Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint

Luc 9,7-9.

Scripture: Luke 9:7-9

7 Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done, and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had been raised from the dead, 8 by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the old prophets had risen. 9 Herod said, "John I beheaded; but who is this about whom I hear such things?" And he sought to see him.

The message

There are many search for the Lord and very few find. Like Herod, few of us may search for the same because of our own culpability and sin. It’s not stupid to search, while keeping the eyes closed? Herod did the same thing. He knew the evil in him, but refused to see the divine mercy in Jesus. Keep our eyes open and see the mercy of God in our personal life and still it is really stupid that we refuse to forgive others.

Many of us have a good knowledge of God like Zachariah, the father of John Baptist and very few of us have the faith of Mary, the mother of Jesus. We should have this faith and try to establish a loving relationship with God, because He is loving and merciful. Then we will see the fruit of our faith through our perseverance.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint

Luc 8,19-21.

Scripture: Luke 8:19-21

19 Then his mother and his brothers came to him, but they could not reach him for the crowd. 20 And he was told, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, desiring to see you." 21 But he said to them, "My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it."

The message

The message of Jesus to His mother who is longing to have a word with Him, certainly not for her personal pleasure, seems to us little out of proportionate and rude. Gospel though didn’t speak about the response of His mother, her silence is a mere acceptation of the message communicated to her.

What is the message of Jesus to His mother: I am busy with the Fathers work and my priority is to spread the fire of love to all. Since you are the best example I have, as model to present to the world, as the perfect actualization of the will of God in the incarnation by human participation and cooperation, I would like to tell them, that if they do the same like you, they too will be counted as great in the kingdom of God.

Mary will understand the greater responsibility that her son will entrust to her in later days, at the Cross, “behold your mother, behold your son.” What is the message Jesus wish to communicate to you and me today?

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint

Matthieu 9,9-13.

In English

Scripture: Matthew 9:9-13 (alternate reading: Luke 8:16-18)

9 As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax office; and he said to him, "Follow me." And he rose and followed him. 10 And as he sat at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" 12 But when he heard it, he said, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 Go and learn what this means, `I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.' For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."

The message

The call of Mathew do give us lot of hope for conversion and reconciliation. Mathew was not a poor, or a perfect man. He was a rich and made his riches with unjust means, just like many of the tax collector of his time. The invitation to Mathew and the presence of other tax collectors in this banquet assures us that we too can join with Jesus in His mission.

God doesn’t work like human being. He refuses to see the visible act of us, rather He sees the invisible heart and intention of each and every one of us. Though Mathew was a visible sinner, God could see the heart which was longing for the Lord. The faith and love can move the mountains in our lives.

We don’t know when God calls and how He calls. He chose Peter before and Paul after the resurrection. We can’t understand the mystery of God’s call. So it is important that we keep vigilant, being prepared at all time, like the owner of the house watching his house against the thieves. It is in this vigilance and perseverance that we can say YES to the Lord like Mary. Happy feast to you all.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint

Marc 9,30-37.

Amen

Scripture: Mark 9:30-37

30 They went on from there and passed through Galilee. And he would not have any one know it; 31 for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, "The Son of man will be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him; and when he is killed, after three days he will rise." 32 But they did not understand the saying, and they were afraid to ask him. 33 And they came to Capenaum; and when he was in the house he asked them, "What were you discussing on the way?" 34 But they were silent; for on the way they had discussed with one another who was the greatest. 35 And he sat down and called the twelve; and he said to them, "If any one would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all." 36 And he took a child, and put him in the midst of them; and taking him in his arms, he said to them, 37 "Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me."

Homily

We call ourselves Christians and engage in announcing the Good news without being actually what we are called to be. Since we have participated in the baptism of the Lord, we reclaim His name as part of ours own. A Christian carries Christ in him and lives his life through Him and in Him. He listens to whatever the Lord asks him to do and puts his soul and all his energy to fulfil the will of God. He does nothing other than that the Lord has asked.

People of the world look and seek their individual interest, personal taste, the benefit of his act. This behaviour by itself is not bad and what is expected of each and every one of us. We should learn to take care of ourselves. In this process of self-enrichment, if others are not our priority, we begin to lose us or destroy us, little by little without knowing the mission that God has entrusted to us, right from the beginning of creation. "Where is your brother? "The first reading presents us one such human behaviour who have forgotten their mission entrusted by the Lord and seek to protect themselves at all costs, at the peril of others, putting others in trouble wilfully and voluntarily.

Jesus is showing us an another way of life, which will give us peace and joy. He is with the disciples and except the time he spent with the Father, he was alwas with others. Today He is walking with his disciples, he instructs them on his way, the way of the cross and gospel says that they "did not understand his words." If they did not understand his words, it was not only that it was difficult to understand, but they were too busy with an important issue; "Who was the greatest. "The Lord's answer is," If someone wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all. "

The biblical readings of this Sunday put face to face two interesting camps, that of the "impious" and that of "just", that of war and of peace, that of humility, service, and the glory and honour. Such multiple situations and contradictions do confuse us and takes lot of our energy in useless taking and doing.

