Évangile de Jésus Christ selon

saint Matthieu 11,11-15.

Amen, je vous le dis : Parmi ceux qui sont nés d’une femme, personne ne s’est levé de plus grand que Jean le Baptiste ; et cependant le plus petit dans le royaume des Cieux est plus grand que lui.
Depuis les jours de Jean le Baptiste jusqu’à présent, le royaume des Cieux subit la violence, et des violents cherchent à s’en emparer.
Tous les Prophètes, ainsi que la Loi, ont prophétisé jusqu’à Jean.
Et, si vous voulez bien comprendre, c’est lui, le prophète Élie qui doit venir.
Celui qui a des oreilles, qu’il entende !

Le message

Nous nous préparons à accueillir le Seigneur dans notre cœur. Dans cette préparation nous ne sommes pas seuls. Dieu nous accompagne à travers nos amis, nos frères et sœurs et Il nous prépare à cet événement qui va venir.

La voix du désert est une voix de Dieu. Dieu nous parle et particulièrement lorsque nous nous ressentons seuls, isolés, ou abandonnés. Il nous demande de faire confiance en sa bonté et en sa générosité. Il nous dit et redit, « ne craint pas », « je ne t’abandonnerai pas », etc. Il nous invite à mettre notre joie dans le Seigneur. « Il est tendresse et pitié, lent à la colère et plein d’amour. »

Si nous nous ne convertissons pas, comment pouvons-nous découvrir cet amour divin, un amour sans condition ?

Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has risen no one greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and men of violence take it by force. 13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John; 14 and if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come.15 He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

The message

“Fear not” is the message of the day. The Lord Himself will come to save us. Though we may be feeling that we are abandoned or isolated or ignored in our personal or professional or family life, Jesus is asking us to put all our trust in the goodness and generosity of His Father.

It is in this Goodness of God that we are called to get converted and repent our sins. Like John the Baptist, there are many people around us who are crying with loud voice, and since we put conditions in life, like Pharisees, very often we reject this call to conversion.

Our preparation is thus essentially consist in recognizing this voice of the desert, the voice of God, calling each and every one of us, through our brothers and sisters, to take a radical step of following Jesus, in His love, love for the Father and for us.

Without this radical conversion and repentance, we can never be able to taste this Divine love. Though proposed freely, we should dress ourselves correctly with virtues, as the dress-code imposed upon us, for the great feast of Christmas.

« Prenez sur vous mon joug..., et vous trouverez le repos »

L'Esprit Saint donnera aux justes la paix parfaite dans l'éternité. Mais déjà maintenant il leur donne une paix très grande lorsqu'il allume en leur cœur le feu céleste de la charité. L'apôtre Paul dit en effet : « L'espérance ne trompe pas, car l'amour de Dieu a été répandu dans nos cœurs par l'Esprit Saint qui nous a été donné » (Rm 5,5). La véritable et même la seule paix des âmes en ce monde consiste à être rempli de l'amour divin et animé de l'espérance du ciel au point que l'on en vienne à considérer comme peu de chose les succès ou les revers de ce monde, à se dépouiller complètement des désirs et des convoitises de ce monde, et à se réjouir des injures et persécutions subies pour le Christ, de sorte que l'on puisse dire avec l'apôtre Paul : « Nous mettons notre fierté dans l'espérance de la gloire de Dieu. Plus encore, nous mettons notre fierté dans les épreuves » (Rm 5,2).



Il se trompe celui qui imagine trouver la paix dans la jouissance des biens de ce monde, dans les richesses. Les troubles fréquents d'ici-bas et la fin même de ce monde devraient convaincre cet homme qu'il a posé les fondations de sa paix sur le sable (Mt 7,26). Au contraire, tous ceux qui, touchés par le souffle de l'Esprit Saint, ont pris sur eux le joug très bon de l'amour de Dieu et qui, à son exemple, ont appris à être doux et humbles de cœur, jouissent dès maintenant d'une paix qui est déjà l'image du repos éternel.

Homily 12 for Pentecost Eve

“Take my yoke upon your shoulders… Your souls will find rest.”

