(Mt 11,16-19): 

«A qui vais-je comparer cette génération? Elle ressemble à des gamins assis sur les places, qui en interpellent d'autres: ‘Nous vous avons joué de la flûte, et vous n'avez pas dansé. Nous avons entonné des chants de deuil, et vous ne vous êtes pas frappé la poitrine’. Jean Baptiste est venu, en effet; il ne mange pas, il ne boit pas, et l'on dit: ‘C'est un possédé!’. Le Fils de l'homme est venu: il mange et il boit, et l'on dit: ‘C'est un glouton et un ivrogne, un ami des publicains et des pécheurs’. Mais la sagesse de Dieu se révèle juste à travers ce qu'elle fait».

L’Application

Dieu est plein de tendresse et de pitié. Il est généreux et répond positivement à tous nos besoins nécessaires, pour que son Régine d’amour et de pardon s’établisse sur la terre. Jésus nous qu’il est cette eau vive. Nous devons nous planter, nous enraciner autour de cette eau vive, pour que nous puissions donner le fruit, même au jour de sècheresse, au temps voulu.

Aujourd'hui, nous nous rendons compte que, fréquemment, nous devons assister à des obsèques. Mais... il est rare que nous songions à nos propres funérailles. C'est comme si notre subconscient s'amusait à reculer sine die notre mort.

La contemplation même du rythme de la nature nous rappelle aussi ce fait. Nous pouvons en conclure que —d'une certaine façon— nous ne sommes pas si éloignés de la plante, d'un être vivant quelconque... Que cela nous plaise ou non, nous sommes soumis à la même loi naturelle de toutes les créatures qui nous entourent. Avec une différence importante! Celle de l'origine de notre vie, d'une vie à l'image et à la ressemblance de Dieu, avec une projection d'éternité.

Tout l'Avent est informé par cette idée. Le Seigneur s'approche de nous avec grande splendeur, avec paix, en parlant de la vie éternelle. C'est un signal d'alerte: «La sagesse de Dieu se révèle juste à travers ce qu'elle fait» (Mt 11,19). Adoptons une attitude plus accueillante au Seigneur!

«Préparez le chemin du Seigneur, aplanissez sa route» (Mc 1,3), annonçait-on le IIe Dimanche de l'Avent (cycle B). Attention à votre conduite en société! Nous dit-on aujourd'hui. C'est comme si l'on disait: «Ne mettez pas d'obstacles à la communication amoureuse de Dieu».

Nous devons parfaire notre caractère. Nous devons changer notre façon de faire. Tout ce qui, en définitive, fausse notre responsabilité: l'orgueil, l'ambition, la vengeance, la dureté de cœur, etc. Des attitudes qui nous donnent l'air de dieux du pouvoir en ce monde, alors que nous devrions plutôt reconnaître que nous ne sommes pas les maîtres du monde. Rien qu'une broutille dans la longue histoire de l'Humanité.

Les disciples de Jean expérimentaient la purification de leurs erreurs. Nous, les disciples de Jésus, notre Ami, nous pouvons vivre l'expérience indépassable de la purification de tout ce qui est péché, avec l'espérance de la vie éternelle: un autre Noël!

Renouvelons notre dialogue avec Lui. Faisons notre prière d'espérance et amour, sans faire cas du bruit du monde qui nous enveloppe.

Gospel text (Mt 11,11-15): 

Jesus said to the crowds, «No one greater than John the Baptist has come forward among the sons of women, and yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven is something to be conquered and the unyielding seize it. Up to the time of John, there was only prophesy: all the prophets and the Law; and if you believe me, John is this Elijah, whose coming was predicted. Let anyone with ears listen!».

The Application

Jesus is speaking to the people, and today He is speaking to us. Though John didn’t wish to be famous, Jesus makes him famous, by simply revealing to us, the importance of his presence in this world. The Holy Mother Church invites us all to meditate on this special person, who has chosen by God to help us to identify the Savior of the World.

