2ème Dimanche de Paque

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Jean 20,19-31.

C’était après la mort de Jésus. Le soir venu, en ce premier jour de la semaine, alors que les portes du lieu où se trouvaient les disciples étaient verrouillées par crainte des Juifs, Jésus vint, et il était là au milieu d’eux. Il leur dit : « La paix soit avec vous ! »
Après cette parole, il leur montra ses mains et son côté. Les disciples furent remplis de joie en voyant le Seigneur.
Jésus leur dit de nouveau : « La paix soit avec vous ! De même que le Père m’a envoyé, moi aussi, je vous envoie. »
Ayant ainsi parlé, il souffla sur eux et il leur dit : « Recevez l’Esprit Saint.
À qui vous remettrez ses péchés, ils seront remis ; à qui vous maintiendrez ses péchés, ils seront maintenus. »
Or, l’un des Douze, Thomas, appelé Didyme (c’est-à-dire Jumeau), n’était pas avec eux quand Jésus était venu.
Les autres disciples lui disaient : « Nous avons vu le Seigneur ! » Mais il leur déclara : « Si je ne vois pas dans ses mains la marque des clous, si je ne mets pas mon doigt dans la marque des clous, si je ne mets pas la main dans son côté, non, je ne croirai pas ! »
Huit jours plus tard, les disciples se trouvaient de nouveau dans la maison, et Thomas était avec eux. Jésus vient, alors que les portes étaient verrouillées, et il était là au milieu d’eux. Il dit : « La paix soit avec vous ! »
Puis il dit à Thomas : « Avance ton doigt ici, et vois mes mains ; avance ta main, et mets-la dans mon côté : cesse d’être incrédule, sois croyant. »
Alors Thomas lui dit : « Mon Seigneur et mon Dieu ! »
Jésus lui dit : « Parce que tu m’as vu, tu crois. Heureux ceux qui croient sans avoir vu. »
Il y a encore beaucoup d’autres signes que Jésus a faits en présence des disciples et qui ne sont pas écrits dans ce livre.
Mais ceux-là ont été écrits pour que vous croyiez que Jésus est le Christ, le Fils de Dieu, et pour qu’en croyant, vous ayez la vie en son nom.

Homélie

Le dimanche dernier nous avons fêté glorieusement la Pâques du Seigneur, la naissance et le fondement de notre foi, la foi chrétienne. Dans l’évangile du jour nous avons pour la première fois qu’une déclaration de foi par un des Apôtres que Jésus est vraiment Dieu : « Mon Seigneur et mon Dieu. » Chaque Dimanche nous profession notre foi et nous déclarons qu’Il est notre Dieu, le Fils unique de Dieu, mort et ressuscité et nous attendons pour son retour définitif.

Si nous regardons les événements qui se passent autour des Apôtres immédiatement après la résurrection, nous pouvons facilement découvrir, le moment fort de la formation des Apôtres. Depuis trois ans ils ont entendu la Parole de Jésus et ils ont étaient les témoins des événements étonnants, mais pourtant c’est aujourd’hui qu’ils commencent à revivre tous ces événements en eux, mais d’une manière différente.

Tout se commence avec un acte purement divin. Jésus entre chez eux, une présence divine s’impose. Jésus qui a reçu le Saint Esprit lors de son Baptême, sortis de l’eau vivante pour annoncer la Bonne Nouvelle, de son arrivé, et aujourd’hui Il partage avec ses Apôtres le même Esprit qui répandait dès le commencement de la création : « Recevez l’Esprit Saint » et Il va les animer toute leur vie et ils Le partageront avec les autres, qui vont recevoir le baptême.

La révolte de Saint Thomas est là-nôtre. Nous voudrions avoir tout dans les mains et nous voudrions nous avancer dans la certitude avec les preuves éprouvées. Nous croyons que cette connaissance avec la certitude nous aidera à vivre notre vie dans la liberté comme les enfants de Dieu. Jésus qui comprend ce comportement humain, vient nous aider à faire comprendre les événements qui se passent, non seulement de l’extérieure, mais aussi tout ce qui se passent en nous. C’est pourquoi Il a dit à Saint Thomas, «Parce que tu m’as vu, tu crois. Heureux ceux qui croient sans avoir vu. » C’est seulement la foi qui est capable de nous aider à surpasser des visibles à l’Invisible.

L’évangile du jour nous dit que la porte s’est trouvée fermer et les Apôtres sont enfermés au-dedans à cause de la peur. Ils se consolent en se rappelant les paroles de Jésus. C’est dans cette écoute et le partage que la Parole de Dieu commence à renaitre en eux. La première communauté chrétienne qui a découvert cette vérité s’implique par une décision radicale : un partage par excellence. Elle prie ensemble et vive ensemble. Une vie radicale, fusionnée par la foi, lui aide à ressentir en elle-même la vraie présence Dieu qui les invite à vivre ensemble avec les autres. Dieu dès le commencement de la création a voulu que l’homme ne soit pas seul.

Evidemment, le caractère qui distingue la communauté est l’amour dont elle partage, non seulement les biens communs mais une vie commune dans sa totalité. En ce dimanche de miséricorde, nous sommes invités à être miséricordieux, car nous avons un Dieu qui nous aime.

En ce dimanche, nous te prions, Seigneur : rends-nous plus disponibles à la force de la foi. Sois avec nous pour que nous soyons plus courageux dans le témoignage. Garde nous plus généreux dans la pratique de la charité fraternelle. « Toi qui es Lumière, toi qui es l’amour, mets en nos ténèbres ton Esprit d’amour. Amen.

19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." 20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you." 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."

24 Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in his side, I will not believe." 26 Eight days later, his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said, "Peace be with you." 27 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing." 28 Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!" 29 Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe." 30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name.

