Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Marc

(Mc 6, 34-44)

Jésus voyant une grande foule de gens sur le bord du lac, fut saisi de pitié envers eux, parce qu'ils étaient comme des brebis sans berger. Alors, il se mit à les instruire longuement.

Déjà l'heure était avancée ; ses disciples s'étaient approchés et lui disaient : « L'endroit est désert et il est déjà tard. Renvoie-les, qu'ils aillent dans les fermes et les villages des environs s'acheter de quoi manger. »

Il leur répondit : « Donnez-leur vous-mêmes à manger. » Ils répliquent : « Allons-nous dépenser le salaire de deux cents journées pour acheter du pain et leur donner à manger ? »

Jésus leur demande : « Combien avez-vous de pains ? Allez voir. » S'étant informés, ils lui disent : « Cinq, et deux poissons. »

Il leur ordonna de les faire tous asseoir par groupes sur l'herbe verte.

Ils s'assirent en rond par groupes de cent et de cinquante.

Jésus prit les cinq pains et les deux poissons, et, levant les yeux au ciel, il prononça la bénédiction, rompit les pains, et il les donnait aux disciples pour qu'ils les distribuent. Il partagea aussi les deux poissons entre eux tous.

Tous mangèrent à leur faim. Et l'on ramassa douze paniers pleins de morceaux de pain et de poisson. Ceux qui avaient mangé les pains étaient au nombre de cinq mille hommes.

Le message

L’homme cherche Dieu et il ne le trouve pas car nous ne pouvons pas le réduire à une matière physique ou biologique. Chaque fois qu’on voit les signes de l’amour, les croyants y perçoivent la présence de Dieu. Dieu se manifeste dans l’amour.

La multiplication du pain n’est-elle pas une expression de l’amour pour le peuple qui suit le Seigneur? Le Seigneur n’a-t-il pas pris nos pains pour les multiplier en signe du partage?

Faisons confiance au Seigneur, tant qu’il est avec nous, il nous nourrira. Ressentons-nous sa présence dans notre vie quotidienne ?

La prière

Seigneur, tu nous regardes et tu es saisi de pitié envers nous. Tu nous demandes nos pains pour que tu puisses les partager avec les autres. Donne-nous ton regard et apprends-nous à partager. Amen.

Mark 6: 34 - 44

34 As he went ashore he saw a great throng, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.

35 And when it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, "This is a lonely place, and the hour is now late;

36 send them away, to go into the country and villages round about and buy themselves something to eat."

37 But he answered them, "You give them something to eat." And they said to him, "Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread, and give it to them to eat?"

38 And he said to them, "How many loaves have you? Go and see." And when they had found out, they said, "Five, and two fish."

39 Then he commanded them all to sit down by companies upon the green grass.

40 So they sat down in groups, by hundreds and by fifties.

41 And taking the five loaves and the two fish he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples to set before the people; and he divided the two fish among them all.

42 And they all ate and were satisfied.

43 And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish.

44 And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.

The message

Jesus looks at the crowd and he had the compassion. He asking us to look and see by ourselves things happening around us. Very often we refuse to open our eyes to see the truth in and around us.

He receives the five loaves of bread and two fish to share with us. He is asking us to open our hearts and share very little may be what we have, and he will do the multiplication. Are we ready to share what we have received?

The multiplication of bread is an expression of God’s love and a sign of God’s presence. Let us open our eyes and see the signs given to us and we will see this wonderful God in us.

The Prayer

Eternal Lord, through your only Son, we understand your love and compassion for us. Through the multiplication of bread, we know that you understand our daily pain of hunger and thirst. Give us the same compassion for the people so that we may quench their thirst, both spiritual and material, Amen.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

(Mt 4, 12-17.23-25)

Quand Jésus apprit l'arrestation de Jean Baptiste, il se retira en Galilée. Il quitta Nazareth et vint habiter à Capharnaüm, ville située au bord du lac, dans les territoires de Zabulon et de Nephtali.

Ainsi s'accomplit ce que le Seigneur avait dit par le prophète Isaïe : Pays de Zabulon et pays de Nephtali, route de la mer et pays au-delà du Jourdain, Galilée, toi le carrefour des païens : le peuple qui habitait dans les ténèbres a vu se lever une grande lumière.S ur ceux qui habitaient dans le pays de l'ombre et de la mort,une lumière s'est levée.