The Holy Spirit will give the righteous perfect peace in eternity. But already now, he gives them very great peace when he enkindles the heavenly fire of love in their heart. For the apostle Paul said: “This hope will not leave us disappointed, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” (Rom 5:5) The true and even the only peace of souls in this world consists in being filled with divine love and animated by the hope of heaven to the point of coming to consider the successes and failures of this world as unimportant, of being completely stripped of the desires and lusts of this world, and of rejoicing in the offenses and persecutions suffered for Christ, so that one can say with the apostle Paul: “We boast of our hope for the glory of God. But not only that – we even boast of our afflictions!” (Rom 5:2)

The person who imagines that he will find peace in the enjoyment of the goods of this world, in riches, is mistaken. The frequent troubles here below and even the end of this world should convince that person that he has built the foundations of his peace on sand (Mt 7:26). On the contrary, all who, touched by the breath of the Holy Spirit, have taken upon themselves the very good yoke of God’s love and who, following his example, have learned to be gentle and humble of heart, begin now to enjoy a peace, which is already the image of eternal rest.

En ce temps-là, l’ange Gabriel fut envoyé par Dieu dans une ville de Galilée, appelée Nazareth,
à une jeune fille vierge, accordée en mariage à un homme de la maison de David, appelé Joseph ; et le nom de la jeune fille était Marie.
L’ange entra chez elle et dit : « Je te salue, Comblée-de-grâce, le Seigneur est avec toi. »
À cette parole, elle fut toute bouleversée, et elle se demandait ce que pouvait signifier cette salutation.
L’ange lui dit alors : « Sois sans crainte, Marie, car tu as trouvé grâce auprès de Dieu.
Voici que tu vas concevoir et enfanter un fils ; tu lui donneras le nom de Jésus.
Il sera grand, il sera appelé Fils du Très-Haut ; le Seigneur Dieu lui donnera le trône de David son père ;
il régnera pour toujours sur la maison de Jacob, et son règne n’aura pas de fin. »
Marie dit à l’ange : « Comment cela va-t-il se faire puisque je ne connais pas d’homme ? »
L’ange lui répondit : « L’Esprit Saint viendra sur toi, et la puissance du Très-Haut te prendra sous son ombre ; c’est pourquoi celui qui va naître sera saint, il sera appelé Fils de Dieu.
Or voici que, dans sa vieillesse, Élisabeth, ta parente, a conçu, elle aussi, un fils et en est à son sixième mois, alors qu’on l’appelait la femme stérile.
Car rien n’est impossible à Dieu. »
Marie dit alors : « Voici la servante du Seigneur ; que tout m’advienne selon ta parole. » Alors l’ange la quitta.

Le message

La fête de l’Immaculée conception est une fête de notre espérance. Marie est sauvée déjà par la mort de son Fils, et en elle l’humanité est sauvée. Aujourd’hui notre saint père fera l’ouverture de l’année de miséricorde, le vrai visage de l’Eglise universelle, un visage que Marie a porté en elle-même comme membre de cette Eglise, sainte et catholique. Comme elle, nous sommes invités à l’image de son Fils, à être miséricordieux. Dieu a fait confiance en elle, elle a fait confiance à son Fils et nous sommes demandés de faire confiance en son Fils, comme elle, la mère de Dieu.

Sa fidélité à la Parle nous inspire et stimule. Sa disponibilité au service de sa cousine, Elizabeth, nous assure son intersession lorsque nous serons besoin d’elle. Elle intercèdera pour nous auprès de son Fils. Celle qui a accueilli la Parole annoncée par l’ange du Seigneur, nous demande d’accueillir son Fils dans notre cœur, et de mettre sa Parole en pratique : « Faite tout ce qu’il vous dira. »

26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. 28 And he came to her and said, "Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!" 29 But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be. 30 And the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there will be no end." 34 And Mary said to the angel, "How shall this be, since I have no husband?" 35 And the angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. 36 And behold, your kinswoman Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible."38 And Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." The message

On this solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, we are invited to participate into the holiness of Jesus. Just like God prepared Marie to receive Jesus in her, God continues prepare us to receive His Son into our hearts. Many of us are not internally prepared to say YES like Mary. In Mary God has showed us that the salvation of the humanity will be from the Death of her son, and Mary was the first to really profit from the death, even before the death of Jesus.