The way he lived his life, proclaimed the baptism of conversion, the courage he had to face the authorities, his humility before Jesus, all made him an important personality, rightly pointed out by Jesus as the greatest. To establish and be a witness of justice, he will provoke everyone, thus invite violence on him. Thus he becomes the model of church’s persecution of the day. Nothing strange and new here.

Jesus wishes that we be John Baptist in this world and be witness of justice and divine mercy. Shall we learn to imitate John and help people to come closer to God?

Action of the day: Be humble

Today, the Gospel speaks of John the Baptist, the Messiah's Precursor, he who has come to prepare the paths of the Lord. He will stay with us until the sixteenth day, when the first part of Advent comes to an end.

John is a resolute man, who is very aware of the value of things, who is conscious of the fact that struggle is necessary to improve and be holy. That's why Jesus says: «From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven is something to be conquered and the unyielding seize it» (Mt 11:12). The “unyielding” ones are those who are unyielding to themselves: Do I struggle to believe that the Lord loves me too? Do I sacrifice myself to “make myself small”? Do I make the effort to be conscious of the fact that I am my Father's son and live accordingly?

Saint Teresa de Lisieux refers to these words from Jesus saying something which can help us in our personal and intimate conversation with the Son of Man: «It is you, oh poverty!, my first sacrifice; I'll be together with you until I die! I know that the athlete, once at the stadium, rids himself of everything in order to run. You, worldly people, can savor the pity and anguish that come from the vanity of your bitter fruits; I, joyous, will get the prize of triumph from poverty». And me, why do I complain as soon as I sense that I lack something I consider necessary? I wish I could see things as clearly as Teresa in all aspects of my life!

In a very mysterious way, Jesus says to us today: «John is this Elijah, whose coming was predicted. Let anyone with ears listen!» (Mt 11:14-15). What does he mean? He wants to make it clear to us that John was his true forerunner, who carried out the same mission as Elijah, according to the belief, which people at that time had, that the prophet Elijah was supposed to come back before the Messiah.

«Amen, je vous le dis: Parmi les hommes, il n'en a pas existé de plus grand que Jean Baptiste; et cependant le plus petit dans le Royaume des cieux est plus grand que lui. Depuis le temps de Jean Baptiste jusqu'à présent, le Royaume des cieux subit la violence, et des violents cherchent à s'en emparer. Tous les Prophètes, ainsi que la Loi, ont parlé jusqu'à Jean. Et, si vous voulez bien comprendre, le prophète Élie qui doit venir, c'est lui. Celui qui a des oreilles, qu'il entende!».

L’Application

Aujourd’hui Jésus nous le confirme que Jean le Baptiste est le plus grand parmi les hommes. Cette confirmation nous amène vers un autre monde, où il est le plus petit. Dans cette confirmation, Jésus nous oriente vers l’avenir joyeuse et dans cet avenir, nous aurons les surpris,  et verrons les merveilles de Dieu.

Pourtant Il nous dit que ce Royaume sur la terre a subis la violence. Ça commencera avec Jean. C’est ainsi Jean préparera le chemin du Seigneur.  En ces jours, nous sommes invités à regarder Jean et méditer. Écoutons tout ce qu’il nous dit et méditons ce personnage. C’est lui qui est venu nous faire découvrir le Sauveur du monde.

Aujourd'hui, l'Évangile nous parle de Saint Jean-Baptiste, le Précurseur du Messie, celui qui est venu préparer les chemins du Seigneur. Il nous accompagnera dès aujourd'hui jusqu'au jour seize, jour ou prends fin la première partie de l'Avent.

Jean est un homme ferme, qui sait comment les choses sont difficiles pour nous, il est conscient qu'il nous faut lutter pour nous améliorer et devenir saint, et c'est pour cela que Jésus exclama: «Depuis le temps de Jean Baptiste jusqu'à présent, le Royaume des cieux subit la violence, et des violents cherchent à s'en emparer» (Mt 11,12). Les “violents” sont ceux qui se font de la violence à eux-mêmes: —Je m'efface pour me faire croire que le Seigneur m’aime? Je me sacrifie pour être petit? Je m'efforce pour être conscient et vivre comme un fils du Père?