À partir de ce moment, Jésus se mit à proclamer : « Convertissez-vous, car le Royaume des cieux est tout proche. »

Jésus, parcourant toute la Galilée, enseignait dans leurs synagogues, proclamait la Bonne Nouvelle du Royaume, guérissait toute maladie et toute infirmité dans le peuple.

Sa renommée se répandit dans toute la Syrie et on lui amena tous ceux qui souffraient, atteints de maladies et de tourments de toutes sortes : possédés, épileptiques, paralysés ; et il les guérit. De grandes foules le suivirent, venues de la Galilée, de la Décapole, de Jérusalem, de la Judée, et de la Transjordanie.

Le message

Le Seigneur annonce la bonne nouvelle ; le pardon apporté par l’incarnation. La présence du Seigneur guéri non seulement les maladies du corps, mais aussi les âmes.

Jésus est là pour rétablir l’homme à sa place devant son Père, comme l’enfant de Dieu. Ce n’est pas seulement un don, c’est notre place que nous avons laissé tomber à cause de nos faiblesses.

La foi est le seul moyen disponible aux hommes (les chrétiens) pour qu’ils retrouvent sa place dignement au Royaume de Dieu.

La prière

Seigneur, tu es notre chemin et notre vie. Sans toi notre vie perdra le sens de l’existence. Donne-nous ta grâce pour que nous apportions la même joie et la même paix que tu nous donne à travers nos frères et sœurs. Nous te offrons cette semaine, nos familles et nos amis pour que nous recevions tout de toi et pour toi, Amen.

Matthew 4: 12 - 17, 23 - 25

12 Now when he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee;

13 and leaving Nazareth he went and dwelt in Caper'na-um by the sea, in the territory of Zeb'ulun and Naph'tali,

14 that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:

15 "The land of Zeb'ulun and the land of Naph'tali, toward the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles --

16 the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned."

17 From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

23 And he went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people.

24 So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, and paralytics, and he healed them.

25 And great crowds followed him from Galilee and the Decap'olis and Jerusalem and Judea and from beyond the Jordan.

The message

Yesterday we celebrated the feast of Epiphany which reminds us the universality of the salvation. It is the continuation of the feast of light, Jesus the light of the world.

Mathew today presents Jesus as the real light of the world, who heals the sick people. People, who were living in darkness of sickness, have seen the light in the healing.

Jesus will remove all sort of darkness in human being. Let us open our hearts so that His light may penetrate to illumine the beauty of human hearts.

The Prayer

We thank you Lord for the new week you offer to your faithful. Let this week be a new beginning for us and may we live in your light. Heal our hearts and our souls so that we may be your light to our friends. Bless our family and be the light of our family. Amen.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Matthieu

(Mt 2, 1-12)

Jésus était né à Bethléem en Judée, au temps du roi Hérode le Grand. Or, voici que des mages venus d'Orient arrivèrent à Jérusalem et demandèrent : « Où est le roi des Juifs qui vient de naître ? Nous avons vu se lever son étoile et nous sommes venus nous prosterner devant lui. »

En apprenant cela, le roi Hérode fut pris d'inquiétude, et tout Jérusalem avec lui. Il réunit tous les chefs des prêtres et tous les scribes d'Israël, pour leur demander en quel lieu devait naître le Messie. Ils lui répondirent : « À Bethléem en Judée, car voici ce qui est écrit par le prophète : Et toi, Bethléem en Judée, tu n'es certes pas le dernier parmi les chefs-lieux de Judée ; car de toi sortira un chef, qui sera le berger d'Israël mon peuple. »

Alors Hérode convoqua les mages en secret pour leur faire préciser à quelle date l'étoile était apparue ; puis il les envoya à Bethléem, en leur disant : « Allez vous renseigner avec précision sur l'enfant. Et quand vous l'aurez trouvé, avertissez-moi pour que j'aille, moi aussi, me prosterner devant lui. »

Sur ces paroles du roi, ils partirent. Et voilà que l'étoile qu'ils avaient vue se lever les précédait ; elle vint s'arrêter au-dessus du lieu où se trouvait l'enfant.

Quand ils virent l'étoile, ils éprouvèrent une très grande joie.

En entrant dans la maison, ils virent l'enfant avec Marie sa mère ; et, tombant à genoux, ils se prosternèrent devant lui. Ils ouvrirent leurs coffrets, et lui offrirent leurs présents : de l'or, de l'encens et de la myrrhe. Mais ensuite, avertis en songe de ne pas retourner chez Hérode, ils regagnèrent leur pays par un autre chemin.