Jesus understood that the subject of his disciples, he asked them, "What were you discussing on the way? "The disciples keep a silence. A sacred silence, with an examination of conscience, do present to us their sincerity and acknowledgement of a wrong path. Profiting the silence of his disciple and their openness to listening to the Lord, Jesus brings them to his Father. Everything we do on earth is bound in heaven. The Father is present in us through our brothers and sisters. "Whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but him who sent me. " Giving a higher meaning to our service to the humanity as something desired and willed by the Father.

Following this invitation of Jesus, all the saints saw God in men and took pleasure in serving them as if they were serving God. God was present through all and in all. Their prayers were a dialogue between that God who was present in this world and the one who was present in their heart. A permanent dialogue which let them in contemplation and meditation at the same time. They sought the Father's will in their thinking, doing and being. And they were able to decode the divine message communicated to them in this world through signs and symbols and they put it into practice. Conflicts and confusions of our time, were present in their time as well, yet through their deep relationship with the Lord, they made a good choice. In the crossroads of the cross, they saw the resurrection.

"When the cross is there, gives us, Lord, to watch you, listen to you, to hear your entire message. Beyond the cross, you always promises the resurrection. "Keep us always in this hope. Amen

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint

Luc 8,4-15.

Scripture: Luke 8:4-15

4 And when a great crowd came together and people from town after town came to him, he said in a parable: 5 "A sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell along the path, and was trodden under foot, and the birds of the air devoured it. 6 And some fell on the rock; and as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. 7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns grew with it and choked it. 8 And some fell into good soil and grew, and yielded a hundredfold." As he said this, he called out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." 9 And when his disciples asked him what this parable meant, 10 he said, "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God; but for others they are in parables, so that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand. 11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, that they may not believe and be saved. 13 And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy; but these have no root, they believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. 14 And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.

The message

The story of the sower and the seed is well known to us. What is not explained and remains as a mystery is the way the sower has prepared the land. He can’t be that foolish that one day he raises up, to go and sow. Thus I invite you to meditate the way God has prepared us to receive the Word of God. The process of this preparation is hidden to us. Only those who are connected to God, it is revealed to them, because they are able to see the invisible work of God through visible signs of the world.

The second part of the story is, the way we welcome this Word of God. Let us be careful that this seed may not fall in the stony or the thorny part of our heart. It is important that we cooperate in the preparation of the land. Only if we allow the Holy Spirit to work in and through us that the land can be prepared as God desires.

The gospel says very clearly that though all received the Word with utmost happiness, only the good land was able to give fruit. Let us learn to keep our heart pure and clean so that we may be able to identify the Word of God and welcome it to penetrate in the deepest part of our being. A heart with patience and perseverance will give surely the good fruit, because it listens to the wisdom of God and allow God to work in it.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint

Luc 7,36-50.

– Tu as raison », lui dit Jésus.

Scripture: Luke 7:36-50

36 One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee's house, and took his place at table. 37 And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was at table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, 38 and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment 39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner." 40 And Jesus answering said to him, "Simon, I have something to say to you." And he answered, "What is it, Teacher?" 41 "A certain creditor had two debtors; one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42 When they could not pay, he forgave them both. Now which of them will love him more?" 43 Simon answered, "The one, I suppose, to whom he forgave more." And he said to him, "You have judged rightly." 44 Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered your house, you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet. 46 You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. 47 Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little." 48 And he said to her, "Your sins are forgiven." 49 Then those who were at table with him began to say among themselves, "Who is this, who even forgives sins?" 50 And he said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."

The message

There are plenty to meditate and contemplate, however, we will remain faithful only to love and forgiveness, because they are the heart of today’s gospel. Love, and forgiveness are the two faces of the same coin. The best way of loving is forgiving and forgiveness is the best expression of love.

The incarnation, the Cross and the resurrection are the visible singes of the invisible divine love for the humanity. It is achievable by faith. If this woman received the pardon, Jesus says, because of her faith in the saviour and her love for Jesus. The love and faith go hand in hand.

Like this women we should have the courage to go to Jesus and cry. God loves the repentance soul, says Jesus. The joy of finding back the lost coin is more appreciated than having plenty. All that is needed is to cry out and be aware of the need of God’s pardon and be ready to reciprocate the same to our brothers and sisters.

If our heart is filled with love and approach Jesus with deep faith we, like her, will receive the consoling message: "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint

Luc 7,31-35.

In English

Scripture: Luke 7:31-35

31 "To what then shall I compare the men of this generation, and what are they like? 32 They are like children sitting in the market place and calling to one another, `We piped to you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not weep.' 33 For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine; and you say, `He has a demon.' 34 The Son of man has come eating and drinking; and you say, `Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' 35 Yet wisdom is justified by all her children."