Sainte Thérèse de Lisieux se réfère aussi à ces paroles de Jésus qui disent quelque chose qui peut nous aider dans notre conversation personnelle et intime avec Jésus: «C'est toi, oh Pauvreté! mon premier sacrifice, je t'accompagnerai jusqu'à ce que je meure. Je sais que l’athlète, une fois dans le stade, se détache de tout pour courir. Savourez, mondains, votre angoisse et peine et les fruits amer de votre vanité; moi heureux, j'obtiendrais avec ma pauvreté les palmes du triomphe». —Et moi, pourquoi je me plains constamment quand je remarque qu'il me manque quelque chose que je considère comme nécessaire? Si seulement je voyais tous les aspects de ma vie aussi clairs que le Docteur!

D'une façon énigmatique Jésus nous dit aussi aujourd'hui: «Le prophète Élie qui doit venir, c'est lui [Jean-Baptiste]. Celui qui a des oreilles qu'il entende» (Mt 11,14-15). Qu'est ce qu'Il veut nous dire? Il veut nous éclaircir sur le fait que Jean était véritablement son précurseur, celui qui a mené à bien la mission de Élie, conforme à la croyance qu'existait à cette époque que le prophète Élie devait revenir avant le Messie.

(Mt 11,28-30): 

Jesus said, «Come to me, all you who work hard and who carry heavy burdens and I will refresh you. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble of heart; and you will find rest. For my yoke is good and my burden is light».

The Application

Jesus is inviting us to leave to Him all our burdens and carry what He is carrying, because, what He carries is good and light. Thus He is telling us that all that we carry in our personal, spiritual and social life is something we can’t carry by ourselves, or we have taken it upon ourselves which could be carried by others, or we are carrying lots of sins and they need to be purified. Whatever may be our state of life, it is important that we realize the unnecessary burdens we carry and learn to lighten them.

The way that Jesus proposes to lighten everything is, to become His disciples. Since He is humble and gentle, we can count on Him. It is in Him that we will find the rest. Since His Father has sent Him amidst us,  we can understand how much His Father loves us and wishes that we all be with Him.

Being a disciple means that we know Jesus, love Him and be convinced of His teaching. Being disciples is, doing what the Master asks of us,  to be with the Mather, in spirit and in truth, to remain always connected to the Mater and at the end, it is to be a perfect representation of the Master in this world.

Action of the Day: Be a disciple of the Lord.

(Mt 11,28-30): 

«Venez à moi, vous tous qui peinez sous le poids du fardeau, et moi, je vous procurerai le repos. Prenez sur vous mon joug, devenez mes disciples, car je suis doux et humble de coeur, et vous trouverez le repos. Oui, mon joug est facile à porter, et mon fardeau, léger».

L’Application

Venez et devenez. Une invitation à devenir un autre, à devenir selon la volonté divine, à devenir comme une argile dans les mains du Seigneur, à advenir comme les véritable disciples du Seigneur.

Dans cet école du Seigneur, nous pouvons porter tout et tous, car Dieu les portera avec nous. Puisque nous prenons son joug et portons son fardeau, Il est là avec nous et Il nous donne tout ce qui est nécessaire.

Pour cela, il faut être doux et humble de cœur, apprendre à agir comme Lui. Devenir, les véritables images de la miséricorde. Que les autres disent que nous sommes les chrétiens, les hommes de foi, les hommes de Dieu.

Aujourd'hui, Jésus nous conduit au repos en Dieu. Dieu est certainement un Père exigeant, parce qu’Il nous aime et nous invite à tout lui donner, mais ce n’est pas un bourreau. Quand Il exige quelque chose de nous, c’est pour nous faire grandir dans son amour. L’unique commandement est d’aimer. On peut souffrir par amour, mais l’on peut aussi se réjouir et se reposer par amour…

La docilité à Dieu libère et agrandit le cœur. C’est pourquoi Jésus, qui nous invite à renoncer à nous-mêmes pour prendre notre croix et le suivre, nous dit: «Mon joug est facile à porter, et mon fardeau, léger» (Mt 11,30). Même si, parfois, il nous coûte d’obéir à la volonté de Dieu, l’accomplir avec amour finit par nous remplir de joie: «Fais que je suive la trace de tes commandements, car en eux je me complais» (Sal 119,35).