Homélie

Nous venons de célébrer la naissance du Seigneur, la lumière du monde et aujourd’hui nous célébrons la fête de l’Epiphanie, qui nous dit que cette lumière appartient à l’univers, car la présence des mages nous annonce que cette bonne nouvelle est annoncée non seulement à une communauté ou à un peuple, mais également à tout le monde.

La fête de l’Epiphanie nous rappelle que les mages sont dirigés par une étoile. Bien qu’on entende la Parole de Dieu et qu’on la mette en pratique, il est possible que l’homme puisse se tromper. Nous avons une bonne nouvelle ; l’étoile est encore là. Voilà l’espérance que le Seigneur nous donne, il ne nous abandonnera pas.

Les mages ont quitté leur pays pour aller à la rencontre du Seigneur. Nous aussi, nous devons quitter nos refuges, prendre des risques, marcher en confiance vers l’étoile qui va paraitre de nouveau pour nous montrer le chemin.

Les cadeaux présentés à cet enfant ont une signification symbolique : l'or célébrait la royauté du Seigneur, l'encens la divinité de cet enfant et la myrrhe annonçait sa souffrance rédemptrice. Le monde aimerait choisir seulement la royauté et la divinité. Pourtant le chemin du passage d’une personne de l'humanité à la divinité n’est pas facile. Les risques et les échecs font partie de ce passage.

La fête de l’Epiphanie est une histoire du peuple qui attendait, un roi, une lumière, un signe du ciel. Cette attende est la nôtre. Nous attendons cette lumière et ce signe pour pouvoir avancer. Si nous restons à Jérusalem qui symbolise le centre du culte et les lois de l’homme, nous ne verrons pas la lumière, car dans ce conte, l’étoile ne brille pas sur Jérusalem.

Les mages surtout étaient les chercheurs, les chercheurs de Dieu. Tout d’abord sommes-nous les chercheurs ?, les chercheurs de Dieu, avec notre cœur ? Connaître Dieu intellectuellement, c’est bien, mais avec le cœur c’est infiniment mieux, c’est ainsi que nous pourrons non seulement le connaitre mais aussi vivre avec lui. Grâce à Dieu, les mages laissèrent loin derrière eux les conseils et les intrigues des hommes pour ne suivre que les signes donnés par Dieu pour trouver le sauveur de l’Univers. Et tout cela les remplit de joie. Alors, mettons nos pas dans ceux des mages et nous trouverons « l’Enfant avec sa mère », et nous connaîtrons la joie promise. Amen.

4 and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.

5 They told him, "In Bethlehem of Judea; for so it is written by the prophet:

6 `And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will govern my people Israel.'"

7 Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star appeared;

8 and he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, "Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him bring me word, that I too may come and worship him."

9 When they had heard the king they went their way; and lo, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came to rest over the place where the child was.

10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy;

11 and going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.

12 And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way.

Homily

We just celebrated the birth of the Lord, the light of the world and today we celebrate the feast of the Epiphany, which tells us that this light belongs to all, because the presence of the Magi tells us that this good news is announced not only to a particular community, but also to everyone. Thus Christ belongs not only to thee Christians, but also to all the religions.

The Feast of the Epiphany reminds us that the Magi were led by a star. Although we hear the Word of God and that puts it into practice, it is possible that we could miss the mark. Constant evaluation and examination of conscience is important in our daily spiritual journey. In spite our sincere efforts, if we fail, we have a good news, the star is still there. This is the hope that the Lord gives us, he will not forsake us.

Mages have left their country to go to meet the Lord. We also have to leave our shelter, take risk, and walk confidently towards the star which will reappear again to show us the way.

Gifts presented to the child have a symbolic meaning: gold celebrating the kingship of God, the divinity of frankincense and myrrh that child announced his redemptive suffering. The world would like to choose only the royalty and the divinity of the Lord. Yet we all know that the suffering is part of the route towards the fullness of holiness. Risks and failures are part of this spiritual adventure.

The Feast of the Epiphany is a story of people waiting, waiting for a king to deliver them, a light to illumine the way of life, a sign from heaven to walk with confidence. This expectation is ours. We expect this light and this sign to move forward. If we stay in Jerusalem which symbolizes the center of worship and the pinnacle of human laws which manipulate the poor man, we will not see the light, because in this story, the star does not shine on Jerusalem.

