Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint

Jean 19,25-27.

Scripture: John 19:25-27 (alternate reading: Luke 7:11-17)

But standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, 'Woman, behold, your son!' Then he said to the disciple, 'Behold, your mother!' And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.

The message

What a courageous mother that she not only accompanied Jesus, but could stand there to listen to Him. A very important moment where Jesus is asking his mother to be the mother of the Church, our mother. Today the mother of sorrow is sad not because of the death of her son, rather because of some of us who refuse to listen to her son.

Jesus has given us this mother so that we may understand the love of the Father and the accompaniment of the mother, particularly in our difficult time. She will stand with us and will be a force for us to continue our march towards the perfection of holiness. This mother is still there at the foot of the Cross, to accompany us so that we may be able to carry our cross, the only way to follow Jesus.

This sorrowful mother will plead for us, whenever she realizes that we lack something important in our life, even before we address to her. All that she will ask us is, “do all that he will ask you to do.”

If we look very closely the messages communicated to us through various Marian apparitions, we will understand that she is still in hurry as she was in her visitation rushing towards the house of Elizabeth.

Today she needs us very badly to announce the Good news to all. Let us go to her and she will lead us to her Son, our Saviour and Lord. She will help us to say YES to the Lord and give us the courage to stand by the Cross.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint

Jean 3,13-17.

Gospel reading: John 3:13-17 (alternate reading: Luke 7: 1-10)

13 (Jesus answered) "No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended from heaven, the Son of man. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life." 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.

Le message

The Holy Cross has become a symbol of our joy and salvation. In Jesus we find the reason to glorify this Cross through which Jesus has saved us. Just like the people of Israel who raised their eyes to save their life, we raise our eyes towards this Cross which has saved us. Through this Cross, in our desert journey, there will be no grumbling, no complaints, and no discouragement, because someone has carried it already for us and our sins are already forgiven and we were made children of God.

The fear of God is that we may not get lost from this love and that we live our life in a dignified way, worthy of the price Jesus has payed to save us. God so loved us that he has sent His only Son to die for us. What have we done to this love and what is our means of repaying this enormous debt that we have inherited through our baptism?

I wish to all the people particularly the Holy Cross sisters a very happy feast day and may God bless them and their mission.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint

Marc 8,27-35.

Scripture: Mark 8:27-35

27 And Jesus went on with his disciples, to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples, "Who do men say that I am?" 28 And they told him, "John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others one of the prophets." 29 And he asked them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered him, "You are the Christ." 30 And he charged them to tell no one about him. 31 And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And he said this plainly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. 33 But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter, and said, "Get behind me, Satan! For you are not on the side of God, but of men." 34 And he called to him the multitude with his disciples, and said to them, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35 For whoever would save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it.

Homily

Faith is a gift of the Holy Spirit. The Christian faith is both personal and communal. It is personal because it defines our knowledge of God and what kind of relationship we have with Him. This God loves to have a personal relationship and who entrusts the mission personally. Faith is also a communitarian because it requires us a rigorous practice, which pushes us towards others. A faith that does not put us in sincere and personal relationship with God and if doesn’t unite us in the Lord with others, it is like a hidden light, useless not only to others but also to the person who has received this light.

It is in this personal and community relationships as we receive the courage of the suffering servant of Isaiah, Jesus Christ. As the suffering that allowed the Servant of God conclude a new alliance for us with the Father, by our positive engagement for the well-being of our brothers and sisters, we will cooperate in building of the Kingdom of God.

Saint James shows us the Pauline concept of faith, which is the main source of our actions, invisible to others and work of the faith that makes it visible to others. Our faith is not a mere outward adherence to formulas of creed or ritual, it should embrace life and transform.

Certainly the solicitation of a confession of faith on the part of the disciples of the Lord shows us the importance of our personal relationship with God. "For you who am I? "How can we ignore this critical question which will help us to understand the close link of the Cross and Resurrection of the Lord? Today this question is for all of us. Can we respond to Him with a concrete and truthful answer?