God had immense confidence in Mary to bring the Incarnated to the world and He continues to ask us to carry this Son to the world. This day has once more particularity because the Holy Father will open the year of mercy symbolically by opening the door of the Basilica of Saint Peter. Just like Mary who was the visage of the divine Mercy, we are called to represent this divine mercy, in and through the holy Church. The more we are merciful and available the needy, the more this merciful visage of God will be realized and actualised in the world.

It is thus expected from us to be converted by this divine mercy and learn to say YES to the will of the Father. May this year of mercy be a moment of grace to each and every one of us. It is the time to forgive and get reconciled not only with God, but in large with one another. Like Mary, may we too be filled with the grace of God.

Un jour que Jésus enseignait, il y avait dans l’assistance des pharisiens et des docteurs de la Loi, venus de tous les villages de Galilée et de Judée, ainsi que de Jérusalem ; et la puissance du Seigneur était à l’œuvre pour lui faire opérer des guérisons.
Arrivent des gens, portant sur une civière un homme qui était paralysé ; ils cherchaient à le faire entrer pour le placer devant Jésus.
Mais, ne voyant pas comment faire à cause de la foule, ils montèrent sur le toit et, en écartant les tuiles, ils le firent descendre avec sa civière en plein milieu devant Jésus.
Voyant leur foi, il dit : « Homme, tes péchés te sont pardonnés. »
Les scribes et les pharisiens se mirent à raisonner : « Qui est-il celui-là ? Il dit des blasphèmes ! Qui donc peut pardonner les péchés, sinon Dieu seul ?»
Mais Jésus, saisissant leurs pensées, leur répondit : « Pourquoi ces pensées dans vos cœurs ?
Qu’est-ce qui est le plus facile ? Dire : “Tes péchés te sont pardonnés”, ou dire : “Lève-toi et marche” ?
Eh bien ! Afin que vous sachiez que le Fils de l’homme a autorité sur la terre pour pardonner les péchés, – Jésus s’adressa à celui qui était paralysé – je te le dis, lève-toi, prends ta civière et retourne dans ta maison. »
À l’instant même, celui-ci se releva devant eux, il prit ce qui lui servait de lit et s’en alla dans sa maison en rendant gloire à Dieu.
Tous furent saisis de stupeur et ils rendaient gloire à Dieu. Remplis de crainte, ils disaient : « Nous avons vu des choses extraordinaires aujourd’hui ! »

Le message

« Nous avons vu des choses extraordinaires aujourd’hui ! » Les choses extraordinaires nous attirent et Dieu se révèle dans les choses ordinaires. Il transforme les choses ordinaires en nous comme une chose extraordinaire, s’Il trouve la foi, la foi en ce Dieu qui nous aime à travers Jésus, le Christ. Il le commence à nous pardonner, nous pardonner de nos péchés. Une purification est impérative pour une transformation extraordinaire.

Sans une purification interne, la purification externe, ne peut pas nous rendre pure. C’est pourquoi Jésus insiste à nous convertir. Dans notre vie nous pouvons avoir deux regards différents ; un des pharisiens et des docteurs de la loi, les élites de la société et l’autre le regard du peuple ordinaire qui ont reconnu la merveille de Dieu. Un regard avec la foi non seulement nous aidera à découvrir les merveilles de Dieu, il nous amènera à la gloire de Dieu.

Sans reconnaitre les merveilles de Dieu dans notre vie personnelle, nous ne pouvons pas transformer le monde et certainement nous ne verrons pas la lumière dont nous parle le prophète Isaïe.

Scripture: Luke 5:17-26

17 On one of those days, as he was teaching, there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem; and the power of the Lord was with him to heal. 18 And behold, men were bringing on a bed a man who was paralyzed, and they sought to bring him in and lay him before Jesus; 19 but finding no way to bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down with his bed through the tiles into the midst before Jesus. 20 And when he saw their faith he said, "Man, your sins are forgiven you." 21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to question, saying, "Who is this that speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God only?" 22 When Jesus perceived their questionings, he answered them, "Why do you question in your hearts? 23 Which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say, 'Rise and walk?' 24 But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins" --he said to the man who was paralyzed-- "I say to you, rise, take up your bed and go home." 25 And immediately he rose before them, and took up that on which he lay, and went home, glorifying God. 26 And amazement seized them all, and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, "We have seen strange things today."

