Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Matthieu 16,13-19.

« Pourquoi me persécutes-tu ?

Gospel text (Mt 16,13-19): Jesus came to Caesarea Philippi. He asked his disciples, «Who do people say the Son of Man is?». They said, «For some of them you are John the Baptist, for others Elijah or Jeremiah or one of the prophets». Jesus asked them, «But you, who do you say I am?». Peter answered, «You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God». Jesus replied, «It is well for you, Simon Barjona, for it is not flesh or blood that has revealed this to you but my Father in heaven. And now I say to you: You are Peter (or Rock) and on this rock I will build my Church; and never will the powers of death overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and what you unbind on earth shall be unbound in heaven».

The message

The faith is a gift from God and it is God who has revealed to Peter to proclaim that Jesus is the ‘Son of God.’ At the same time, it is important that we establish a personal relation with God. It is because of this imperative that Jesus Himself is asking Peter to respond to this question, “but you, who do you say I am?” This personal question demands a person response. Without establishing a personal relationship with Jesus, we can’t respond to this question. Jesus did ask him still another personal question which impressed him, “Simon Peter, do you love me more than others?”

Paul had another type of history. “Why do you persecute me? This question too is a very personal and intruding. Incarnation is meant that the humanity be able to re-establish the lost relationship with God. Since this encounter with Jesus, Saul became Paul, a transformed person. Only a personal relationship with God can transform us. It is not the knowledge about or on god, but our intimacy with God, will help us to have a radical change in our personal life.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Marc 5,21-43.

Jésus lui dit alors : « Ma fille, ta foi t’a sauvée.

In English

Scripture: Matthew 8:5-17

5 As he entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, beseeching him 6 and saying, "Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, in terrible distress." 7 And he said to him, "I will come and heal him." 8 But the centurion answered him, "Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, `Go,' and he goes, and to another, `Come,' and he comes, and to my slave, `Do this,' and he does it." 10 When Jesus heard him, he marveled, and said to those who followed him, "Truly, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith. 11 I tell you, many will come from east and west and sit at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, 12 while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth." 13 And to the centurion Jesus said, "Go; be it done for you as you have believed." And the servant was healed at that very moment. 14 And when Jesus entered Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever; 15 he touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and served him. 16 That evening they brought to him many who were possessed with demons; and he cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, "He took our infirmities and bore our diseases."

The message

In different ways, many of us are paralyzed and we don’t have any one to pray for us. It is important to note, if this centurion has addressed the Lord for a slave, this salve was essential for this mater. In our daily life do we feel that our service is essential for others? If they don’t plead for us, it is because we did something not important for them. In this individualistic world, it is also true that many of us don’t feel the need of others and sometime we refuse the service proposed by others.

The faith of this centurion does help us to awake the faith that we have received from our baptism, which is sleeping in us. His self-awareness of being the master of all in his house, does humbles him in front of Jesus, his Master par excellence, who has come to serve the people. Many of us are not aware of what we are and what we do in our daily lives or we walk with false identity.

The third message is very important. ‘The evening’ is a time for rest and a moment of energizing ourselves. In this evening of the gospel, there is a moment of people around Jesus. The children of God work as the heavenly Father. We should bring all the infirmities to Jesus, who has come to heal each and every one of us, not only the physical ailments, but also spiritual.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Matthieu 8,1-4.

Scripture: Matthew 8:1-4

1 When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him; 2 and behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, if you will, you can make me clean." 3 And he stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, "I will; be clean." And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4 And Jesus said to him, "See that you say nothing to any one; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to the people."

The message

‘Jesus came down from the mountain’ has two meanings. The first is the physical clamping down and the other is God coming to visit us. From the mountain, is from His divinity to reach the humanity, so that this humanity may be purified and made divine as God so desired.

In this sense, the demand of the leper and the response of the Lord has a more symbolical and spiritual meaning. Symbolically, we are contaminated by different kind of leprosy like egoism, individualism, etc and God wills to purify us. Spiritually we are children of God and by our sins we have rejected this son-ship. Jesus by His incarnation and resurrection has come to purify our sins and to reestablish once again our filial relation with His Father. All that is expected from us is, to recognize our spiritual and moral leprosy and We should learn to cry to God.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Matthieu 7,21-29.

In English

Scripture: Matthew 7:21-29

21 "Not every one who says to me, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, `Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?' 23 And then will I declare to them, `I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers.' 24 "Every one then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock; 25 and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And every one who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand; 27 and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it." 28 And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, 29 for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.