The Magi were mainly researchers, seekers of God. Firstly are we the one who longs to know the truth?, Researchers of God with our heart? Know God intellectually, it is good, but know God with the heart is infinitely better, thus we can not only know but also live with him. Happily the Magi left behind them the advice and intrigues of men and have decided to follow the signs given by God to find the savior of the universe. And all that fills them with joy. Then put ourselves in the footsteps of the Magi and we will find "the Child with his mother," and we will have the joy promised. Amen.

(1, 43-51)

Jésus avait rencontré ses premiers disciples ; le lendemain, il décida de partir pour la Galilée. Il rencontre Philippe, et lui dit : « Suis-moi. » (Philippe était de Bethsaïde, comme André et Pierre.)

Philippe rencontre Nathanaël et lui dit : « Celui dont parlent la loi de Moïse et les Prophètes, nous l'avons trouvé : c'est Jésus fils de Joseph, de Nazareth. »

Nathanaël répliqua : « De Nazareth ! Peut-il sortir de là quelque chose de bon ? » Philippe répond : « Viens, et tu verras. »

Lorsque Jésus voit Nathanaël venir à lui, il déclare : « Voici un véritable fils d'Israël, un homme qui ne sait pas mentir. »

Nathanaël lui demande : « Comment me connais-tu ? » Jésus lui répond : « Avant que Philippe te parle, quand tu étais sous le figuier, je t'ai vu. »

Nathanaël lui dit : « Rabbi, c'est toi le Fils de Dieu ! C'est toi le roi d'Israël ! »

Jésus reprend : « Je te dis que je t'ai vu sous le figuier, et c'est pour cela que tu crois ! Tu verras des choses plus grandes encore. »

Et il ajoute : « Amen, amen, je vous le dis : vous verrez les cieux ouverts, avec les anges de Dieu qui montent et descendent au-dessus du Fils de l'homme. »

Le message

« Mes enfants, nous devons aimer : non pas avec des paroles et des discours, mais par des actes et en vérité. » C’est dans cet amour que Dieu décida de se révéler par l’incarnation. C’est pour le répandre que Jésus invite ses disciples à le suivre. C’est dans cet amour que Nathanaël est venu voir Jésus.

Pouvons-nous répandre cet amour en nous aimant les uns, les autres ? Allons-nous, nous aussi comme Nathanaël à la rencontre du Seigneur.

La prière

Seigneur, tu nous invites à te suivre dans le chemin d’amour. Par ton incarnation tu nous le fais comprendre. Aide-nous afin que nous devenions le signe de ton amour dans ce monde non seulement par nos paroles, mais aussi dans des actes. Amen.

43 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. And he found Philip and said to him, "Follow me."

44 Now Philip was from Beth-sa'ida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

45 Philip found Nathan'a-el, and said to him, "We have found him of whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."

46 Nathan'a-el said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see."

47 Jesus saw Nathan'a-el coming to him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!"

48 Nathan'a-el said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you."

49 Nathan'a-el answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!"

50 Jesus answered him, "Because I said to you, I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You shall see greater things than these."

51 And he said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man."

Le message

The incarnation is the visible sign of the love of God. Jesus invites Philip to follow Him and learn from him to love without any condition. Philip invites Nathaniel to discover Jesus.

Saint John is asking us love one another not only by our words, but also in deeds. It is in this love that other will discover that we are the disciples of Christ.

All the disciples of Christ are called to be the visible signs of the love of God. Are we really his disciples by our deeds?

The prayer

Eternal Father, in your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, we learn your love and how to love one other. Give us your grace so that we may be able to take part in His Kingdom of love. Amen.

(Jn 1, 35-42)

Jean Baptiste se trouvait de nouveau avec deux de ses disciples.

Posant son regard sur Jésus qui allait et venait, il dit : « Voici l'Agneau de Dieu. »

Les deux disciples entendirent cette parole, et ils suivirent Jésus.

Celui-ci se retourna, vit qu'ils le suivaient, et leur dit : « Que cherchez-vous ? » Ils lui répondirent : « Rabbi (c'est-à-dire : Maître), où demeures-tu ? »

Il leur dit : « Venez, et vous verrez. » Ils l'accompagnèrent, ils virent où il demeurait, et ils restèrent auprès de lui ce jour-là. C'était vers quatre heures du soir.

André, le frère de Simon-Pierre, était l'un des deux disciples qui avaient entendu Jean Baptiste et qui avaient suivi Jésus.

Il trouve d'abord son frère Simon et lui dit : « Nous avons trouvé le Messie (autrement dit : le Christ).