Homily

The last Sunday we celebrated the Easter in a solemn way, which is the birth and foundation of our faith, the Christian faith. In the Gospel of the day we have for the first time a declaration of faith by the Apostle of Jesus that Jesus is truly God: "My Lord and my God. "Every Sunday we proclaim our faith and declare that He is our God, the only begotten Son of God, died and rose again.

If we look so closely the events around the Apostles immediately after the resurrection, we can easily discover the highlight of the formation of the Apostles. For three years they heard the Word of Jesus and they were witnesses of the amazing works and miracles of the Lord, but yet it is now they begin to relive these events in them, but in a different way, which will transform them radically for their life.

Everything starts with a purely divine act. Jesus joined them, a divine presence is imposed. Jesus received the Holy Spirit and today He shares with his apostles the same Spirit that was covering the universe from the beginning of creation: "Receive the Holy Spirit " and this Spirit will animate all their lives and they will share Holy Spirit with all those who believe in Jesus Christ and who will receive baptism.

The revolt of Saint-Thomas is ours. We would like to have everything in our hands and we would like to go forward with proven evidence. We believe that this knowledge with the certainty will help us to live our lives in freedom as children of God. Jesus understands this human desires, comes into our homes, even though the door is closed, to help us to understand the events that are happening not only externally, but also everything happening in us. His response to St. Thomas, "Because you have seen me, you believe. Blessed are those who believe without seeing.” Do help us to understand the importance of going beyond visible realities. "It is only faith that can help us to discover from this visible realities the invisible truth of God’s presence in our lives.

The gospel of the day indicate that the door was closed and the Apostles have locked themselves inside, because of fear. They console themselves by remembering the words of Jesus. It is in this silent hearing and sharing the Word of God, they begin to be reborn in again in Christ.

The first Christian community which discovered this truth has made a radical decision to share everything. They pray together and live together. A radical life merged by faith, help them to feels the real presence God in their life and stimulate them to live together with one other. God from the beginning wanted that man should not be alone. An individual and isolated life is not the life God desires for us.

Obviously, the character that distinguishes the community is the love with which shares not only common property, but everything in their life. In this Sunday of divine mercy, we are called to be merciful because we have a God who loves us.

This Sunday, we pray, Lord, make us more available to the power of faith. Be with us for us to be more courageous in witnessing. Keeps us more generous in the practice of fraternal charity. "You who are Light, you who are love, put your Spirit in our darkness of love. Amen

Marc 16,9-15.

Ressuscité le matin, le premier jour de la semaine, Jésus apparut d’abord à Marie Madeleine, de laquelle il avait expulsé sept démons.
Celle-ci partit annoncer la nouvelle à ceux qui, ayant vécu avec lui, s’affligeaient et pleuraient.
Quand ils entendirent que Jésus était vivant et qu’elle l’avait vu, ils refusèrent de croire.
Après cela, il se manifesta sous un autre aspect à deux d’entre eux qui étaient en chemin pour aller à la campagne.
Ceux-ci revinrent l’annoncer aux autres, qui ne les crurent pas non plus.
Enfin, il se manifesta aux Onze eux-mêmes pendant qu’ils étaient à table : il leur reprocha leur manque de foi et la dureté de leurs cœurs parce qu’ils n’avaient pas cru ceux qui l’avaient contemplé ressuscité.
Puis il leur dit : « Allez dans le monde entier. Proclamez l’Évangile à toute la création

Le message

« Est-il juste devant Dieu de vous écouter, plutôt que d’écouter Dieu ? » voilà une mission vient directement de Dieu. Tous les baptisés sont invité à annoncer la Bonne Nouvelle, non seulement par nos paroles ou discours, mais en acte et en vérité, nous dira saint Jean. C’est dans ce sens-là se justifie le reproche du Seigneur : manque de foi et la dureté de cœur.

Nous ne savons pas pourquoi le Seigneur a choisi une femme qui était dominée par les Esprits démoniaque pour annoncer la Bonne Nouvelle. Tout ce que nous savons est ce que tous sont invités à annoncer la Bonne Nouvelle, non pas par une obligation imposée, mais par notre propre vocation baptismale entant qu’enfants de Dieu.

Scripture: Mark 16:9-15

9 Now when he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. 10 She went and told those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept. 11 But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it. 12 After this he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. 13 And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them. 14 Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they sat at table; and he upbraided them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. 15 And he said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation.

The message

We are children of God and are invited to live freely witnessing our own identity in a dignified way. Since the incarnation and the resurrection are the essential ingredients of our Christian faith, if we don’t announce the resurrection and believe in the God who died for us, our faith will have no sense.

The Apostles of the Lord always asked this fundamental question: what is the will of the Father, who has sent Jesus to die for us? Listening to this God who has given us life through the death and resurrection of Jesus is more important than pleasing the human will, which search for the mortal finalities.

By choosing Mary Madeline as the first witness of the resurrection and the first missionary to announce the Good News, Jesus is inviting us too, though sinners and weak we may be, to participate in His mission, the accomplishment of the will of the Father.

saint Jean 21,1-14.