J’aimerais raconter quelque chose. Parfois, après une journée plutôt épuisante, quand je vais me coucher, je perçois une légère sensation intérieure qui me dit: —Pourquoi n’entres-tu pas un moment dans la chapelle pour me tenir compagnie? Après quelques instants de surprise et de résistance, je finis par accepter et passer quelques moments avec Jésus. Après, je vais dormir en paix et très content, et le jour suivant je ne me réveille pas plus fatigué que de coutume.

Mais d’autres fois, c’est le contraire qui m’arrive. Devant un problème grave qui me préoccupe, je me dis: —Cette nuit, je prierai une heure dans la chapelle pour obtenir la solution. Et lorsque je me dirige vers cette chapelle, une voix me dit au fond du cœur: —Sais-tu? Tu me ferais bien plus plaisir si tu allais te coucher immédiatement et me faisais confiance; je m’occupe de ton problème. Et, me rappelant de mon heureuse condition de "serviteur inutile", je vais dormir en paix, abandonnant tout entre les mains du Seigneur…

Tout cela pour dire que la volonté de Dieu se trouve là où existe le plus grand amour, mais pas forcément la plus grande souffrance… Il y a plus d’amour à se reposer grâce à la confiance, qu’à s’angoisser à cause de l’inquiétude!

(Mt 18,12-14): 

Jesus said to his disciples, «What do you think of this? If someone has a hundred sheep and one of them strays, won't he leave the ninety-nine on the hillside, and go to look for the stray one? And I tell you: when he finally finds it, he is more pleased about it than about the ninety-nine that did not get lost. It is the same with your Father in heaven: there they don't want even one of these little ones to be lost».

The Application

The Christian faith is a love relationship with the Father of Jesus. Jesus helps us to understand the joy and the pain of the Father. It’s really painful, particularly when we lose someone very precious to us. Those who have understood this pain of separation or losing, will certainly understand the joy of the Father.

Jesus is assuring us, that His Father will do, with all His capacity to save us and to make us happy. Sadly, He won’t do against our own free will. He can call, he can come and wait, he can send his only begotten son, and even allow a shameful death of His son, to save us.

The only way to respond to this love is conversion. This conversion, is not for ourselves. It is to save the whole humanity. If we wish to cooperate in this salvific mission of the Father, which He has entrusted to His only begotten Son, then the first step is to get ourselves converted.

There is a process and it’s important that we understand this. This conversion will create a proximity with God, which is desired by the Father, and this proximity will help us to understand the divine will and this understanding can orient us to make a better discernment and this discernment will lead us towards a good decision and action. Let us not forget that the conversion itself is our response to the divine love.

Action of the day: Open your heart and eyes, listen to the joy and the cry of the Father.

"Do you see in how many ways he leads us to care for our worthless brothers? Don’t therefore say, 'The fellow's a smith, a cobbler, a farmer; he's stupid,' so that you despise him. In case you suffer the same, see in how many ways the Lord urges you to be moderate and enjoins you to care for these little ones. He placed a little child in the midst and said, 'Become like children,, and, 'Whoever receives one such child, receives me.' But 'whoever causes one of these to sin' will suffer the worst fate. And he was not even satisfied with the example of the millstone, but he also added his curse and told us to cut off such people, even though they are like a hand or eye to us. And again, through the angels to whom these small brothers are handed over, he urges that we value them, as he has valued them through his own will and passion. When Jesus says, 'The Son of man came to save the lost (Luke 19:10),' he points to the cross, just as Paul also says, writing about his brother for whom Christ died (Romans 14:15). It does not please the Father that anyone is lost. The shepherd leaves the ones that have been saved and seeks the one lost. (Mt 18,12-14): 

«Que pensez-vous de ceci? Si un homme possède cent brebis et que l'une d'entre elles s'égare, ne laissera-t-il pas les quatre-vingt-dix-neuf autres dans la montagne pour partir à la recherche de la brebis égarée? Et, s'il parvient à la retrouver, amen, je vous le dis: il se réjouit pour elle plus que pour les quatre-vingt-dix-neuf qui ne se sont pas égarées. Ainsi, votre Père qui est aux cieux ne veut pas qu'un seul de ces petits soit perdu».