André amena son frère à Jésus. Jésus posa son regard sur lui et dit : « Tu es Simon, fils de Jean ; tu t'appelleras Képha » (ce qui veut dire : pierre)

Le message

« Nous avons trouvé le Messie, »……….. « Tu es Simon, fils de Jean ; tu t’appelleras Képha » André un des disciples de Jean suit le Seigneur selon la direction de son maître, Jean Baptiste. Comme lui nous devons amener nos frères et sœurs vers le Seigneur.

C’est dans l’amour que les autres nous reconnaîtront disciples de Jésus et c’est encore dans cet amour que le peuple découvrira la présence de Dieu en nous.

« Celui qui ne vit pas selon la justice n’appartient pas à Dieu, et pas davantage celui qui n’aime pas son frère », nous dit saint Jean.

La prière

Seigneur, la seule chose que je te demande, est de trouver une place dans ta maison, pas seulement pour moi, mais aussi pour mes frères et sœurs. Comme les disciples d’Emmaüs, nous te demandons, ‘Reste avec nous’. Que ta lumière illumine nos chemins et que le monde trouve ta lumière en nous. Amen.

35 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples;

36 and he looked at Jesus as he walked, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God!"

37 The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.

38 Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them, "What do you seek?" And they said to him, "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), "where are you staying?"

39 He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where he was staying; and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.

40 One of the two who heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.

41 He first found his brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which means Christ).

42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him, and said, "So you are Simon the son of John? You shall be called Cephas" (which means Peter).

The message

The principle mission of the incarnation is to show people, how much God loves us. It is in this love for God and for his people that we have become Christians.

Jesus knowing well the deep faith of Peter makes him the pillar of the foundation of His Church and He will once again verify that by asking Peter, “Do you love me more than these?”

“Whoever does not do right is not of God, nor he who does not love his brother” says John in his letter. Let our Faith finds its foundation in the love of God and of His people and gives its expression in our relationship.

The Prayer

Jesus, you have invited Andrew to come and stay with you. We all wish to live in you and through you. Help us to see you everywhere and in every person we meet today. Like Andrew, let us also by your grace bring more people close to you Amen.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Jean

(Jn 1, 29-34)

Comme Jean Baptiste voyait Jésus venir vers lui, il dit : « Voici l'Agneau de Dieu, qui enlève le péché du monde ; c'est de lui que j'ai dit : Derrière moi vient un homme qui a sa place devant moi, car avant moi il était. Je ne le connaissais pas ; mais, si je suis venu baptiser dans l'eau, c'est pour qu'il soit manifesté au peuple d'Israël. »

Alors Jean rendit ce témoignage : « J'ai vu l'Esprit descendre du ciel comme une colombe et demeurer sur lui. Je ne le connaissais pas, mais celui qui m'a envoyé baptiser dans l'eau m'a dit : 'L'homme sur qui tu verras l'Esprit descendre et demeurer, c'est celui-là qui baptise dans l'Esprit Saint.' Oui, j'ai vu, et je rends ce témoignage : c'est lui le Fils de Dieu. »

Le message

Si Jean rend témoignage du Christ, c’est que le Saint Esprit demeure en lui. Personne n’a vu le Seigneur, pourtant il était là au milieu du monde. Aujourd’hui Jean le voit comme le messie, auparavant il le voyait comme un cousin.

N’est-ce pas l’Esprit Saint qui agit ici ? N’est-ce pas celui que nous avons reçu lors de notre baptême ? Pourquoi l’action du Saint Esprit qui se répète quotidiennement dans notre vie, échappe-t-elle au regard de l’homme ?

Où se trouve la vérité ? Le Seigneur est-il vraiment avec nous ? , ou n’arrivons-nous pas à le reconnaitre ?

La prière

Dieu notre Père, tu nous as donné ton Fils unique pour que l’homme comprenne ton amour et qu’il vive pleinement dans la paix. Tu as envoyé Jean Baptiste pour qu’il prépare le chemin et montre le Seigneur au monde. Donne-nous ton Esprit afin que nous soyons conduits par lui vers toi.

Matthew 1: 18 - 23

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit;

19 and her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.

20 But as he considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit;

21 she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins."

22 All this took place to fulfil what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:

23 "Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emmanuel" (which means, God with us).

The message

Today we are celebrating the holy name of Jesus, ‘Emmanuel’ God with us. The incarnation is the visible presence of God in our life. He has become one among us and made us holy by being human like us.

In Jesus we have become children of God and by baptism we have assumed this responsibility to live with dignity that this name carries.

