Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Luc 2,41-51.

Scripture: Luke 2:41-52 [alternate reading from Matthew 5:33-37]

41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the Passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom; 43 and when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it, 44 but supposing him to be in the company they went a day's journey, and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintances; 45 and when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking him. 46 After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions; 47 and all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48 And when they saw him they were astonished; and his mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been looking for you anxiously." 49 And he said to them, "How is it that you sought me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?" 50 And they did not understand the saying which he spoke to them. 51 And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart. 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and man.

The message

Yesterday we have solemnly celebrated the feat of Sacred Heart of Jesus. Today we are celebrating the feat of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and also the feat of saint Antony of Padua. Whatever be the feat we have chosen to celebrate, it is important to live our Christian life in love, in Divine love, to precise.

Mary by her contemplation and meditation discovered her son slowly. Today is one such occasion, like anyone of us, she too didn’t understand. Like her, we should learn to keep everything in our heart for meditation and contemplation. Jesus in His simplicity shows us the importance of obedience and respect by obeying His parents and respecting their role in the mediation of the salvation of the world.

In today’s reading for the ordinary day, Jesus is asking us to go beyond the visible realities and find God everywhere. Live a life in a dignified way, which merit to be a life of the children of God. Not to be an ordinary life. Let our YES be Yes and our No to be No. Only if we life in God and in His love, we can live a simple life. I wish you all a very happy feast day.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Matthieu 10,7-13.

In English

Gospel text (Mt 10,7-13): Jesus said to his disciples, «Go and proclaim this message: The kingdom of heaven is near. Heal the sick, bring the dead back to life, cleanse the lepers, and drive out demons. You received this as a gift, so give it as a gift. Do not carry any gold, silver or copper in your purses. Do not carry a traveler's bag, or an extra shirt, or sandals, or walking-stick: workers deserve their living. When you come to a town or a village, look for a worthy person and stay there until you leave. As you enter the house, wish it peace. If the people in the house deserve it, your peace will be on them; if they do not deserve it, your blessing will come back to you».

The message

Like the Apostles we are called to witness our joy as a fruit of our Faith and radical following of Jesus. It is in this Joy that we will be able to announce the Peace and the reconciliation. Jesus has promised us to accompany us through miracles and wonder works, though they may not be visible. Since we are sent by the Lord, the joy and pain should be shared with Jesus and He will be the only one who can take the merit. Thus we have no right what so ever to judge others, particularly in a negative manner, when we are rejected by others. The Lord who has sent us, will take care of them.

All the good missionaries were never tired of announcing the Good News and were always joyful. If we are tired and succumb to the fatigue of missionary life, then we are not doing the mission of the Lord. The people who have received will have the pleasure of sharing what they have and the one, who fails to discover the marvelous work of the Lord in their personal life, will find difficult to share what they have. Jesus is reminding us that all that we have received is from the Lord and it is meant for the mission. How can we refuse to be generous, while receiving everything from the generosity of the Lord?

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Matthieu 5,17-19.

Scripture: Matthew 5:17-19

17 "Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them. 18 For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. 19 Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

The message

Just because Jesus was against the teachers of the Law, this doesn’t however be translated that Jesus is against the Law of Moses. It is true that Jesus was against the law, the law made and interpreted by the elites of His time.

When Jesus says about the accomplishment of the Law, it is the Law of love, the essential of all Laws: Love God with all the force, heart and in truth. Jesus has come to re-establish this fundamental Law.

How Jesus has accomplished this Law? It is on the Cross. God so loved the world that He has send His only begotten Son, not to judge it, but through Him the world may be saved.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Matthieu 5,13-16.

Scripture: Matthew 5:13-16

13 "You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trodden under foot by men. 14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. 15 Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."

The message

Jesus is instructing us with a simple example which can be understood by all. Be a salt, is to be someone to protect this universe and add taste in the life of the people. Being is a light is to remove the darkness, ignorance and anything which limits people to see the truth.

Today let us meditate in which we can be salt to our friends, our brothers and sisters, and how to be the light to the world. In relation to this, there is an intrinsic message, but very important. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." It is not by words that we are asked to announce the Good News, but by our life.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Matthieu 5,1-12.

Scripture: Matthew 5:1-12a

1 Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down his disciples came to him. 2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: 3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 5 "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. 6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. 7 "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. 8 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. 9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. 10 "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 "Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven

The message

We all desire to see God and listen to Him. We all wish to be happy and joyful. Only a person who has lost the sense of life may disagree with these statements. Even a person who doesn’t believe in God, desire deeply to have the joy and happiness in life.