En ce temps-là, Jésus se manifesta encore aux disciples sur le bord de la mer de Tibériade, et voici comment.
Il y avait là, ensemble, Simon-Pierre, avec Thomas, appelé Didyme (c’est-à-dire Jumeau), Nathanaël, de Cana de Galilée, les fils de Zébédée, et deux autres de ses disciples.
Simon-Pierre leur dit : « Je m’en vais à la pêche. » Ils lui répondent : « Nous aussi, nous allons avec toi. » Ils partirent et montèrent dans la barque ; or, cette nuit-là, ils ne prirent rien.
Au lever du jour, Jésus se tenait sur le rivage, mais les disciples ne savaient pas que c’était lui.
Jésus leur dit : « Les enfants, auriez-vous quelque chose à manger ? » Ils lui répondirent : « Non. »
Il leur dit : « Jetez le filet à droite de la barque, et vous trouverez. » Ils jetèrent donc le filet, et cette fois ils n’arrivaient pas à le tirer, tellement il y avait de poissons.
Alors, le disciple que Jésus aimait dit à Pierre : « C’est le Seigneur ! » Quand Simon-Pierre entendit que c’était le Seigneur, il passa un vêtement, car il n’avait rien sur lui, et il se jeta à l’eau.
Les autres disciples arrivèrent en barque, traînant le filet plein de poissons ; la terre n’était qu’à une centaine de mètres.
Une fois descendus à terre, ils aperçoivent, disposé là, un feu de braise avec du poisson posé dessus, et du pain.
Jésus leur dit : « Apportez donc de ces poissons que vous venez de prendre. »
Simon-Pierre remonta et tira jusqu’à terre le filet plein de gros poissons : il y en avait cent cinquante-trois. Et, malgré cette quantité, le filet ne s’était pas déchiré.
Jésus leur dit alors : « Venez manger. » Aucun des disciples n’osait lui demander : « Qui es-tu ? » Ils savaient que c’était le Seigneur.
Jésus s’approche ; il prend le pain et le leur donne ; et de même pour le poisson.
C’était la troisième fois que Jésus ressuscité d’entre les morts se manifestait à ses disciples.

Le message

« Je m’en vais à la pêche. » il n’y rien de grave dans cet engagement. Pourtant cet engagement nous affirme que les disciples du Seigneur ont abandonné la mission confiée et ils recommencent à revivre leur vie du passé. Une vie sans le Seigneur, n’a produira aucun fruit. Le Seigneur revient à les joindre et pour dire qu’il est important qu’ils comprennent la mission confiée et qu’ils écoutent au seigneur.

Le Seigneur enseigne ses disciples autour la table, un moment agréable. Comme Il est allé chercher ses disciples lorsqu’ils étaient désespérés, Il reviendra nous chercher. Il nous n’abandonnera jamais. Tout ce qu’Il nous demande ce que nous soyons sincères et fidèles.

When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his clothes, for he was stripped for work, and sprang into the sea. 8 But the other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards off. 9 When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire there, with fish lying on it, and bread. 10 Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish that you have just caught." 11 So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, a hundred and fifty-three of them; and although there were so many, the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, "Come and have breakfast." Now none of the disciples dared ask him, "Who are you?" They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. 14 This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.

The message

It is in the same situation that the Lord has promised to Peter that He will make him fishers of men. Sadly Peter falls back once again in to the same situation, no fish after a long work. Luckily, Jesus comes back to rise him up. When we are totally taken by shock or disappointment, we should think twice to take a serious decision. Peter took a wrong decision in his disappointment. Without Jesus, even a hard doesn’t produce enough fruit and with Jesus, He makes us to produce with little effort.

Jesus who knows our heart, doesn’t judge us, when we take a wrong decision in life. He comes again and again to console us and to encourage us to be converted and listen to Him. With Him, we can be what we are in full freedom. Even if we scold him, He will never abandon us. Even if the mother can forget her child, but I don’t forget you, is the promise that the Lord has done to us. Since He is faithful, we can count on Him.

saint Luc 24,35-48.

En ce temps-là, les disciples qui rentraient d’Emmaüs racontaient aux onze Apôtres et à leurs compagnons ce qui s’était passé sur la route, et comment le Seigneur s’était fait reconnaître par eux à la fraction du pain.
Comme ils en parlaient encore, lui-même fut présent au milieu d’eux, et leur dit : « La paix soit avec vous ! »
Saisis de frayeur et de crainte, ils croyaient voir un esprit.
Jésus leur dit : « Pourquoi êtes-vous bouleversés ? Et pourquoi ces pensées qui surgissent dans votre cœur ?
Voyez mes mains et mes pieds : c’est bien moi ! Touchez-moi, regardez : un esprit n’a pas de chair ni d’os comme vous constatez que j’en ai. »
Après cette parole, il leur montra ses mains et ses pieds.
Dans leur joie, ils n’osaient pas encore y croire, et restaient saisis d’étonnement. Jésus leur dit : « Avez-vous ici quelque chose à manger ? »
Ils lui présentèrent une part de poisson grillé
qu’il prit et mangea devant eux.
Puis il leur déclara : « Voici les paroles que je vous ai dites quand j’étais encore avec vous : Il faut que s’accomplisse tout ce qui a été écrit à mon sujet dans la loi de Moïse, les Prophètes et les Psaumes. »
Alors il ouvrit leur intelligence à la compréhension des Écritures.
Il leur dit : « Ainsi est-il écrit que le Christ souffrirait, qu’il ressusciterait d’entre les morts le troisième jour,
et que la conversion serait proclamée en son nom, pour le pardon des péchés, à toutes les nations, en commençant par Jérusalem.
À vous d’en être les témoins.

Le message

Humainement il était difficile aux disciples de digérer la résurrection. Ils ont étaient ignorants de la vérité. Jésus revient à les éclairer, à ouvrir leur intelligence et les disciples d’Emmaüs ont tout réparé.

Jésus recommence l’histoire : « Avez-vous ici quelque chose à manger ? » N’est-il pas dans le partage du pain que les disciples d’Emmaüs ont découvert le Ressuscité ?

Le message est clair : par la Croix que Dieu a voulu nous sauvé. Comme Pierre nous sommes invité à annoncer la Bonne Nouvelle et le besoin de se convertir, mais sans porter aucun jugement.

Scripture: Luke 24:35-48

35 Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread. 36 As they were saying this, Jesus himself stood among them. 37 But they were startled and frightened, and supposed that they saw a spirit. 38 And he said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do questionings rise in your hearts? 39 See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself; handle me, and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones as you see that I have." 41 And while they still disbelieved for joy, and wondered, he said to them, "Have you anything here to eat?" 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate before them. 44 Then he said to them, "These are my words which I spoke to you, while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled." 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47 and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things.