The message

I would like to meditate on the rain, flood and wind. We wish that our life be calm without these torrents and tempests. We willfully avoid such occasions. However, it is in such moments we discover the depth of our Faith in God. These moments do help us to rebuild our relationship with God in a concrete way. Our illusions fail and we face the truth. Like Agar, the servant of Sarah, who in her misery found the presence of God, we too, if we look towards God in our difficult time, will find Him consoling us and standing behind to us.

If Jesus is asking us to listen and keep His words, it is in the faithfulness to God’s call and vocation that we will find the joy and happiness. His insistence to keep His word is in a way to promise us the deep tranquility and peace of God. Let our words and actions may be coherent to what we are and our desire to be with Him. Thus our love for God would be in truth and in spirit, as Jesus desires us to do.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Luc 1,57-66.80.

Scripture: Luke 1:57-66,80 (alternate readings: Matthew 7:15-20, Luke 1:5-17)

57 Now the time came for Elizabeth to be delivered, and she gave birth to a son. 58 And her neighbors and kinsfolk heard that the Lord had shown great mercy to her, and they rejoiced with her. 59 And on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they would have named him Zechariah after his father, 60 but his mother said, "Not so; he shall be called John." 61 And they said to her, "None of your kindred is called by this name." 62 And they made signs to his father, inquiring what he would have him called. 63 And he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, "His name is John." And they all marveled. 64 And immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, blessing God. 65 And fear came on all their neighbors. And all these things were talked about through all the hill country of Judea; 66 and all who heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, "What then will this child be?" For the hand of the Lord was with him. 80 And the child grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the wilderness till the day of his manifestation to Israel.

The message

We have a wonderful birthday celebration which recalls not only the happiness that God has accorded to the humanity by the birth, but in a special way, the humanity recalls the wonder God has done to the humanity. From the father to the mother, the child and the society all are in joy and the amazement of the presence of God in this Child.

The canticle of Zachariah does remind us this very truth that God never forgets His faithful. We can assure us today with certitude that this God is always with us. How wonderful it would be, if the humanity realizes this truth and respond positively to the call of God for the reconciliation and peace.

In this present world, we need John Baptist to recall to us the very presence of God in us. We need his advice and direction very badly, because the events which pass around us, do recall in us the fear of the absence of God, as if God is not with us. We need the great prophets of old time who stood for justice and peace, even against the powerful kings. We need them to incite in our hearts the need for reconciliation and peace.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Matthieu 7,6.12-14.

Scripture: Matthew 7:6,12-14

6 "Do not give dogs what is holy; and do not throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under foot and turn to attack you. 12 So whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them; for this is the law and the prophets. 13 "Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

The message

Life is filled with choices. The right choice with the right discernment will help us to live our life fully and happily. God wish that we live our life in its fullness and that this life be fruitful to us and to all.

Since God has created us with freedom and liberty, it is important that we take right decision in right moment. The best way of decision process is allowing our intelligence to dominate this process and let the feelings and emotions play in the execution of this decision so that the intelligence may have a human touch.

A wise person will take this rare path, the road less travelled and difficult traverse, than choosing easy and common path. Since we are children of God, we can’t take the common path, rather the path proposed by Jesus. Jesus in turn will become the door of our path, and He will lead us towards the Father, to participate in the fullness of His Joy. It is in Him that we can find the fullness of our happiness. Why to take this precious joy and put it to the dogs and be trampled by others? Why to allow our joy and happiness be conditioned by human created elements?

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Matthieu 7,1-5.

En ce temps-là, Jésus disait à ses disciples : « Ne jugez pas, pour ne pas être jugés ;

In English

Scripture: Matthew 7:1-5

1 "Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, `Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

The message

We all judge and our statements about others are in truth a judgement. Jesus is asking particularly avoid the misjudgments without knowing the details or full truth before us. We can’t know other as they are in their totality. We perceive what is presented to us and what is presented to us need not be the truth. What we have understood from this presentation is limited to our own knowledge and understating capacity. Thus all our judgement is misjudgment and comes with ignorance. It is better to wait for the details and full truth to say something.

Jesus is requesting each and every one of us, to look deep into ourselves and know our abilities, our strength and weakness, etc. This self-knowledge will help us to be humble and grow higher in our personal development. Only if I am able to remove all unwanted elements in my life, will I be able to help others. This self-purification is the must and first step for our growth. Our growth is the best way of collaborating in the accomplishment of the will of the Father. The more we grow in holiness, the more we will be able to accomplish the will of the Father.

Let us imitat Abraham in the obediance and listening to the word of God.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Marc 4,35-41.

Scripture: Mark 4:35-41

35 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, "Let us go across to the other side." 36 And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. 37 And a great storm of wind arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him and said to him, "Teacher, do you not care if we perish?" 39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace! Be still!" And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, "Why are you afraid? Have you no faith?" 41 And they were filled with awe, and said to one another, "Who then is this, that even wind and sea obey him?"