The message

Jesus saw what was invisible to our naked eyes: the inner blindness which crippled this person to receive the physical healing. This inner blindness is able to lead us to utter darkness, though we may be burning before the heavy sun. Many of us are crippled, not because of our external or physical illness, rather this inner darkness, which blinds us before the light. Jesus is telling us that the Faith in Him can remove this inner blindness.

While meditating with the theme of repentance or conversion to prepare ourselves to receive the Little Baby in a dignified way, we are looking into our inner self, the blindness of our heart, very often contaminated by the goodness of the material world. The Pharisees and the elites of the society thought that they were doing right in front of the law of the day. However they failed to see beyond these laws, the human being, the suffering of the people, imposed by the same law.

Jesus has come to liberate us from these darkness. Like Saint Ambrose who has helped Saint Agustin to discover the light, we too can be liberated, only if we allow ourselves to be guided by the gospel values and go beyond simple visible realties to the invisible truths of life. The repentance and personal conversion are imperative for this preparation and to receive the LIGHT. Only then we will hear from Jesus, "I say to you, rise, take up your bed and go home."

Luc 3,1-6.

L’an quinze du règne de l’empereur Tibère, Ponce Pilate étant gouverneur de la Judée, Hérode étant alors au pouvoir en Galilée, son frère Philippe dans le pays d’Iturée et de Traconitide, Lysanias en Abilène,
les grands prêtres étant Hanne et Caïphe, la parole de Dieu fut adressée dans le désert à Jean, le fils de Zacharie.
Il parcourut toute la région du Jourdain, en proclamant un baptême de conversion pour le pardon des péchés,
comme il est écrit dans le livre des oracles d’Isaïe, le prophète :
« Voix de celui qui crie dans le désert : Préparez le chemin du Seigneur, rendez droits ses sentiers.
Tout ravin sera comblé, toute montagne et toute colline seront abaissées ; les passages tortueux deviendront droits, les chemins rocailleux seront aplanis;
et tout être vivant verra le salut de Dieu. »

Homélie

Dimanche dernier et toute la semaine je vous ai proposé le thème comme veiller et prier. Aujourd’hui et pour la semaine je vous proposerai le thème: la préparation et la conversion. Tous les deux vont ensemble. Dans la première lecture le prophète Isaïe nous demande de mettre en nous le manteau de la justice de Dieu, une justice qui cherche non seulement l’égalité, mais aussi le besoin de tous. Préparons ce chemin de justice, avec la compassion et la miséricorde de Dieu. En vérité, ce n’est pas nous qui allons le préparer, mais le Seigneur Jésus qui va le faire. Nous allons nous associer à cette préparation par notre engagement positive à l’établissement de cette justice de Dieu. Elle va rassembler tout le monde comme une seule famille, qui partage tout également. Cette famille sera une écoule d’amour et de pardon.

Dieu sera le centre de cette famille. Il va la conduire dans la joie, à a lumière de sa gloire, avec sa miséricorde et sa justice. Puisque nous sommes les membres de cette famille céleste, nous devons apprendre à nous habiller avec cette lumière de la gloire de Dieu. C’est-à-dire, nous devenons par nos actes et nos paroles, la gloire de Dieu. Saint Jean nous dire, nous devons nous aimer, non seulement par les discours, mais par les acte et en vérité.

Nous savons que ce travail est un travail que Jésus a déjà commencé par son incarnation. Celui qui a commencé en nous un si beau travail, le continuera jusqu’à son achèvement au jour où reviendra le Christ Jésus, nous dit saint Paul dans la deuxième lecture. Il a besoin de nous et il faut nous convertir pour que nous puissions nous mettre à son service. Il continue, « Je demande que votre amour vous fasse progresser de plus en plus dans la pleine connaissance et en toute clairvoyance pour discerner ce qui est important. Ce discernement identifie la voix du désert. Une voix qui crie sans arrêt en annonçant le baptême de conversion.