The message

The disciples haven’t come in terms with the resurrection. Jesus is coming again and again to explain the Holy Scriptures. The message of the Holy Scripture is that God has chosen the Cross to save us. Still today we don’t know why exactly, why God wanted to communicate to us His love for us through this cross. May be that we don’t hesitate take our crosses.

The second point in the reading is the habitual manner of teaching and the time and place choses by Jesus: at the table. A good meal shared is a good life shared. It is in this sharing and openness that the disciples of Emmaus have discovered the Resurrected one. Eucharistic is the better place to discover the Lord.

The third and the important message is that we remain always connected with God through the Holy Scriptures. God speaks to us through these readings. To understand all these, we need the strange visitor to explain the meaning and message of the Holy Scriptures.

(Lc 24,13-35):

Le même jour, deux disciples faisaient route vers un village appelé Emmaüs, à deux heures de marche de Jérusalem, et ils parlaient ensemble de tout ce qui s'était passé. Or, tandis qu'ils parlaient et discutaient, Jésus lui-même s'approcha, et il marchait avec eux. Mais leurs yeux étaient aveuglés, et ils ne le reconnaissaient pas.

Jésus leur dit: «De quoi causiez-vous donc, tout en marchant?». Alors, ils s'arrêtèrent, tout tristes. L'un des deux, nommé Cléophas, répondit: «Tu es bien le seul de tous ceux qui étaient à Jérusalem à ignorer les événements de ces jours-ci». Il leur dit: «Quels événements?». Ils lui répondirent: «Ce qui est arrivé à Jésus de Nazareth: cet homme était un prophète puissant par ses actes et ses paroles devant Dieu et devant tout le peuple. Les chefs des prêtres et nos dirigeants l'ont livré, ils l'ont fait condamner à mort et ils l'ont crucifié. Et nous qui espérions qu'il serait le libérateur d'Israël! Avec tout cela, voici déjà le troisième jour qui passe depuis que c'est arrivé. A vrai dire, nous avons été bouleversés par quelques femmes de notre groupe. Elles sont allées au tombeau de très bonne heure, et elles n'ont pas trouvé son corps; elles sont même venues nous dire qu'elles avaient eu une apparition: des anges, qui disaient qu'il est vivant. Quelques-uns de nos compagnons sont allés au tombeau, et ils ont trouvé les choses comme les femmes l'avaient dit; mais lui, ils ne l'ont pas vu». Il leur dit alors: «Vous n'avez donc pas compris ! Comme votre coeur est lent à croire tout ce qu'ont dit les prophètes! Ne fallait-il pas que le Messie souffrît tout cela pour entrer dans sa gloire?». Et, en partant de Moïse et de tous les Prophètes, il leur expliqua, dans toute l'Écriture, ce qui le concernait.

Quand ils approchèrent du village où ils se rendaient, Jésus fit semblant d'aller plus loin. Mais ils s'efforcèrent de le retenir: «Reste avec nous: le soir approche et déjà le jour baisse». Il entra donc pour rester avec eux. Quand il fut à table avec eux, il prit le pain, dit la bénédiction, le rompit et le leur donna. Alors leurs yeux s'ouvrirent, et ils le reconnurent, mais il disparut à leurs regards. Alors ils se dirent l'un à l'autre: «Notre coeur n'était-il pas brûlant en nous, tandis qu'il nous parlait sur la route, et qu'il nous faisait comprendre les Écritures?».

A l'instant même, ils se levèrent et retournèrent à Jérusalem. Ils y trouvèrent réunis les onze Apôtres et leurs compagnons, qui leur dirent: «C'est vrai! le Seigneur est ressuscité: il est apparu à Simon-Pierre». A leur tour, ils racontaient ce qui s'était passé sur la route, et comment ils l'avaient reconnu quand il avait rompu le pain.

Le message

Jésus n’abandonne personne. Tous ceux et celles qui le cherchent sincèrement le trouverons. Comme ces disciples, nous sommes tellement pris par les événements que nous trouvons difficiles à vivre au présent. Le dialogue nous montre la profondeur de leur découragement et aussi leur aveuglement.

Tout se dévoile dans l’accueille et dans le partage. Une rencontre purement humaine est devenue une rencontre véritablement divine. Toute rencontre nous transforme. Les mêmes disciples qui ont quitté la ville en tristesse, retournent maintenant vers leurs frères tout joyeux.

Gospel text (Lc 24,13-35): Two disciples of Jesus were going to Emmaus, a village seven miles from Jerusalem, and they talked about what had happened. While they were talking and wondering, Jesus came up and walked with them, but their eyes were held and they did not recognize him.

He asked, «What is this you are talking about?». The two stood still, looking sad. Then one named Cleophas answered, «Why, it seems you are the only traveller in Jerusalem who doesn't know what has happened there these past few days». And he asked, «What is it?». They replied, «It is about Jesus of Nazareth. He was a prophet, you know, mighty in word and deed before God and the people. But the chief priests and our rulers sentenced him to death. They handed him over to be crucified. We had hoped that he would redeem Israel. It is now the third day since all this took place. It is true that some women of our group have disturbed us. When they went to the tomb at dawn, they did not find his body; they came to tell us that they had seen a vision of angels who told them that Jesus was alive. Some friends of our group went to the tomb and found everything just as the women had said, but they did not see him». He said to them, «How dull you are, how slow of understanding! You fail to believe the message of the prophets. Is it not written that the Christ should suffer all this and then enter his glory?». Then starting with Moses and going through the prophets, He explained to them everything in the Scriptures concerning himself.

As they drew near the village they were heading for, Jesus made as if to go farther. But they prevailed upon him, «Stay with us, for night comes quickly. The day is now almost over». So he went in to stay with them. When they were at table, he took the bread, said a blessing, broke it and gave each a piece. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; but He vanished out of their sight. And they said to each other, «Were not our hearts filled with ardent yearning when He was talking to us on the road and explaining the Scriptures?».

