconditional and the beneficiary reciprocates through the same love towards others.

The best way to express our love is by forgiving. It is here that the God reaches to the humanity in Jesus Christ. The final prayer ends with forgiveness and protection from the temptation. Jesus in the Cross has already shown us to which extent God loves us and forgives us.

In this prayer everyone is included. God and his glory, I and my daily bread, and pardon and the others, all are part of this prayer. A spiritual God fearing prayerful person should have this inclusive approach, where all have a say and a place to lay the head.

(Lc 10, 38-42)

Alors qu'il était en route avec ses disciples, Jésus entra dans un village. Une femme appelée Marthe le reçut dans sa maison.
Elle avait une sœur nommée Marie qui, se tenant assise aux pieds du Seigneur, écoutait sa parole.
Marthe était accaparée par les multiples occupations du service. Elle intervint et dit : « Seigneur, cela ne te fait rien ? Ma sœur me laisse seule à faire le service. Dis-lui donc de m'aider. »
Le Seigneur lui répondit : « Marthe, Marthe, tu t'inquiètes et tu t'agites pour bien des choses. Une seule est nécessaire. Marie a choisi la meilleure part : elle ne lui sera pas enlevée. »

Le message

Marthe et Marie représentent un monde idéal. Si Marie représente un monde qui prie et écoute la Parole de Dieu, Marthe représente un monde qui se met aux services des autres. La réponse du Seigneur sans aucun reproche nous montre non seulement sa priorité mais également que nos activités caritatives doivent s’enraciné à l’écoute du Seigneur. Si nos activités caritatives ne jaillissent pas de notre relation avec du Seigneur, elle va risquer de nous amener vers égoïsme et nous enfermer en elle-même. Ce jour là, nous oublierons de vivre pour le Seigneur, et au nom du Seigneur nous vivrons pour les activités caritatives.

Gospel text (Lc 10,38-42):

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, He entered a village and a woman called Martha welcomed him to her house. She had a sister named Mary who sat down at the Lord's feet to listen to his words. Martha, meanwhile, was busy with all the serving and finally she said, «Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do all the serving?». But the Lord answered, «Martha, Martha, you worry and are troubled about many things, whereas only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the better part, and it will not be taken away from her».

The message

It is quite interesting to note that Martha accuses not only her sister, but also Jesus of ignoring her. This is the real tragedy in life that we accuse the one whom we love and serve. Our charities are not for the charity sake, it is for the Lord. When we do things for the Lord, even if we are left alone, there will be no complaints. If we allow ourselves to be taken over by other priorities of the world, even if they are just and correct (like the demand of Martha), it may lead us to the personal glory and gratification, thus we may miss the mark.

Jesus reminds us that the priority of every Christian act should be centered in him. If we wish that our lives be centered in Jesus Christ, we have to start it by being close with the Lord and give heed to all that He says to us. Many of us read the Bible as the Word of the Lord, but we fail to realize that Lord is capable of speaking to us in a simple language or through different events of life outside of daily Bible reading.

Let our charities be born from our relationship with the Lord and it will be meaningful not only to the beneficiaries, but also to the givers.