The message

"Who then is this, that even wind and sea obey him?" The ddisciples of the Lord discover Jesus the master of creation, particularly when they were threatened by the wind and the sea Their reproach of," Master, we are lost, this does not bother you? ", though we may be tempted to be identified with these disturbed disciples and make this worry as our won of our present time, it is in truth our own ignorance of the Lord and His love of us. However we can’t deny that we feel the absence of God in our lives. We believe that our prayer is not answered by the Lord. Since we pass in a difficult moment of life and get no direct or indirect answers from the Lord, understandably we justify that God has forgotten us. We curse the day we have born and think that this present life is filled with misery and pain. Certainly we feel isolated and abandoned by the Lord, by allowing us to suffer alone in our solitude. Like Job who went up to ask why the Lord for his misfortunes, we also judge God as unjust and blind. The human tendency will give us reason for our feelings and emotions.

However, in the first reading God does not give an answer, but He raises us with Job and invites us to discover His mystery, calls us to have confidence in His intelligence, and in His love for His creation. We must humbly accept that we can never overtake the divine intelligence and never will know in full how God works in our lives. The total surrender to God’s will and our sublission to His divine love, will help us to understand God and His way of accompanying us in our troubled time. The silence of Jesus is not an inaction or less concern for us. The time will tell us the truth.

Men who have had a divine encounter have acknowledged that God was already in their lives even before this divine encounter and they felt this divine presence more deeply after this divine experience. This encounter transformed them and now they are no longer the same person. We find them totally changed and a new born in God filled with hope and certitude. Like Saul who became Paul, we are invited with Paul not only to discover this loving and compassionate God, but also to reborn in the compassion and mercy of God, which inturn wil transform us radically. In the life of Saint Paul, this transformation is in love that Christ has brought to Paul that love Paul accords in turn to Christ. The transformation happens in this exchange of love.

When we are weak, threatened by the winds of life, God Almighty takes more effort making His direct interventions visible to us, so that we may have faith in Him. The men who attache himself to God, like a branch that attaches to the vine, discover this divine intervention immediately and for us, we need such people to interpret to us this divine intervention, though visible to all, but remains invisible. A man of faith perceives the movements of God, not only in his personal life but also in other, as our father Abraham who recognized the angels of God before his tent, who were passing towards the country of Lot, the cousin of Abraham. We know that this divine intervention was visible to all.

All readings of the day affirm to us a simple, deep, hidden and open truth: God comes to meet men. He will never give us up. We cry or not, He will be there with us. How can a loving Father abandon us or ignore us?

"Passing on the other side" reminds us of the universality of salvation. God wants to save humanity. That is why He asks us to "go to the whole world and proclaim the Good News in the name of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. " Even when we meet storms during this shipwreck of passing to the other side or announcing the Good News, the people of faith cannot get rid of God because they have recognized His trances in their personal life.

"The calming of the storm 'assures us of Christ's victory over evil. We do remember this appeasement in the story of Jonah. Unless and until the heart of a believer finds a place in the heart of Jesus, his/her soul will never be in peace. To believe is to get back to a God who will win for, a victorious God, certainly, but absent and silent to our necked eyes. Faith is to know God "death" and "useless" or scandalous by human judgement and yet live in communion with him, the only source of our joy and happiness. To believe is to fight with certitude, keeping in mind that Jesus did rise from these difficult times and will help us to rise with Him now and on the last day. With Jesus we can face the same struggles against evil and master all the storms of life. May God bless you all.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Matthieu 6,24-34.

Scripture: Matthew 6:24-34

24 "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. 25 "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O men of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, `What shall we eat?' or `What shall we drink?' or `What shall we wear?' 32 For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well. 34 "Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day's own trouble be sufficient for the day.

The message

The creation of the Lord is a community which lives in perfect harmony. The Lord who has made this and entrusted to the humanity, will be there always to accompany His creation. He is asking us to deep into this creation and its beauty which the Lord has accorded to it. If a small little lily is dressed so beautifully, how much more that the Lord has given to us. The difference is that this lily is not able to recognize her beauty, but we are able to discover not only the beauty, but also the source of this beauty.

It is in reconnaissance of this truth that Jesus is asking us to choose God than the money. He doesn’t want us be separated from Him. The providence of the Lord will accompany us till the end of life. Why to complicate the life, when the Lord is with us? Jesus is telling us, “O men of little faith?” Believe in God, He will never abandon you. Learn to live today in its fullness and tomorrow will be bright. Why to dream about the future and regret about the past in later days? Let us learn to surrender ourselves totally to the providence of the Lord; He will take care of us.