La voix du désert, est une voix de Dieu qui nous invite à nous préparer à accueillir le nouveau-né, le Fils unique qui va naître en nous, dans notre cœur d’une manière mystérieuse, certes dans notre faiblesse, la faiblesse de l’humanité, dans la finalité, pour que nous puissions participer à sa divinité, et que nous devenions les hommes de Dieu, l’homme par excellence, un visage parfait de Dieu, le Dieu de miséricorde.

Il faut donc nous remettre sur le bon chemin, un chemin d’amour. C’est un passage du fatalisme à l’espérance, du doute à la foi, du repli sur soi à l’ouverture. L’espérance chrétienne, c’est de croire que Dieu est à l’œuvre, même quand tout va mal. Il agit dans notre cœur et Il nous appel à la joie et à l’espérance.

1 In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, 2 in the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness; 3 and he went into all the region about the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 4 As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low, and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; 6 and all flesh shall see the salvation of God."

Homily

Last Sunday and throughout that week I proposed the theme ‘watch and pray’ to meditate. We were watching our inner life with the Lord and praying together to prepare ourselves to welcome the Child Jesus. It is a moment of joy filled with hope. The Advent season is essentially a time of hope, because we believe that the Lord who came to save us, is coming each and every day to visit the humanity through our brothers and sisters.

However, many of us don’t experience this happiness and hope that the season propose to us. Thus for this week I propose the theme: preparation and conversion. The preparation is essentially to prepare ourselves, our inner being after sufficiently watching and praying, we chose the best way to go further in our spiritual journey towards the great event, of the past (Incarnation), of present (Jesus coming in our hearts) and the future (His second coming). Thus in this preparation, conversion is the essential ingredient, without which, we will never have the joy that the great feast offer to us.

Both preparation and conversion go together. In the first reading the prophet Isaiah asks us to us to cloth ourselves with God's justice, a justice that seeks not only equality but also responds every need of the humanity, not equally, but according their needs. Preparation is thus in a way calls us to prepare this path of justice, divine justice with compassion and mercy of God.

In truth, it is not we who will prepare it, but the Lord Jesus. We are called to associate ourselves with this preparation by our positive commitment to the establishment of the justice of God. This justice will bring everyone together as one family, sharing everything, making all big and small, as part of this great family of God, and we become the children of God. This family will be the school of love and forgiveness that every child of God will be imperatively called to inherit.

God will be the centre of this family. He will lead her into joy, to the light of His glory, with His mercy and justice. Since we are the members of the heavenly family, we must learn to dress us with the light of God's glory. That is to say, we become by our actions and our words, living a witnessing life and our life in its totality become God's glory. John tell us, we must love not only by words, but by deed and in truth.

We know this work of establishing the Kingdom of God is not of present time. Jesus has already inaugurated by His incarnation and He continues this work through us. He who has begun in us such a beautiful work, continue to completion at the day when Jesus will return gloriously, says St. Paul in the second reading. He needs us and we must convert ourselves so that we can put ourselves at His service. Saint Paul continues, "I ask that your love makes you grow more and more in full knowledge and all insight to discern what is important.” This discernment identifies the voice of the desert. A voice crying constantly announcing the baptism of repentance.

The voice of the desert, is a voice of God who invites us to prepare ourselves to welcome the new born, the Only Begotten Son to be born in us, in our heart in a mysterious way, certainly in our weakness, the weakness of the humanity, so that we can participate in His divinity, and we become men of God, the man par excellence, a perfect face of God to the world, the God of mercy.

We must therefore put us back on the right path, a path of love. This conversion is a passage from fatalism to hope, from doubt to faith, from self-oriented to other-oriented, opening ourselves to others. Christian hope is to believe that God is at work, even when everything goes wrong, God will never disappoint us. He continues to work in and through us. Thus the Advent season is call to the joy and hope that God promise to us. Let us prepare to repent and get on the right path of justice and peace. Let us believe that God is at work in us.

Matthieu 9,35-38.10,1.5a.6-8.