The message

The more we look others with a critical eye, the more we are critical. Good people identify the presence of goodness and the other what they are. Thus, the way we look at other, we identity what we are. Jesus asks us to identify ourselves the way God look at people and to avoid the way the authority of His time looked at Him.

Since we are children of God, it is important that we learn to look everything with the eyes of the Lord, full of compassion and love. It is in this way of mastering ourselves, we become in truth the children of God. The continuous practice of good deeds make us a virtuous person, say saint Thomas Aquinas. If we try to find fault in the Lord, there is no goodness in us. We pretend to be good by our deeds, but in our hearts there are still anger and jealousy dominate. Let us think good and we will do good.

Jean 19,25-27.

Scripture: John 19:25-27 (alternate reading: Luke 7:11-17)

But standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, 'Woman, behold, your son!' Then he said to the disciple, 'Behold, your mother!' And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.

The message

What a courageous mother that she not only accompanied Jesus, but could stand there to listen to Him. A very important moment where Jesus is asking his mother to be the mother of the Church, our mother. Today the mother of sorrow is sad not because of the death of her son, rather because of some of us who refuse to listen to her son.

Jesus has given us this mother so that we may understand the love of the Father and the accompaniment of the mother, particularly in our difficult time. She will stand with us and will be a force for us to continue our march towards the perfection of holiness. This mother is still there at the foot of the Cross, to accompany us so that we may be able to carry our cross, the only way to follow Jesus.

This sorrowful mother will plead for us, whenever she realizes that we lack something important in our life, even before we address to her. All that she will ask us is, “do all that he will ask you to do.”

If we look very closely the messages communicated to us through various Marian apparitions, we will understand that she is still in hurry as she was in her visitation rushing towards the house of Elizabeth.

Today she needs us very badly to announce the Good news to all. Let us go to her and she will lead us to her Son, our Saviour and Lord. She will help us to say YES to the Lord and give us the courage to stand by the Cross.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint

Jean 3,13-17.

Gospel reading: John 3:13-17 (alternate reading: Luke 7: 1-10)

13 (Jesus answered) "No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended from heaven, the Son of man. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life." 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.

Le message

The Holy Cross has become a symbol of our joy and salvation. In Jesus we find the reason to glorify this Cross through which Jesus has saved us. Just like the people of Israel who raised their eyes to save their life, we raise our eyes towards this Cross which has saved us. Through this Cross, in our desert journey, there will be no grumbling, no complaints, and no discouragement, because someone has carried it already for us and our sins are already forgiven and we were made children of God.

The fear of God is that we may not get lost from this love and that we live our life in a dignified way, worthy of the price Jesus has payed to save us. God so loved us that he has sent His only Son to die for us. What have we done to this love and what is our means of repaying this enormous debt that we have inherited through our baptism?

I wish to all the people particularly the Holy Cross sisters a very happy feast day and may God bless them and their mission.

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint

Marc 8,27-35.

Scripture: Mark 8:27-35

27 And Jesus went on with his disciples, to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples, "Who do men say that I am?" 28 And they told him, "John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others one of the prophets." 29 And he asked them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered him, "You are the Christ." 30 And he charged them to tell no one about him. 31 And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And he said this plainly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. 33 But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter, and said, "Get behind me, Satan! For you are not on the side of God, but of men." 34 And he called to him the multitude with his disciples, and said to them, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35 For whoever would save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it.

Homily

Faith is a gift of the Holy Spirit. The Christian faith is both personal and communal. It is personal because it defines our knowledge of God and what kind of relationship we have with Him. This God loves to have a personal relationship and who entrusts the mission personally. Faith is also a communitarian because it requires us a rigorous practice, which pushes us towards others. A faith that does not put us in sincere and personal relationship with God and if doesn’t unite us in the Lord with others, it is like a hidden light, useless not only to others but also to the person who has received this light.

It is in this personal and community relationships as we receive the courage of the suffering servant of Isaiah, Jesus Christ. As the suffering that allowed the Servant of God conclude a new alliance for us with the Father, by our positive engagement for the well-being of our brothers and sisters, we will cooperate in building of the Kingdom of God.

Saint James shows us the Pauline concept of faith, which is the main source of our actions, invisible to others and work of the faith that makes it visible to others. Our faith is not a mere outward adherence to formulas of creed or ritual, it should embrace life and transform.

Certainly the solicitation of a confession of faith on the part of the disciples of the Lord shows us the importance of our personal relationship with God. "For you who am I? "How can we ignore this critical question which will help us to understand the close link of the Cross and Resurrection of the Lord? Today this question is for all of us. Can we respond to Him with a concrete and truthful answer?

If we say yes to His call, here's the requirement, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross and follow me. "Renouncing yourself is to become Christ for others. Take up our cross, is taking up the cross of others, for their cross is now ours. Take up our cross means also to recognize different kinds of crosses we have in our lives and accept them as ours. Following Christ is to be led by Him. It is a personal and individual call, but with a community service. By carrying the cross of others, we will discover that it is Christ carrying with us our cross. The Christian faith is intensely personal for the good of others.