L’Application

Nous nous préparons à la fête de Noël et cette fête nous nous assure que Dieu vient à nous rencontre, et particulièrement à nous sauver. Il vient nous chercher, chercher les brebis perdues, que nous sommes. Il exprime dans cette parabole la joie de notre Dieu, la joie de nous avoir avec Lui, la joie de retrouver tous ses enfants dans la joie et dans le bonheur. Il faut faire confiance et écouter ce crie de notre Maître qui vient nous chercher.

Se convertir, ce n’est pas la finalité de notre vie sur la terre. La conversion nous aide à répondre positivement à l’appel de Dieu, à accomplir la volonté divine, à sauver les hommes, les hommes de bonne foi. Aujourd’hui, Il a besoin de nous, de notre générosité, de nos talents, etc. Comment pourrions-nous nous répondre positivement et vraiment, à cet appel divin ou nous nous mettre à son service,  sans nous nous convertir?

«Ce n'est pas la volonté de votre Père céleste qu'un seul de ces petits se perde»

Aujourd'hui, Jésus nous lance un défi : "Qu'en pensez-vous ?" (Mt 18,12). Quelle sorte de miséricorde pratiques-tu ? Il est possible que nous, les "catholiques pratiquants", qui avons bénéficié de nombreuses fois de la miséricorde de Dieu dans ses sacrements, nous soyons tentés de penser que nous voilà excusés aux yeux de Dieu. Nous courons le risque de nous convertir inconsciemment en ce pharisien qui méprise le publicain (cf. Lc 18,9-14). Même si nous ne le disons pas à voix haute, nous pensons peut-être que nous sommes sans faute devant Dieu. Il y a quelques symptômes démontrant que cet orgueil pharisien prend racine en nous comme l'impatience face aux défauts des autres, ou penser que les avertissements ne sont jamais pour nous.

Le "désobéissant" prophète Jonas, un juif, resta inflexible lorsque Dieu montra qu'il avait de la peine pour les habitants de Ninive. Yahvé a reproché son intolérance à Jonas (cf. Jon 4, 10-11). Ce regard humain mettait des limites à la miséricorde divine. Et si nous aussi nous mettions des limites à la miséricorde de Dieu ? Nous devons prêter attention à la leçon de Jésus : "Soyez miséricordieux comme votre Père est miséricordieux (Lc 6,36). Il est probable qu'il nous reste beaucoup de chemin à parcourir pour imiter la miséricorde de Dieu !

Comment devrions-nous comprendre la miséricorde de notre Père céleste ? Le Pape François a dit que "Dieu ne pardonne pas par le biais d'un décret, mais en nous serrant dans ses bras". L'accolade de Dieu avec chacun d'entre nous s'appelle "Jésus-Christ". Le Christ démontre la miséricorde paternelle de Dieu. Dans le quatrième chapitre de l'Évangile de Saint Jean, le Christ n'ébruite pas les péchés de la femme samaritaine. Au contraire, la miséricorde divine guérit la Samaritaine en l'aidant à affronter pleinement la réalité de son péché. La miséricorde de Dieu est totalement cohérente avec la vérité. La miséricorde n'est pas une excuse pour réduire nos valeurs morales. Par contre, Jésus a dû provoquer son repentir avec beaucoup plus de tendresse que ce qu'a ressenti la femme adultère "blessée par l'amour" (cf. Jn 8,3-11). Nous aussi, nous devons apprendre comment aider les autres à affronter leurs erreurs sans leur faire honte, avec un grand respect pour eux en tant que frères du Christ, et avec tendresse. Dans notre cas, avec humilité aussi, en sachant que nous ne sommes nous-mêmes que des "vases en terre cuite".