They immediately set out and returned to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and their companions gathered together. They were greeted by these words: «Yes, it is true, the Lord is risen! He has appeared to Simon!». Then the two told what had happened on the road and how Jesus made himself known when he broke bread with them.

The message

The disciples of Emmaus do help us to understand the importance of opening ourselves to the divine scriptures. It is in this reading that the disciples discover the importance of Jesus’ incarnation and the hope of Israel. To understand what is written, we need God’s grace.

Every human encounter transforms us. When it is a divine encounter, the change will be radical. The same disciples, who were running away with disappointments and discouragements, decide to return to the starting point, full of joy and hope. If we are able to transform all our human encounters as divine encounters, we may experience the same radical change in our personal life.

All that happened with the ambiance of allowing other to take a place with us, in our table and in our intellectual and spiritual journey. Only if we learn to have faith in others that we may be able to understand identify and cherish the divine encounters.

En ce temps-là, Marie Madeleine se tenait près du tombeau, au-dehors, tout en pleurs. Et en pleurant, elle se pencha vers le tombeau.
Elle aperçoit deux anges vêtus de blanc, assis l’un à la tête et l’autre aux pieds, à l’endroit où avait reposé le corps de Jésus.
Ils lui demandent : « Femme, pourquoi pleures-tu ? » Elle leur répond : « On a enlevé mon Seigneur, et je ne sais pas où on l’a déposé. »
Ayant dit cela, elle se retourna ; elle aperçoit Jésus qui se tenait là, mais elle ne savait pas que c’était Jésus.
Jésus lui dit : « Femme, pourquoi pleures-tu ? Qui cherches-tu ? » Le prenant pour le jardinier, elle lui répond : « Si c’est toi qui l’as emporté, dis-moi où tu l’as déposé, et moi, j’irai le prendre. »
Jésus lui dit alors : « Marie ! » S’étant retournée, elle lui dit en hébreu : « Rabbouni ! », c’est-à-dire : Maître.
Jésus reprend : « Ne me retiens pas, car je ne suis pas encore monté vers le Père. Va trouver mes frères pour leur dire que je monte vers mon Père et votre Père, vers mon Dieu et votre Dieu. »
Marie Madeleine s’en va donc annoncer aux disciples : « J’ai vu le Seigneur ! », et elle raconta ce qu’il lui avait dit.

Le message

« Femme, pourquoi pleures-tu ? Qui cherches-tu ? » Cherchez et vous le trouverez. Marie Madeleine l’a trouvé vivant, même si elle l’a cherché parmi les morts. Jésus qui a compris l’intention de Marie, s’adresse à Marie personnellement en lui invitant à découvrir le Ressuscité.

Chaque rencontre divine nous transforme et elle nous confie une mission à accomplir : témoigner. « J’ai vu le Seigneur. » Quelle joie ! La conséquence et le fruit de la mission est cette joie. C’est pourquoi les missionnaires étaient heureux.

Une Eglise qui n’annonce pas la Bonne Nouvelle perdra le sens de son existence. N’oublions pas que nous sommes appelées à témoigner notre joie.

The message

It is quite possible that we may be distracted by our own sorrows and pains, like Mary Madeline. If our love is sincere and our search is deep, we will be able to identify the Voice of the Lord, though it may take time to enter into the inner silence. When the Lord spoke and called, Mary surrendered. It is in this freedom of giving ourselves fully to the Lord that we become the missionaries.

Every encounter transforms us. Mary, who reached Jesus through the Apostles, is called to enkindle in them the hope of the resurrection. The divine encounters transform us from mere seekers to transmitters, from learners to teachers. It is in this sense that we should take our failures, pains and sufferings.

The weeping Mary couldn’t see Jesus, even though Jesus was close to her. Jesus always takes the initiative, by calling each and every one of us by our name. Are we ready to listen to Him and respond to Him positively?

Ceux-ci, après s’être réunis avec les anciens et avoir tenu conseil, donnèrent aux soldats une forte somme
en disant : « Voici ce que vous direz : “Ses disciples sont venus voler le corps, la nuit pendant que nous dormions.”
Et si tout cela vient aux oreilles du gouverneur, nous lui expliquerons la chose, et nous vous éviterons tout ennui. »
Les soldats prirent l’argent et suivirent les instructions. Et cette explication s’est propagée chez les Juifs jusqu’à aujourd’hui.

Le message

Ce n’est pas les Apôtres qui sont formés par le Seigneur annoncent la Bonne Nouvelle, mais les femmes qui aimaient le Seigneur ont été choisi d’être les première missionnaires. Après avoir célébré la résurrection du Seigneur, annonçons-nous la Bonne Nouvelle et avons-nous le même amour pour le Seigneur?

La fête de la Lumière et de l’espérance nous invite à témoigner notre joie et elle nous demande de partager cette joie avec nos frères et sœurs. Lors du baptême nous avons promis de garder cette Lumière allumée. Est-il l’actualité du jour ?

The message

Faith is a free gift of God. Only people filled with love can identify this faith and only such people can feel the joy that this Faith give us. It is in this love for the Lord that these women receive the Good News and become the first missionaries of the Good News.

In this male dominated society, Jesus has taught us to put confidence in all those love the Lord and these women have become our model. Like them Jesus is sending each and every one of us to announce the Good News. Have we received this mission in joy and are we ready to accomplish the will of the resurrected?