En ce temps-là, Jésus parcourait toutes les villes et tous les villages, enseignant dans leurs synagogues, proclamant l’Évangile du Royaume et guérissant toute maladie et toute infirmité.
Voyant les foules, Jésus fut saisi de compassion envers elles parce qu’elles étaient désemparées et abattues comme des brebis sans berger.
Il dit alors à ses disciples : « La moisson est abondante, mais les ouvriers sont peu nombreux.
Priez donc le maître de la moisson d’envoyer des ouvriers pour sa moisson. »
Alors Jésus appela ses douze disciples et leur donna le pouvoir d’expulser les esprits impurs et de guérir toute maladie et toute infirmité.
Ces douze, Jésus les envoya en mission avec les instructions suivantes :
« Allez plutôt vers les brebis perdues de la maison d’Israël.
Sur votre route, proclamez que le royaume des Cieux est tout proche.
Guérissez les malades, ressuscitez les morts, purifiez les lépreux, expulsez les démons. Vous avez reçu gratuitement : donnez gratuitement. »

Le message

« Vous avez reçu gratuitement : donnez gratuitement. » Nos donnons tout ce que nous avons reçu du Seigneur. La gratuité de la vie, est le fondement de la foi chrétienne. Dieu nous a tout donné. Il nous a tout donné, pur que nous construisions son Royaume, une royaume de paix et de miséricorde.

Mathieu nous présente le sentiment du Seigneur ; saisi de compassion. Veillons dans notre vie que tout ce que nous faisons, que ce soit animé par cette compassion divine. Le refus de la guerre, de la violence que nous ressentons fortement dans ce monde malgré qu’il soit envahi par la peur et vengeance, sont les signes qui nous poussent à moissonner.

Proclamons courageusement que le royaume des Cieux est tout proche. Que nous ne soyons pas désespérés comme les autres, qui n’ont pas de foi. Jésus nous a donné l’Esprit Saint, qui nous accompagne éternellement. Laissons-nous conduire par Lui et nous verrons le Royaume de Dieu, qui s’installe progressivement devant nos yeux.

9:35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every infirmity. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." 10:1 And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every infirmity. 6 "Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And preach as you go, saying, `The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying, give without pay.

The message

We all dream with prophet Isaiah, a New Jerusalem. This New Jerusalem is possible, only if we learn the basic truth of life: you received without paying, give without pay. This realization of divine gratuity in our life and the necessity of employing these for the construction of the Kingdom of God, will actualize this New Jerusalem.

Many at time we don’t realize the enormous gifts that we have received in life. We look into our own emptiness and spend all our energy to fulfil it, without allowing Jesus to fill it. Jesus has chosen each and every one of us to be His messengers of compassion. Be a compassionate person in our life. Let us not be self-oriented, rather other-oriented, by giving what we have.

We should not be discouraged, just like others without faith. If we don’t feel that the Kingdom of God is at hand and are not able to identify the visible signs of this Kingdom, like people who work for peace and reconciliation, thirst for forgiveness, the aversion of war and violence, as the way to hope, how can we be able to announce this Kingdom? The Holy Spirit is here to accompany us and let us allow Him to guide us and animate us. Through His guidance, we will see the transformation of ourselves and of this world.

Matthieu 7,21.24-27.

Ainsi, celui qui entend les paroles que je dis là et les met en pratique est comparable à un homme prévoyant qui a construit sa maison sur le roc.
La pluie est tombée, les torrents ont dévalé, les vents ont soufflé et se sont abattus sur cette maison ; la maison ne s’est pas écroulée, car elle était fondée sur le roc.
Et celui qui entend de moi ces paroles sans les mettre en pratique est comparable à un homme insensé qui a construit sa maison sur le sable.

Le message

En ce jour de la fête d’un grand missionnaire en Inde, nous saluons tant d’hommes et de femmes qui ont consacré leur vie à l’annonce de l’évangile. Ces gens-là ont vécu l’évangile dans leur vie. Ce n’est seulement leur parole qui a attiré l’attention du peuple, mais aussi leur vie dans sa totalité.

Veillons notre vie intérieure avant qu’on ne commence à annoncer l’évangile. Notre vie doit d’être cohérente à ceux que nous annonçons. Regardons sur qui avons-nous construit notre maison ? Sur le roc d’amour et de foi qui nous font vivre avec nos frères et sœurs dans le partage, dans le bon accueil, dans l’écoute, etc ou……...

Si notre vie n’est pas fondée sur la foi qui s’exprime dans l’amour prochain, devant les torrents et les souffles de la vie, tout ce que nous avons construit, seront détruit devant nos yeux. Prions que nous soyons fidèles à la Parole de Dieu et que nous arrivions à mettre en pratique tout ce que nous avons entendu du Seigneur.