(Lk 1,26-38): 

In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth. He was sent to a young virgin who was betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the family of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. The angel came to her and said, «Rejoice, full of grace, the Lord is with you». Mary was troubled at these words, wondering what this greeting could mean.

But the angel said, «Do not fear, Mary, for God has looked kindly on you. You shall conceive and bear a son and you shall call him Jesus. He will be great and shall rightly be called Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the kingdom of David, his ancestor; he will rule over the people of Jacob forever and his reign shall have no end». Then Mary said to the angel, «How can this be if I am a virgin?». And the angel said to her, «The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore, the holy child to be born shall be called Son of God. Even your relative Elizabeth is expecting a son in her old age, although she was unable to have a child, and she is now in her sixth month. With God nothing is impossible». Then Mary said, «I am the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done to me as you have said». And the angel left her.

The Application

The solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Blessed Virgin Mary is partly a revelation of divine mysteries, which invites us to imitate the humanity of the Mother of Jesus, (since we participate perfectly in her humanity) and profit from her son the divinity, which is offered to our humanity. Though the divinization of our humanity is purely a divine gift, as we have seen in the call of Mary, the cooperation of us, is imperative for this transformation.

The call of Mary begins with a salutation and blessing. It is the way God begins His dialogue with the humanity. He blesses us, elevates us and enter into communication with us. It is through the humanity of Jesus that God has elevated our humanity. It is here we find the mystery of immaculate conception, a dignified house for the Incarnated one.  It is in the same spirit of Mary’s availability that we are called to imitate and cooperate with the divine plan. Since God doesn’t wish to work without our Yes, he needs our generosity.

If God has elevated Mary and blessed her, then there is not only a divine need and commandment, but He has put all the hope in this virgin that she won’t deceive Him. God expects the same from us. Immaculate conception is a gift given, so that the Incarnation could happen. Every blessing has its own need and finality. We are expected to find it and respond to it positively.

The dialogue begins with the blessing and assurance of, “do not fear.” God continues to assures us. He knows and understands that this earthly life towards the holiness, is not easy. We can trust Him and put our confidence in Him. He will certainly bring to its accomplishment what He has begun in us. With the shadowing of the Holy Spirit, ‘everything is possible.’ With Mary, shall we say it together, «I am the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done to me as you have said».

Action of the day: Courage, say YES to the Lord.

Today, the Gospel plays a tune made up of three notes. Three notes which, in our society, are not always that well-tuned: one note of doing, one of friendship and another one of coherence of life. Nowadays, we all have very busy lives, but, do we have a plan? Today, when we are navigating through a world of communications, are we capable of being alone in our own company for a while? Today, in the information era, are we letting it shape who we are?

A plan. Mary, a young woman «betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the family of David» (Lk 1:28). Mary has a plan. Of human proportions, evidently. Nevertheless, God comes into her life to bestow on her another project... of divine proportions. Today, He wants to come into our lives too, to give our everyday human tasks divine proportions.

A presence. «Do not fear, Mary» (Lk 1:30). We just do not go and build the first thing that comes into our head! Lest our addiction to “doing” were to become a way to hide a void. Marriage, a life of servitude, our profession, should not mean a leap in the dark. «(...) Full of grace, the Lord is with you» (Lk 1:28). Presence that accompanies and provides a new meaning. Trust in God, which —indirectly— brings us to trust others. Friendship with God that renews our friendship with others, too.

To shape ourselves. Today, when we are confronted with so many stimuli, so often conflicting, it is necessary to give unity and shape to our life. Mary, says saint Louis Mary Grignion, «is the living mould of God». «A sculptor, explains Grignion, can make a statue in two ways: By using his skill, strength, experience and good tools to produce a statue out of hard, shapeless matter; or by making a cast of it in a mould (...). The second is quick, easy, straightforward, almost effortless and inexpensive, but the mould must be perfect and true to life and the material must be easy to handle and offer no resistance». Mary is the great mould of God. Do we turn to Her by being ourselves material that easy to shape?