The beatitudes do help us to understand not only the way to happiness, but also how and who can be happy in life. A person with a simple and humble heart, who is ready to share the life without any condition, will see God and receive the kingdom of God. These people will work for peace and reconciliation. They won’t return the violence for violence. They know to keep silence and when to speak. Though all that is being said is accepted without any contestation, we fail to realize the source of such people.

These people live in God and God in them. It is in this presence of God that they are able to be such a virtuous person. Only the person who lives in God can taste this joy and happiness, in its perfection and plenitude. Those who don’t live in God will have it partially and temporarily, because without God, they won’t know the secret of holding this permanently. Only in God, who is Goodness par excellence, can we find the joy and happiness. Let us be wise in our discernment and learn to choose the path of joy and happiness that God proposes to each and every one of us.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Marc 14,12-16.22-26.

Scripture: Mark 14:12-16,22-26 [Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ] (alternate reading: Mark 3:20-35)

12 And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the passover lamb, his disciples said to him, "Where will you have us go and prepare for you to eat the passover?" 13 And he sent two of his disciples, and said to them, "Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you; follow him, 14 and wherever he enters, say to the householder, `The Teacher says, Where is my guest room, where I am to eat the passover with my disciples?' 15 And he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; there prepare for us." 16 And the disciples set out and went to the city, and found it as he had told them; and they prepared the passover. 22 And as they were eating, he took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them, and said, "Take; this is my body." 23 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. 24 And he said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. 25 Truly, I say to you, I shall not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God." 26 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Homily

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ. On this day of Corpus Christi, we are invited at table with the Lord, where He will transform us and let us allow ourselves to be taken by the Holy Spirit. Eucharistic celebration is an exceptional meal and the church where we celebrate it, is a place which brings all of us together, rich and poor, race and caste, as one single people of God for an unexpected feast, but also for an encounter with the Lord that has transformed the Apostles of the Lord that they will cherish it in memory for eternity.

They did not know that this day is going to mark for an eternity. It seems that all happened as Jesus wished. This sequence does reminds us of the election of Saul, the first king of Israel. The Apostles of the Lord, will remember not only the preparation meticulously organized with sequences to come without their knowledge, by someone unknown to them,(….a strange movement happening around them) a moment important, but also every word addressed to the disciples: This is my body and this is my Blood.

A great feast day ends up with a great mourning that the disciples will cherish throughout their life and will bear witness to the Christian community. By the grace of the Holy Spirit this day of mourning will be transformed as a moment of celebration.

On Holy Thursday, everything happens as it should, for a great feast, but the disciples were totally ignorant of something very important event which is going to mark their life. Let us be vigilant of events happening around us, be it an ordinary day or party, an outing or a dialogue, may be a single visit by a stranger. That day may mark your whole life. This is why I urge you my readers that every human encounter is a divine encounter. We must learn to respect people with their history because God is working in us.

The Church proposes the Eucharist celebration as a divine encounter where we remember and celebrate the Body delivered and the Blood poured, a divine food of our souls, the bread of heaven, that we are invited to celebrate and worship. In the Eucharist, God gives each one of us a wonderful opportunity to immerge in His divinity, our humanity purified and elevated in Jesus Christ.

'Be perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect', is not a request by chance, but a just and proper demand of our own human nature. To be human is not to be weak and fragile, as the day the world teaches us, but to be human, is precisely to be divine in this world that God created and found good. Be human means is to be gentile, to be open to newness of life, to be creative, to love and forgive. To be human is to live as a community, understanding each other, appreciating the diversity and the capacity to discover the unity in this diversity. Dear friends, be human, is not to be pathetic or insubstantial. God created us in His image and the Eucharist make us really one such creation that God so desired, right from the creation.

When we celebrate the Body and Blood of the Lord, we celebrate our future and our own history: Like Jesus we give ourselves to others to receive God in us, it is like Jesus who chose to born as an ordinary human being, it is losing our humanity to discover the divine presence in us. The Eucharist is a divine covenant which is renewed for our sanctification. In this Eucharistic celebration, it is not only that we are called to unit ourselves in Christ, but also to form together with others a veritable community of the people of God, which prays and celebrate together.

On this feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, we renew our gratitude for the wonder that we celebrate today in this Eucharist. And we make our own the prayer of the priest before communion: "Let your Body and blood free me from all evil and that I am never separated from you."

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Marc 12,38-44.