Through us may the world see and taste the presence of God. May we become the redeemers of the world so that the world may be illumined by the light of Christ.

The Prayer

Lord God, in Jesus you have made us worthy to be your children. Give us your grace that we may be able to live our lives as you like us to be. Send us your Holy Spirit in us, to guide us and protect us. Amen.

(Jn 1, 19-28)

Voici quel fut le témoignage de Jean Baptiste, quand les Juifs lui envoyèrent de Jérusalem des prêtres et des lévites pour lui demander : « Qui es-tu ? »

Il le reconnut ouvertement, il déclara : « Je ne suis pas le Messie. »

Ils lui demandèrent : « Qui es-tu donc ? Es-tu le prophète Élie ? » Il répondit : « Non. Alors es-tu le grand Prophète ? » Il répondit : « Ce n'est pas moi. »

Alors ils lui dirent : « Qui es-tu ? Il faut que nous donnions une réponse à ceux qui nous ont envoyés. Que dis-tu sur toi-même ? »

Il répondit : « Je suis la voix qui crie à travers le désert : Aplanissez le chemin du Seigneur, comme a dit le prophète Isaïe. »

Or, certains des envoyés étaient des pharisiens. Ils lui posèrent encore cette question : « Si tu n'es ni le Messie, ni Élie, ni le grand Prophète, pourquoi baptises-tu ? »

Jean leur répondit : « Moi, je baptise dans l'eau. Mais au milieu de vous se tient celui que vous ne connaissez pas : c'est lui qui vient derrière moi, et je ne suis même pas digne de défaire la courroie de sa sandale. »

Tout cela s'est passé à Béthanie-de-Transjordanie, à l'endroit où Jean baptisait.

Le message

La connaissance de la vérité est la source de la sagesse. Nous voulons tout savoir et tout connaitre, si possible, en toute certitude. C’est certainement un comportement respectable. Mais nous devons bien l’admettre : avec une intelligence si faible, comment pourrions- nous tout connaitre ?

Voici un bon témoignage de Jean Baptiste sur lui-même dans lequel il nous présente Jésus qui, bien qu’invisible au monde, est pourtant là, au milieu de nous.

Si nous laissons Dieu agir en nous, nous allons reconnaitre la présence de Dieu en nous et décoder les événements ordinaires par lesquels Dieu se révèle.

Seigneur, tu nous offert beaucoup de bonheur et de joie pour vivre notre vie pleinement et nous t’en remercions. Pourtant dans notre vie quotidienne nous n’arrivons pas les décoder et en profiter. Illumines-nous pour que nous arrivions de reconnaitre les dons que tu nous donne en Jésus Christ, Amen.

John 1: 19 - 28

20 He confessed, he did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ."

21 And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the prophet?" And he answered, "No."

22 They said to him then, "Who are you? Let us have an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?"

23 He said, "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, `Make straight the way of the Lord,' as the prophet Isaiah said."

24 Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.

25 They asked him, "Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?"

26 John answered them, "I baptize with water; but among you stands one whom you do not know,

27 even he who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie."

28 This took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

The message

Jesus is amidst us and we don’t recognize his presence. We need John Baptist to tell us that He is with us. John Baptist could do this, because He was inspired, he knew himself and he could reply people in telling “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as the prophet Isaiah said.”

Lord is calling us either to be John to prepare the way or to be Jesus to the world. If we allow the Holy Spirit work in us, this is not something impossible.

The Prayer

Lord, you are the only source we have on this earth. Through our family and friends you love us and protect us. Due to our weakness we are not always be able to feel this presence in us. We also look for you everywhere like others and fail to see your presence in our hearts. Help us to find you and profit the new baptism of fire and the Spirit you propose to us. Amen.

Commencement de l'Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Jean

(Jn 1, 1-18)

Au commencement était le Verbe, la Parole de Dieu, et le Verbe était auprès de Dieu, et le Verbe était Dieu.

Il était au commencement auprès de Dieu.

Par lui, tout s'est fait, et rien de ce qui s'est fait ne s'est fait sans lui.

En lui était la vie, et la vie était la lumière des hommes ;

la lumière brille dans les ténèbres, et les ténèbres ne l'ont pas arrêtée.

Il y eut un homme envoyé par Dieu. Son nom était Jean.

Il était venu comme témoin, pour rendre témoignage à la Lumière, afin que tous croient par lui.

Cet homme n'était pas la Lumière, mais il était là pour lui rendre témoignage.