Le premier jour de la semaine, Marie Madeleine se rend au tombeau de grand matin ; c’était encore les ténèbres. Elle s’aperçoit que la pierre a été enlevée du tombeau.
Elle court donc trouver Simon-Pierre et l’autre disciple, celui que Jésus aimait, et elle leur dit : « On a enlevé le Seigneur de son tombeau, et nous ne savons pas où on l’a déposé. »
Pierre partit donc avec l’autre disciple pour se rendre au tombeau.
Ils couraient tous les deux ensemble, mais l’autre disciple courut plus vite que Pierre et arriva le premier au tombeau.
En se penchant, il s’aperçoit que les linges sont posés à plat ; cependant il n’entre pas.
Simon-Pierre, qui le suivait, arrive à son tour. Il entre dans le tombeau ; il aperçoit les linges, posés à plat,
ainsi que le suaire qui avait entouré la tête de Jésus, non pas posé avec les linges, mais roulé à part à sa place.
C’est alors qu’entra l’autre disciple, lui qui était arrivé le premier au tombeau. Il vit, et il crut.
Jusque-là, en effet, les disciples n’avaient pas compris que, selon l’Écriture, il fallait que Jésus ressuscite d’entre les morts.

Homélie

Il fait encore sombre au matin de Pâque. Marie Madeleine rempli d’amour pour Jésus s’est rendue au tombeau et elle découvre le tombeau vide, mais rempli des signes et d’espérance. C’est Jean que le Seigneur aimait été capable de pouvoir traduire le vide en espérance.

La résurrection est un fruit de la Croix et de la mort. Sans passer la mort, nous ne pouvons pas espérer la résurrection. L’incarnation et la résurrection sont inspirées par l’amour divin, où Dieu a voulu renouveler son alliance sainte pour que nous vivions notre vie pleinement. Vivre notre vie pleinement est vivre en Dieu, c'est-à-dire vivre dans l’amour et dans le pardon. Pardon est une expression de l’amour. C’est dans cet amour que Jésus pardonne le monde qui le rejette habituellement.

Aujourd’hui est une fête de la lumière, où la mort est convaincue par la résurrection. Est une fête de l’espérance pour ceux et celles qui s’engagent pour la paix. Même si la marche vers la paix est lente, la résurrection nous assure, que dans ce chemin de la Croix pleine de patience et de pardon que nous verrons la résurrection. La violence peut supprimer les actes qui rendent la violence visible, mais elle-même est violente, donc la paix ne peut pas naître dans cette violence. La résurrection nous montre un bon chemin de non violence qui est capable de faire naître la paix permanente dans ce monde.

Tous les baptisés sont nés dans le Seigneur à travers leur baptême. Donc nous sommes les enfants de Dieu. C’est vrai que la sainteté qui demeure en nous, ne se rende pas visible dans notre vie quotidienne. Mais sachons le, la sainteté ne cherche pas une publicité, elle reste dans un endroit tranquille et discret. Dieu travaille dans un cœur de paix et de tranquillité car Dieu est la PAIX. Saint Paul nous rappelle que puisque nous avons participé au baptême du Seigneur, nous sommes déjà ressuscités avec lui. C’est pourquoi pour les chrétiens, la mort n’est pas la fin de la vie, mais est un commencement d’une vie nouvelle, une vie éternelle où nous verrons le Seigneur face à face.

Dans ce monde qui est désespéré, nous sommes appelés à être témoins de cette espérance d’en haut, dont les apôtres et ces femmes sont les témoins. Dans cette fête de Pâques nous avons un mot qui se répète dans les chants et dans les prières : ‘alléluia’. Nous avons raison de chanter Alléluia. Parce qu’au centre de notre foi, il y a cette assurance que Jésus est ressuscité. Que ce mot fasse un écho dans notre vie quotidienne. Que cette fête nous rende heureux et qu’il nous fasse un peuple joyeux, remplit d’espérance et de Paix. Amen.

Homily

Since forty days we were preparing for this great day and we are here, in front of this tomb of the Lord with these ladies, looking for Jesus among the dead. It is worth to look at these women very closely and try to enter into their heart to find out what exactly they are living inside. Filled with discouragement, broken heart with collapsed dreams, and all seem to lead to a final non end.

Many of us may find ourselves in their place, with many such collapsed dreams and disappointments. It is there God surprises us. It is here that a heart which loves the Lord and deep faith in His presence in the personal life, will find a consolation and the radiant light which shines in the darkness of human heart.

Certainly, if we allow ourselves to be dominated with the disappointments and failures, we may run outside, still looking for the Lord among the death, like these women, filled with love for the Lord with less faith in the resurrected. However, Lord always surprises. He does wonders, when we don’t expect. They went in search for the dead, and the Lord surprised them with His resurrection. He continues to surprises us and we continue to search for Him among the dead. Shall we give a try and look towards the future with hope and confidence?

The feast of the Resurrection is finding the Lord in an empty place and taking a risky road with confidence and hope. We all try and have a strong desire to search and find Him, the reason with all its intelligence, emotions with all its sentiments should stop, pointing us towards some unknown destination. Only love which is infused by faith, is capable of leading us towards deeper and higher destination than the reason and emotions. This Faith in the resurrected will help us to walk not only in hope with lots of expectations, but also with confidence, of assuring us that all that we search for, is already given to us.

John saw the empty tomb and believed. He looked the tomb with faith. With simple necked eyes, we can’t see the invisible presence of the Lord. Though all saw an empty tomb, only John found that in this emptiness, there were living signs, which spoke thousand times about the risen Lord. The Lord has buried the death eternally. To discover this hidden and revealed truth, we need to look everything with an eye of faith.

Dear brothers and sisters, this feast gives us the Faith, which is the foundation of our hope and confidence. This feast of light, enlighten us the life after the death. This feast is the hope of every Christian believer. We learn from this feast that the Cross is the only door of our salvation. Let us learn to take it as part of our life, because, the Lord will transform all our crosses in to resurrection. I wish you all a very happy and holy Easter.