If we say yes to His call, here's the requirement, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross and follow me. "Renouncing yourself is to become Christ for others. Take up our cross, is taking up the cross of others, for their cross is now ours. Take up our cross means also to recognize different kinds of crosses we have in our lives and accept them as ours. Following Christ is to be led by Him. It is a personal and individual call, but with a community service. By carrying the cross of others, we will discover that it is Christ carrying with us our cross. The Christian faith is intensely personal for the good of others.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint

Luc 6,43-49.

Scripture: Luke 6:43-49

43 "For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit; 44 for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thorns, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. 45 The good man out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil man out of his evil treasure produces evil; for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. 46 "Why do you call me `Lord, Lord,' and not do what I tell you? 47 Every one who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: 48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep, and laid the foundation upon rock; and when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house, and could not shake it, because it had been well built. 49 But he who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation; against which the stream broke, and immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great."

The message

Saint Bernard writes on this gospel, « If therefore neither faith without good works nor good works without faith suffice for a man's righteousness, we, my brothers, who believe in Christ, should strive to ensure that our behaviour and desires are righteous. Let us raise up both our hearts and hands to God, that our whole being may be righteous, our righteous faith being revealed in our righteous actions. So we shall be lovers of the Bride, the Church, and loved by the Bridegroom Jesus Christ our Lord, who is God, blessed for ever.”

Today Jesus is asking us to be active contemplatives in our lives. Contemplative is meditating the world of God and active in actualizing what we have meditated. Thus a good disciples of the Lord will be identified with fruit of good actions and also the way he or she leads his or her life in spite of storms of life.

Only if we are rooted in Christ like the foundation on the rock, then we will be able to withstand the unexpected foods and winds of life. Our love for others will be without any condition and our pardon will be without any measure.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint

Luc 6,39-42.

Scripture: Luke 6:39-42

39 He also told them a parable: "Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40 A disciple is not above his teacher, but every one when he is fully taught will be like his teacher. 41 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 42 Or how can you say to your brother, `Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,' when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother's eye.

The message

Many of us give importance in this gospel the brother who is ready to help the other, without seeing his own infirmities. Today µI invite you all look this gospel in a different way, particularly, this statement of Jesus: “A disciple is not above his teacher, but every one when he is fully taught will be like his teacher.” If we remain faithful to our discipleship, we will never judge others, rather look into ourselves the means o be like Jesus and imitate Him in a radical way. This like a lamp which shines, we will be the reflection of the light of Christ.

Saul who has become Paul, never fails to acknowledge his past, but gets pride in his faithfulness to serve the Lord, in obedience. His pride is in the Lord that he looked Peter the chosen of Jesus with high esteem. It is in the true discipleship we learn to be humble and obedient like our Master, Jesus Christ.

Let us cry to the Lord and ask Him to remove our blindness.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint

Luc 6,27-38.

Scripture: Luke 6:27-38

27 "But I say to you that hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. 29 To him who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from him who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt. 30 Give to every one who begs from you; and of him who takes away your goods do not ask them again. 31 And as you wish that men would do to you, do so to them. 32 "If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again. 35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the selfish. 36 Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. 37 "Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; 38 give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back."

The message

The heart of today’s reading is “Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.” Is it possible for us, mortals, to be like God? Love and pray for our enemies, for example! ………… Though many of us doubt this possibility, Jesus seems to think the other way. If he proposes to be merciful, like the Father, He believes strongly that it is attainable for us the mortals.

If we try it all alone, we will never succeed, rather get the help of someone who is capable of raising us up above from simple moral being to eternal inheritors: the Holy Spirit. Since Jesus has sent the Holy Spirit to guide us and help us, with Him, it is possible. We should allow the Holy Spirit to guide us and accompany us in our discernment and decision making processes. Thus in this spiritual accompaniment, we will be extraordinary people, in our behaviour not only in doing but also in being, as Jesus is asking us to be.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint

Luc 6,20-26.

Scripture: Luke 6:20-26

20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: "Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. 21 "Blessed are you that hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. "Blessed are you that weep now, for you shall laugh. 22 "Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, on account of the Son of man! 23 Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets. 24 "But woe to you that are rich, for you have received your consolation. 25 "Woe to you that are full now, for you shall hunger. "Woe to you that laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep. 26 "Woe to you, when all men speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets.

The message

If we interpret that only those who are poor and hunger will be blessed, then we miss radically the point of interest. It is not our material poverty that Jesus is interested, rather a heart which finds its source of subsistence in God, in the providence of God. A heart which depends fully in God.