Le Verbe était la vraie Lumière, qui éclaire tout homme en venant dans le monde.

Il était dans le monde, lui par qui le monde s'était fait, mais le monde ne l'a pas reconnu.

Il est venu chez les siens, et les siens ne l'ont pas reçu.

Mais tous ceux qui l'ont reçu, ceux qui croient en son nom, il leur a donné de pouvoir devenir enfants de Dieu.

Ils ne sont pas nés de la chair et du sang, ni d'une volonté charnelle, ni d'une volonté d'homme : ils sont nés de Dieu.

Et le Verbe s'est fait chair, il a habité parmi nous, et nous avons vu sa gloire, la gloire qu'il tient de son Père comme Fils unique, plein de grâce et de vérité.

Jean Baptiste lui rend témoignage en proclamant : « Voici celui dont j'ai dit : Lui qui vient derrière moi, il a pris place devant moi, car avant moi il était. »

Tous nous avons eu part à sa plénitude, nous avons reçu grâce après grâce :

après la Loi communiquée par Moïse, la grâce et la vérité sont venues par Jésus Christ.

Dieu, personne ne l'a jamais vu ; le Fils unique, qui est dans le sein du Père, c'est lui qui a conduit à le connaître.

Le message

C’est le dernier jour de l’année civile et nous rendons grâce à Dieu pour tout ce que nous avons reçu cette année. Ce jour, l’Eglise nous propose le texte de saint Jean, un texte qui résume l’histoire de l’homme qui rejette habituellement le projet de Dieu et la fidélité de Dieu pour le salut et aussi le moyen adopté par Dieu en Jésus pour renouveler et établir une nouvelle alliance, comme Dieu l’a voulue.

Grâce à l’incarnation l’homme désormais vivra en Dieu facilement. En Jésus Christ il peut comprendre un Dieu qui nous aime et qui nous délivre. Dieu, en Jésus Christ nous donne une nouvelle vie, une vie celle de son Fils et nous devenons l’enfant de Dieu.

John 1: 1 - 18

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 He was in the beginning with God;

3 all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made.

4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

7 He came for testimony, to bear witness to the light, that all might believe through him.

8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light.

9 The true light that enlightens every man was coming into the world.

10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world knew him not.

11 He came to his own home, and his own people received him not.

12 But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God;

13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father.

15 (John bore witness to him, and cried, "This was he of whom I said, `He who comes after me ranks before me, for he was before me.'")

Le message

It is in Christ that we become the children of God. Believe in Christ and receive him in our hearts or not is our choice. If we believe in Him and receive Him, he will make us the children of God.

All that we know about God is from Him and it is through Him that we can go to God. Let us hold Him and believe in Him and we will be with God and God in us.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc

(Lc 2, 41-52)

Chaque année, les parents de Jésus allaient à Jérusalem pour la fête de la Pâque.

Quand il eut douze ans, ils firent le pèlerinage suivant la coutume.

Comme ils s'en retournaient à la fin de la semaine, le jeune Jésus resta à Jérusalem sans que ses parents s'en aperçoivent.

Pensant qu'il était avec leurs compagnons de route, ils firent une journée de chemin avant de le chercher parmi leurs parents et connaissances.

Ne le trouvant pas, ils revinrent à Jérusalem en continuant à le chercher.

C'est au bout de trois jours qu'ils le trouvèrent dans le Temple, assis au milieu des docteurs de la Loi : il les écoutait et leur posait des questions,

et tous ceux qui l'entendaient s'extasiaient sur son intelligence et sur ses réponses.

En le voyant, ses parents furent stupéfaits, et sa mère lui dit : « Mon enfant, pourquoi nous as-tu fait cela ? Vois comme nous avons souffert en te cherchant, ton père et moi ! »

Il leur dit : « Comment se fait-il que vous m'ayez cherché ? Ne le saviez-vous pas ? C'est chez mon Père que je dois être. »

Mais ils ne comprirent pas ce qu'il leur disait.

Il descendit avec eux pour rentrer à Nazareth, et il leur était soumis. Sa mère gardait dans son cœur tous ces événements.

Quant à Jésus, il grandissait en sagesse, en taille et en grâce, sous le regard de Dieu et des hommes.

Homélie

Le premier dimanche après la fête de Noël, l’Eglise universelle célèbre la fête de la Saint Famille. Nous n’avons pas le détail de tous les événements familiaux de Jésus, cependant certains moments forts de cette famille nous montrent qu’elle est notre modèle.