The message

While celebrating the feast of one of the great missionaries of our time, saint Francis Xavier, we remember fondly all the missionaries of our present time who consecrate their life in announcing the gospel by their witnessing life. It is not only their words which brought the people into the faith, but their personal life have sown the path to follow.

Since our theme is watching and praying, it is important that we watch our personal life. Let us ask ourselves, does our life is coherent to what we are announcing. At the time of Jesus, many of the elites of the society were living a double life, one for their inner circle and the other for the visibility of the society. In this modern world, if our inner life is not coherent to what we proclaim, we may end up in counter witnessing the gospel.

Let us thus watch that our life be built on the rock of love and faith. If our life is built on the rock of love and faith, the floods and winds of life will never be able to shake all that we do and amidst the opposition, we will continue to do the good work that we have started. If not, by little troubled moments, even what we have constructed will be destroyed before eyes. Let us pray that we remain always connected with the Lord, be able to listen all that He wishes to communicate to us and the courage to put into practice all that He has taught us in our life.

If my reader is near Chennai, do extend a helping hand to the people who are suffering. If we are away from Chennai, let us not forget to pray for the people who suffer and exent a financial support to the NGOs like Vincent de Paul, who engage in distributing all that is avaible to them.

Matthieu 15,29-37.

Jésus partit de là et arriva près de la mer de Galilée. Il gravit la montagne et là, il s’assit.
De grandes foules s’approchèrent de lui, avec des boiteux, des aveugles, des estropiés, des muets, et beaucoup d’autres encore ; on les déposa à ses pieds et il les guérit.
Alors la foule était dans l’admiration en voyant des muets qui parlaient, des estropiés rétablis, des boiteux qui marchaient, des aveugles qui voyaient ; et ils rendirent gloire au Dieu d’Israël.
Jésus appela ses disciples et leur dit : « Je suis saisi de compassion pour cette foule, car depuis trois jours déjà ils restent auprès de moi, et n’ont rien à manger. Je ne veux pas les renvoyer à jeun, ils pourraient défaillir en chemin. »
Les disciples lui disent : « Où trouverons-nous dans un désert assez de pain pour rassasier une telle foule ? »
Jésus leur demanda : « Combien de pains avez-vous ? » Ils dirent : « Sept, et quelques petits poissons. »
Alors il ordonna à la foule de s’asseoir par terre.
Il prit les sept pains et les poissons ; rendant grâce, il les rompit, et il les donnait aux disciples, et les disciples aux foules.
Tous mangèrent et furent rassasiés. On ramassa les morceaux qui restaient : cela faisait sept corbeilles pleines.

Le message

Quelle relation pouvons-nous tirer dans cet évangile pour notre thème de la semaine ‘veiller et prier’ qui va nous accompagner dans notre préparation à Noël? En regardant cet évangile autrement, nous ne pouvons pas ignorer le regard de Jésus et le regard des disciples. Tous ont faim et Jésus regarde tout ce que nous avons et les disciples regardent tout ce que nous n’avons pas. La grande différence de Jésus et de ses disciples dans la manière donc on regarde les événements qui se passent autour de nous est capable de nous détourner de la vérité.

Veillons la manière donc nous regardons notre vie, les personnes, les événements, etc. Si nous regardons tout avec un regard de foi, nous découvrirons la présence de Dieu et son accompagnement. Avec ce regard, même si les choses ne tournent pas comme il faut, nous ne serons pas déçus, car nous verrons tout avec un regard de Dieu, un regard plein d’espérance et de miséricorde.

Dans la multiplication du pain, c’est Dieu qui agit et fait agir. Nous ne devons que coopérer à sa mission, donner les petits pains que nous avons et Il les multipliera. L’Eucharistie est le vrai pain du ciel qui se multiplie quotidiennement pour que nous mangions et vivions. Prions que nous arrivions à ouvrir notre cœur et partager notre pain et nous verrons nous-mêmes la multiplication des pains, et l’actualisation du rêve de la première lecture.