En ce temps-là, l’un des Douze, nommé Judas Iscariote, se rendit chez les grands prêtres
et leur dit : « Que voulez-vous me donner, si je vous le livre ? » Ils lui remirent trente pièces d’argent.
Et depuis, Judas cherchait une occasion favorable pour le livrer.
Le premier jour de la fête des pains sans levain, les disciples s’approchèrent et dirent à Jésus : « Où veux-tu que nous te fassions les préparatifs pour manger la Pâque ? »
Il leur dit : « Allez à la ville, chez un tel, et dites-lui : “Le Maître te fait dire : Mon temps est proche ; c’est chez toi que je veux célébrer la Pâque avec mes disciples.” »
Les disciples firent ce que Jésus leur avait prescrit et ils préparèrent la Pâque.
Le soir venu, Jésus se trouvait à table avec les Douze.
Pendant le repas, il déclara : « Amen, je vous le dis : l’un de vous va me livrer. »
Profondément attristés, ils se mirent à lui demander, chacun son tour : « Serait-ce moi, Seigneur ? »
Prenant la parole, il dit : « Celui qui s’est servi au plat en même temps que moi, celui-là va me livrer.
Le Fils de l’homme s’en va, comme il est écrit à son sujet ; mais malheureux celui par qui le Fils de l’homme est livré ! Il vaudrait mieux pour lui qu’il ne soit pas né, cet homme-là ! »
Judas, celui qui le livrait, prit la parole : « Rabbi, serait-ce moi ? » Jésus lui répond : « C’est toi-même qui l’as dit ! »

Homélie

« Ce jour-là sera pour vous un mémorial……. D’âge en âge vous le fêterez » Et nous fêtons la même fête, un mémorial du sang versé. Chaque célébration de l’Eucharistie est un mémorial de cet événement où le peuple d’Israël est sauvé par le Seigneur et par sa croix et par sa résurrection il nous a sauvés. Les apôtres nous l’ont transmis et quand nous célébrons cette Eucharistie ensemble avec nos enfants, nous le leurs transmettons.

Aujourd’hui Jésus est cet agneau immolé et il commence à le reconstruire avec le lavement de pieds de ses disciples. Cet abaissement jusqu’à mourir, à mourir sur la croix n’est pas acceptable pour ses apôtres. Pierre s’exprime « Toi, Seigneur, tu veux me laver les pieds !......Tu ne me laveras pas les pieds ; non, jamais ! » Comment pouvons-nous accepter cette humilité et cet abaissement de Dieu-même au service du peuple. Il n’est pas venu pour être servi, mais pour servir et donner sa vie pour les autres.

Ce jeudi saint nous sommes invités à revenir à l’essential du cœur de la foi, la foi chrétienne et à remettre Jésus au centre de notre vie. Le corps peut vivre sans nourriture pour un moment, mais l’habituelle absence de cette nourriture sera mortelle pour ce corps. Pareille pour les âmes des hommes. L’Eucharistie est la seule nourriture qui peut nourrir cette âme et faire revivre Jésus en nous.

Avec l’Eucharistie Jésus a établi l’ordre de sacerdoce. Ce sont les prêtres qui nous aident à renouveler cette alliance sainte que Jésus à fait en notre nom avec son Père pour notre salut. C’est pourquoi les prêtres fêtent ce jour là comme leur fête. Nous avons besoin de ces prêtres pour ce sacrifice. Aujourd’hui prions pour la vocation et pour vos prêtres présents ici dans cette église. J’ai besoin de vos prières et votre soutien pour vivre ma vie pleinement dans la plénitude de la sainteté. Que je prenne cette croix de Jésus, votre croix en moi, pour que vous puissiez participer au salut que le Seigneur nous propose.

Et nous pouvons prier ainsi avec moi.

Nous te prions, Seigneur ; Donne aux prêtres force et courage pour la mission que tu leur confies. Et donne à tous les croyants de reconnaître et d’accueillir ce don de l’Eucharistie et du sacerdoce qui leur est offert. Donne-nous de vivre de ton amour afin qu’il remplisse nos vies.

1 Now before the feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. 2 And during supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him, 3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, 4 rose from supper, laid aside his garments, and girded himself with a towel. 5 Then he poured water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which he was girded.

6 He came to Simon Peter; and Peter said to him, "Lord, do you wash my feet?" 7 Jesus answered him, "What I am doing you do not know now, but afterward you will understand." 8 Peter said to him, "You shall never wash my feet." Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part in me." 9 Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!" 10 Jesus said to him, "He who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but he is clean all over; and you are clean, but not every one of you." 11 For he knew who was to betray him; that was why he said, "You are not all clean."

12 When he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and resumed his place, he said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you? 13 You call me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one anothers feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you.

Homily

Today’s celebration orients us toward the Lord's Passover. It is the last event of the ministry of Jesus, an event that will make the Church to live through these Apostles of the Lord. This event will form the Apostles definitely to be missionaries and they will start to be after receiving the Holy Spirit. It is in this event is inaugurated for us the eternal life. And here, the new Adam gives us the spiritual food: this is my body and this is my Blood. The Apostles will remember and repeat this as a memory in all their missionary life.

Saint John tells us that the disciples of the Lord knew the importance of this event: "He who had loved his own who were in the world loved them to the end ........." It is in this divine love that the Lord has established the Eucharist. Each time we participate in the Eucharist, we experience the love that asks us to share it. The Lord's passion is a passion of love.

What is the message of the day for the daily application? "If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet to others. "We have to put ourselves at the service of others. Just like Jesus who has left behind the divine garment by participating in humanity through his incarnation, and takes a linen of service in humility by washing the feet of his disciples, we too as his disciples must learn to empty ourselves, particularly our interest, our good, our well-being, etc for the accomplishment of the will of the Father.

Like Judas who betrayed the Lord, and Peter, who will even deny his Master three times, and we too are able to fail. So we will need to maintain this divine life in us through the love that gives. As I told you that this love is given in the service and in humility.