Texte de l'Évangile (Lc 1,26-38): 

Le sixième mois, l'ange Gabriel fut envoyé par Dieu dans une ville de Galilée, appelée Nazareth, à une jeune fille, une vierge, accordée en mariage à un homme de la maison de David, appelé Joseph; et le nom de la jeune fille était Marie.

L'ange entra chez elle et dit: «Je te salue, Comblée-de-grâce, le Seigneur est avec toi». A cette parole, elle fut toute bouleversée, et elle se demandait ce que pouvait signifier cette salutation. L'ange lui dit alors: «Sois sans crainte, Marie, car tu as trouvé grâce auprès de Dieu. Voici que tu vas concevoir et enfanter un fils; tu lui donneras le nom de Jésus. Il sera grand, il sera appelé Fils du Très-Haut; le Seigneur Dieu lui donnera le trône de David son père; il régnera pour toujours sur la maison de Jacob, et son règne n'aura pas de fin». Marie dit à l'ange: «Comment cela va-t-il se faire, puisque je suis vierge?». L'ange lui répondit: «L'Esprit Saint viendra sur toi, et la puissance du Très-Haut te prendra sous son ombre; c'est pourquoi celui qui va naître sera saint, et il sera appelé Fils de Dieu. Et voici qu'Élisabeth, ta cousine, a conçu, elle aussi, un fils dans sa vieillesse et elle en est à son sixième mois, alors qu'on: “la femme stérile”. Car rien n'est impossible à Dieu». Marie dit alors: «Voici la servante du Seigneur; que tout se passe pour moi selon ta parole». Alors l'ange la quitta.

L’Application

Nous fêtons aujourd’hui l’Immaculée Conception de la Vierge Marie. Cette solennité nous affirme que Dieu a un projet à nous tous, pour notre salut et aussi pour le salut des hommes. Comme Marie et Joseph, il est possible que nous ayons un autre projet à ce que Dieu a voulu. Comme Marie, Il a besoin de notre volonté et notre engagement. Nous devons nous poser cette question, sommes-nous prêts à tout abandonner et dire généreusement OUI au Seigneur ?

Dieu nous bénie et Il nous demande. Il nous demande, parce qu’Il fait confiance en nous. Marie a fait confiance en Dieu.    Elle savait que son OUI confrontera les difficultés, pourtant elle était capable de croire à tout ce que Dieu lui a dit. N’ayons pas peur de ce monde, Dieu est avec nous. Sa grâce nous suffit. Sommes-nous les véritables croyants, chrétiens et pratiquants, ou……..?

La Parole de Dieu est une Parole d’espérance.  Elle est là pour nous construire et reconstruire. Pour cela, Dieu nous donne les signes, les signes de sa présence et de ses œuvres. Pour croire à cette Parole, il faut savoir regarder, écouter, comprendre et mettre en pratique. Devant cette puissance divine, il est sage qu’on dise, « que tout se passe pour moi selon ta parole. »  Agissons-nous selon cette volonté divine ou selon nos intérêts personnels ?

Aujourd'hui, l'Évangile nous joue un concert composé de trois notes. Trois notes qui ne sont toujours pas bien au point dans notre société: celle de l'action, celle de l'amitié et celle de la cohérence dans notre vie. Aujourd'hui, il est vrai que nous faisons beaucoup de choses, mais avons-nous un projet défini? Nous naviguons dans l'univers de la communication, mais y a-t-il de la place dans nos cœurs pour la solitude? Aujourd'hui, nous sommes dans l'ère de l'information, celle-ci nous permet-elle de façonner notre personnalité?

Un projet. Marie, une femme «fiancée à un homme de la maison de David, nommé Joseph» (Lc 1,27). Marie a un projet. Un projet de proportions humaines bien évidemment. Cependant, Dieu fait irruption dans sa vie pour lui présenter un autre projet... de proportions divines! Aujourd'hui aussi Dieu veut rentrer dans nos vies et donner une proportion divine à notre va-et-vient de tous les jours.