29 And Jesus went on from there and passed along the Sea of Galilee. And he went up on the mountain, and sat down there. 30 And great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the maimed, the blind, the dumb, and many others, and they put them at his feet, and he healed them, 31 so that the throng wondered, when they saw the dumb speaking, the maimed whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel. 32 Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, "I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me now three days, and have nothing to eat; and I am unwilling to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way." 33 And the disciples said to him, "Where are we to get bread enough in the desert to feed so great a crowd?" 34 And Jesus said to them, "How many loaves have you?" They said, "Seven, and a few small fish." 35 And commanding the crowd to sit down on the ground, 36 he took the seven loaves and the fish, and having given thanks he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. 37 And they all ate and were satisfied; and they took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces left over.

The message

There are lots of movements in the gospel. Jesus is busy in teaching and healing. The disciples, I hope were busy in organisation of the crowd, so that everyone could have access to Jesus and all may have the possibility of profiting the grace from their master. The evening approach, time is limited, the fatigue get installed in our self by exhausting all the energy we need to continue. When such situation arrive, which is beyond our control, taken by different movements of life, encouraging and discouraging, we all get panicked, because we don’t have sufficient energy necessary to continue. We all have the temptation to see in this troubled moment of life, what we don’t have and search all means possible to fill the emptiness.

It is here Jesus differs radically from us. He is asking us to search all that we have and the rest he wishes that we leave it in the hand of the providence of the Lord, for He will multiply all that we need. Jesus is looking what we have, the little bread and fish, though very little it may appear to our eyes, is a great fortune for Jesus to multiply. We get lost in searching great things, particularly what we don’t have, and in our disappointments, we fail to recognize even the little we have. Thus we give little opportunity to Jesus to multiply.

Let us watch and pray during this Advent season that we don’t get lost in searching what we don’t have, but search faithfully what we have and present these little to Jesus with gratitude for the multiplication. Eucharist is the real bread from heaven that Jesus shares with us. Let us thank Him with gratitude for this nourishing meal which saves our soul.

Car, je vous le déclare : beaucoup de prophètes et de rois ont voulu voir ce que vous-mêmes voyez, et ne l’ont pas vu, entendre ce que vous entendez, et ne l’ont pas entendu. »

Le message

Nous sommes un peuple privilégiés comme les petits dont Jésus nous parle, car nous croyons sans avoir vu le Seigneur. Nous profitons de l’incarnation la connaissance du Père, révélé en Jésus. Puisque ce mystère est révélé à nous, nous sommes invités à découvrir ce Dieu, à l’écouter et à mettre en pratique tout ce qu’Il nous dit. Cette révélation est un don que Dieu nous a offert gratuitement en Jésus.

Veillions donc fidèlement pour que ce don reçu soit une grâce qui nous transforme, nous renouvelle, et nous relève. Prions que cette révélation nous aide à construire une relation personnelle avec Dieu, car Il est notre Père en Jésus.

Aujourd’hui Jésus s’adresse à nous en disant, « Heureux les yeux qui voient ce que vous voyez. » Notre persévérance dans la bienveillance et notre fidélité à la prière nous aiderons à vraiment d’être heureux dans notre foi. Si nous restons fidèles, elles nous rechargerons quotidiennement pour vivre notre vie pleinement dans le Seigneur.

Gospel Reading: Luke 10:21-24

21 In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. 22 All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him." 23 Then turning to the disciples he said privately, "Blessed are the eyes which see what you see! 24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it."

The message

God has decided to reveal to us His love and mercy. In Jesus, through His incarnation, we are given this knowledge of divine realities, particularly the tender heart of God who longs to be with us and in us. Sadly many of us have missed this loving nature of God and hold on to the frightening judgement of God. Certainly He is a God of justice, but before that He is a God of mercy and forgiveness.

Jesus is telling us that we are blessed to see in Him this divine mercy and love of God. Do we still doubt this compassionate love of God, who is waiting for the prodigal son/daughter to come back, so that He may propose a great banquet? Many of us fail to reach to this finality of life, by clinking on to mere human existence and human relations, sometimes, in the name of God.

It is here I propose to remind my readers to watch our inner and external life. Our attachments and dependence in human capabilities. Let us pray that the wonderful gift that God has given to us in the incarnation may help us to build a personal relationship with God with proximity that Jesus has accorded to us.