La famille est le fondement d’une société équilibrée et libre. Comme je vous l’avais déjà dit, la famille est la première école de nos enfants. C’est là que l’enfant apprend à aimer, à pardonner, à partager et à respecter. En voyant leurs parents les enfants apprennent à vivre leur vie pleinement. Même si de temps en temps à cause d’une amitié d’une relation peu recommandable ou d’un environnement défavorable, l’enfant se trompe, grâce à un bon équilibre familial et à de bons parents, il sera capable de pouvoir se remettre sur le bon chemin. Nous ne nions pas les exceptions dans notre société. Que les exceptions ne deviennent pas la règle de la vie.

L’évangile du jour nous présente une douloureuse expérience au sein de la sainte famille. Il y a un manque de communication entre les parents. Ils discutent et ils règlent très vite le problème et se mettent d’accord sur ce qu’ils doivent faire : Aller vers Jérusalem pour chercher leur enfant. Travaillons toujours ensemble. Ne faisons jamais les mêmes choses séparément, même si ça nous arrange.

Tentons de clarifier les choses sans faire de reproches aux autres. Même si le petit Jésus a reconnu son droit d’être dans la maison de son Père, l’évangile du jour nous dit que l’enfant descendit avec ses parents pour rentrer à Nazareth, il leur était soumis. L’obéissance entre parents et enfants, le respect mutuel et la réconciliation sont les valeurs essentielles de la vie de famille. Sachons dire pardon tous les jours. Tant de couples se sont quittés parce qu'ils n'ont pas su le dire. Jour après jour, soyons des êtres miséricordieux. A mon avis une des causes des violences de nos jours est le manque de pardon dans notre société.

Ce jour de fête de la saint Famille, n’oublions pas les familles qui souffrent, les familles séparées, ou recomposées et les enfants qui souffrent dans cette division.

Merci Seigneur pour l’exemple que nous donne ta Famille terrestre. Que nos familles vivent, comme elle, dans un abandon filial en ta Providence. Tu es le Dieu qui se met à genoux devant nous. Aide-nous à t’accueillir pleinement, comme Joseph et Marie et à te donner la première place dans notre famille. Amen

25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ.

27 And inspired by the Spirit he came into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law,

28 he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said,

29 "Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word;

31 which thou hast prepared in the presence of all peoples,

32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to thy people Israel."

33 And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him;

34 and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, "Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is spoken against

35 (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed."

36 And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phan'u-el, of the tribe of Asher; she was of a great age, having lived with her husband seven years from her virginity,

37 and as a widow till she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day.

38 And coming up at that very hour she gave thanks to God, and spoke of him to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.

39 And when they had performed everything according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.

40 And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.

Homily

The first Sunday after Christmas, the universal Church celebrates the Feast of the Holy Family. We do not have the details of all the important moments of this holy family, but some highlights of this family shows that this is our model.

The family is the foundation of a free and balanced society. As I mentioned early, the family is the first school our children. It is here that the child learns to love, to forgive, to share and to respect. Seeing their parents the children learn to live their lives fully. Although from time to time due to a bad relationship or friendship or environment if the child happens to go away from the family traditions and values, the child will be able to get back on the right path, with a good foundation in the family and with good and guiding parents. While not denying the exceptions in our society, let us not make the exceptions as the rule of life.

The Gospel of the day shows us a painful experience of the Holy Family. There is a lack of communication between the parents. They talk and they settle quickly as early as possible and they agree to start over, go to Jerusalem to look for their child. In family life working together is very important. Never do the same things separately, even if it suits us.

Try to clarify things without blaming others. Even though the young Jesus recognized his right to be in the house of his Father, the Gospel of the day told us that the child came down with his parents and came to Nazareth, and obeyed his parents. Obedience to the parents and listening the elders in the society, respect for others and reconciliation are essential ingredients of a good family life. Let us learn to say every day pardon. So many couples got separated because they were not able to ask pardon every day and forgive others without any condition. Day after day let us be merciful. In my opinion one of the causes of violence today is the lack of forgiveness in our society.

On this feast day of holy Family, let us not forget the families who are in difficulty and who suffer a separation or divorce. Let us not forget the girl for whom the full country ( India) is crying. Let us remember her family and forgive all with justice.

Lord, we thank you for giving us the example your family on the land. Our families long to live like her, in sharing and loving. You are the God who became man to make us holy. Help us to welcome you fully in our hearts, as Joseph and Mary. Bless all the families today and make them to like your family. Amen