The more we detach from the earthly glory and power, the easier will be for us to get attached in God, as the branch which attach itself to the vine. It is in God alone that the humanity can find the eternal happiness. All the joy and the happiness that the world can give, will make us all the more hunger and we will never be stratified. Only the happiness that God will give can satisfy us without seeking for higher happiness, because the heart won’t feel the need of higher happiness, says Saint Thomas Aquinas.

Comme il avait formé ce projet, voici que l’ange du Seigneur lui apparut en songe et lui dit : « Joseph, fils de David, ne crains pas de prendre chez toi Marie, ton épouse, puisque l’enfant qui est engendré en elle vient de l’Esprit Saint ;

Scripture: Matthew 1:1-16, 18-23 (alternate reading: Luke 6:12-19)

1 The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. 2 Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, 3 and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram, 4 and Ram the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon, 5 and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, 6 and Jesse the father of David the king. And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah, 7 and Solomon the father of Rehoboam, and Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Asa, 8 and Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah, 9 and Uzziah the father of Jotham, and Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, 10 and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, and Manasseh the father of Amos, and Amos the father of Josiah, 11 and Josiah the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon. 12 And after the deportation to Babylon: Jechoniah was the father of Shealtiel, and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, 13 and Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, and Abiud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azor, 14 and Azor the father of Zadok, and Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eliud, 15 and Eliud the father of Eleazar, and Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob, 16 and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ.

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit; 19 and her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit; 21 she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 23 "Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emmanuel" (which means, God with us).

The message

It is in Mary that we very clearly understand the accomplishment of the promise of God. She believed and she was blessed. All those who believe will be blessed. In her we become the best disciples of Christ: those who listen to the Word of God and put in practice.

While celebrating the nativity of Mary, we celebrate our own birth in the filial relationship under the Cross, not only in the Father of Christ, but also in His mother: This is your mother, this is your son.

In her intercession, we believe her accompaniment in our journey towards Christ. She who has accompanied Jesus, till the Cross, will be the best teacher to teach us, how to reach Jesus. In her, we can learn to meditate and contemplate the Word of God. All her apparitions have brought to the world the message of Christ. Since she is capable of making us to understand the word of God and the will of the Father, we pray to her to take our intentions to Christ and help us how to pray and contemplate.

I wish you all a very happy feast.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint

Luc 6,6-11.

Scripture: Luke 6:6-11

6 On another Sabbath, when he entered the synagogue and taught, a man was there whose right hand was withered. 7 And the scribes and the Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they might find an accusation against him. 8 But he knew their thoughts, and he said to the man who had the withered hand, "Come and stand here." And he rose and stood there. 9 And Jesus said to them, "I ask you, is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it?" 10 And he looked around on them all, and said to him, "Stretch out your hand." And he did so, and his hand was restored. 11 But they were filled with fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.

The message

Let us learn to imitate Jesus in our daily lives and prudently deal with our adversaries. It is possible that we are surrounded by wicket and bad people. Their wickedness and their presence should never condition our good deeds. Like Jesus we should never stop doing good. Let us choose good in all occasions.

In this process of discerning the good and doing, it may sometime be the cause of our suffering. Jesus never chose to suffer, but accepted it to save the humanity, in consequence of His love for us. It is in the same sense saint Paul took his suffering and that we should take our own suffering. It is in this way that the suffering is desired and willed, because only through the Cross that the resurrection is assured. In this suffering we participate in the suffering of Christ, by which, like Jesus, our master par excellence, we will cooperate in the accomplishment of the will of the Father.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint

Luc 6,1-5.

Scripture: Luke 6:1-5

1 On a Sabbath, while he was going through the grain fields, his disciples plucked and ate some heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands. 2 But some of the Pharisees said, "Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?" 3 And Jesus answered, "Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: 4 how he entered the house of God, and took and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those with him?" 5 And he said to them, "The Son of man is lord of the Sabbath."

The message

Jesus is well informed on the history of salvation. The people of Israel was a special community and it was different from others. Jesus doesn’t want us to be like others, rather be ourselves, fully rooted in Christ. Why we should be like others doing what all others do? Jesus wishes that we keep our identity as children of God and obey only to the divine law than human precepts.