In English

Gospel text (Mc 12,38-44): As Jesus was teaching, He also said to them, «Beware of those teachers of the Law who enjoy walking around in long robes and being greeted in the marketplace, and who like to occupy reserved seats in the synagogues and the first places at feasts. They even devour the widow's and the orphan's goods while making a show of long prayers. How severe a sentence they will receive!».

Jesus sat down opposite the Temple treasury and watched the people dropping money into the treasury box; and many rich people put in large offerings. But a poor widow also came and dropped in two small coins. Then Jesus called his disciples and said to them, «Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all those who gave offerings. For all of them gave from their plenty, but she gave from her poverty and put in everything she had, her very living».

The message

This poor lady put everything behind and kept the hope in the Lord. It is her faith in the providence of the Lord, which allowed her to give even the last piece of coin to the Lord. We who depend on the visible signs, gests and words, will find very difficult to understand the deep faith this lady has in the providence of God.

Jesus who goes beyond the visible signs helps us to understand the invisible truth from the visible signs. The baptized are called to go beyond the visible signs and not to depend only on our senses and feelings. The truth is the fruit of wisdom and never from the feelings and emotions. What I feel may not be always true. We need time and space to know the truth. Once we have discovered the truth, we should not doubt like the people of Israel in desert.

It is important to note that only a man of faith, who puts God first, can be generous in its plenitude. Others will give from the plenty. Thus the generosity can’t be ‘de facto’ translated into good virtue; it may be a mere representation of the riches or to retain the good name accorded by the society.

Gospel text (Mc 12,35-37): As Jesus was teaching in the Temple, he said, «The teachers of the Law say that the Messiah is the son of David. How can that be? For David himself, inspired by the Holy Spirit declared: ‘The Lord said to my Lord: sit at my right until I put your enemies under your feet’. If David himself calls him Lord, in what way can he be his son?». Many people came to Jesus and listened to him gladly.

The message

The faith is a gift from God. With this Faith, hope and joy come along. If we refuse to believe that God is there with us, and Jesus is the promised one, then we can’t experience the hope and the joy that this faith can give to us.

Life is filled with choices. Good and bad, joy and sadness, present and past, all are in front of us. The faith in Jesus will help us to choose the good, the joy, and will be able to live in the present time acknowledging the past and looking forward towards the future, without being slave, neither to the past, nor to the future.

Today’s gospel is not dealing whether Jesus is the son David, rather, Jesus is the one sent by the Father to save us. Do we believe that this Jesus is there to save us, or at least do we believe that He is there with us? Since He is the Goodness, let us be prudent in our choice and learn to attach ourselves with this goodness.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Marc 12,28b-34.

Scripture: Mark 12:28-34

28 And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, "Which commandment is the first of all?" 29 Jesus answered, "The first is, `Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one; 30 and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' 31 The second is this, `You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." 32 And the scribe said to him, "You are right, Teacher; you have truly said that he is one, and there is no other but he; 33 and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices." 34 And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And after that no one dared to ask him any question.

The message

Let us not complicate the life by putting laws and guidance, which ignore the meaning and the finality of life. If we put lots of regulations and guidance for a simple life, we may get confused with many choices that we end up with a wrong one, thinking of doing the best and the right one.

Jesus is asking us to simplify our life by orienting ourselves towards God and His will. The veritable adoration that God admires is our love for God and the way that we love Him. To love God, we should learn to love our brothers and sisters. In full sincerity and dedication, if we engage in the service of the humanity that God created, it may transform our life as the best adoration that may please God.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Marc 12,18-27.

The message

Scripture: Mark 12:18-27

18 And Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection; and they asked him a question, saying, 19 "Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife, but leaves no child, the man must take the wife, and raise up children for his brother. 20 There were seven brothers; the first took a wife, and when he died left no children; 21 and the second took her, and died, leaving no children; and the third likewise; 22 and the seven left no children. Last of all the woman also died. 23 In the resurrection whose wife will she be? For the seven had her as wife." 24 Jesus said to them, "Is not this why you are wrong, that you know neither the scriptures nor the power of God? 25 For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 26 And as for the dead being raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God said to him, `I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? 27 He is not God of the dead, but of the living; you are quite wrong."

The message

Life after death is affirmed by Jesus. He seems to suggest that even the Holy Scriptures speak about this life, because God introduced Himself as God of the living. This affirmation does give us the hope that we will live even after the death like our fore fathers.

Life after the death is not a mere continuation of this life, but a life totally different, where we will be directly connected with God, without any mediation. Why to break our head on something beyond our reach? Let us be close to the Scriptures and try to understand all that they teach us. Why to complicate the life which is already complicated in this disturbed world?