Une présence. «Sois sans crainte, Marie» (Lc 1,28). Ne bâtissons pas quelque chose n'importe comment! Car il se pourrait que notre “manie” de faire toujours quelque chose cache un vide. Le mariage, la vie au service des autres et la vie professionnelle ne doivent pas être une échappatoire pour aller de l'avant. «Comblée de grâce, le Seigneur est avec toi» (Lc 1,28). Une présence qui nous accompagne et donne un sens à notre vie. Confiance en Dieu, qui nous donne de surcroît, confiance dans les autres. Amitié avec Dieu qui renouvelle notre amitié avec notre prochain.

Formation. De nos jours, nous recevons tant de stimulants contradictoires, qu'il est nécessaire de donner forme et unité à notre vie. Saint Louis Marie Grignon nous dit que Marie est «le moule vivant de Dieu». Il existe deux manières de faire une sculpture explique-il: une, plus ardue, à coups de ciseaux, et l'autre, en se servant d'un moule. Cette deuxième façon est plus simple. Mais son résultat dépend de la malléabilité de la matière ainsi que de la perfection avec laquelle le moule dessine le portrait. Marie est le moule parfait. Est-ce que nous accourons à Elle en étant matière malléable?

Gospel text

(Mt 9,35-10,1.6-8): 

Jesus went around all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom, and he cured every sickness and disease. When he saw the crowds he was moved with pity, for they were harassed and helpless like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, «The harvest is abundant but the workers are only few. Ask the master of the harvest to send workers to gather his harvest».

Then he called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority over the unclean spirits to drive them out and to heal every disease and sickness. «Go instead to the lost sheep of the people of Israel. Go and proclaim this message: The kingdom of heaven is near. Heal the sick, bring the dead back to life, cleanse the lepers, and drive out demons. You received this as a gift, so give it as a gift».

The Application

God is filled with compassion, because, He is the God of love. It is in this love for the humanity, He is inviting us to participate in His mission. Thus each and every one of us should be always aware that the Lord has already called us through the baptism and has sent us into this world, to accomplish this divine mission of burning the whole world with the fire of divine love.

Jesus is asking us to pray to God, and be always associate ourselves and the mission entrusted to us, with the source of our life, God. He is sending us to harvest, simply to collect what belongs to God, and report to Him, because, everything belongs to Him. Once this truth of belonging is established, we will be faithful to this call and respond to this call positively.

By our daily, social and professional life, we are called to heal, if you are a doctor, to listen, if you are a counsellor, to feed if you are a chef, etc. Thus, through the daily human needs, and by fulfilling the need of our brothers and sisters, we are accomplishing the divine will. To accomplish this divine will, we need not be part of an elite community of contemplatives or religious. It is enough that we realize that we have received everything in life freely as a gift, learn to give and share with those who are in need of them, with the same divine generosity.

Action of the day: Pray and generous.

«Ask the master of the harvest to send workers to gather his harvest»

Today, a week into our preparation for the celebration of Christmas, we see that one of the virtues which we have to work on during Advent is hope. Not in a passive way, like that of someone waiting for a train, but active hope, hope which gets us ready to give all that is needed for Jesus to be born again in our hearts.

We can't be happy just thinking about what it is we are hoping for, we have to think about what it is that God hopes of us. He wants us to follow him, just like he did the apostles. He tells us through Isaiah: «This is the way, walk in it» (Is 30:21, today's first reading). God hopes of us that we will give witness, each one in his own particular situation and circumstances that «the kingdom of heaven is near» (Mt 10:7).

Today's Gospel tells of how Jesus, in front of that huge crowd, felt compassion and said «the harvest is abundant but the workers are only few. Ask the master of the harvest to send workers to gather his harvest» (Mt 9:37-38). He has always wanted to be able to count on us, he wants us, in all our diverse circumstances to become real apostles of the world in which we move and live. The mission for which God sent his son to the world depends on us for its continuation. We find in our present day a mass of desperate and disorientated souls, thirsting for the Good News of Salvation that Christ has brought us, and of which we are the messengers. It is a mission which has been entrusted to every one of us. Conscious of our weaknesses and our failings, we get the support we need from constant prayer and are happy that this way we can collaborate with the plan for redemption that Christ has revealed