It is quite possible that we understand nothing in our present life. Yet we are called by Jesus to be like him. The transformation expected in the Eucharist is a transformation of the heart that must love in action, agreeing to serve, by agreeing to be humble.

When we celebrate Holy Thursday, we often forget that the dark night of the Mount of Olives, to which Jesus comes with his disciples, is also a part of that night. He enters to purify it. If we wake with the Lord as He asks us to do, we can find even in his solitude, he is fully united with the Father, like a branch that is united to the vine.

In this union of prater, the pure human will, will transform into the divine will, the submission to freedom. A free man gives freely in love. That is why Jesus gives us a new commandment, "Love one another as I have loved you. "Church asks us to discover that love in the washing of feet, in the Holy Cross and invites us to share in his resurrection. I wish you all a meaningful celebration.

En ce temps-là, au cours du repas que Jésus prenait avec ses disciples, il fut bouleversé en son esprit, et il rendit ce témoignage : « Amen, amen, je vous le dis : l’un de vous me livrera. »
Les disciples se regardaient les uns les autres avec embarras, ne sachant pas de qui Jésus parlait.
Il y avait à table, appuyé contre Jésus, l’un de ses disciples, celui que Jésus aimait.
Simon-Pierre lui fait signe de demander à Jésus de qui il veut parler.
Le disciple se penche donc sur la poitrine de Jésus et lui dit : « Seigneur, qui est-ce ? »
Jésus lui répond : « C’est celui à qui je donnerai la bouchée que je vais tremper dans le plat. » Il trempe la bouchée, et la donne à Judas, fils de Simon l’Iscariote.
Et, quand Judas eut pris la bouchée, Satan entra en lui. Jésus lui dit alors : « Ce que tu fais, fais-le vite. »
Mais aucun des convives ne comprit pourquoi il lui avait dit cela.
Comme Judas tenait la bourse commune, certains pensèrent que Jésus voulait lui dire d’acheter ce qu’il fallait pour la fête, ou de donner quelque chose aux pauvres.
Judas prit donc la bouchée, et sortit aussitôt. Or il faisait nuit.
Quand il fut sorti, Jésus déclara : « Maintenant le Fils de l’homme est glorifié, et Dieu est glorifié en lui.
Si Dieu est glorifié en lui, Dieu aussi le glorifiera ; et il le glorifiera bientôt.
Petits enfants, c’est pour peu de temps encore que je suis avec vous. Vous me chercherez, et, comme je l’ai dit aux Juifs : “Là où je vais, vous ne pouvez pas aller”, je vous le dis maintenant à vous aussi.
Simon-Pierre lui dit : « Seigneur, où vas-tu ? » Jésus lui répondit : « Là où je vais, tu ne peux pas me suivre maintenant ; tu me suivras plus tard. »
Pierre lui dit : « Seigneur, pourquoi ne puis-je pas te suivre à présent ? Je donnerai ma vie pour toi ! »
Jésus réplique : « Tu donneras ta vie pour moi ? Amen, amen, je te le dis : le coq ne chantera pas avant que tu m’aies renié trois fois.

Le message

Jésus est à table avec ses disciples. Mettons-nous avec Lui et ressentons en nous son sentiment. Il est totalement bouleversé, comme nous devant sa mort. Il mange un dernier repas avec ses disciples qu’Il a aimé tellement.

En sachant avant, tout ce qui va passer, la trahison de Judas Iscariote, sa mort, etc, et aussi les désarrois de ses disciples après sa mort, Il fixe son regard sur l’accomplissement de la volonté du Père, le point finale de l’incarnation.

Le Seigneur laisse non seulement Judas Iscariote libre, mais aussi Pierre. Il faut savoir revenir. Comme Pierre, faisons confiance à la miséricorde de Dieu, et nous serons sauvés. La glorification se trouve non seulement dans cette confiance et mais aussi à la fidélité.

Gospel Reading: John 13:21-33,36-38

21 When Jesus had thus spoken, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, "Truly, truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me." 22 The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he spoke. 23 One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was lying close to the breast of Jesus; 24 so Simon Peter beckoned to him and said, "Tell us who it is of whom he speaks." 25 So lying thus, close to the breast of Jesus, he said to him, "Lord, who is it?" 26 Jesus answered, "It is he to whom I shall give this morsel when I have dipped it." So when he had dipped the morsel, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. 27 Then after the morsel, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, "What you are going to do, do quickly." 28 Now no one at the table knew why he said this to him. 29 Some thought that, because Judas had the money box, Jesus was telling him, "Buy what we need for the feast"; or, that he should give something to the poor.30 So, after receiving the morsel, he immediately went out; and it was night.

31 When he had gone out, Jesus said, "Now is the Son of man glorified, and in him God is glorified; 32 if God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and glorify him at once. 33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, `Where I am going you cannot come.' 36 Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, where are you going?" Jesus answered, "Where I am going you cannot follow me now; but you shall follow afterward." 37 Peter said to him, "Lord, why cannot I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you." 38 Jesus answered, "Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly, I say to you, the cock will not crow, till you have denied me three times.

The message

Jesus is at table with His disciples, the last moment of His life on the earth, the definitive meal which His disciples will remember eternally, a surrounding filled with emotions and we find Jesus troubled very deep in His heart.

It is an important moment for Jesus, for He knows what is exactly to happen and an important moment for the disciples , because they will find here the source of their hope and foundation of their faith.

For us, it is Judas and Peter who become a model to imitate. Peter in a positive way: we will do like him and Judas in a negative way: never repeat in our life. It is not what they have done which carries much importance for Jesus, because Jesus knows that we are weak. What’s important here is the question of coming back. Peter believed in the mercy of God and Judas believed in his unworthiness. Like the prodigal son, we should learn to say, I will rise and come back to my Father and Jesus never fails us.
